We're a bit thin at CB - seems Freddie will be playing there tonight. Will be good to see how Bert gets on
-
A tad concerned whether my match pass was £10 well spent.
-
defence apart from Guilbert is horrendous
hopefully won’t be under to much pressure
-
Win please.
-
I'd hoped for stronger but have no idea if they're playing a weakened team as I haven't heard of any of them.
-
Still no Engels.
Jack and Luiz have the night off. Cash too? Surprised, he's not earned royalty status yet. And the stories about Samatta in Turkey look to be true. No Jota either, maybe he's also negotiating a move.
-
Christ trying to be positive but ... WTF is that! Before seeing the line up I thought this would be tricky, now I'm certain we will lose tonight. BC are no mugs, made a great start to the season, they'll see this as a big scalp, and we have put out very much a reserve side.
I don't get it.
-
Hmm. Seeing how the draw pans out, I think I’d have liked a slightly stronger team. Sure, rest a couple. But w shave a, on paper ,straightforward route to quarter finals ?
-
Not got much faith in that line up,hope Bristol are not taking it serious either
-
If ever we needed reminding how weak our squad depth is, that lineup certainly does the trick.
-
I can understand why the team is like it is. We have another game on Monday then another cup game next week should we go though followed by Liverpool a few days later. Might as well use the squad.
-
Freddie playing centre half? Interesting, I had a feeling they might be viewing him as cover for that position now.
-
I'd much rather play a few of the youth team and enjoy seeing what they can do see what they offer
than see Lansbury Hause, Taylor El Ghazi lumbering around all night
-
Looks like we’re trying to get knocked out and reduce our fixture congestion with that lineup.
-

Good point. Its good to see Ramsey in there but why not throw a few of the other promising youngsters in - they would be hungry to impress - rather than see if we can get a tune of out players we long ago consigned to the reserves. I mean Lansbury ................. should never see him in a Villa shirt again!
-
Wow. I’m not sure I was expecting that lineup...
-
I was a bit concerned by the line-up, until I read that Bristol City have made 8 changes themselves from the side that beat Stoke at the weekend.
Basically, it looks like our reserves against theirs. You'd think we'd have enough to win that?
-
Might not fork out a £10
-
With a bit of luck, Lansbury will have a blinder and will convince a watching Championship club that he's worth a punt for the season.

Although obviously Chris Brunt will score, like he does every time he plays us.

Well, obviously.
A consolation in the 93rd minute with any luck.

I looked at the team and thought Elmo was playing Centre Back ! How tall is Freddie ?

5'10"

Them 1 Us 5
-
I think Elmo will be playing centre half
-
0 - 3 Villa
Lansbury Hatrick
signed by Fulham next day for £18 million
-
That line-up is somewhat of a surprise to put it mildly.
-
An unpretty 2-1 win for us.
-
Lansbury is playing centre half.
-
0 - 3 Villa
Lansbury Hatrick
signed by Fulham next day for £18 million
That would be acceptable as long as he's not eligible for Monday's game.
-
Massive for Davis - needs to perform / score, no excuses.
-
0 - 3 Villa
Lansbury Hatrick
signed by Fulham next day for £18 million
That would be acceptable as long as we insist that he plays in Monday's game.
Fixed that for you.
-
Nakhi Wells on the bench he always scores against us and they have a decent if unpronounceable striker.

I seem to remember him causing Terry quite a few problems at Ashton Gate in the first Championship season.

Not paying a tenner....any other streams, or even radio coverage ?

Nyland on the way out?

I'd prefer it if he WAS eligible.

El Ghazi "shoots" from 30 yards. Bounces wide.

Yesss !! Well later Davis

Excellent by Davis - amazing what a bit of confidence can do.

My commentary is about 15 seconds later than the comments on here!
-
Great work by Keinan.

Notification of the goal came literally as I was looking at Wembley from the train I’m in. If that isn’t a sign that it’s our year then I don’t know what is.

Traore wonder goal
-
Again!?
-
This is the most direct and attacking I've seen Davis play for a while. Promising.
-
And it was a scorcher by Traore
-
Get in
-
Yessssss Traore
-
That was rather nice too.
-
OMG Traore!!!!
-
WHO IS THIS PLAYER WE HAVE SIGNED. The pass from Ramsey too. Kid is a baller.
-
What a goal!!!!!!
-
Anyone fancy sharing? PM would be appreciated
-
Fuck me what a debut goal!!
-
Please pm me too if you have a river to share ! Ta.
-
The difference in sharpness from last week v Burton is incredible!
-
I just wish we would fill the other wing position too. Traore comes with Lyon fans saying he was wonderfully frustrating... if he can do that again in the league, I won’t mind.
I know El Ghazi has scored tonight too, but he’s still a bit too lightweight in my opinion.
-
Traore is going to tear Joe Bryan a new one at the weekend.

Pm gratefully received

Beautiful pass from Ramsey as well.
-
Mind you, Lamptey scored a fantastic goal on his debut in the LC.

Surprisingly good game this.

Just watched the goals on Sky sports, two crackers. Davis was superb for the first one and what a sublime finish from Traore.

Just seen the goals on Sky.
Bloody hell, I hope Traore meant that.
If he did....wow !!!!!

You can pay a tenner on the Carabao site can't you?

I actually forked out the £10 in the end. I wouldn’t normally... not regretting it.

Davis WTF - who is this guy playing in his shirt?
-
Lansbury is shocking.

Decent first half.
-
Great first half. Not really a bad word to say about it.
-
Traore is playing himself firmly into the league team here
-
Excellent performance. Totally bossing it.

El Garbage
Completely unwarranted. Would you be shouting it from the stands if you were there?

Been working okay for me.

They’re bringing on Gerry Gow and Tom Ritchie at Half Time.

The run to the line by Davis and the little delay in the pass was sublime.
And Traoré? Wow.

El Garbage

Nah, I'd have a mask on. It'd come across as a bit muffled to be honest, mate :)
-
Davis has been exceptional.
-
Davis has been exceptional.
Seems to have some confidence. Good to see.
-
Besides the pisstakingly nonchalant finish, what I also liked about Traore's goal was that when Ramsey is looking to pick the pass, he sees 3 separate forward runs to choose from. More of this, please.
-
Well worth the tenner, though doubted it would be when I saw the teamsheet! Really good performance thus far.
Davis has been superb, and like the look of Traore. I know the opposition isn't top notch, but the fringe players have put a shift in and are playing well.
-
Lansbury is shocking.
???? are you watching the same game? he's spraying passes all over the place playing pretty good in my opinion. There isn't one player who is not playing well.
-
I came on here to slag off Dean's team selection tonight so I will have my two pennies worth. Disgraceful line up , why does he needs to rest players , totally shambolic not taking the cup seriously.
THERE :-[
-
Davis, Traore, Guilbert and Ramsey have all been excellent, 2 very good goals and then tidy and sensible from then on. With VAR I reckon we'd have a third from the spot as well, look like Ramsey got clipped as he was running in for a pretty straight-forward chance.
-
Perhaps the quick follow up from the Burton game when he scored and got a dose of confidence, plus signing the new contract, and presumably has had a good week training, has given him the boost we were all looking for.
-
All looking pretty good!

I believe it’s just regular game time he needs... not just 10 mins at the end of a game

Lansbury has been very good in this game.

Good work so far against a decent championship team.
Is AEM at CB?
-
Davis new contract seems to have given him a boost in confidence. He might even win a few over on here if he keeps it up.

Lansbury is shocking.

Maybe he should start over McGinn next monday? McGinn has been getting a few peltersLansbury is shocking.

Perhaps this is the start of his Villa career then.

No one is doubting his ability as a footballer Lee.
But he scores at a rate that makes Heskey look like Ronaldo. He has to add that to his game, against Premier League teams. Right now he is a very good footballer that plays up front and never gets into goalscoring positions. He needs to play. Regularly for a season at a good level and prove he can add that to his game.
-
He’s proving he’s good against championship opposition. Although he’s definitely improving.

Lansbury? :)

My viewing platform appears to be having difficulties.
Can anyone oblige?

El Ghazi is such a frustrating player.

Lovely move. El Ghazi blasts it over.... and wide.

Lovely throughball from Traore to El Ghazi

Should hit the target there Anwar.

The rate is misleading, it's not like he's played consecutive games and been spooning the ball over bar, or even playing in a team that creates loads of chances.
We always, always look a better team when he plays.

Trez and Ollie getting ready to come on

For me, Davis has huge credit in the bank, from when he first appeared in the team under Bruce and as a kid, led the line as a lone striker for weeks.

Could've scored 5 or 6 tonight, AEG misses another good chance.

How is Traore playing please?
-
Traore and KD off
-
Have being saying for ages that Davis is good player.
Need to play him with Watkins and give him fair few starts. 442.
Traore Grealish Luiz McGinn is a very decent midfield.
-
How is Traore playing please?
good, no doubting he'll be starting right wing in the league soon enough.
-
How is Traore playing please?
Good on the ball, takes initiative going forward, seems to understands that having more goals than the opponent classifies as a win.

Good effort Keinon, well done.

Davis works his bollocks off for 70 mins - within 2 mins Watkins scores a tap in.
-
Great finish Ollie 👌🏼
-
Watkins!
-
We are looking rather decent and still have players to add. I have to say very impressed with KD tonight. Traoe looks a cut above any other option we have on that side of the park. And young Ramsey looks great. Ollie is just a natural up front. Loving this right now.

Ollie is a true poacher, love to see it.
-
Job done. Nice finish Ollie
-
Isn’t it bloody lovely , to play a game , control it, score a few , and just get about our business in timely fashion.
With a basically reverse team ( I accept theirs is too)
The fact I can post this with 15 mins to go.!
Good times.

But he's never going to start a game at Villa. He needs full games to find his shooting boots.

Just saw the goal on Sky, lovely move and finish. We look decent.

Davis done really well tonight and tried really hard but this is the levels.

Hotlips on for Angela

Brilliant.
He started the move in his own half near the touch line and busted a gut to get on the end of a cross for a decent tap in in the box.

I'm all for good strikers who work hard and get involved in the play like Davis did tonight.... but I much prefer one who gets plenty of easy tap ins.
-
Davis works his bollocks off for 70 mins - within 2 mins Watkins scores a tap in.
And I guess that's the difference. Because although it was a tap in eventually, he picked up the ball wide on the halfway line, held it up, passed it forward, and bust a gut to be on the six yard line 10 seconds later.
Davis has been great tonight, but I don't think anyone would expect him to have been anywhere near where Watkins was if he'd been involved in that passage of play.

At quarter to six

And he won’t be able to do it at Stoke as we’ll be at home.

Jacob Ramsay - a player I'd never really seen before - has really looked like a talented kid thus far this season.

He did much better than your attempt at English.

I love that Ollie is a tap in merchant. He can do a lot more of course but his runs and timing are all so instinctive. We so needed that

Ramsey
-

Ramsey is exceptional.

Watkins looks sharp - could have had a hat-trick... couple of good saves.

Hause is a f.... liability. He always does mistakes playing out of defence

Sounds like we have missed a hatfull?

This could easily have been 6-0
-
Jacob Ramsay - a player I'd never really seen before - has really looked like a talented kid thus far this season.
Ramsay, Archar and Bridje are the pick of the bunch.
-
Lovely to see the new guys scoring.
I hope Ramsey gets some opportunities in the league.
-
We need to stop this playing out from gk possession. We nearly got caught out there. Better opposition will hurt us when we do it.
Also, despite a good performance tonight, Taylor’s touch is poor
-
Just seen Ollie’a goal, real poachers finish.
-
Great move. Ramsey almost capped a great game with a goal. I really like the look of that kid.
-
Who was the shaggy haired character that missed the cross that Watkins tapped in for? Hardly Lansbury?
-
Just seen Ollie’a goal, real poachers finish.
No.
It was much more than that.

Davis done really well tonight and tried really hard but this is the levels.
I'm all for good strikers who work hard and get involved in the play like Davis did tonight.... but I much prefer one who gets plenty of easy tap ins.
They are not mutually exclusive though.
true - Watkins looks the part.

Good goals from Gaza, BT and Wattie tonight. Hello Lee B.
-
For me, Davis has huge credit in the bank, from when he first appeared in the team under Bruce and as a kid, led the line as a lone striker for weeks.
He might not be prolific, but as Lee says, we look a better team when Davis plays.
Debut against Norwich was superb
Yes, I was there and having seen it is why I have always been convinced he's really good. I said at the time his shielding of the ball and the way it stuck to him reminded me of Mark Hughes.
He's perfect for your central support striker role with inside forwards either side.

Lansberry did ok, hopefully someone will have seen and want him. Wotkinz looks good.
-
Ramsey, putting McGinns or Hourihanes starting place under pressure?
-
Watkins control when he holds it up is fantastic.

Watch it (swings satchell agressively)

Ramasses could threaten McGinn’s place at this rate.
-
Is Ramsey good enough to play a league game?

Agri massiv gud gols ainee.

Who was the shaggy haired character that missed the cross that Watkins tapped in for? Hardly Lansbury?
He didn't miss it. The ball was never his it was Ollie's for the taking.
-
Is Ramsey good enough to play a league game?
No but Ramsay could be if he's on our books.
-
I support the Rams.

Would rather see him in for Hourihane.
-
The finish from Traore was superb, but the way the boy Ramsey executed the pass was fucking ace, that impudent dink, absolutely love that.

Yes that was our mercurial number 8 just a step too slow to get near the ball.

All hail Ramses the Great!
-
Just seen Ollie’a goal, real poachers finish.
No.
It was much more than that.
100%, Watsy is looking a treasure already.
-
great win. A few good performances. Davis, Ramsey and Traore did great.

We score a lovely goal fafter a great move. Ball on a plate for our new striker to bury. All good? Reason to be happy? No apparently some of us would rather look for a reason to have a pop at one of our players. We really are a strange lot sometimes.

Edge you are always on the edge. Just chill a little bit. It's just chat.
