Spurs were even arrogant for no reason back then!
Fast forward to 40 Minutes bought a tear to my eye.

2:17. "Although Villa would never see themselves as underdogs."
-
Just incredible. Moore was the best.
-
All thanks to Vic, Ron and the lads. One of the more glamorous stops on the road back.
-
31:27 Brian Moore... "There it is, Martin Chivers. Spurs are ahead, and they really don't deserve to be"
-
Is that the final where Perryman cleared one off the line?

Is that the final where Perryman cleared one off the line?
It was. I once discussed this game at length during a job interview (with the CQC I think), even though it was six months before I was born, with one of the blokes interviewing me who was a Spurs fan. Unsurprisingly didn't get the job.

25:00 Yes, from Andy Lochhead. The camera is on Rioch who is down and just switches in time to see Perryman get back. I can still see it all these years on.
-
Cheers for that
-
Big Andy said afterwards that he didn't hit his shot as hard as he could have done because he knew he had fouled Collins by pushing him into Jennings. but the ref, with his Spurs shirt under his uniform, hadn't spotted the obvious foul!
If only...
-
There was a brilliant reception for the team at the Council House. Amidst the atmosphere of celebration, Ron Wylie said, "All that's missing is the flamin' cup!"
-
I was 13 and Dad took us on a special train from New St to Wembley Central made up of dining cars with a meal on the train. (Very posh !)
As well as my Mom and brother there was an old fella who came with us who was telling us on the journey down about when he was about my age going to watch the Villa at the 1905 FA Cup final at the Crystal Palace. (Beat Newcastle 2-0, Harry Hampton both goals).
The club also did a souvenir brochure which I will look out and put on here some time.

Nice work.
It was quite a good brochure, actually.

Dear all
This is a heartfelt request .does anyone have the football review from 1971 .
There is as I seem to remember an article that inspired me as well as many other things .
To love my Club . The article said that the slumbering lion and now it's awake I make a prediction within 20 years it will have the biggest prizes within it's grasp
I truly think it was 71 but admit it maybe 74
League review given away free with the programmes please help my sanity
-
Hi Sunny.
The Villa programme didn't include the FL review after 1969, as I recall, when Villa went to a 'magazine-style' programme.
I realise this may not help!
-
31:27 Brian Moore... "There it is, Martin Chivers. Spurs are ahead, and they really don't deserve to be"
I think Brian Moore was a Spurs fan, fair play to the great commentator.
-
He made up for it in 1982!
-
Great to watch that....my first ever visit to Wembley as a young 16 year old, great day, great performance, tragic result.
A springboard to greater things...if only for fans undoubtedly.
-
That's how old I was on the day, with similar feelings to boot!
-
If only Andy had hit the bloody ball harder and gave Perryman no chance to get back .I think most people were expecting the foul to be given but Andy failed to play to the whistle and only kind of half hit his shot
-
That's exactly what happened, with all the Spurs players seemingly frozen, waiting for the whistle to blow.
Except for that bastard Perryman, of course!
-
Perryman lived up the road from us for a while, but I was still too sore to talk about this. Never known support like the Villa fans at Wembley that day, absolutely awesome. Was totally gutted though and cried all the way home on the Football special from Wembley Central.U was only 10 in my defence.
-
Yes, the support was superb, and there were a few tears at this end as well.
Decades later, I heard Perryman being interviewed on the radio, just before he was retiring as Director of Football at Exeter, and he came across as a good bloke.
-
50 years ago today. Heartbreak, raw pride and a massive step forward.
-
Wow. 50 years ago today! I'm feeling all emotional again, just as I did a couple of months ago when it was the 50th anniversary of wining the semi-final.
-
"Not that Aston Villa will ever see themselves as underdogs."
-
My first visit to Wembley, fantastic occasion, Villa fans were unbelievable. We were playing a very good Spurs team, which included Jennings, Knowles, Mullery, Gilzean, Perryman, Chivers and Peters, they ended up 3rd in the league. Remember the late great Spurs boss Bill Nicholson praising us highly, although I don't think he went as far as to say we were the better team, which we were for the first 78 mins.
Dunn, Bradley, Aitken, Godfrey, Turnbull, Tiler, McMahon, Rioch, Lochhead, Hamilton, Anderson. Sub Gibson
-
Two days after I was born. I had a ticket obviously, but they wouldn’t let me out of Marston Green hospital. Red tape.
-
Some great footage out there on youtube
My favourite kit
listen as spurs go up for the cup, Wembley resounds to, Villa, Villa, Villa
Really a milestone on our way back, respect from the media and acknowledgement of the latent/actual/ potential support we had
-
Unearthed some Villa related newspapers in my loft today including a couple of pages from The Birmingham Post.
I'll upload them now

Great pictures, Nunkin. I recall reading these articles at the time (1971).
-
Cheers and its great to contribute a little bit to the thread.
It must have been a very emotional and proud day to be a Villa fan.
Standing toe to toe with Spurs must have been a special experience.
-
It was! We played really well.
All you could hear as Spurs went up to get the cup, were the Villa fans, who were brilliant all game.
-
posted on this thread before
The size and passion of our support was recognised around now, record Div 3 attendance's, the Man Utd Semis.
The nerve tingling sounds at Wembley of, Villa, Villa, Villa as spurs went up to lift the cup.
This was the bedrock of the 70,s years
