I've decided that the regular digital H&V will be ending at the end of the season. This is due to a few things but mainly because it’s been taking up far too much of my time for far too long now. Iif you have an annual subscription, please contact Exact Editions about refunds.
What we’re probably going to be doing from now on is putting more on the website regularly. There’ll also be a couple of bumper paper editions of new stuff at the beginning and the end of the season, which means there’s less chance of us getting wet. More pages, more colour and it’ll be three quid a time, which by my reckoning is our first price rise for ten years.
Message ends.

Sad to hear this Dave but can completely understand your decision.
Thanks for all your efforts over the years (and all the sellers and contributors) for providing me with half time reading material!
-
Sad times.
When I was a young Villa fan, about 7 or 8, my dad got me a subscription to Shoot. First edition, there was a poster of Ruud Gullit (AC Milan era) with the title "Hero & Villain". Next Villa game, I noticed H&V on sale and pestered my dad to buy it, thinking it'd be full of posters of foreign players. I was disappointed to find out it wasn't, but my dad bought it religiously whilst we had a season ticket (1991-00), and every time we've been to a game since then. It long outlasted the official programme, which was abandoned as soon as they stopped doing Villa vouchers!
Thanks for the memories, H&V and the Villa are intrinsically linked in my mind :)

Anything over the Winterval period, Dave, or just at the start and end?
-
Understandable and i'm glad the retro paper version for us oldies will still make an appearance.
-
Fair play. I'll buy the paper versions and hope they'll be a big success 👍🏿

Just the two.
-
Will be missed. An institution. Like a live theatre in a town. You wish you visited it more. You know you should have.
-
I tell you what, how bloody good has Heroes and Villains been down the years? We've got loads of them in my old mans loft. When we meet up and reminisce and get sentimental about past times, together, down the Villa, it all always gets a mention.
A big thanks to all who created it, wrote articles, helped sell it and all the other jobs involved. You helped make it a Villa matchday institution for a lot of people.
Cheers!
-
I must admit I always buy the paper version but never infiltrated the digital copy.
-
I go as far back as issue 2, it's been a long ride Dave, both as a buyer and for a few years as a seller

It's not finished yet. There'll still be a couple a year hitting the streets.
-
Well, as a former contributor, I really hope it rocks on for a few more years yet!
Cheers, Dave, for the journey so far
-
Sad news Dave but totally understandable. As much as I enjoyed the digital version I returned to the "hard copy version" after a couple of seasons, as it was much more user friendly, when taking my "morning constitutional"
Two issues a year is better than nothing for such an important Villa institution, so please keep up the great work as it's much appreciated

Are there still any regular Club fanzines still being published in printed form?

Are there still any regular Club fanzines still being published in printed form?
There's a few. King of the Kippax was being sold at Villa last month.
-
H&V has provided me with many hours of entertainment and insight, be it at half time in the ground or on a Monday morning sat in trap 2 at work. Interestingly I always preferred it when we were doing shit and people were angry.
I have every single issue in a box at home, including the holte's last stand, all the compilations and printed versions of the digital issues (yes I know, but I wanted to carry on the collection).
Thanks for all your fine work Dave, and all the match day sellers, I guess there's only so many times you can be asked 'is this the programme?' before it starts to grate a little, right?
-
You get used to it.

You can't argue with that.

Thanks to all contributors and to Dave for editing for what has been a go to read over the years on matchday.
I'd love to see a book of the last 30 odd years!
-
One of the highlights of going to the game was buying the Heroes and Villains and reading the letters page. Always a cracking read thanks Dave
-
I was 17 when H & V no.1 went on sale so has been with me for my pretty much my entire 'adult' life (I've never claimed to have grown up entirely) and I am glad it will still be around on some form either as articles on a website or in a printed magazine. Thanks to Dave for keeping it going in some way or another. Who else would publish the rubbish I write?!
-
Massive thanks to Dave and all those who have contributed over the years.
The paper version sat next to the throne so was a guaranteed, usually overlong read.....loved it, still buy the occasionals and pass them on to my Godson's 16 year old who is now a regular at VP.
Always loved it and will continue to do so!
Keep up the good work Dave!
-
Thank you, Dave. What a labour of love and a fantastic achievement over the years.
My Dad liked H&V and getting the digital and paper versions have been like a link with him. I really enjoyed reading the articles.
I don’t think I’m alone in having an emotional association with the magazine and i’m so pleased there will still be some editions to read in future.
UTV!

A Heroes and Villains bumper, ''the best of...'', I'd pay good money to buy a hardback one of those.
-
Thanks for everything lads, for a while back in the day it was the only way I got to find out the true feelings of Villa fans up here in Carlisle.
P.S. Will you be updating your Villa manager book Dave? O'Leary to Smith sounds good

Every time I think about it the title changes.

Quite a few managers there!
-
A digital archive of H&V would be great, I'd pay a GM premium for access to that.
-
Thanks for the platform and the part-time job mate. I wish we’d have pushed the music reviews idea more, as I probably would have chronicled the rise of the B-town bands and been on the road with Peace by now. And thanks to all the lovely customers I met since I started selling in 1990.
Jesus, thirty years!

I'd love to see a compendium of the H&V Greatest Hits, that photo of the cover of issue 2 took me right back.

My lad found an old copy the other day, with the European Cup team and the headline "It was twenty years ago today..".
We've only got two years before that's 20 years old.

Sad times. H&V both the site and the fanzine, as a reader and a seller has been a really important part of my life at key times. I am 37 now, and while I can't pretend standing in the cold selling was amazing fun, meeting people, talking about the villa and having it as part of the match day ritual was brilliant. It also introduced me to Dave, who is brilliant. Hope it keeps going for a few years yet. The youth don't know what they are missing.
-
H&V reminds me of getting older. In my younger days of following Villa home and away in the nineties with my group of mates I was always out on a Saturday night so never read it until the Sunday. In more recent years going to home games only with my son I always read it in the bath after returning from Villa Park on a Saturday evening.

i said that to Percy once, with a straight face and thought for a second I was getting a clump!
