Guess we should start one! Traore in - come on Villa.
-
I hope Barkley is fully fit. Great to see Traore starting.
-
Let's see what Traore can properly do ... hope we don't miss Trez Bremner's energy.
-
Think Cash could be in for a busy afternoon if we don't get a proper grip in midfield.

-
Surprised to see Engels on the bench. Didn’t realise he was that close to fitness

He was also on on it for the DL game, I think.
-
Surprised to see Engels on the bench. Didn’t realise he was that close to fitness
Newsflash: he was sub for the last two matches!
-
Just been told he was on the bench for Leeds. Oops
-
Nice to see Redmond and Long on the bench! And hopefully, they stay there.
Come on Villa! Good luck Traore! Do us proud!
-
Walcott one of those world beaters when he plays against us. You know the ones we’ve had over the years. See David White.
-

Dirty Leeds and Dirty Leicester.
-
My lad beat you to it Risso !
-
Think Cash could be in for a busy afternoon if we don't get a proper grip in midfield.
Yep we need to compete well. This is a bloody tough game.
-
The Leeds match I can excuse because I’ve erased it from my memory and it never really happened, but I’ll have to put my hand up to being dozy about the Leicester game :)
-
Tough on Trez getting dropped but I hope Traore has a good game.
-
We really need to be at our best against this lot. We often seem to give the impression of underestimating them
-
Get those SCORCHIOs ready PWS.
-
Traore was one of our big purchases and he’s been with us a few weeks now
the only way we are going to find out what he’s about is by giving him a go from the off in a game like this
-
If Traore matches Trez for work rate then we're a stronger team. As I believe Traore could have better end product than Trez.
-
If Traore matches Trez for work rate then we're a stronger team. As I believe Traore could have better end product than Trez.
Yes I think that’s what we are all hoping for
-
Traore seems to be more of a central player to me..
-
Traore seems to be more of a central player to me..
I thought he was right sided attacker who likes to cut in on his left peg.
-
Traore deserves his chance to start, apart from the Leeds game, he's hardly had any game time in the league, Trez will be a good player to bring on.
-
Only Liverpool and Man City have won more games than Southampton in 2020.
-
Only Liverpool and Man City have won more games than Southampton in 2020.
Yes I don’t think this will be an easy game
-
Morning all. Thought I’d take a break from the match thread after my unbeaten league streak was snapped. The side I thought he’d pick more to give Traore a break. So let’s now see why we paid the thick end of £20m for him. Good luck Bertie.
UTV everyone!!
-
Is AVTV working?
-
Only Liverpool and Man City have won more games than Southampton in 2020.
Yes I don’t think this will be an easy game
It won’t, even before noting they always fucking beat us!
-
Come on Villa, let's dick these yokels for a change!
-
Surprised El Ghazi is now getting excluded from 18, would like three attacking options on the bench given we've only got one other striker.
-
0-1
-
Oh dear.
-
Possible VAR to save us
-
Great start, shambolic defending on that set piece.
VAR check though.....
-
FFS
-
VAR rules it out
-
Thank you VAR.
-
Get out of jail free card used, remains 0-0.
Now is it too much to ask we can start playing like first four games?
-
Always loved VAR, never had a bad word to say about it
-
Awful decision but thank fuck
-
Don’t be fucking shit Villa.
-
They are already causing us problems though.
-
It's so long since we beat Southampton at home that Carlton Cole scored
-
Shambolic start. Traore gave it away, and Ings should have scored. We then give it away from a Cornerlty. Luckily ruled out, but I don't like this reversion to being shit.
-
We look even more lethargic than we did against Leeds. Most of our players are still in bed!!
-
Getting away with this.
-
We didn't touch the ball and they played straight through us to score.
Not a good sign
-
Another escape
-
React Villa.
-
Come on villa. Match has started.
-
The one thing that saved us last season and gave us a great start this was our defensive discipline. If that goes we’re fucked and we’ve seen signs vs Leeds and already today that the dam might be about to break. We cannot let that happen through carelessness.
-
This is pathetic. Fucking rubbish Villa.
-
VAR is ace. Always liked it.
-
This does not bode well. Not come out of the changing room.
-
This looks like Leeds all over again
-
Good to see we learned our lessons from the Leeds game ......
-
Can't wait for the game to start and we get into them
-
Get the fucking intensity up Villa.
-
Sloppy Villa. We shouldn't be starting like this. It's too stressful.
-
We look hungovered and slow... wake up
-
First chance for us
-
Southampton just hit the bar aswell. Decent attack by us now.
Going to be like the Leeds game I suspect, first goal will be massive in this. Hopefully we'll get it this time.
-
Traore did well there. Ward Prowse booked.
-
We're getting into it now.
-
Bit better now
-
Better.
-
I wonder how many times we'll have to watch Mings hoof it aimlessly today.
-
0-1
-
No VAR to save us this time
-
0-1.
Can't deal with the high balls today.
-
That was too easy
-
McGinn marking at a set piece, fuck me.
-
Fucking hopeless here we go again.
-
It’s starting to crumble and look a lot like the bad parts of last season
-
Warning signs were there. Excellent cross I have to say.
-
Our defending has been dreadful the last couple of games. This is what got us in to trouble last season.
-
The bubble seems to have burst.
-
Yep we’ve lost our solidity completely. Shambles.
-
Who was marking him?
-
Who was marking him?
McGinn
-
A free header shocking
-
Frankly we look a bit sussed out.
-
For fuck sake. Back to the shit old ways of last season. Three good chances for them already, and a goal down. Mings hoofing it out aimlessly. Rubbish.
-
Who was marking him?
McGinn
You have to ask why
-
Half chance, corner
-
That looked a bad landing for the lad - don't think it's a foul though.
We look a bit sloppy at the back
-
Who was marking him?
McGinn
You have to ask why
I'm not sure but was it Barkley's man who ended up with McGinn?
-
Sick and tired of shit shit shit Bastard bastard corners
-
What worries me is our manager seems unable to change things when things are not going well
-
For fuck sake. Back to the shit old ways of last season. Three good chances for them already, and a goal down. Mings hoofing it out aimlessly. Rubbish.
Same old same old isn't it. Garbage so far. Time for more alcohol.
-
5'8 vs 6'5 (according to internet) isn't a match up you want to end up with
-
Worst outcome go a goal down, they will slow the game down and keep posession
-
Traore injured
-
We only play well on a Sunday night. Bring on Arsenal.
-
Their manager is very, very good.
-
I don't know who the co-commentator is on my stream, but he sounds a lot like Tom Kerridge.
-
This looks like another of those days where we could play for 3 hours and still not look like scoring. When we attack, they outnumber us. When they attack, they outnumber us. Shouldn't happen.
-
5'8 vs 6'5 (according to internet) isn't a match up you want to end up with
surely this stuff is agree before the start, I can’t see how you end up with that match up
-
It’s starting to crumble and look a lot like the bad parts of last season
Really really hope we don't go on a Lambert esque style awful run after promising 3-4 games, we should be better than that by now.
In a funny way Southampton and Leeds probably worse match ups for us than Arsenal will be so have to ride out this storm. Point today wouldn't be that bad and we can still get that.
-
Traore pulled up, Trez coming on.
-
I don't know who the co-commentator is on my stream, but he sounds a lot like Tom Kerridge.
Danny Gabidon
-
Plenty of time left
-
I still think we need two up front.
-
This looks like another of those days where we could play for 3 hours and still not look like scoring. When we attack, they outnumber us. When they attack, they outnumber us. Shouldn't happen.
Yes that’s how football should be played and Southampton are doing it.
-
I don't know who the co-commentator is on my stream, but he sounds a lot like Tom Kerridge.
Danny Gabidon
👍
-
Watkins worries me. Other than the Liverpool one off, he hasn't got into games very much.
-
5'8 vs 6'5 (according to internet) isn't a match up you want to end up with
Problem seems to be we give Mings free licence to just follow the bar and attack it when defending set pieces. Of course the problem is when cross bypasses him and he's out of the situation then.
Call me old fashioned but I'd prefer Mings and Konsa on their two tallest players and work out the rest from there. Not like Ings and Adams are giants upfront so really it's just the two CBs to deal with and we failed badly to do it (and had a warning with the early corner).
Early sub means DS probably won't change much at half time either. Said it last week but I'd like to see Davis upfront and Watkins a little wider for the last half hour.
-
Long and high balls are not really going to work against Southampton.
-
5'8 vs 6'5 (according to internet) isn't a match up you want to end up with
surely this stuff is agree before the start, I can’t see how you end up with that match up
Their respective heights were irrelevant. McGinn lost him. If he'd been shorter than McGinn, he'd still have had a free header.
-
All feels very flat
-
0-2
-
couple of decent efforts Traore (before he limped off) and Barkley
-
This is a fucking joke. We have learned nothing about Southampton. Nothing.
-
FFS.
Next time we play Southampton let's make sure we don't give away FKs near the box as they're pretty much goals for Southampton.
Re-run of last season's home game so far.
-
Our shape is horrendous. All on Smith for me
-
It was good while it lasted.
-
Welcome back Aston Villa
-
Fuck off Villa. Absolute fucking dog shit.
-
Hello darkness my old friend
-
Rubbish
-
Our shape is horrendous. All on Smith for me
Also our movement is so slow and predictable.
-
Both sides have had free kicks by the corner, they scored theirs while ours have been comfortably dealt with. Both sides have had a free kick on the edge of the area, again they scored while ours went over.
-
What worries me is our manager seems unable to change things when things are not going well
He hasn't a clue...that sub says it all
-
We’ve had the around the same amount of set pieces
they’ve scored two we’ve just fucked everyone up
-
Our shape is horrendous. All on Smith for me
Me too. Looks gormless on the touchline once again.
Come on Villa. Make a fucking game of it.
-
Complete joke and Jacks' getting well pissed off
-
I hate regressing to the mean.
-
What's worrying about this is Ings hasn't got into the game much so far.
Think Southampton will score another at some point and we used up our goals in the Liverpool game so it's a long way back into this game now.
-
I'm starting to think we may not win the league this season
-
Che Adams still has to get his obligatory goal yet also
-
What worries me is our manager seems unable to change things when things are not going well
He hasn't a clue...that sub says it all
That's the worry.
-
Oh dear, we have reverted to type
-
Predictable as soon as Luiz did the foul just where they wanted it. Ward-Prowse also moved the ball back from the foul to make sure.
-
We all knew where that freekick was going to go. Nobody on the line.
Poor.
-
Wait till Shane Long gets on too.
-
Mcginn shit. Ball passed near him and he just stood and watched
-
This is abysmal. Thank you for the start but Dean is showing again that he will be out coached by most managers in this league. Another defeat beckons. We’ve shown next to nothing from the start. We are getting exactly what we deserve.
-
Where is McGinn playing? Where is Barkley?
Far too high ahead of the ball. Luiz completely outnumbered for the second game in a row
-
The really good thing about not having to go the games anymore is that I can now switch over and watch the motor racing.
-
Utter dog shit.
-
I'm starting to think we may not win the league this season
We can still the do the Champs League, or is that Chumps league in our case.
-
I'm starting to think we may not win the league this season
We'll be lucky to get into the Champions League at this rate.
-
Where is McGinn playing? Where is Barkley?
Far too high ahead of the ball. Luiz completely outnumbered for the second game in a row
He is running into areas where he can't be played. Doesn't want the ball
-
It didn't take long for us to be found out, did it?
-
Never fear. We've got supersub hat-trick specialist Davis on the bench.
-
The aimless, lumping it forward vaguely in Watkins' direction is a disgrace. Is this what a week's worth of preparation brings?
-
The good thing is Dean knows how to counter things when they’re against us...
-
I hope this isn't like the Leeds game where we're waiting for a tactical change that never comes.
-
it’s all about the set pieces for me
They’ve taken there’s we’ve wasted ours
-
Switch McGinn next to Luiz ffs
-
Be nice if we could win a fucking tackle now and then
-
The good thing is Dean knows how to counter things when they’re against us...
It's all about the overloads and traps.
-
Clueless
-
I'm really glad to hear that we've been working on the things went wrong in our 'blip' (not a blip) against Leeds.
-
I know this isn’t a popular opinion but I am yet to see the improvement at right back that justified spending £14 million out of a potential striker budget on Cash.
-
We look figured out. If we can't fo the one thing we do then we can't do anything.
-
The aimless, lumping it forward vaguely in Watkins' direction is a disgrace. Is this what a week's worth of preparation brings?
That’s precisely what we had turned into before the Covid break saved us. Useless one dimensional tactics. Watkins is absolutely wasted as was Samatta when we did the same thing. It gives the ball back to them straight away also. Fucking shit approach.
-
Game over. Smith hasn’t got the brains or the players to change it to even try and get back in. We’re gonna need a moment of brilliance and/or a mistake or two. Ain’t happening.
-
Be nice if we could win a fucking tackle now and then
Cash just put in a reducer on JWP.
-
Get Barkley off at half time, my blood boiling watching his Lansbury impression out there. Davis up top, Watkins left, Grealish 10
-
Bloody hell Watkins, utter rubbish that was.
-
Very close to being a penalty.
Mind you on evidence so far this is as good as a penalty for them.
-
Be nice if we could win a fucking tackle now and then
Cash just put in a reducer on JWP.
As I was hitting 'post'. Good. Ward-Prowse is a mouthy (if talented) fecker
-
Get Barkley off at half time, my blood boiling watching his Lansbury impression out there. Davis up top, Watkins left, Grealish 10
We are truly fucked when Davis is the answer to anything
-
The doom Merchants out in force.
-
One problem we have is that we're very much a confidence team, when things go badly for us we pretty much never react well, we fold.
-
0-3
-
Jesus fucking Christ.
-
Shit
-
We don't half play the world is ending card as a football team sometimes.
0-3.
Some effort to have a minus goal difference again shortly after the first 4 games. Only us.
-
My thread is shite for this game, which is obviously rather a good thing.
-
They are walking through us, we are all over the place and Smith has no idea how to change it.
Could be a cricket score.
-
The doom Merchants out in force.
If you think this is good....
-
This is terrible isn't it.
-
Cash should have been sent off as well
-
For fuck's sake.
-
FFS
-
What on earth is Cash doing?
I can't believe what I'm seeing sometimes when watching Villa. Gormless tactics, gormless players.
Fuck the players and fuck Smith.
-
The doom Merchants out in force.
Well to be fair, what do you expect, this has been embarrassing
-
The doom Merchants out in force.
The last 2 halves at home we've lost 0-3 and been totally outplayed in both, i'm amazed people aren't optimistic.
-
We have been well and truly sussed out. Absolutely fucking shit. Fuck this to start the day
-
Exactly the same position with a free kick, and we make the same mistakes, with the same fucking result. Absolutely unbelievable. Fuck off the lot of them. Complete and utter bottlers.
-
Bloody hell, Villa. Going to be on the end of a proper hiding now.
-
9 days rest for this.
Hopefully people will realise some of these players in 11 shouldn't be seen as untouchable. Another high press midfield has completely dominated us.
-
The doom Merchants out in force.
So what do you suggest we cheer about?
-
Ridiculous by Cash.
-
What a bag of shit.
-
Cash should have been sent off as well
And we ere a bit lucky to get away with that first VAR goal to0. A proper bad half this one.
-
Fucking hopeless.
-
Absolutely pathetic. Fucking obvious what would happen. Put a defender on the post ffs
-
Boooooo!
This is shit. That's our goal difference fucked then!
-
The doom Merchants out in force.
Just give it a rest FFS
-
The problem is Dean has no clue on how to change things. Fucking embarrassed.
-
Fuck this. I’m off to clean out the conservatory.
-
The doom Merchants out in force.
You're an irritation of the highest order, and a Rangers loving moron.
-
The doom Merchants out in force.
Well to be fair, what do you expect, this has been embarrassing
The doom merchants rock then, we can't carry on getting turned over like we wasn't even on the park.
-
Smith really has to show he can do something in this situation. Doing nothing isn't an option.
-
Right, I'm not watching any more of this shit. Thank fuck I didn't pay £15 to watch it.
-
People need to stop responding to that bellend. It won't make you feel any better.
-
Can someone explain to me how you can go from beating liverpool 7-2 to being hammered three nil at half time at home to southampton? And 3-0 flatters us.
-
Watkins isolated ,three v one. Change of formation needed.
-
The only positive is that we are not losing by more than three, absolute garbage from all of the team so far.
We should be down to ten men and why does Mings keep his feet planted to the floor on the last free kick?
-
Had enough of this at least I can watch Columbo with the Mrs. Glad I didn’t pay £15
-
Thought it would be a hard game but didn't expect this, we are front runners for sure with no plan b when things go wrong. Our forward line is non existant.
-
3 set pieces 3 goals. It would help if the midfield had realised they were actually playing today. Absolutely woeful from all of them.
Smith needs to get a grip of this it’s woeful. It’s not as if Saints have been overly dominant just clinical.
-
Thoughts and prayers with those who paid thirty quid for the last two games.
-
Our excellent goal difference has also been kicked to shit over the last 2 games.
-
Tyrone Mings wants a good kick up the arse.
-
The thing is Southampton haven't had to be that good. A corner & 2 freekicks.
We've stood off, given them set pieces & lumped the ball to Watkins. We've got to have more than one way to play.
It's all a bit hit & hope.
-
This has been shocking because we clearly haven't sought to consider Southampton's strengths. They look like a coherent team where everyone knows exactly what their role is and we are an individualistic mess. Hoping for a bit of luck or a moment of genius. Beyond awful!
-
it's like groundhog day supporting this club - no matter how much changes we'll always return to our default position of shite.
-
fuck me , well look on the bright side Sheff Utd and Burnley lost , they aint catching us yet.
-
We don't just lose, we fall apart.
Barkley and McGinn have done nothing.
How can a team winning 4 in 4 turn to absolute shite in a game and a half?
-
The doom Merchants out in force.
judging on the last 90 minutes of football they're probably pretty accurate.
-
The biggest thing for me was we look half-arsed, it's like we're playing with no belief and no passion, which is WEIRD given the start we've had. Forget the end scoreline now, I just want to see us compete second half, give these an actual game, like I'm sure this group of players can.
-
Barkley and McGinn have been awol for most of the game but the shambles has been the concession of free kicks in dangerous places.
They play to engage free kicks in dangerous places ( a la Ashely Young) and we fall into the obvious trap.
We've had a few ourselves but apart from the Traore effort, the delivery has not compared to theirs.
Smith said last week that we didn't fare well after going a goal down, and it's more of the same today.
-
Southampton are now like Man U. They could select 11 random fans and still walk over us every time.
-
Total shite. Everything we do is so slow and obvious.
-
Midfield being over run, yet no change or calls from the bench.
If we carry on like this it will be a real hammering, I have watched both leeds and Southampton this year and could have said what to expect !!!!
We got our Villa back
-
We are being exposed tactically. The coaching has to be questioned.
-
Difficult now for Smith. Watkins totally isolated and outnumbered, Barklay and grealish need to be closer, but the McGinn and Luiz have been completely out muscled in the middle. I think the only change I can think would make any kind of difference is to bring Davis on to support Watkins and make that big fecker at the back have to think a bit. Not sure who I’d bring off though
-
Well it's all going very well so far. In the last 90 minutes of football at home, scored 0 conceded 6. And it could and should have been worse, the VAR decision was fortunate and Cash is lucky not to get a red for denying a goal scoring opportunity. I suppose both Leeds and Southampton have become something of bogey teams for us at VP (along with the entire "big 6" and Leicester) but fucking hell we could at least turn up.
It's the stupidity of it that gets me - Mcginn marking a giant at a corner, gifting two free kicks to probably the best free kick taker in the league, and Mings deciding not to jump on the second one so it goes straight over his head and in.
Genius.
I'd like to think the second half can only be better, but the way we are playing it will only get worse.
-
If we can't counterattack then we can't do anything. Why are Villa always the team behind the fucking times, it's been decades since we at the forefront of coaching and style and I'm absolutely fucking sick of it.
-
Maybe we should get Hourihane on and play for free kicks (tongue in cheek). Ward-Prowse doesn't appear to do an awful lot else but he's first class with a dead ball.
-
The only difference between this shite and the Leeds game is at least they are not fucking up my weekend at the beginning of it.
Shambolic.
-
Knowing how clueless our manager is i would settle for 0 3 to escape further punishment
-
We have regressed to playing the way we did in the first half of last season. Too many schoolboy errors of our own making.
-
Ward-Prowse has turned into prime Le Tiss.
We never beat them then.
-
Any changes or am I being silly?
-

I’m glad I wasn’t imagining the Mings not jumping thing. All three goals came from jwp plus the disallowed one. It’s not rocket science. Given trez just shielded the ball out of play for their throw in maybe we just aren’t that savy as a team
-
we've gone from being street-wise, attacking, high-tempo and aggressive to a crock-of-shit who can't do any of the basics right.
If Smith is getting credit for the first four games then he's also allowed to take some shit for the last couple too. Same for the players.
-
If we can't counterattack then we can't do anything. Why are Villa always the team behind the fucking times, it's been decades since we at the forefront of coaching and style and I'm absolutely fucking sick of it.
Jimmy Hogan 1936-1939
-
Tyrone Mings wants a good kick up the arse.
Meant to mention it yesterday but I always dread it when one of our players is featured on Football Focus. Never ends well.
-
at least we’ve come out all guns blazing
-
People need to stop responding to that bellend. It won't make you feel any better.
You're right mate. What I'd give for a joint.
-
Any increased activity on the Smith / manager thread?
-

Been that way for the last decade really. There were glimmers of hope under Lambert. First season we got an unbeaten run going and went up to Liverpool and to quote him "were excellent" for once. Then we lost 8-0 to Chelsea and the sky fell in for next 3 months.
And the long winless runs under DS aswell. Happened last season after we won late v Watford and Leicester in the cup.
Would be nice for once after a bad defeat to reset and at least grind out a draw or two to keep the points total ticking over but season in season out we seem incapable of doing that to get a top half finish.
-
I want a consolation goal at least, otherwise that's 2 games without scoring.
-
If we can't counterattack then we can't do anything. Why are Villa always the team behind the fucking times, it's been decades since we at the forefront of coaching and style and I'm absolutely fucking sick of it.
Paul Lambert, Dean Smith both came to us as front foot coaches. Both have turned into precisely the opposite. MON was a master at the counter attacks and built a team specifically for that. But since then everything we have tried at this level has been nothing short of white flag waving shit.
-
Couple of decent efforts
-
It’s been an utterly unprofessional two halves of football. The players and management should be ashamed.
-
4 wins out of 6 - played 4 top sides and we are doomed.
Some people need to get a serious grip of themselves, or advocate smoking drugs.
-
Barkley is a disgrace
-
We just need more of a presence up top.
Mings is all over the place. Love him as a man and what he stands for/his views. But as a player, he can be an absolute donkey. Would like to see someone older and experienced next to him.
-
Need to make this spell of pressure count. But we rarely do
-
4 wins out of 6 - played 4 top sides and we are doomed.
Some people need to get a serious grip of themselves, or advocate smoking drugs.
As opposed to you no doubt
-
Barkley needs to be off. Stop being star struck , Smith
-
Have liked the look of him so far but Cash been useless today.
Get the feeling we'll see AEM start next week. Perhaps Cash been moved into midfield where he played a bit for Forest.
-
Decent chances from Trez's amd Grealish's headers. If we can get an early one make it respectable. I doubt we will get through without conceading thought.
-

. . . .

We have one player, I feel sorry for him
-
This was the test today and we have failed horribly. To see if Leeds was just the end of a very good run and that it wouldn’t stop us from getting back on the bike again after a fall. We look fucking shellshocked.
-
We have one player, I feel sorry for him
Not for me, we have some decent players on this pitch. I'm more worried about the manager at the moment.
-
0-4 but nothing to worry about it
-
Barkley is a disgrace
He’s not a disgrace. He’s just not the player we all hyped him up to be after two games. Neither is McGinn or Luiz or Mings or even Jack when the manager sets us up this way.
-
I’m hoping this isn’t the start of a hideous run of defeats. We’ve got complacent and forgotten to bother doing the hard work.
-
Ings getting his goal bonus yet again v us.
0-4.
-
This is every bit as bad as us at our worst last season. Take McGinn or Barkely off, both are a waste of a shirt.
-
What's happened to McGinn? Unrecognisable from these days.
-
Fuck off.
-
For the love of christ.
-
We have one player, I feel sorry for him
Not for me, we have some decent players on this pitch. I'm more worried about the manager at the moment.
The big concern for me is that he never seems to change anything, let alone do it successfully, when things are going against us.
MON was the same.

Barkley is a disgrace

Barkley in the last 2 games is a the player I was worried we were getting after 2 games of being the player we all hoped he could be.
-
Fuck off Barkley, you lazy bastard. Work, work, work!!
-
The midfield has been fucking disgraceful again.
-
Utter fucking disgrace.
-
Have a good rest of your day chaps. It’s 8.20am or so here. I don’t want to ruin any more of it.
-
Barkley is a disgrace

Agreed, he's certainly miles away from being an undroppable player on evidence of today and last two (fair play for his winner at Leicester but he wasn't great in that game either).
Does seem a few have been dazzled so far by his reputation.
-
Weekends are so much easier when Villa don't play.
With all due respect to Leeds and Southampton, we shouldn't be so comprehensively dominated by teams like that.
-
Just in hospital where my wife has given birth to our new 1:1 scale baby boy.
Trust villa to fuck up this moment.
-
So then another one of Deans shit losing streaks is upon us. Not consistently good enough at this level.
-
I've worked out Smith's plan - he saw how well Southampton recovered form a 0-9 home defeat last season and is going to try to emulate them. I think he may be on to something.
-
SCORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRCHIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
-
Man Ure lost 1-6 at home recently.
Smith out.
-
Smith has to do something now to stop the bleeding otherwise it's going to be a massacre.
Need to get nkamba on and run the game out
-
Look at the work rate of Ward-Prowse.
Twice that of Ross or Jack combined.
-
To be fair that is some strike, in fact apart from the header Martinez has had no chance
-
Barkley is a disgrace
He’s not a disgrace. He’s just not the player we all hyped him up to be after two games. Neither is McGinn or Luiz or Mings or even Jack when the manager sets us up this way.
Watch his efforts to retrieve the ball he lost for that goal, he's a big type charlie without the ability or application to back it up. A complete and utter disgrace
-

Dare to suggest a Nakamba or Hourihane comes in for him for the odd game though just to change shape or fresh legs and all hell seems to break loose for half the forum.
-
Back to our worst; when Smith gets it wrong, he really fucking gets it wrong. McGinn and Barkley have been woeful. Any sign of them being replaced? Course not. Clueless. Anyway, not wasting any more of the afternoon on this shite, I shall see you all later.
-
SCORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRCHIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I do admire your resilience :)

Man Ure lost 1-6 at home recently.
Smith out.
Do you ever get bored of pointlessly antagonising people?
-
Barkley, Mings, Targett, Cash, McGinn.
Shameful today.
I didn't like most of these players last season, but was impressed when they kept us up.
I'm seeing some shocking performances today. Players strolling about, no leaders, no zest, no urgency, nothing.
Losing 4-0 at home to Southampton.
Get in Tyrone. All is forgiven.
-
Another assist for Jack. Good lad.
-
Weekends are so much easier when Villa don't play.
With all due respect to Leeds and Southampton, we shouldn't be so comprehensively dominated by teams like that.
Yep - we’ve stopped working and let the hype go to our heads. All of them should be fucking ashamed of their efforts in the last two games.
-
Gooooooooooooooooooool! Come on you useless fuckers!
-
4-1, then. Exactly as I predicted.
-
Ah good a goal.
-
Man Ure lost 1-6 at home recently.
Smith out.
The test is always how you respond to bad defeats. Liverpool and Man. United have done o.k since their bad losses.
Since 2010 we've gone on pretty much club record breaking runs after bad defeats so the omens simply aren't good.
-
Ings getting his goal bonus yet again v us.
0-4.
Ings has been excellent so far this season to be fair.
-
AEM coming on for I assume Cash.
-
Man Ure lost 1-6 at home recently.
Smith out.
Man Ure lost 1-6 at home recently.
Smith out.
And bounced back next game with a win - it's the direction of travel that's a concern, two in a row where we've been largely outplayed and leaked goals for fun. In al fairness Smith has shown time and again he is rarely able to get the team to respond to adversity.
-
SCORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRCHIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I was close to just typing the score I must admit
-
A great sub
-
Why do we need to be 3-0 behind before we start to play with any tempo or urgency? Baffling.
-
Watkins needs a partner up with him.
-
Man Ure lost 1-6 at home recently.
Smith out.
Do you ever get bored of pointlessly antagonising people?
Just ignore him. He's either a child or a moron, but like any troll he feeds off people's reactions.
-
Another chance

I'm glad you went with tradition. The familiarity is comforting. I trust your alerts more than BBC or Sky!

66th minute, 4-1 down and a like for like sub? Ok then.
-
Watkins is looking like Wesley did last season. Lack of service/support? Or just not that good?
-
66th minute, 4-1 down and a like for like sub? Ok then.
Come on we can’t change the system.
-
We're actually playing some nice stuff now - shame the game is already lost.
-

a)
-
And another chance
-
Shots!
-
Game plan is working perfectly so far, lull them into a false sense of security and then batter them
-
Had 54% possession today.
Palace beat Southampton 1-0 on opening day with 29% so sometimes low block and conceding the ball is the best option for this type of opponent.
-
Watkins is looking like Wesley did last season. Lack of service/support? Or just not that good?
I was thinking the same. Another expensive learning on the job signing? nothing sticking up front, just like last season.
-
Too little, way too late.
-
And another chance
If he only was able to shoot the ball properly he would be good
-
They've got Ings but we've got Mings.
-
Ings 'goal' offside
-
Watkins is looking like Wesley did last season. Lack of service/support? Or just not that good?

I think it suggests it’s more about our failings as a team.
-
Trez is knocking on the door surely his next chance will hit the net.
-
Much better second half.
The drama really isn’t necessary, onwards and upwards.
-
Man Ure lost 1-6 at home recently.
Smith out.

Just ignore him. He's either a child or a moron, but like any troll he feeds off people's reactions.
I'm struggling to ignore him. Irritating beyond belief.
Let's just sign Ings.
-
To be fair to Ollie, we’ve given him fuck all service in the last three games.
Barkley has been absolutely abysmal today. It’s one thing having a bad game, it’s quite another strutting around thinking you’re much better than you really are.
-
Watkins is looking like Wesley did last season. Lack of service/support? Or just not that good?
I was thinking the same. Another expensive learning on the job signing? nothing sticking up front, just like last season.

I agree but I think the same could be argued for Wesley whereas many did not see it that way.

We could try Davis up front and Watkins as the left inside forward. Jack to then move to the centre.
-
Watkins is looking like Wesley did last season. Lack of service/support? Or just not that good?
I would put it down as a bad day at the office for him and the the team in general because Watkins has impressed me so far this season.

I’m very much in the camp that people have written Wesley off way too soon.
-
The irony of a massive troll banging on about drama
-
Why oh why oh why oh feckin why don’t we put a man on the line when the free kick is that close? Especially the second tikme? Einstein’s definition of madness etc etc. Why teams don’t generally do this is beyond me.
-
I don't think I know what he looks, sounds or plays like, but I have a strong dislike of Ings. Maybe it's having a suffix for a surname, but there's definitely something that riles me.
-
Watkins had Benrahma and Mbuemo bombing up with him last season. Give him the same support and he’s good enough.
-
Another save from a Trez effort
-
Some good chances, Trez finding space and getting openings but has a habit of hitting it straight at the keeper.
-
What's really frustrating here is that they've only had 4 shots on target, we've been done by letting them have easy chances rather than because of the sheer amount of chances.
-
Why not bring on Hourihane or Davis?
The only players coming out with any credit are Martinez (no chance with any of the goals), grealish and to some extent trez and luis
-
Watkins is looking like Wesley did last season. Lack of service/support? Or just not that good?

Agreed on Watkins. I like him.

The best striker in the world can’t score without the ball. Wesleys’ problems were he was always where the ball wasn’t.
-
Another save from a Trez effort
I like him. He never gives up. Deserves a goal today.
-
Watkins looks lightweight and Barkley annonymous. Both very disappointing so far
-
Wesley shouldn’t just be written off.
-
Trez could of had a hatrick. Keepers kept Southampton ahead.
-
Watkins had Benrahma and Mbuemo bombing up with him last season. Give him the same support and he’s good enough.
Exactly. I can’t believe people giving him stick. He has no support. Like to see him upfront with Davis at Arsenal
-

because he was isolated and having to drift into deep and wide areas to get the ball, exactly the same as Watkins has for the last couple of games.
-
Yep our strikers end up with no support.
-
Much better second half.
The drama really isn’t necessary, onwards and upwards.

Like I said my point was that Wesley got pelters for similar performances.

Yeah I'm not going to write off any of our outfield signings as they showed enough in first four games but premier league is unforgiving for new players and now they're finding it tougher.
Watkins is a good player but little concerned he tends to snatch at shots a bit.
Think what the last two games have shown is it would've been nice to have an experienced backup striker on the bench to put on at 1 or 2 down.
You can see DS dosen't really fancy Davis to do anything once we're 3 down. Seems we only put him on in games we're drawing or leading so he can hold the ball up a bit and draw some fouls.
That's something we need to fix in January.
-
Wesley shouldn’t just be written off.
I agree. Could be just what Watkins needs.
Sadly they won’t get on the pitch at the same time because Dean won’t change his system.

We've been murdering them this half but they've still had the ball in our net twice.
-
Get Luiz off.
Probably his worst game for six months but we don't want him out for months with a ripped hamstring.
-
Watkins looks lightweight and Barkley annonymous. Both very disappointing so far
Barkley has continued his track record of having one good game and then a string of anonymous ones. Probably why Chelsea were happy to let him go
-
Why not bring on Hourihane or Davis?
The only players coming out with any credit are Martinez (no chance with any of the goals), grealish and to some extent trez and luis
Smith appears to be unwilling to take off the under performing big name players.
-

Yes our defensive strength and discipline, as a team, has completely disappeared.
-

Once, scoring when you're a yard or 2 offside means fuck all.

Wesley shouldn’t just be written off.
I agree. Could be just what Watkins needs.
Sadly they won’t get on the pitch at the same time because Dean won’t change his system.
I think they'll both be here long after he's gone.
Certainly makes a rod for his own back does Dean
-
bad sportsmanship by ward prowse, winning comfortably and blatently throwing the ball away. I dont like to see that.
-
We need a global pandemic to allow us to reset and sort out the defence.
-
At least they are showing some aggression now
-
Watkins had Benrahma and Mbuemo bombing up with him last season. Give him the same support and he’s good enough.
Exactly. I can’t believe people giving him stick. He has no support. Like to see him upfront with Davis at Arsenal
Benrahama is better than Grealish now?
Tammy had no problem scoring in this set up (o.k just the championship but I'm pretty confident he'd have hit 15 for us in premier league).
We just need another credible striker option in the 18 given Davis isn't trusted once we go more than a goal down. Amazed we didn't get one in after we unloaded Samatta.
Karlan Grant would've been a good pick up given how he took his first goal for WBA the other day.
-
Not sure how that was a free kick for Ings, got his studs stuck in the turf and fell into Elmo.
-
Is it fair to say we're winning on xg or whatever it's called?
-
Long. Terrific.

I still think we will be mid table but days like this hurt.
-

Yeah, I hate all forms of time-wasting, whoever does it. Equally annoying is when a team put the ball down ready for a free kick and some opposition prick kicks or rolls it backwards as they pass. If I were a ref, I'd add 30 seconds on every time a player did that.
-
I still think we will be mid table but days like this hurt.
Same.

You always need a plan B. And be able to adapt plan A.

We'll be scraping around at the bottom again this season Deano, you wait and see.
We have a soft underbelly and no leaders on the pitch.

Nicely taken Ollie.

It doesn’t matter to the score line but good move by Jack to hand the ball to Ollie. He needs to have goals against his name.

4-0 and you nearly fucked it up

Not a bad comeback in the 2nd half. Pity about the first.

I do see a need for the dark arts but I prefer to see it them executed discreetly.
4-2 it was game over after 45 so I take a morsel of comfort that we've won the 2nd half. ok response
-
It's a cliche but it just shows that you can't win games if you let 4 goals in.
We've gone from the best defence in the league to looking like the worst. Southampton haven't had to be very good to beat us today and that's the most annoying part.

For me, eating up tine should be done by keeping the ball. Whether that's taking it to the corner or passing it round in defence (not that watching us try that is ever comfortable). When the ball isn't in play it just doesn't sit right with me.
-
Yet he looked like a world beater his first two games.

I really enjoy that about you!

I'm not sure how it was 6 minutes of stoppage time, we lost a minute whilst they argued with the ref about the pen and then we scored twice and he blew up at 96.53 should've bene at least another minute of play there.
