Title: Aston Villa vs Tottingham Pre-Match Thread - Sunday 16th 2pm
Post by: Toronto Villa on February 12, 2020, 08:17:27 PM
We have to take the game to Spurs. They blow hot and cold so we have a chance with the right attitude to get a positive result.

I'll go 2-1 to us - Ally and Jack

They have pace, which is a problem for us.
They are vulnerable at the back though.
I can see a few goals 2 2

When I was really young about 7 or 8 I vaguely remember liking spurs, when they got to cup finals with at Ardilles and Ricky Villa. That turned into a growing irrational or maybe rational absolute dislike for them for them as an adult.

They’ve always had an over inflated opinion of themselves and even now with their fancy new ground, there going through a relative golden period in their recent history and have still won f**k all.

Couple all of the above with the points and pyschological advantage a win would give us over our relegation rivals, I really hope with stuff this lot on Sunday.

I’m well up for it, bloody hope the players, an irrational 3-1 villa, Samatta hat trick. Boom.

It would also give such a boost to the team and fans if we can get all 3 points.
Need to make a lot of noise to help the team over the line.

Very nervous about this game. I know it is only one game, and not against a relegation rival. But I really believe if we win it we will stay up, and if we lose it we will be relegated.

I reckon a draw is on the cards. Not sure losing would be as catastrophic as you fear but I share your nerves.
I’m going 2-2

He won here in 14/15. Lambert was sacked 4 days later.

Only win here in six attempts across two spells at Chelsea.

I fancy us for a 2-1 win. The reality here is we're worrying over players like Son and Dele Alli (if he hasn't been banned) who may be pretty good players but they've scored two league away goals between them all season.

Leicester are a much better team than them this season and there's a reason they really struggle to win away games under two managers this season so we must go out on the pitch believing we can get a result. Hopefully that Leicester win is a turning point for our mentality in these types of games as we'll need to win two of them in the run in I think to be confident of staying up.

I think our home games are all very winnable as even if they are decent sides (like Spurs) they are unpredictable away and have poor performances in them.

We really need to start getting something from games like this now. D 2-2

Gone for a spuds win. Not even gonna attempt to predict the result. I reckon we’ll score, we won’t get hammered, but they’ll score more than us. Not based on stats, other than our relative league positions. We could be good for a point, at a stretch, but I reckon they’ll have too much for us.

Villa have faced 441 shots this season, more than any other Premier League side. Their record of 17.6 shots faced per game is their highest in a single campaign in the competition since such records were started in the 2003-04 season.

But there are 3 teams who have conceded more shots on target than us and we have had more shots on target than 10 other teams which isn’t quite as worrying. Conceding too many shots is certainly a worry though, hopefully we will improve and quickly.

Well the good news is Harry Kane is not available and Christian Eriksen has left Spurs. The not so good news is Son has scored in his last 4 games, under Jose, Dele Ali seems to have returned to form and Hugo Lloris has returned from injury. Don't know anything about their new signing, Steven Bergwijn, other than he is a Dutch international and scored a cracking goal on his debut against Man City.

As every time I tip us to win, we never do, so you'll be pleased to know I'm going for a 2-1 Spurs win.

There are currently issues on the Cross City line into New St from the south looks like no trains running at present. Hopefully be sorted by the morning but worth checking first thing.

The missus will be at the game. She has yet to see us lose.

She’s never been before, has she?

Her illustrious attendances include Daz Bent's debut, the 2-each at Swansea, and the stripeyfilth in the cup.

My wife has never seen us do anything but win. 8 games 8 wins, including our only win away in Europe proper since Celta Vigo in Prague.

Ads: "Fancy a romantic weekend away in November?"

Mrs Ads: "Sounds lovely. How thoughtful"

Naturally I only told her when we got there that the last day would involve standing around drinking all day and then watching the Villa. The next year I managed to combine an Edinburgh break with Sunderland in the cup.

No idea why she wants a divorce.

Come on Villa boys! We need to take advantage of playing at home today. With the results of relegation rivals going our way over the winter break, we need to be the ones who can start to open up meaningful gaps, starting today. With the Villa fans firmly behind the team let's get those 3 points! UTV!

We need to try and get the first goal if we can. I know coming from behind shows really good character but we can't keep doing it. I'll go for a 2-2 draw. Grealish and Samatta with ours.

Wind has dropped off but still frequent downpours in last few hours. Interesting Brookvale road area is closed off as a decent percentage of fans park round there so that will impact on things with reduced transport today.

Will just get a lift up to Star City and walk in from there I think.

We shouldn't be going into a game like this with a mindset that we need a 'leveller.'  It's Villa v Tottenham for goodness sake, not Carlisle v Barcelona.

In any case, generally speaking a slippery pitch and a strong wind would ordinarily be to the advantage of the more skilful team, who are able to play short, quick passes.  A strong wind would invariably be of little advantage to a team that might want to kick it long anyway.

Drinkwater in for Marvelous.

My optimism has taken a hit after that, Spurs more likely to score a couple now. Let's hope Jack can get enough of the ball in the final third as I can certainly see Mourinho putting two on him in key areas.
