Title: Bristol City v Aston Villa Post Match Thread
Post by: PeterWithesShin on September 24, 2020, 08:55:41 PM
Played well, albeit against a reserve side. There's a few that are giving DS some selection questions, which is nice.

Great performance. So often in cup competitions the fringe players fail to impress so great to see the likes of Davis and Ramsey doing well. Also pleased with a debut goal for Traore and yet another goal machine Watkins. Mon you Villa boys.

Great goals.  Looks like we are going to be a useful side.  If we can get another couple in, bring Ramsey into the squad too, we will be decent.

Professional display and one that improves upon the last with players who are not starters. And we did it all without Jack too. Special mention to young Ramsey, KD for his work leading the line and Traore who looked lovely in flashes and took that goal superbly.

Balance, poise, good ball control and pace.

Paid the £10 to watch but missed the first goal as the stream wouldn't load properly on the TV so had to connect the laptop.

The coverage was ok to be fair and we were spared an expert pundit.  The performance was very good all round. I couldn't really fault anyone tonight.

Beat anything I’ve watched on NowTV for quality of picture.

And goals plus celebrations happened before I had score updates on my screen.

WWEMBERLEY, WWEMBERLEYYYY.
I enjoyed that, thought we played some entertaining stuff. I ended up forking out for it, and I think it was worth its tenner.
Davis' shuffles and close control for the first would have left better defenders than theirs with egg on their faces.
Traore looks like he'll be exciting, I hope we'll be solid enough to allow him the freedom to be crap on occasion without it being the end of the world. Bit disappointed not to get to see how quick he is.
And Watkins with the little hop and fist pump after scoring, the bloke just loves putting them away.

Here's hoping we can dispatch Fulham with similar aplomb.

Paid to watch it, very good quality picture throughout and no issues.

Good performance, young Jacob again playing well, Nakamba looked decent enough in the holding role and Davis lead the line well.

Good start to the season and full of positivity.

Traore will be an asset, very composed on the ball, lots of pace and a decent shot on him too.

Only negative for me is Taylor, needs to be moved on quickly and a young hungry left back recruited.

All in all a good performance though.

I thought we played very well and started very strongly. Could have been 4 up by the time Traore scored that fantastic goal.

Front 3 had lots of pace and movement, Ramsey looked good, defence bizarrely solid. Just...surprisingly good. Even the stream was good.

Traore played a number of reverse and through balls. Looks a good un' and that finish...amazing.

Didn't see the game but I've seen some clips and judging by those, and the media reports, it was a top class performance.  Can only be good for Traore and Watkins to score, and Keinan to have another good game.  Limited opponents of course but you still have to put them away.

we’ve struggled in the past to beat these lower level reserve teams so that’s a positive

performance just as important as the result for me
good for 90 minutes which is rare

Traore looks like he has great awareness not just a head down and run fast player
Can’t understand why we are looking to move Guilbert on if indeed we are that would be a big mistake imv
Watkins the goal poacher we need
Ramsey developing well
Davis did everything but score
Hoarse still vying to become the worst player I’ve ever seen at Villa

all in all good positive night well worth the £10 spent

In recent years when we have made changes for cup games we've lost against the likes of Burton, Luton and Wycombe. Last night was light years away from such miserable nights. Positives:

Even with a makeshift team we looked coherent and organised.
Great goal and impressive debut from Traore
Ramsey looks class
Excellent hold up play from Keinan
Guilbert should stay

Negatives

Shame Lee Johnson isn't still around to suffer that drubbing.

Winning games is always good. I know when we lose these cup games we make any number of excuses why and tell ourselves it's not a priority and so on but there's not much better than seeing a Villa team comfortably swatting a team aside. No matter who's in our team or in theirs.

keep Guilbert , incase Trez and El Ghazi carry on looking poor , you could bring Freddie on at RB and push Matty on the wing for 25/30 mins as he looks to have a great final ball on him . in fact he was on the left wing against us in the 5 5 draw and scored .

Title: Re: Bristol City v Aston Villa Post Match Thread

I don't mind Elmo, I had question marks over his defending when he joined but he's improved since he's bene here, far fewer silly mistakes now. However he's 33, if we're moving on one of the right backs I don't think he offers anything more than Guilbert who is 7-8 years younger and coming towards his prime rather than at the end of it. If it's a financial decision then that's fair enough I guess but in terms of squad development I'd rather keep Freddie.

That said I would be against keeping both for a year and having Elmo as an older head covering 3-4 different positions.
