Kind of dreading this one, if we have a below par performance against a group of kids, it'll be a real kick in the nuts before the weekend.

Huff and puff to 90+3 (30 secs before extra time) and el Ghazi bundles one in with a diving header that goes in off his back, from a corner.

This is the perfect game to get Chester back into the team, it's a lose lose situation for us, we will be expected to win and well. I'd go with the players who won't be in the team for our biggest game of the season on Saturday.
Nyland
Elmo Chester Konsa Taylor
Luiz
Jota Hourihane Lansbury Trezeguet

Subs:

Very. I think only the goalie from their starting 11 will be playing against us, and possibly Brewster if he recovers from a knock.

Edit: Looking it up and Sepp van den Berg, Ki-Jana Hoever and Harvey Elliott may play against us and then fly out to Qatar.

We will be able to rest McGinn and Jack at least and maybe try some different tactics as  to be honest I dont see this game as very high priority, other than to get through unscathed and have a bit of confidence, as we really need to beat Southampton on Saturday. (yep, thats stating the bleeding obvious  ::))

That said, it'll be 1-0, but not sure who to.

Prices have been reduced for ST holders and those of us that have already purchased will get a food/drink voucher

Quote
Aston Villa is delighted to announce an exclusive offer to Season Ticket Holders for our Carabao Cup quarter final tie with Liverpool at Villa Park on Tuesday December 17th.

For a 72-hour period, Season Ticket Holders who have not secured a seat for the game can purchase a ticket for any part of the stadium for just 20 per adult, subject to availability.

As a gesture of goodwill to those Season Ticket Holders who have already bought at the previously arranged prices, they will receive a 10 concourse catering refreshment voucher to be redeemed at any of the remaining matches at Villa Park this season.

The decision to modify prices for Season Ticket Holders comes after Liverpool FC have made clear their intentions in the competition.

Our twin priorities are to fill Villa Park for this game and offer our most loyal supporters our Season Ticket Holders - the best possible value. We hope Season Ticket Holders who have already bought their match tickets for the game understand that the decision to modify prices is not taken lightly and has been made due to the unique nature of this fixture.

Season Ticket Holders who have not yet bought a seat for the game should contact the club in the normal manner. Those Season Ticket Holders who have already purchased their ticket for the game will receive their refreshment voucher, which can be used to buy any food or drink within the stadium, by post this month.

Usually delusionally optimistic, but think this ones a hiding to nothing. Our second string struggled to beat wolves kids, which doesnt necessarily bode well for this. I think if smith makes too many changes we might be open to an upset. I for one want to get to a semi final of one of the major domestic cups, no matter what the league form. I would play a strong team for 60 odd minutes to try and get a decent lead and like others have said perhaps a confidence boosting goal for Wesley. Saying that I think McGinn has lent played well since last liverpool game so I would leave him out for a rest and I would play grealish

McGinn is to be rested had been playing with an injury and has been having painkilling injections and not taking a full part in training sessions.

We all know now why he's not that same player we love.

This is the proverbial banana skin game of all proverbial banana skin games. Some of our players need to play themselves back into form so Id play as strong team as possible but rest a few obvious players such as SJM and Jack (probably still have him on the bench though). Wesley needs to play...if he cant score against these then fuck knows when he will do, and I doubt him playing tonight will affect his performance against Southampton.

Took the words I was going to type there KRS- massive potential banana skin for us this one. We should win it, should... but we just seem to make very hard work of what on paper, should be straightforward games. Im backing us to win it inside the 90 as the bookies have Liverpool 7-1. But you just never know in situations like this with Villa!

If we were playing Liverpool's first team tonight then I wouldn't care if we lost, as we're playing their kids though we have to win to avoid embarrassment. To win this trophy we're probably going to have to beat Man City along the way and that isn't going to happen. They'd destroy us over two legs, as would Leicester.

I think this could be a big score like a 5-10 goals . Their under 23 haven't won in December and lost 4-0 last time they played away on 6th December

Recent form no win in last 3 matches for Liverpool under 23 team.
December form:
1-1 away at Huddersfield
1-1 failing to beat Chelsea under 23 playing against 10 men for last 20 mins

And their last away match was 4-0 loss to spurs on 6th December.

These 'wonder kids' have a -8 goal difference sitting unremarkably in  7th out of 12th.
The only wonder there is will be wondering how many ever play regularly at premier league level (for ant club let alone Liverpool or Villa)

Quite frankly for some of these Liverpool players tonight this will be the biggest match they will ever get to play and biggest stage.

The only upset will be these kids

I'll take 6-1 and 6-0 at 50/1
I hoping 9-0 just to make those Scouse weep.

Having done my research maybe you'll disagree on how it's a banana skin.
I can also add that under 23 players against professional premier league players is a non contest as far as I'm concerned.
This Liverpool team 11 days ago lost 4-0 away from home.
Some of the individual players are hoping to put in a good performance but the rest at this stage in their career aren't able physically and ability to keep up

Villa can just steam roll them
Wait and see there's a major difference at these levels and for a whole team to be ready to beat a premier league or even championship team they have to be special. That Liverpool team isn't and their under 23 league performance shows. Just average

Well let's just see shall we.
This is professional sport and those  are inexperienced kids playing premier league footballers . They lost 4-0 last time they played away from home.
I don't know football and getting it all wrong if villa don't win by a comfortable margin.
I like to think Dean Smith has told them if get close and get to 8-1 then break the villa league cup record
And Dean wouldn't want to pass up opportunity to get to semi of cup.
But I take your point no complacency!

Let's go and punish them !!
