Hi new to the forum
Been support villa since the 1980’s
As we cannot get to games I’ve been trying to find the energy on the crowd from you tube videos Etc
Just wondering what is peoples favourite songs / chants
Mine is sweet Caroline = sweet villa of mine
Love this by jack his energy is immense
-
Agreed. Welcome to the site.
-
TBAR
-
TBAR
No need to swear.

Just wondering what is peoples favourite songs / chants
I taught my 3 year old kid my favourite, which he sings as roughly
"Niiiiigel Spink
throw the dah de dah de
ba da de dah, ba da de dah
on to Tony Daalllleyy
Tony Daley doo de doo
la da Torpeeeeeedoo
do da doo de do da do
It's Tony Cas-car-iiiii-no!"
He sings that at pretty much everyone now, much to my amusement (and their bewilderment).
-
Na na na,na na na,whey hey Aston Villa.Haven't heard it for ages.
-
One of my favourites sung to the tune of Amazing Grace is, Villa, Villa, Villa, Villa ad nauseum. It's the lyrics that do it for me.
-
BFRCABA

Yep.
Strangely, I've always liked Come on Villa, come on Villa, come on Villa Come on....
As its usually when we're not doing so great.
-
Currently, " When will I see you again ? "
-
My favourite is our anthem, "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO".
-
"Allez, allez, allez" can get done to death a bit but happy memories of that during the promotion run. Notable mention to Rotherham away. First time I heard it was Sheff U away earlier that season when we were getting hammered and a couple of blokes nearby were singing it all second half. Made a pleasant change from the endless stream of aggressive bile being spouted by the bloke behind me.
-
I miss "In the Liverpool slums",

I have high hopes the estrangement of fans from grounds will kill that one off.
Done by absolutely everyone, but by us every 90 seconds.
-
My eyes have seen the glory of the Villa win the cup,
That famous night in Rotterdam
When Dennis picked it up
We are the boys in claret and blue etc etc

Here you go. I like our version of Allez, Allez too.
Big turning point that season and the Rotherham fan in front seemed to spend more time watching the Villa fans than the game. :)
-
I always liked the Villaaaaaaaaaaaaa! That was continuous for a few minutes. Everyne wouls just should villa at different times but would sound like one long Villaaaaaaaa! That was back in the 90s when bog roll would stream from the Holte.

Agreed, sung nice and slowly but one that seems to be dying out. The game that sticks out in my mind is the LC final 2nd replay against Everton where it just seemed to rumble out of the stands for ages.
Not a fan of singing TBAR at all.
-
Bring on the Champions.
-
The 'Empty Seats' one?
-
Isn't that a bit too slow?
-
Get your tits out for the lads - always used to make me laugh
-
100 years and won fuck all...
-
Got loads... need a good toilet break at work to get a few down.
-
Big Fat Ron's claret and blue army.....
I know it's (insert manager name here) now but as far as I remember that was the original, remember it being sung all the way through half time at Hillsborough.
Also;
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside, oh I do like to be beside the sea
Oh I do like to stroll along the prom prom prom
Where the Villa fans sing, f**k off West Brom , and Birmingham, and Zulus.....
+1 for The Bells are Ringing
Villa (clap clap clap) Villa (clap clap clap) - especially when the Trinity Road joined in stamping their feet
Jingle Bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
Oh what fun, it is to see, the Villa win away
There's a circus in the town (in the town)
Barry Fry is a clown (is a clown)
Karren Brady is a f***** s***
Birmingham are going down (going down)
At away games : Villa Boys we are here, shag your women and drink your beer
Oh Birmingham, is full of fun, oh Birmingham is full of fun
Its full of t*ts, fanny and the Villa,
oh Birmingham is full of fun
and after a sublime piece of skill from Sir Gordon Cowans, that under the breath chant of "Sid", almost a hiss, followed by rapid clapping that I could never get right
God, there's loads !
-
An old shirt of claret and blue. Was being sung by Eric Houghton (when he was a player) before most of us were born.

More please

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside....
-
A full Holte End singing the bells are ringing, just magic.
-
I love the original version of the Wild Rover song we used to sing. “ we’re by far the greatest the world’s ever seen” much better than when we started copying other clubs by adding “team” to the lyrics. Hard to explain without actually singing it but it makes sense to me. When did we stop singing the original version?
-
I remember it during the relegation season and then through Taylor's early years but by 1990 I think it had died out.
The emphasis was on ever and the has prior wasn't there.
Originally "the world's EVER seen", changed to "the world has ever seen", diminishing.
Fucking hell, I need to get out more....

It's a corner ooh! It's a corner ooh!
It needs to be brought back.

There’s a Facebook group called Aston Villa - Down Memory Lane, where the composer of HEITS and Steps of the Holte End.is actually posting. A hero of mine. I think the words of Steps of the Holte End was my first post on this site.
Here’s HEITS:
Went walking down the Witton Lane
One dark and dusky day
I spied a poor city fan
A-running far away
I said to that poor city fan
it’s time for you to die
He said “yes I know sir...
Holte Enders in the sky
He ran down the terraces
and fell towards the gate,
Little did he know that death
was sure to be his fate
He had one more short hour to live
and then he’d hear the cry
That ev’ry city fan does fear
Holte Enders in the sky
Their fists felt just like granite
and their pockets lined with lead
And if they catch a city fan
he’s sure to wind up dead
Cuz Villa fans rule Birmingham
and city fans know why
Cuz they have seen the glory of
Holte Enders in the sky.
You’re welcome👍

That's a smashing site which really does evoke some great memories of great players and great times, some of which I was fortunate enough to share.
-
I've got to be honest I don't like those lyrics and I hope they stay in the past where they belong.

I'm with you.

The bells are ringing. Reminds me of better times and I hope they return and this song is sung loud and proud on the fantastic Holte End.

Agree Steve, takes me back to standing on the Holte, happy days
-
Nothing as eerily Villa as Holtenders in the sky on a cold November or December as it gets dark and the floodlights come on.
The Holte always sang the bells are ringing when I first started going in the early 80s.
Spinksy, Birchy....just seems a great celebration of the Everyman player
-
HEITS, unique to us and as close to a club anthem as we'll get. 14k in the Holte singing it is pretty spine tingling and will certainly be in the first full VP post Covid.
I remember the full lyrics being posted in another thread sometime last year and was a bit shocked as didn't realise the full chant was as dark as that!

Didn't we run out to a remake of that about a decade ago? Didn't really work and we went back to Escape a few months later.

I think someone should get a Johnny Cash tribute act to record it,
-
...I,ll be happy to post the words to; " As I walked out on the steps of the Holte End" .....with a warning that it may offend....I first heard it in the Aston Tavern , circa 1975
-
Best to not take the lyrics entirely at face value lads.
-
HEITS seems to have taken on more poignancy in the last couple of years, with quite a few youngish ex villa players dying, Atkinson, Ugo, Jloydd. Maybe that’s just how I see it.

A Holte End Lament. I’ve only ever heard it sung in pubs by a handful of people, never in the ground

and after a sublime piece of skill from Sir Gordon Cowans, that under the breath chant of "Sid", almost a hiss, followed by rapid clapping that I could never get right
I’d almost forgotten that it’s been so long.
I have to say
“We’re all part of Barton’s army
We’re all going to Rotterdam
And we’ll really shake ‘em up
When we win the Euro cup
‘cos Villa are the greatest Football Team”
Was just so so special for a young lad.
The classic Villa, Villa, Villlllllaaaa
And as stated earlier
C’mon Villa C’mon Villa C’mon Villa, C’mon
Was a special kind of spirit raising.
I always have a soft spot for my old Dad shouting excitedly “Skin him Des” as a certain Mr Bremner took on his man on the right. *Very happy days*

Back in the last few months of 1980/81 season I remember us singing “win the league, win the league, win the league, win the league, win the league, win the league, win the league, win the league, win the league, win the league, WIN THE LEAGUE!”
Probably more of a plea than a chant

Yeah, that was a popular one that season. Almost like we collectively sussed it was within our reach before anyone else did.

Come to villa park and you will see ,
Ansells brewery and M&B,
We dont drink whiskey and we dont drink rum,
We are the villa boys from brum.

Yeah classic that was. Good lad Ginge spent many a Villa game staying in the pub with him and missing the match.

Does anyone remember this one? To the tune of "you're the oldest swinger in town" an Irish folk song:
"When the Blues are away and there's nothing to do,
You take a trip down to Dudley zoo,
And the monkeys there take the piss outta you,
You're the only Blue nose in town.
They've tried Saunders and Rioch an Little 'n all,
They've tried a hundred years and never done fuck all,
They've done fuck all still and they never will,
You're the only Blue nose in town"
Heard that in pubs many times but never heard it sung at the ground.

"Bertie Mee said to Bill Shankly
'Have you heard of the North Bank Highbury?'
Bill says 'No I don't think so,
But I've heard of the Villa Holte End'"
One for the oldies... so, that'll be most of you then!

Ahem. "But I've heard of the Villa aggro"
-
"Luke Mooore
Luke Mooore
And he's got an older brother
And his name is Stefan Moore"
Still makes me smile after all these years

Is the correct answer, as it rhymes

It was done both ways, IIRC.

Could be my memory playing tricks. But I can only recall "but I've heard of the Villa aggro" and it rhymes?
-
Got to be the whole Holte singing:
Villa
Villlaah
Villaaaahhh
Slowly and loud. We don’t seem to do it quite the same nowadays.
The Bells are ringing - was mostly an away song. Fab.
Oh I do like to be by the Seaside. Classic.
And yes Purpletrousers:
I have to say
“We’re all part of Barton’s army
We’re all going to Rotterdam
And we’ll really shake ‘em up
When we win the Euro cup
‘cos Villa are the greatest Football Team”
And in Rotterdam:
We love you linesman we do!

We have had some strange ones also in years gone by,
Late 60,s anyone remember " goodbye horse, goodbye horse, he was saying goodbye to his horse, and as he was saying goodbye to his horse he was saying goodbye to his horse"
God knows what that was about
Also remember some sort of version to Peado Rolf,s two little boys

I remember the horse chant sure enough as I used it all the time. Can't recall the Two Little Boys one though.

Yeah I remember that one. The big boys at the back of the Holte used to sing it and I have never understood why or what the feck it was about.

. Yes, like the others I remember the 'horse' song and also haven't got a clue what it was all about.
"Bring out Arsenal, Man United
Bring on the Spaniards by the score
Barcelona, Real Madrid they will make a gallant bid
But they won't beat the Villa any more... ore... ore
They won't beat the Villa any more"
