I’m missing Guess The Crowd.

This OP is now an intro to a competition to Guess the Goal - the minute a goal has been scored, at all of the games during this mini season.

It’s either our goal or an unfriendly one but it’s still a goal. Teams say which minute of the match a goal will be scored, in advance of the match, like ooh, guessing the crowd in advance.

Scoring: spot on: 11 points.

Up to 1 minute away 10 points.

Up to 2 minutes 9 points.

Up to 3 minutes 8 points.

Up to 4 minutes 7 points

Up to 5 minutes 6 points

Up to 6 minutes 5 points

Up to 7 minutes 4 points

Up to 8 minutes 3 points

Up to 9 minutes 2 points

Entering the round 1 point 😁

Teams (players) entering a round just post a guess for a minute between 0 to 90.

E.g. 05. 13. 29. 34. 48. 57. 61. 72. 86. 90.

If you want to Guess for an extra time goal, it’s 45+ and 90+.

Scores depend on the minute a goal is published as being scored on the BBC. Like the crowd, in happier times. :D

If more than one goal is scored close to your minute, you get the points!

Rounds are launched up to a week before. Some overlaps, inevitably. To avoid these, I will use some very short run-ins, so be prepared! 8)

Results at the end of this mini season.

We could continue next season if it works, before regular crowds are allowed back.

Really Important Bit

Only one guess per round, per team!
Otherwise, arithmetical carnage will ensue.
No editing, as before.

Round 3 Newcastle v Villa is up and running in a separate thread, as usual.

Scoring will be in minutes, as there’s no way of determining seconds on the BBC Sport reports.

And I miss Guess The Crowd. This could be the nearest thing! Who knows how long this thing will last?

Assuming that a guess of 45 minutes earns points for any goal scored between the 36th and 54th minute, do guesses of 45+ and 90+ just cover time added on, with no points for anything scored up to 9 minutes earlier?

Likewise if you guess 45+ and nobody scores in the extra time after the first half, but there’s a goal either side of it within 9 minutes you will get the points.

90+ works as 1 minute but just for guesses made or goals scored from the 82nd minute, as needed.

I’m looking for ways to award points, so it’s whatever works! 👍

Guessing how many users are online when the game is on.

The information is there at the bottom of the the forum contents page.

Currently it says " Most Online Today: 787. Most Online Ever: 2349 (December 28, 2019, 05:40:19 PM)"

H & V attendances are about the same as a small National League side like Ebbsfleet or Boreham Wood.

46 teams entered.
38 guessed a minute in the first half.
Most popular minute was 28, with 4 teams on it.

I hoped we might get a last ditch effort, for the Villa obviously, in which case, CDBWF would have got the lot!

It could add a bit of tension if you had to choose a minute that hadn’t been taken yet.

Pros.
There’d be no piling up of players on individual minutes.
I think the record was 5 on one number, with quite a few 3s and doubles, so it would definitely affect the spread of guesses.

Cons
It would mean that you’d have to read through everything that had been guessed already, though.
You’d have to get in quick if you had a lucky number, as well!

Just idly considering it at the moment, any comments welcome before we start again next month! 👍 or 👎?

Maybe make it guess the first goal and guess the total number of goals as a tie-breaker, something like that?

I haven’t had a tie break in GTG yet, but you are probably way ahead of me.

I think I’ll keep it as it is for now, unless I have a brainwave before the first round! I’m thinking of, the nearest unclaimed minute....

The first match for the first team looks like being a Carabao Cup on or around the 12th or 15th September. Time, place, oppo all to be confirmed as we go to press.

Guess The Crowd is some way off yet.

BUT

Guess The Goal should be up and running again as soon as there’s a Villa match to Guess about!
