Anfield, Sunday 5th July 16.30KO.
-
Them 1 Us 3
-
Them 1 Us 3
Yep, all day long. Benteke x2 and Weimann.
-
I'd rest some players for this one. Give others a chance to play and wait for the important games.
With that in mind I think we'll scrape a 1-2 win.
-
We will definitely win and anyone who says otherwise is deluded.
-
How many of the kids that played us need games for a medal? I think they might pick a couple or three, give them a second chance at having at the Villa. Despite that, it's not hard to think they'll be too strong for us.
Heart says 2-2, head says 3-2 them. Luiz with both ours.
-
Expecting to get brutalized.
-
Heart says 0-1.
Head says 6-0.
-
It's their first game back at Klanfield as Champions. They will win. I hope I'm wrong.
-
Klopp was very
complimentary patronising about us and Villa Park after the league game. Hopefully he'll want to return.
More likely he's still peeved that we didn't fly to Qatar to play the League Cup tie.
-
Not that often I don't go for a Villa win. Can't see us getting close to a point from this one.
Hope I am proved wrong!
-
Reverse of 1976. 5-1 them first half. With us drawing the 2nd half.
-
Two dull teams.* It's got 0-0 written all over it.
*I refer to their borefest CL Final with Spurs.
-
0-4
-
I think that I'll give this a miss and wash my hair instead
-
Liverpool 6 Villa -3. We won't even get nil in this one.
-
Liverpool 6-0 Villa
As if the absolute pummelling on the pitch won't be enough, we'll have to listen to three hours of a Sky Sports Liverpool dedicated wankfest, 30 years in the making!
I'll record it on the slim off chance that the planets align and we resemble something looking like a coherent football team, but no way am I watching this shit show willingly!
-
Premier League record 10-0.
-
Premier League record 10-0.
No don't reckon we'll get that many.
-
I'm dreading this. Three nil to them.
-
Lots - nil
Will our lot have to do that cringeworthy, embarrassing, demeaning ‘guard of honour’ thing?
-
Checks diary to see if it's Valentines Day, wouldn't want another massacre. Fully expecting to get one mind.
-
I think that I'll give this a miss and wash my hair instead
I'll be cutting my toenails. This is a traumatic experience for me and involves the use of goggles, crash helmet and mini shears.
-
You can currently get odds of 17/2 against us winning this one.
-
If we can`t beat the likes of Bournemouth over two games there no way we will pick up anything in this one - I fear a smashing - totally outplayed and Liverpool take their foot off the gas at 4- 0. The same will happen when we return to Merseyside for the fixture across the park - although we may sneak a goal in that one
-
We had accounts send an email today about a payment in from Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Ltd, did anybody recognise it to bank it.
Sadly it appears Klopp has returned my bribe. Sorry lads, I tried.
-
No points from this one.
-
6 - 0 to them I reckon.
-
2-0 to us.
As Peter Cook said, we need a futile gesture at this stage in the warthread.
-
we might play well we might not
we might get thrashed we might not
it might be a tight game it might not
they might play a few youngsters they might not
they might not put 100% effort in they might not
they will win we will lose
-
I hope they beat Man City tonight and then have a rest on Sunday by playing a load of kids. Either than, or they suffer outrageous injuries and sendings off tonight. That said, the way we are playing, without setting all those wonderful traps and being really hard to beat and the fantastic spending we have been involved with, I reckon their kids will beat us. Hope for the best, expect utter tosh. This is Villa.
-
I would 100% be playing Drinkwater alongside Luiz anchoring midfield for the first hour of the next two games - we have to find a way to get Jack / McGinn etc further up field and none of the other central midfielders have taken their chances
Reina
Guilbert Mings Hause Taylor
Luiz Drinkwater
McGinn Jack A.N.Other
Davis
Who would get the other shirt I have no clue - Nakamba / Hourihane / El Ghazi have done barely nothing since restart to deserve to start
Trezeguet / Jota / Lansbury have done little all season to deserve a go
Sure Reina won’t start as Nylands brain fart vs Wolves didn’t cost a goal but his inability to catch is worrying me more
Not sure if Guilbert fit but if he is he’d be busy tracking Robertson :-)
Sure Taylor will give Alexander-Arnold a game :-)
-
Hause and Taylor will be our defence, yikes!
6-1 pulverising.
-
I’m just glad we aren’t being given another free day pass by the club.
I’m expecting a good hiding but you never know.
-
2-1 Villa, we have to start getting something, somewhere, Bournemouth are away to Man Utd, tough call for them, just when you think it couldn't get more tricky Watford are at Chelsea, fortunately Watford are no West Ham, but the West Ham win will give them renewed hope and a target to aim for, we need to get something from Liverpool. can't let Watford, Bournemouth or West Ham to start pulling away from us now.
-
Some people have clearly been allowed in the pub a day early. If we win a corner on Sunday I’ll be pleased, let alone the game.
-
The answer is ;
Phone Ross McCormack up and ask him to lock the Doors to our changing rooms with the players in there, and accept a pools panel liverpool 2 = 0 victory.
-
It’s not going to be fun😥
-
Liverpool will be knackered.2-0 us.
-
It's their first game back at Klanfield as Champions. They will win. I hope I'm wrong.
No, you're right, it is their first game back there.
-
Maybe a 3-5-1-1 which would allow for Jack playing just behind Samatta:
Reina
Gilbert Mings Hause
Elmohamady Luiz McGinn Hourihane El Ghazi
Grealish
Samatta
Something different is worth a try. However, Mane not going to have another stinker and will suddenly find his shooting boots.
-
Silly phone has put Ghazi under Elmo. Ghazi should be on the right hand side after El
-
Them 1 Us 3
Yep, all day long. Benteke x2 and Weimann.
1-3, Dublin, Hendrie and Vassell. Gerrard sent off for hacking Boateng's leg off. Two days later the twin towers come down.
-
17-12
-
On the plus side, Sheffield Utd., Burnley and West Ham all looked sluggish and below par in their earlier games before springing into life.
Back to reality: we will get a severe tonking.
-
I fear a hammering is on the cards. 4-0.
-
They looked to me as though they had been on the beer for a week - we need to at least get a draw (and no I have not been drinking)!!
-
Liverpool will be looking for someone to give a hammering to, having just been hammered 4-0 by Man City.
-
After man £ity winning 4-0 we will get the payback 4 or 5 0 to Bin dippers
-
I'd rather play a Liverpool who've just been battered and looked miles off it, than a Liverpool who just battered a side as good as Man City.
Liverpool's defending was as bad as ours at Watford, which is quite remarkable.
-
An absolute spanking. If we keep it to 5 i will be pleased. Bet your house on Firminio to score (hes not scored at Anfield all season)
-
Do they have Champions League to worry about soon?
-
Liverpool will rest a few players but I still think anything less than 3-0 and Dean will claim a moral victory.
-
Do they have Champions League to worry about soon?
They are out?
-
Do they have Champions League to worry about soon?

Coronavirus spreading Atletico Madrid!
-
0-3 Grealish hat-trick.
I reckon Jack might be up for this game knowing the rivalry between his new paymasters and the red scouse.
Maybe Maguire will reciprocate the 'like' Grealish gave him with a Villa win.
(winky thingamajig)
-
0-7 at best.
A routine 0-3 shafting has just been aggravated by Citeh embarrassing them last night.
Klopp will want blood to show it was a post celebration blip and normal service has been resumed.
Step forward the most obliging team in the league ....
-
A bit left field 3 3 McGinn x2 Konsa
-
0-3 Grealish hat-trick.
I reckon Jack might be up for this game knowing the rivalry between his new paymasters and the red scouse.
Maybe Maguire will reciprocate the 'like' Grealish gave him with a Villa win.
(winky thingamajig)
Yes, it would be super if Jack and the boys were 'up for this one'.
It must be so hard to motivate themselves sometimes, particularly at the end of a season full of dead rubbers.
-
Important toss to win.
Put them in first and get some early wickets.
The Anfield pitch isn't renowned for spin but I reckon Jim Cumbes medium pace could get some joy, their middle order batting looked weak against City last night.
My heart says we will win a five set epic.
My head says we will lose in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.
-
Only one winner - and it will be big.
6-0 to 'The Mighty Reds YNWA'
-
More than a 4-0 defeat I'm fearful.
-
My sister's dog's due for a long walk. Sunday afternoon will be perfect.
-
Samatta/Davis didn't work at all v Wolves so I think we need to try McGinn or AEG up there instead playing off Davis. McGinn was actually decent enough when he came on v Wolves so maybe bring both of them in. Midfield options are very limited as looks like Drinky or even Ramsey aren't seen as an option and we can't consider starting Hourihane at Anfield. Our shape defensively was decent against Wolves so think we should keep a similar formation
If Steer still isn't fit then I think we need to get the tubby baldly guy back in nets. Hit Davis and play from there when we get the ball.
--------------------Reina
Guilbert/Elmo, Hause, Mings, Taylor
----------------------Luiz
----------McGinn, Nakamba,
------------------Grealish
---------------AEG, Davis
-
Reina to start and have an absolute blinder - us to win 1-0. Van Dick bringing down Jack in the 97th min, ref books Jack for diving but VAR (Kevin Friend) overturns the decision and gives us a pen, Jack takes it and scores a 'panenka'
Happy days

Straws to clutch at.
In 1982/83 Liverpool wrapped up the league with plenty of games to spare.
Their last six games were W 0 D 1 L 5.

My sister's dog's due for a long walk. Sunday afternoon will be perfect.
I never miss a Villa game but I’m also planning to take the dog for a long walk at 4.30 on Sunday, especially if Liverpool name a strong line up. I really think it will be painful to watch.

Dog owners are part time supporters.
I've got cats. Proper fan !

They are out?
Coronavirus spreading Atletico Madrid!
I take no notice of other competitions I have no vested interest in!!
-
I wonder if it's worth giving Vassilav (or whatever his name is) a go with Samatta? Davis has done ok but he doesn't seem to have a goal threat in him although we didn't create anything for both forwards in fairness against Wolves. Worth a try me thinks.
-
Hoping for a win...I'll be in hiding as it's 4th of July weekend over here.
Regardless, these are not the games that define our season :)

If we go down with Bournemouth and Norwich, Watford may disagree.

Haha, typical.
-
Goal difference damage limitation should probably be the priority, much will depend on whether it's hangover/on the beach Liverpool or bounce-back from a heavy defeat Liverpool that turns up. Either version will probably beat us, the issue is by how any.
-
Clinging to the hope we are due some luck. Win this and we stay up. Don't care how jammy we are, stranger things happen.
-
3-0 Liverpool another nail in the coffin
-
If anyone on here should happen to see Herr Klopp out walking his dog, can you slip him a brown envelope of cash between now and Sunday and ask him to do the decent thing?
-
I heard today from a pretty good source that 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' have been on an almighty bender for days.
The problem is that they will be freshening up the team with the youth who will be champing at the bit.
-

Several of our chaps will become unhorsed at Becher's Brook. The cox will fall out at Hammersmith bridge and be drownded. JT will be banned for grimacing in an unsporting fashion. Kloppman will declare at 700/2.
Innings defeat.
-
Their thrashing by City means just pain for us. We need to leave Anfield on Sunday with our confidence not totally shattered.
-
4-0
-
I’m going for an optimistic 1-1 with us scoring first and holding on till late in the game just a thought
-
There's talk of Louie Barry being involved.
-
5-0 to them. I would guess at something like 20% possession to us. We'll just have to get this out of the way, take our medicine, and move on.
-
There's talk of Louie Barry being involved.
There was before lockdown, eg the cup final. Never happened. Can't see it personally.

He can't do any worse. Samatta and Davis are tripe.

Really good strikers turn a bad ball into a good ball as they work hard. We make so many excuses for our players. When Samatta has had chances, he's fluffed them, so have Davis.

One of those gritted teeth get it out of the way games where every minute is agony and Sky are wanking about the Scousers. 0-4 loss

Kevin Keegan stylee, I would love it if we went up there to stop this from happening, love it!
-
I wouldn't mind seeing Henry Jones Jnr in the game. I was really impressed with his press and energy.
-
Have there been quotes from Dean about Louie Barry ?
-
Klopp on SSN just now saying they are going for the points record and will play their strongest team every match, however due to the number of matches they may play some kids occasionally.

Fuck it. Throw them both in and match their system. Its not like we have more of a chance with AEG or Trez or Davis. Fuck it, roll the dice and be fearless.

Agreed - Steer for Nyland. Not like we stand a snowballs chance in hell of getting anything with the current 11. Nothing to lose - Go for it I say!
Youthful excuberance might give us the shot in the arm we desperately need.

Agree with this, although might have Elmo in, instead of Guilbert. With West Ham winning on Wednesday and having a seemingly easier run in, we have to try something completely left field. It’s time for smith to be brave. El Ghazi and Trez are not going to get us out of this,
Strongest part of nylands game is shot stopping and I imagine Liverpool having lots of shots
-
I honestly can’t recall a Villa game I have looked forward to less than this one.

Pull off a massive surprise and win please Villa, please.
-
I actually think we'll get something from the game.
Good luck with that. They haven't drawn or lost a league match at home all season. It's a nice fantasy though.
-
They hadn't lost one away until Watford twatted them.
-
They hadn't lost one away until Watford twatted them.
Not relevant.
-
I actually think we'll get something from the game .
At villa park we should have won.
Or at least had a point
I'm sure Smith has reminded the players of this and that we matched them
I was at the game so I know.
Now what with each clubs situation Villa need is greater and I see us getting a result .
Maybe not 3pts but don't think we'll lose this one.
Man Utd after is another story. But tomorrow an inspired performance can see us show the league what we re about.
I find your optimism inspiring. Thank you. By the way what do you smoke these days?
-
How isn't it? All runs come to an end.
-
Yup, often the week after we’ve played someone.
Just joking. Come on Villa please amaze us
-
Tomorrow irrespective of the final score what none of us should be saying is that we didn’t want to win more than them. They have nothing at all left to play for in the league outside if stats. We have way more to lose and gain. If it only comes down to us losing based on quality of players then so be it.
-
Konsa and Taylor as full backs? Its going to be a bad one.
-
If Dean Smith plays Konsa at RB with Guilbert and Elmo available then he’s an idiot and will deserve every bit of criticism that will come his way. Different if we play 3 CB system but that’s not what he’s done recently.
-
How isn't it? All runs come to an end.
True dat; in the long run, we are all dead.
-
You can now get 11/1 against us winning.
If I had a spare 5 grand knocking around I would book a holiday to Florida and go out with a bang.
-
Hope he plays young Barry with Davis, to press from the front, this game is just a free shot, nobody expects anything from it, beating Palace, West Ham, and a point With Everton are our aim, and that's not impossible
-
Reina Konsa Mings Hause Taylor McGinn Luiz Grealish El Ghazi Davis Trezeguet
Hopefully Mcginn is much improved.
-
The first eleven are all pissed and they have to play the kids.
-
Not sure what I would do with this one. It is a bit of a free shot as there is pretty much zero expectation of anything other than a Liverpool win. We could be bold and try something different, play some of the youngsters, which I wouldn’t be totally against. Or more likely, put out the strongest team available and gee them up as much as possible and just fkn go for it. We had them at 1-0 at VP with 2 mins to go. Whatever approach we take, I’d rather us throw everything at it and get thumped than meekly surrender for a 2-0. Just show some fight and bottle Villa, something we can take into the rest of the fixtures.

So we put out the same team that hasn’t shown much in the way of fight or bottle, and hope they suddenly show loads of fight and bottle?
This is free hit, no fans too. Give Vass and Barry a try for 60 minutes. Can it really be any worse than AEG of Trez, again?
-
This feels like a pivotal moment in our season. All of our relegation rivals did us a favour yesterday and now we have to capitalise on that. Even a point would be helpful but 3 would be dreamland. What a time to show that we're capable of coming away from the tough games with something. We're probably going to need a surprise results somewhere, so let's make it today.
-
Just told the better half that the TV is booked later "to watch a massacre".
She asked if the film 'Custer' was on again.
I told her "something very similar".
-
I think the manager, who values emotional control and has become a pragmatist as of late will be more than happy with a point given yesterday's results. A toxic mix that will unfold as a pretty ugly spectacle from our point of view, but may, just may yeild that positive single figure dividend.
2-0 loss.
-
If Barry plays, it's going to be from the bench, can't see Smith putting him on from the start.

Our relegation rivals have been doing us a favour for weeks, and we've never shown the remotest glimpse of taking advantage. The best we can hope for today is that the GD doesn't suffer too badly, but I think it will.
-
It’s about time we pulled off one of those unexpected, surprise results. We must be due one?

I’d go with that. It avoids the nightmare of Taylor against Liverpool and even though El Ghazi is pretty useless, he’s better than Trezeguet.
Don’t think it will happen though.

Jesus Christ, OK some of the Midlands doesn't exactly rival the Amalfi coast for scenery, but compared to Merseyside? I genuinely cannot think of a single nice area in Liverpool itself, which is why anybody with any sense lives outside in places like Cheshire, Southport or Formby.
And as for this one:
"After that pretty much a sad decline into a yo yo club their only saving grace being that they were marginally less shite than Birmingham City"
So two relegations in 40 years makes us a yo-yo club? Scouse twat.

This vote is basically a barometer for people who would go for Villa to win no matter the chance. We have a base 22%.
-
I still can't understand why supporters like theirs (and to a lesser case Newcastle's) haven't yet realised that, local rivalries aside, you can pay no bigger compliment to a club than to hate them.
-
They are slagging the Midlands off? A decent chunk of their fans come from the Midlands the dimwits.

I can partly understand the Newcastle thing because we really stuck the knife in, but what have we ever done to upset Liverpool?

I voted Villa win! Not likely but can never bring myself to vote against us.
Weirdly I have managed to convince myself we might scrape a win.

Except they don’t hate us. I lived there for over a decade. It’s a few bigmouths on a football forum. They actually don’t care about Aston Villa very much.

Won their cup once. And Newcastle are a classic example of not understanding - they thought it was just us without realising that everyone would have laughed at them and any other club of their size that was in trouble.

The question is what do you think will happen, not what do you hope will happen.
Can I be your bookie?

Just in case you wanted a reminder of what Liverpool fans are like. Note their pre-match thread is called 'Champions V Villa'.

I know that it must have come up earlier, but I can’t find any reference to it. Kickoff 4.30: Clap for NHS 5.00.
Is game going to stop?

Newcastle are humourless dimwits. Plenty mocked us on our way down- rightly so, we were terrible and the biggest club to have been relegated since football began. We took it on the chin.
Those Gerodie windbags proper got their knockers in a twist which made it funny when we sent them down a 2nd time. But bitter doesn't cover it.

I'm more amused by the tribalism of football as I get older. If we won the league, our match threads would start 'The Champions' or similar, you can guarantee it. You can definitely find some sticks to beat Liverpool fans with, but this isn't one of them.

VAR rules out Villa winning last kick of the game goal for not social distancing whilst celebrating!!
-
I'm ok with a respectable loss today - they are in a different planet, let alone league, than us currently. And it don't cost us relegation.
But I am looking for two things - desire (awareness of our position) and energy (they have not played for 8 days). If we see another lifeless, listless display, it tells us everything about the manager, his coaches, the players, and the club generally - and the wholesale changes required to even think about ever competing back in this league again

Legion or TV/PWS would on our match threads if we we had just won the league.

The second one was hilarious. They came to have a right good laugh at us, but found the Holte in party mood.
Then as a bonus, couldn’t beat us, despite the fact we barely mustered a cross, and then got relegated while Sunderland stayed up!
