So far, Smith has been taking all of the flack, but as a former England defender and Premier League captain, why is Terry not getting any grief.
All I ever see of him are instagram posts of trips abroad/mini skiing holidays when he should be coaching the hell out of the team?!
He shouldn't be allowed to get away with this scot free. Sick of the Chelsea love in, and you’ve got to question if he’s taking us for a ride... cos he’s certainly having zero impact on the training pitch and in the dressing room.
-
Terry has zero track record as a coach.
-
Obviously not a lot!
-
Always happens when the shit hits the fan blame the assistants.
With that midfield in front of that back 4 with Target.
Yeh let’s blame Terry.

I’m not blaming him solely, I’m just saying he’s not blameless in all this.
And honest question, what DOES he do?
Yes, our midfield is fragile as hell, but surely a defensive coach’s buck doesn't end specifically with defenders? Teams defend as a unit. Our team doesn’t have a fucking clue! In fact, they’re getting worse.

How the fuck do I know, but the manager is changing the midfield every week but keeping the same system.
Add to that we don’t hold the ball in attack and keep giving the ball away.
I am not saying he is totally blameless but the Manager is responsible for selection formation and tactics.
-
I sit behind the dug outs and he was giving one of the ball boys some instruction or other today, and then Saints scored their 2nd seconds after!
-
I'd just like to point out that Dean Smith is the Head Coach, the buck therefore lies with him.
-
He’s been here a while now and there’s no real sign that the defence has been properly coached. Mings hasn’t really improved beyond what you’d expect as he’s got more games under his belt. So yeah I think this is a valid question.

The minute Tyrone came back from his first England camp, it started to go backwards. He'd been absolutely imperious for us all the way up until that point. Then sloppiness, complacency and a mistake a game.
I don't think you can pin that on JT.

Terry seems to be great at Instagram and not a lot else.

Not as good at Insta as you though Jon 😉
-
I guess my point was none of our centre halves have really improved under the tutelage of Terry. I think we’ve bought well in that area and in Mings we just bought a quality asset who’d been unlucky with injuries beforehand.

Well obvs.

"What does John Terry actually DO?!"
This seems to be an emotive creation of a thread because we're on a bad run. What did John Terry "actually DO" when we won 10 on the bounce last season?
-
You could legitimately ask similar of O'Kelly. There was an article online today about what the pre-match training routine is - Terry takes defence, O'Kelly the forwards. Neither seem particularly solid at the moment, but as somebody said, Smith is the head coach and presumably during training it all seems fine. I don't think it's necessarily what the coaches do but how they react - every coaching setup in the league has a plan, but that can't always be successful once the game starts. Wasn't it Tyson who said everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face?

Didn't Mings say at some point last season he was improving as a defender through his one on one work with Terry? So that's one example.

I certainly don't advocate Smith leaving anytime soon and only seeing Deano doing food things in time.
However I can see JT being the next coach if some major major slump occurred and position became untenable.
Sometimes I have a feeling he's like Boris Johnson waiting to seize opportunity to be PM .
I'm for Smith but thing with Terry around what are his intentions ?
His character strikes me as somebody who's nobodys assistant.
Must be very interesting dynamics the 3 of Kelly,Terry and Smith.
-
Agreed.

Can’t see it myself, Terry owes Villa nothing, as soon as this season’s over he’ll be off to Chelsea, if not sooner if Smith gets the push.

I ... only see[ing] Deano doing food things in time.
I'd certainly like to see him batter some Canaries.

Is Deano impersonating delia smith at weekends?

I' m sure he will do better than a food bank when he gets the bullet.

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask why, when we've spent over £60m on a new defence, and we've got one of Englan's best defenders of the last 20 years as a coach, are we conceding two goals a game?

I'll answer that one Mart.........its beause we are shit :)
We were totally unprepared for the step up and the calibre of players recruited isn't up to the challenge ...... My biggest gripe is that neither head coach nor his team seem able to motivate the players ....as for the fitness levels ....not impressed.
-
Do you see any positives Clive?

I think you answered this when you pointed out his changing the midfield every week.
I think therein lies the problem and not sure what coaching can do about the porosity of the midfield 3 he insists on.

One of our biggest problems from the beginning of the season, not just the last few games, is the total lack of protection or cover for our back four. Neither Luiz not Nakamba have looked competent in that role, the ball passes them by as often as not (which the negates the whole purpose of even trying to fill the role).

The lack of top flight coaching experience at the club is pretty stark. Dean Smith hasn't coached at this level before, and neither have O'Kelly, Terry or Cutler.

John Terry is to play in the charities together FIFA 20 tournament raising money for NHS.
Up against other sports stars and celebrities
Starts next week
Now let's wonder if he's much of a FIFA gamer

Can't wait!
-
We're getting relegated at this rate!
-
His defence won't be up to the task.
-
I would imagine that with all his caps and medals and being a young coach that the players can remember as a successful player players would respect him and identify with him. Coaches and assistants are hard to judge because nobody outside the club actually knows exactly what they do and how well or otherwise they do it. There is a big difference in the profile and perceptions of a manager and a coach. Managers get a lot of credit in the good spells and a lot of criticism in the bad spells. The assistants/coaches tend not to get any credit in the good times but also mostly avoid the majority of the criticism in the bad times.

I wonder which Team he is playing as. Odds on it is Chelsea.
And for anyone who is a muppet or have Adblocker. It is being advertised in the banners on this very site. Starts Mon27 with him against Ben Stokes.
