Delusion fully restored after yesterday’s win. We start well and get an early goal, they give us a scare, we finish the job like we haven’t done all season.

1-3 Grealish, Trez and Hourihane with a stunning free kick to ease the nerves).

Everton fans seem to think if we turn up we'll beat them. They don't have a lot of love for their team. (https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/everton-v-aston-villa-thursday-16-july-18-00.110644/) Most furious after the Wolves humiliation.

Saying that, we've been numerous times up against teams with players out, on a bad run, can't score to save their lives, fans on their backs and what happens? We roll over.

No excuses. Fight to the death. 1-3 Villa (Conor, Samatta and McGinn).

I can't be bothered watching these gutless, heartless excuses for professional footballers anymore. Most of them are fraudsters. They've ripped the soul and passion out of the club. Recruitment, coaching and personnel need gutted. A few ruthless home truths need to come from the top brass at the club, otherwise we'll be another leeds/shef wed/forest. The downward spiral needs nipped in the bud or Everton fc will end up in the wilderness of the lower leagues.

Yes, it's that perilous at the minute. Wholesale rot in a club is hard to reverse quickly. Our failings are obvious. Start addressing them NOW.

Everton are a bang average team, we actually beat them earlier in the season. But I think is where it will effectively end us for us in the top division. A spirited display but a 3-2 defeat. Just think Ancelotti will have told them in no uncertain terms that their futures will be elsewhere if they perform again like they did v Wolves.

I don’t remember but, probably under Bruce? He was forced into a couple of changes due to injuries to his favoured players and, it actually turned our fortunes around and we went on a bit of a run of wins? Same as the forced changes v Palace seemed to make us a better team yesterday?

I think it's fair to say its a must win. I've seen a lot of these not won to be honest, but I do think we should be more committed - as much as Everton fans want a good performance, we're in the middle of a pandemic and Everton are safe.

Had this down as a draw in my "escape plan" and i'm sticking to it. More confident now obviously after the palace game but the fact remains our forwards still don't look like they're gonna score between now and the end of the season.

Five points keeps us up if either Watford or West Ham lose their final games and if Bournemouth get less than four points from their last three, so while we should obviously be going for the win, I'd prefer us not to be throwing keepers up for corners if it's 0-0 late on.

Think it's must win, but will be a frustrating draw, where a point would be welcomed in normal circumstances.

That would keep us hanging on for another week probably by the skin of our teeth, but make survival a lot less likely than it already is.

I think we'll beat Arsenal and take it to the last game. We're due a win against one of the SKY Top of Topest half dozen and they always strike me as the one most likely to implode or rollover. End of the day, 1 of the next 2 games has to be a win or its all over.

Every time we have needed a big performance, we have failed dismally, other than against Palace, so, hopefully a tide turned.  Dean says that his team can play under pressure.  This is massive so there could not be more pressure, so go out and show us what you can do.

Well yeah, but I like to think i'm basing it on some resemblence of logic, mainly their recent form against Tottenham and before that, snatching a draw from the jaws of victory against Leicester. I never predicted we'd get anything from the Man U or Liverpool games, so while i'm hopeful, i'm not insane/drunk.

Everton are on the beach and very suspect defensively. Get at them and we can get something from this. We will concede because they've got a front two who score goals, but we cannot afford to lose it. I'm hoping we catch them in cruise control, but get on the front foot quickly and take our chances.

2-1 Villa. Hourihane FK, Grealish belter.

My Everton supporting mate is not confident on this one. The last performance was much better. Think we have a decent chance of a win.

Not likely we stay up, but feels good to see us fighting, get a result and then maybe just maybe the confidence will flow and the stars will align for us.

I expect we'll play well, have a few chances, lead 1-0 at HT, have a few more, not capitalise when on top, concede a silly goal midway through the 2nd half, then they'll be chances for both sides but it'll be an entertaining 1-1.

By all accounts Everton were a shambles last time out and from what I've read on their forums no-one is expecting that to change.  If that's true then we just have to be good enough to take advantage.  We have far more riding on this than them so I'm cautiously hoping for a win.
