No chance, he's not allowed o sign for anyone else until January so why would he agree to leave?

Why isn't he? Free transfers can sign for a player whenever they like can't they? Like when we signed Pires?

Iirc it's to do with when they are released. As he would be after the transfer window shut he'd have to wait for the next one to open.

Oh okay. Seems unnecessarily restrictive, I can't see why anyone would want to stop an unemployed player gaining employment. But then the entire concept of transfer windows is entirely devoid of logic so nothing surprises me there.

Yep, if we hold his registration after the window closes then another club can't register him even if we release him, that's why you often see players agree a mutual termination late in the window so thy can have more time to find a club.
