Found this and thought it was quite interesting, scroll down the page a bit to see the live graphic.

Great presentation of the results.
5th all time ... somewhat dependant on our early-history dominance, but nicely reassuring.
The club should use that as a recruitment tool and a motivator for the squad.
Thx for sharing, PWS.

So all good until Doug turned up?

Kind of makes me sad to see us now.
Aston Villa need to become great again!
-
Great graphic, I hope the owners see this and it motivates them even more to bring us right back up to at least 5th once again.

Be interesting to see it adjusted for 3 points for a win.

It has been.
Note: for seasons prior to 1981-82 we converted the totals to 3 points for a win.

Surprised to see Everton up there and for so long. Never knew they were so successful other than staying up.

“Most seasons in top flight overall: 116 seasons, Everton.“

Who would be our equivalents in other countries? Very successful back in the day then overhauled by lesser clubs and now a surprise to newbies when they find out we’re more than a deluxe Burnley. I’d go for Genoa in Italy and Athletic Bilbao in Spain.

Great find, PWS.
A world of wonderment for we stats-heads.

Scotland:

Germany:

The German one doesn't really work well as they only abandoned regional leagues in the sixties, and the figures don't include East Germany.
Still, purely based on our current position of fifth in the all-time table, the foreign versions of Villa would be Valencia, Fiorentina, Lyon, Hibs and Stuttgart.
In terms of being really good back in the day but overhauled lately, maybe Bilbao, Bologna or Torino, Saint Etienne, Hearts or Hibs and Schalke would be a good fit for us.

Just the 5,000 odd points until we leapfrog United again then.
Get to it, boys.

500, not 5,000. Piece of piss.
