Saturday 14 December 3.00PM
Bramall Lane, Sheffield.
The Villa visit one of the great English football clubs this Saturday coming and one of our big rivals in the early years. The club that coined the name United as they were the first United in English football. It is befitting that this match is on a Saturday and kick off is at 3.00.

D 1-1.
-
Have a feeling we'll win.
Not sure why, or how, but I just 'reckon' they'll have an off day and we'll win 2-0.
UTV.
-
I would take a draw right now. 1-1
-
'United'. I almost came on ranting. Very good.
-
They will be right in our faces from the very first minute but theres more to them than physicality and I think they will outfight and outplay us. 3-1 to them.
-
Some games you can guess the probability of the outcome but to me a win, loss or draw would not be a massive surprise.
-
6-6

I'm sure there must be an alternative potential outcome.

I'd be very surprised if it wasn't one of those outcomes.
-
I'm going for a 2-1 Villa win.

Either team could win this or it might be a draw.

This is my main concern as well that we won't cope with the physicality they will bring.

We got stuffed here last season and it could have been 6 or 7. We mugged them off with the comeback at our place but they absolutely murdered us for the first 80 minutes. I’m travelling in hope rather than expectation and a repeat of the Snodgrass 90th minute curler would be much appreciated.
1-1.
-
3-1 them.
-
Wesley to start
Overrun in midfield
We miss sitter in first half
They score first half
2-0 by 65th minute
Final result - 2-1 Blades if they've declared or 3-0 in the 90th minute.
Hello relegation battle old friend, long time no see!

Hello relegation battle old friend, long time no see!
This. But I reckon a scoreline of 3.1 or 4.1 to them. Can’t see us winning or changing the system.
-
3-1 them.
There's more chance of me seeing a unicorn than there is of us losing.

If we want to stay in the league, this is a game we should be winning, minimum of a draw though.
-
Didn’t make the away game last season when they hammered us, but they were by far the best side I saw down the villa last season. Played us off the park from the first minute to er the 80 something. For the first time in my life I left early as there were blokes squaring up to each other next to us in the holte and losing their heads and my 8 year old as he was then was nervous and wanted to go. That was at 0-3, it was 3-3 by the time we got back to the car 😂😖
There a good team and have adapted to premier league life better than us and result that is not a defeat would be really positive. Saying all that their away record is better than there home record I think, so we live in hope. Our big players need to turn up. Might be a risk but I’d be tempted to play Hause with Engels at the back. Wes will probs play I guess

Match abandoned.
Season abandoned due to outbreak of war.

0-0

Not hopeful, 2-0.
-
They are as nervous and unsure as us.
They lost to Newcastle, they went behind to Norwich.
We can do this. We need to.

We won't
-
We might.
-
We could.
-
We should.
These are indeed the games we need to be taking something from, I really hope we do but right now we just seem so flat.
-
Would take losing this, if we win the 3 matches after it. Deal?
-
Get 'Sheffield United' done.
Well, it worked for somebody else.
;)
-

I bet we would make that deal then Villa would only stick to the first bit.
-
Tough game against a hard-working, disciplined, well organised team. I like Chris Wilder too. 2-0 to Sheff Utd.
-
As well as they've played this season, they've only won 1 more game than us, going for 1-1 draw.
-
Take a 1-1.
-
Nope. Another poor performance and heavy defeat I’m afraid.
-

Would prefer at least a draw and then winning the next three!! Want to see us a lot tighter tomorrow and not so open, particularly in midfield.
-
I've got time for both Sheffield clubs. United are flying currently, it'll be a tough game but Villa have generally pleasantly surprised me in many games this year. A Villa win, why not.
-
I think they'll be physically too strong for us.
-
I'd take a draw, then 9 points from the next three games.
-
I didn’t see it but in his press conference did Dean say anything new or about trying something different tomorrow? Because persevering with the same approach tomorrow especially up front will likely lead to a defeat. I would hope also Hause comes in for Mings alongside Engels.

-
The idea that you can play on with a hamstring Pull is ludicrous.
Extremely poor decision making.
-
Lose 3-1 before we go on a winning run over Christmas.
-
Cheers. So as usual not one question on tactics/strategy. Not one question whether Dean ever looks at what he does or reflects on his decisions? I get the players have to execute on the game plan but what about the manager during the game? How does he adapt? Subs/players/position I find this season we act too late or not at all and we’ve been really hurt by an inability to see things coming or adjust to see games out.
-
Leicester exploited our biggest weakness last week, offering chances with stupid mistakes. They have the forwards to punish you. Sheffield Utd are the type to exploit the 2nd weakness, not lasting the 90 mins. They’ll do nothing special but press and get in our faces. It’ll be too much for us as the game wares on.
2-0 them with both goals in the last 15 mins.
-
I can’t help thinking there is something sisyphean about Dean Smiths game management.
Expect nothing from tomorrow.
-
Not wishing to have green eyed envy at Sheffield but they’ve done well and will probably have the better of us. We’ll have the last laugh in a year when they’re relegated. Irony.
-

I had to look up “sisyphean” and at the present rate of change, I agree, except that it’s “today” now.
-
First away game of the season today (we've been slacking). The only other kind of away we've done was watching the Norwich game in Dublin so if we win or get a similar result, you can all thank me later. I reckon it'll be 2-2 though. Wesley and Tresequet for us.

Dean is more Halcyon with a large dollop of Atropos.
-
I think this is going to be very difficult.
-
Come on the Villa boys! I'm going to side step the obvious difficulty level of this game to suggest that we need to go on an undefeated sequence of games starting today. With the fixtures we have especially after today I would hope we could go on a winning run into the new year. I'd certainly take a draw against Sheff Utd. I'd start with Engels, Guilbert and Hause in the absence of Mings. I'd also start maybe controversially with Kodjia. We don't know if this guy is premier class because he's not really played there, but he is capable of scoring international goals, so deserves the opportunity. If he does well his Villa future maybe secured or he will find a willing buyer in Jan. If he doesn't we'll find out soon enough. Wes off the bench may suit him better at the mo to help rebuild his confidence, which I have seen is slipping away. As for the midfield, it will be interesting to see who is selected. UTV!!

This is what I come on here for...keep it up lads.
-
Who knows??, one thing is for sure we need to start racking up the points, fast approaching the half way stage with 15 points on the board, its just not good enough to stay up, this is going to be a very difficult game, I would be happy with a point, elated to get 3 points.

Didn’t Sisyphus have a large dollop of Atropos?

The main cause of our struggles is very simple. We had to change most of the squad and there is very little premiership experience in the squad. They will improve over the season and I hope that January brings in two or three new faces-at least one with a proven record of goal scoring. happy to give players time, but we still need to mix it up as our tactics are still predictable. Not that I would have Bruce ball back, mind.
-
Have a score on the villa at 7/2. My plan is at about 60 mins we will be winning or drawing so I can cah out and make a profit before it all goes tits up. Has worked well a few times this season.
-
Kodjia and Davis are both fit but I don't need to see the team sheet at 2PM to know that none of them will be starting.
1-1.
-
3-1 them.
There's more chance of me seeing a unicorn than there is of us losing.

Is that Stephen Ireland?

It's nippy and I'm not confident.
But we live in hope.
