Title: Villa v Leicester pre-match thread
Post by: dave.woodhall on December 05, 2019, 06:54:28 PM
I know itís good to see a little club doing well, breaking up the monopoly that the TV favourites have had for too long, breath of fresh air and all that. But why, God, did it have to be Leicester? Not so much a city as the set of a zombie apocalypse b-movie, Leicester is responsible for the largest collection of mutants, throwbacks and genetic deformities football has ever witnessed. And if you donít believe me, have a look down Witton Lane half an hour before the match. Theyíve got a manager we were linked with and who might have done a decent job, a Big Name England international striker complete with Big Name England wife, the lad of our old keeper in goal and Marc Albrighton. Heís done well for himself. And all their success started when Tim Sherwood made a balls of going two-nil up against them in 2015. In a parallel universe weíve been in the Champions League for the past four years and theyíre halfway up the Championship.

Thereís no reason why we canít get at least a point from this match. Theyíre no better than teams weíve played already and itís about time we got the run of the ball for ninety minutes. In fact, thereís no reason why we canít get three points.

Things newfooty fans wonít know Ė What Leicester City are, were and would have been before 2016. They didnít miss much. If you want to find out, watch a Hammer Horror.

They seem to love VAR. It's even named after their star player. That worries me.

Leicester to win two-one after at least two hugely dubious decisions. Trez to score, again.

I like Leicester, ever since I was at university there and then worked for the city council for 4 years.  I fancy us to get a draw on Sunday, if no reason other than their winning run has to come to an end some time soon, and as they didn't win their last two games (at home v Everton and at home v Watford) in entirely convincing fashion they may well be willing to settle for one point on Sunday as a good result in the scheme of things.

I was there the day we shocked them 5-0 at their place.  I was also there when we drew 4-4 at ours.  I'd be happy with either scoreline. Avoid defeat please.

I hadn't realised they'd won seven in a row until earlier, and that Vardy had scored in all of them.

Really tough game. I'd take a point now.

Remember not so long ago we used to get depressed seeing Taylor (amongst a couple others) on the teamsheet. Well I am starting to get that feeling with Wesley....but when Kodjia is the only other option what can you do!

Leicester have gotta slip up soon I think they are feeling the heat and been very fortunate with the last few wins, we can sneak it 2-1 if we are on our game.....'if' being the key word though.

Thinking back to the away game in Sep 2016, you could say that was the one game which shaped both clubs seasons.

We were 2-0 up through Grealish and Gil, then imploded and lost 3-2. We continued that form, dropping down to the Championship with not so much as a whimper, whilst they went on to win the league, when all the other clubs were trying their hardest to lose it!

You could say that we owe them one... but personally, I can't see it happening. Us 0-3 Them.

Leicester are the Susan Boyle of football. Permanently ignored then one day shock the world and everybody feels delighted for them. A few months later they're all but forgotten again. This run they're currently on is same as Susan Boyle's Greatest Hits release just before Christmas. Only this time not many people are buying it.

I'm treating my Uncle Jimmy (don't laugh) to Matchday Hospitality  for this one, coming over from Iceland so hoping we can get something from this game.

The last time he was over was a 0-0 draw against Sunderland, I'm hoping for goals! He's still a bit gutted Birkir  is no longer with us

Prediction 1-1
Wesley and Vardy

I think this might be the hardest game this season. I want us to win. But I donít see how. Liverpool aside Leicester have been the most consistent, efficient and effective side in the league this season. Just solid everywhere in the side. Vardy is the perfect lone striker and he has great help in midfield and out wide. This wonít be easy at all.

Are they a particularly dirty side this season? Just wondering whether they are likely to be kicking lumps out of Grealish.

I think we may be a bit flat after the defeat on Weds and a few of the players a bit tired. But if we get a bit of luck and an early goal, you never know. Think another loss may be on the cards though, sadly. Wouldnít be too upset losing by a low margin.

Iím going 2-1 to Leicester.

We are more resilient at home and with a big crowd behind them the team will respond. It will be interesting to see any changes Smith may make as I thought a couple of players looked very tired against Chelsea going for glass half full 2-2.

I think we'll get turned over good and proper.  We are just way too sloppy at the back and they have players that only need 1 chance. And we'll present them with chances.

0-3 and a lot of panic posts on here.

If we play like we did against Wolves and Chelsea then another defeat is on the cards. We simply canít afford to have so many players playing below par, and they need raise their game to get a result. Unfortunately I think theyíll dominate midfield and expose us at the back, so Iíd happily take a point now.

Villa win, based on nothing but blind loyalty. I'm sure we'll give them a game, create a few chances, have a few balls-ups at the back, etc. We're due a win, so why not.

Leicester beat us at home in my first ever Villa game, so I always have a little extra hope that we will beat them. After that I generally wish them well.

Looking forward to what should be a good game. Engels and Guilbert back in, please. Nakamba and Luiz to start, Hourihane prowling the touchline like a caged panther til midway through the second half. Mings reduces his 'potentially fatal mistakes per game' count by 1. Neither fullback picks up a booking.
3-2, Wes, Engels, McGinn for us, Smith and Lynex for Lesta.

They just keep on coming.

This will be a tricky test, especially if we go for it. Nakamba needs to come back in for this, along with Guilbert and Engels.

Can't decide whether Taylor or Targett should be in on the left either, so I'll go with Taylor.

I'd consider leaving SJM out for a rest,i worry he'll get injured if he keeps playing, and he's been off the pace recently.

Though that's a lot of change.

I firmly believe in sequences and 7 straight wins is something else but will come to an end sooner rather than later. Full house and a swashbuckling, high paced display from us will halt it, hopefully with a win but perhaps a draw.

Worrying times.

Worrying? Why?

Football's all about eras. Leicester have had their troubled times historically just like any other club, are now enjoying a bright few years and fair play to them. What we'd give to be in their position and feeling what their fans have felt.

We've had great eras and troubled eras ourselves, and who's to say our next positive era isn't starting right now? We just don't know of course, but it's certainly not worrying that Leicester are just the better team at the moment, it's just a simple fact.

How about asking Dean about his own tactical decisions, using subs, rotation e.g why Kodjia, Hause not being used, changing it up if Wesley is not scoring, same formations? etc. Itís always mundane shit like isnít Jack playing well or VAR.

You do realise that the 'clips' of AVFC press conference videos shared on AVFC channels are by AVFC internals? As soon as non AVFC journos ask questions the Club disconnect the live stream or clearly don't add their lines of questioning to the footage.

AVFC shared press confs are sterile, propaganda.

If I ever had the`pleasure`of bumping into Peter Shilton I would ask him his thoughts on injustices and cheating during his career. Never mind the Hand of God, what about his hands sneakily wiping the muddy ball mark off the stanchion during the pandemonium at the other end when Keith Weller put the ball in the net 30 seconds later.

Just read a comment by Chris Waddle in today's racing post in which he said we are a number 9 away from being a very good side.

I'd have to disagree slightly with him there.  I think a quality striker who could hold the ball up and bring others in to play would definitely improve us, but I think there would be another couple of upgrades needed before we would become a "very good" side.

I think we would need another quality winger, we would need Luiz to become the kind of central midfielder he has shown flashes of becoming or add another option in that area and potentially strengthen the full-back areas to take that next step as a side.

They are a very good side at the moment and look like the only side that come near to challenging Liverpool, and fair fucks to them, no probs with Leicester at all.....Rodgers on the other hand, smarmy, white toothed David Brent Git 😬

Bearing in mind with some how scrapped a draw at home to them as we were heading down with a shit team and they were heading towards the league title....so strange things can happen.

They should win tomorrow, but I have a feeling this could be a classic and possible season defining win for villa, 3-2, AEG, Jack, Luiz

If we score first think we'll get at least a draw here.

Important we don't concede first as Leicester obviously on their best run since the 60s and they are lethal on the counter attack.

That said they only just beat Everton last weekend and were 0-0 at home to Watford up to 60th minute so to me it's not the sort of game which can quickly run away from you like when you play Man. City or Liverpool.

We'll be competitive as we've been in vast majority of games. I think 1-1.

Well we need something out of this, we can't keep writing games off as ''ooo that's a tough one, they're a good team'' it hasn't stopped a string a results against so called big 6 sides for other teams down the bottom, we need a win of our own and we need a striker to turn up for the game and actually threaten the oppositions defense where it hurts.

If we could replicate our form in the 85 minutes of the Liverpool game, I think we might get something out of this match.

No sign that such a thing is likely, however as our players tire and continue to carry Wesley. So 0-3 Iím afraid as we descend into the bottom three for Christmas.

Leicester are a great team, on a great run. As Lee B says we want 110% off those players, tomorrow of all days.

3-2 win in a 110% performance in an emotionally charged and amazing Villa Park.

Minute's applause before the game, personally i'd have preferred a minute's silence.

''Would you bet against us''

A hard-fought 1-0 to the Villa.

I would too. Proper respect. Why is it not possible?

Because applause is a lot easier.

It must be a modern phenomenon, perhaps I'm just old.

Sums up the world we live in, today. Too many people canít stand in silence for sixty seconds and think about the person involved. The club opt for applause because they donít want the embarrassment of the silence not being properly observed.

Sir Ron deserves the applause, he certainly earned It.  Why not appreciate him like that rather than silence

I can fully understand people wanting silence but I think a rousing round of applause for everything he did for our club is very fitting. I will be thinking of him throughout the game.
I really hope we win for him but it will be tough.

Silence for the same reason I remove my hat when a hearse passes, for reflection, for respect. However it's not the time nor the place to debate one or the other.

A bit harsh - i mean, my teeth would be white if I could afford the dental care!

Yes indeed I have white teeth envy, in this age of austerity, one short man flashing his white teeth around whilst the rest of us suffer years of sugar, caffeine and nicotine staining, is just not on 😬 UTV for Ron

It will be interesting to see how the TV coverage of this match weighs Villa's  "Ron Saunders RIP" vs the usual "Leicester Are Owned By An Asian Conglomerate and sell lots of shirts and promote the EPL to plastic supporters Wankfest"

Did I mention that I hate these c***s?

Their league title "victory" a few years ago was a greater indication of sport being fixed than anything the NFL has ever rolled out. Pete Rozelle's ghost even woke up and said, "Wow, they fixed that shit better than we ever did."

Canít see anything other than a loss today. We need to get our house in order and not perform well but lose. Everton have had new manager bounce and Southampton could well get something from Newcastle. Letís hope we get something but Leicester are in form and we donít have the consistency

I think we can win this at home. A couple of things need to come together and one if them is Big Wes getting his goal. The other being the back 4 being totally switched on for 90+ mins.
Anyway, putting my money where my mouth is, I have a score on at odds approaching 4/1 for the win and we're certainly not as bad as that. 3-2 Villa, Jack, Wes, Luiz, Pereira and Fuchs for them.

Hoping the team will be channelling Ron's never-say-die spirit today to ease our collective jitters...

Guilbert on the bench, I'd have brought him straight back in to be honest.  Leicester have played us a compliment by changing their formation to flood the midfield.  Gonna be a hard one. Konsa keeps his place, I wonder if that's to do with his pace, against Vardy.
