Is it true Villa played a few games in Germany in 1938 and performed the Nazi salute?

The story is told a few times on here. Basically, we toured in 1938, refused to do the salute once, then were told to do it by the government for the second game and did so, after a fashion.

And the England national team did the Nazi salute on the same tour.
Think at least one Villa player may have flicked a 'v' sign instead of saluting too.

Frank Broome made his England debut in that game and scored. From reading from reading an England players website he was a few days short of his 23rd birthday at the time, I thought he was a bit older, which means he lost his peak years to the Second World War.

A very enjoyable article to read.
I assume they couldn't find a photo of Broome so one of Eric Houghton would do instead!

Also, I'm pretty sure Frank Broome's nephew posts on here
