Where are we going for the celebration? Actually, on second thoughts, I might stay in.
-
Happy birthday to H&V!
I am though going to have a quiet night in to celebrate. No phone calls, messages or emails inviting me round please.

Do the first "threads" or topics as they may have been on Manilla, exist?

Lone gone, sadly.
-
How many people have been posting since the very beginning? The Ken Barlows and Ian Beales, if you will
-
I think I first started in 1998 or 1999 so a reasonably early adopter but certainly not the full 23 years. There must be a core of posters who've been here since the beginning?
-
For all the ups, downs and disagreements it's still a fuckin blast.
-
"Do you sleep with Prostitutes?" that episode will live long in the memory.
I remember posting on the manilla site. Risso was around then too. Pete Bland as well. Whatever happened to him?

I saw him at Wembley.

Happy Birthday H&V the best in the world.

Happy Birthday H&V the best in the world.
Hip hip, hooray! For he's a jolly good fellow
-
A celebration tinged with sadness given today's statement.
Think I joined in late 2000/early 2001. First Villa website I was on was run by a Danish guy, Christian something or other, whilst I was still getting the paper H&Vs by airmail.
-
I was there in the Manila days. Not sure exactly when, though.

Just before it broke.

Happy Birthday. Any interesting stats or random facts, like, how many people have been on/banned, how many arguments, how many punathons in the last 23 years. Any weddings?
-
Happy Birthday and thank you very much for the entertainment and much, much more.

Please, don't ever, ever mention weddings on here.

Sorry. So, so sorry.
-
Congrats great forum thanks for posting those HandVs To me when I was in the Benelux
-
Best site on the internet. Happy belated birthday!

I was mainly lurking in the Manilla days. Remember the likes of Mad Rob, Malcom Everall ant the VT exiles.
-
I spent a lot of time on the BBB site in those days, but I can't remember a lot of names these days. Great bunch of posters and some of them incredibly witty. Maybe a few are still around?
Malcolm Everall used to piss most people off, also the councillor guy? There was also the guy who took some of my money for a flag and ended up doing a runner? Another from those days was Red Robbo.
Whatever did happen to Mac?

We don't talk about what happened to Mac. It was all very distasteful.

Jay Forsyth. What a ******.

Councillor Swann. Vile man.

That's him. I remember him coming back on the site time and time again under various guises.

Fuck me! there is a name from the past. Had his own site and was obsessed with porn.

One of the many strange things about him was that wherever he was, and at times he was my very own cyber-stalker, whatever name he used, he always made it obvious who he was.

He changed so often I wasn't 100% sure if he was still here under a different name. Always thought he was funnier than he actually was. See also Glen Peen.

I used to enjoy his pieces in the paper H&V. My main memory from the early days here was Fletch, H&V's own anti-Woodrow Wyatt. :)

I was sworn off H&V in around 2005 by a friend who claimed to have had an argument with Dave Woodhall. I started browsing around 2008ish and quickly realised (for various reasons) that my friend was a twat and H&V is great.
All's well that ends well.

Could you narrow it down a bit?

Haha I'm not sure. He was a seller, briefly. His brother had a season ticket in the Upper Holte but was secretly converting into a nose (and a BNP member) so I used to use his ST quite regularly.
The only time I went along with him selling H&V, he was standing by the Holte/Witton corner. Didn't get much custom, kept being told things like, "sorry mate, I buy from a regular".

No idea who that might be.

No, I doubt he would've made much of an impression. About 16 at the time, and a twat. Hardly in short supply, generally speaking!

I joined Manila in about 2000 I think. The number of posters was very small, compared to now (dial up etc.).
I do remember that there was another H&V site (that featured the likes of Hawkesey) that was confusing. It was merged when Manila folded, from (probably faulty) memory.
-
Two different Heroes and Villains sites? It's bad enough now with those Villatalk splitters!

It was notably inferior to Manila!
P.S. H&V is my cyber home and always appreciated.

Yes that's right. A few from the other site I think were Nasty Lee, Mazrim, Hawkesey and others. Was never sure how the merger came about. It was a bit like being thrown together at a teenage party, but I thought they were mostly ok.
-
I think I first joined in 2009/2010 time. I was still a bit of an internet newbie/latecomer. I was Damo for a few weeks but then was unable to log in (due to my own incompetence probably) so had to reinvent myself as Damo70.
I still cock up quotes, struggle with posting links and have not got the first idea of how to post a picture.

I don't remember that but they were on here. Hawkesey was a Moderator, Mazrim was a short-arse and Nasty Lee still posts every now and then.

Not noticed the 'How to?' stickied thread in off-topic?
-
I don't remember Mazrim being on the BBB site. NastyLee and Hawkesey yes. I think Fletch also made his debut on the site too.
Someone mentioned earlier that they were surprised that there were two sites. Basically, the main manila site was very much along the lines of the discussion site on here (all things Villa. match threads, player rating, general villa threads etc) and The Biggest Billboard was more like 'Off-Topic' with a mixture of Villa related news.
-
Actually that is ringing bells now. As in I am remembering it as opposed to that McGrath-awful TBAR.
-
Mazrim was a good poster and it's a shame he no longer posts on here. I think I saw his name on TBAR a few years ago.
-
I first joined yonks ago, but rarely posted (maybe a dozen posts in total) and mainly lurked without logging in. Then a few mates were on that Rivals site so I joined and posted there. When that shut I couldn't remember any of my log in details on here so set up this account early in 2009. Pretty sure I also joined VT and VV around the Rivals time but didn't like either of them.
-

yeah, I liked Mazrim. Very no nonsence and a little bit angry.

I thought he came across as quite short in his posts.

Happy Birthday!
Been a member since 2007, I don't think the look and feel has changed since then?
If it's not broke :)
-
Belated happy birthday/anniversary to the wonderful H & V.
Just reading through this thread has reminded me of another couple of fan sites from the 2000's. Anyone remember the VBB forum which I think was run by Ian "Hammer" or The Collective which was run by Ian Galloway? If I remember correctly, both of them had forums for Villa & blues, while VBB also had a rather underused forum for baggies too.
Jeez, that's made me feel really old now.

Mazrim, I remember he threatened to throw someone down the stairs at Villa Park, still makes me laugh.

I'm old enough to remember your cakes :)
-
Mazrim and Mark Fletcher are missed. Very funny fellas. Can't remember if they left in a strop or they had better and busier lives than the rest of us.
And maybe time to bring Peter W in from the cold.

Mazrim is going strong on Villa Talk with 2,500 posts (and an excellent community reputation - not sure how that voting works over there?)

It's just 'likes' on posts.

That's a great point re the layout/look which is great. All the other football forums I've been on are a bit of a mess compared to H&V.

Ah...the joys of dial-up modems.
Around 2001, BT were still making you log off and log back on again every two hours.
I was normally in the office by 06:30 and was a regular email contributor to an over-night sports talk radio show in LA

Oh, so he must have stropped off here. Pity. His bruv posted in his wake for a while I think.
-
Just clocked that Mooney posts on VT.
-
I started buying H and V in 1990. I think my first issue was the end of season review edition. As for online i reckon it would have been about 2005 ish. I think. I couldnt imagine a day without visiting it at least half a dozen times.

I started off on the Collective, which I recall trundled on until about 2006, and was on the VBB for a bit, which I think was after the Collective, but did not really take off. My join date for here is 2005, but I remember the site crashing once, and we all had to re-sign, so I must have been on here a few years earlier.

Same, 99 for sure, but could have been 98.

I think Maz hopped it to TBAR, but unusually for hoppees, didn't come back to deliver vitriol.
Like his band Cudamantra, which suited his online persona perfectly.
