Title: Bristol City v Villa - League Cup round three Pre-Match Thread - Thursday 7pm
Post by: Toronto Villa on September 22, 2020, 03:17:21 AM
The games are coming thick and fast. We should see Traore so looking forward to that. A favourable home draw vs Stoke or Gillingham should be enough incentive to hopefully see a professional display.

Iíll go for 2-0 on the night. Watkins and Conor.

An opportunity to improve fitness and sharpness.

We are a week behind most of the others and it showed against Sheffield last night.

Not a bad shout Vinnie. Gotta keep the squad players interested. Iíd maybe try and get Ramsay involved at some point seeing as he supposedly did well against Burton (didnít see the game, but heard he did  well).

I'd go:
Steer
Cash Hause Mings Targett
McGinn Nakamba Hourihane
Traore Davis Watkins

McGinn and Targett need games to improve their fitness, neither of them look in great shape.

I can't see him wanting to make players play 3 games in 8 days. I think he'll leave one or two in but that's it, especially if we get through and have to play the next round a week later or whenever it is.

Is it available to watch at all?

Nyland was picked ahead of Steer the last day so I'd expect that will continue. Would pick Hourihane or McGinn or anyone really ahead of Lansbury who is a waste of a shirt. I expect he will give AEG another go on the left.

With Samatta going it seems, I canít see Ollie starting and being risked.
Play Davis, fresh with his new contract and have Watkins on the bench.

I think this will be tougher than we think and weíll grind out a 2-1 win.

Iíd like to see a virtual full strength team for this - we were clearly rusty Monday and itís too early to start meaning about too many games.

I would give Steer an outing (he deserves it) and Iíd like to see Freddie tried on the left in place Targett (but Smith wonít so wishful thinking). Bring Traore in for Trez. Thatís the only change Iíd make.

It will be a tough game. If we play the team we played against Burton, I think itís 50/50

Iíd like to see him play a strong team as Bristol are decent at home and this could be the proverbial banana skin. However, rusty on Monday or not, I donít see him playing a lot of first teamsters with sheff 3 days earlier and Fulham in 4 days.

Steer
Elmo (donít think weíll see Guilbert again)
Taylor
Hause
Mings (our of necessity)
Nakamba
Ramsey
Lansbury
Traore
Davis
El Ghazi

I wouldn't be surprised to see a significantly changed team tomorrow night.

I'd probably give McGinn a run out, as he looked like he most needed minutes, and Traore 50-60 mins to get him up to speed as I'd like to see him start and leave Joe Bryan on his arse at the weekend.

Other than that, I don't think it is worth risking anyone. We had a good run in this competition last year, but with the absolutely bonkers schedule over the next few months, it wouldn't be the end of the world if we went out after giving some fringe players minutes, and avoided as much as possible this 3-games-in-8-days scenario for the first part of the season. Would be good to see Davis have a start leading the line, see Ramsey again, even maybe Louie Barry.

The one thing that puzzles me is this. We started a week later in the league so, itís being said we are rusty. On the other hand, when there are 3 games in an 8 day period, we are burning ourselves out. Seems to be a problem either way. Now, if someone tells me itís because we donít want to risk injuries, I could live with that but, again, injuries can occur particularly if someone is not match fit. My headís hurting trying to figure out this dilemma!!

I remember seeing a video on Pravda from when he first came back to Villa. It was an interview with Grealish and it was proper creepy. Grealish is normally relaxed and friendly in interviews but Woodward's over-familiarity made him give out decidedly 'who that fuck are you, and what do you want?' vibes. Cringy viewing.

Yes other options include :
On Sky Sports news from 7pm they will have in play match highlights and that. Though mere snippets all goals will be shown .
And if it goes to penalties (no extra time)they will show the whole shoot out not just commentary but pictures.

I imagine Lee Hendrie will be doing the game if he's available!

Also once game has finished highlights/goals will be online on Sky Sports football website and YouTube channel.

Channel Quest which have league cup highlights opted to show a programme last night which means they miss out on 3 matches of today.

I don't know if they will do Wednesday again next week as Villa will be most likely playing on Thursday (after Fulham Monday) and v Stoke I don't see as a sky live TV fixture but depends on how the fixtures are arranged next week.

Is the 5th Round Draw after the Liverpool game?

Hi no that won't be this week .
The quarter finals won't be played till December so the draw will be made after 4th round ( the last 16 matches) perhaps next Thursday at the earliest though Carabo may look for a time slot to market it in at a different time? As they have been known to try out all sorts for the draw

But no as the draws where only made for 3rd and 4th round they'll be no need for the  quarter final draw to be made this week

Up the Villa
