Title: Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Aston Villa Pre-Match
Post by: Bad English on November 06, 2019, 03:34:09 PM
I know we barely recognise their existence while they spend every waking hour dreaming of gaps but there is a game of football to be played on Sunday at 2pm. What do you reckon?

1-3 to the Villa. FTF!

What will VAR bring us this Sunday? Can't see us winning but a point will be great. The issue we face against them is their pace. Do we attack them and get caught but the counters or sit back and invite them. A lot will depend on our main men Mings, Jack and SJM

Has the feel of a fairly big game. They've only won 1 home game all season, but still will be a tricky game, I'm calling a draw.

1-1 Grealish to score

They are in decent form, were the better side at Arsenal last weekend. Have we faced wing backs this season yet? Presume we have just can't recall the specific game. Smith was impressed by our wide men last weekend so it will be interesting how he fits them in with Grealish returning. Maybe it's McGinn that needs a game out.

I didn't see our last two games, how has Luiz done? Getting plenty of chances but going on reports here and elsewhere, it doesn't appear as if he has nailed the starting spot next to Nakamba yet.

Luiz isn’t going to oust Nakamba any day soon. His best contribution in the short term could be from the subs bench.

Nakamba and Luiz is a decent midfield pairing and Nakamba in particular has been very good recently. However can't see anything beyond McGinn - Grealish - Nakamba at present for a 3 man midfield.

No great worries if Luiz needs to be included for whatever reason to replace any unavailable midfielder as Saturday against Liverpool demonstrated pretty well.

Middle three of Luiz, Nakamba and McGinn

Front three of Grealish, Wesley and Trez/El Ghazi.

Another tough game, but one which looks a lot more like a must-win than the previous two so in one sense trickier (though in no other senses). The stereotype of them is that they do well against top half sides who attack them and less well against lower half sides who block them. We look like a lower half side who'll attack them, and away from home at that, so it doesn't necessarily look good. On the other hand, we've shown that we can counter-attack with the best of them in this division, which happens to be their Achilles' heel as well. If we have Jack back, I back us to get a result.

Hard to call, this one. Both sides are more than capable of winning and playing well.

I have to say my previous ambivalence/goodwill towards them has all but evaporated after seeing their fans on social media. I know they will point the finger back at us for something Bruce said but about them. I don't expect them to like us or respect us, but I didn't imagine they would drop straight into the same sort of behavior as Blues and Albion. Everyone else around this region seems to have to relate everything they do in the light of what Villa are doing.

1-2 Villa.

Important we don't lose otherwise big pressure going into Newcastle game.

Wolves have improved last few weeks but they don't score that many goals, drawn 1-1 in three of their home games so far.

This is my concern. These fuckers play to the 90th minute and score a lot of late goals. We on the other hand seem to die in the 80th minute and concede a lot of goals. Why do I feel we are going to fuck it up massively late on?

Just about to say the same thing. They seem to have a habit of scoring late on to get a win or draw, but it's not as often as you'd think looking at their results...unlike our habit of conceding late goals.

Another tough one, there a good side & Jota & Himinez pretty classy. Saying that hopefully they’ll be knackered from Thursday night match. According to Smith interview today, Grealish hasn’t trained all week and good chance he’ll be out. Same side as last week then for me. As well as Targett has been playing for us, think Traore will test him. Our centre midfield trio of McGinn, Nakamba, Luiz will hopefully stamp authority on the game, think 2-2, hope for a 1-3

30 years I've lived in Wolverhampton (I know, I know). An absolute desperate club that are aching to be noticed. Heard fuck all off them for four decades until they finally finished above us and then they were falling over each other to manufacture a 'rivalry' with us ,  they messure everything they do against what we have done and their actual local rivals care more about us than they do them. Singing about gaps and levels, a more cringey set of fucktards you will never come across. They have an abnormal amount of middle aged fat blokes that wear football tops two sizes too small with names on the back. Weird as fuck club.

They've not been great at home this season though.  Still think it will be a tough game and judging by some of the calls in to WM this week, their fans will have whipped themselves up into a frenzy.

I'm another one who just doesn't get their fans' seeming obsession with us.  Like the residents of Small Heath and Sandwell, any upturn in fortune is greeted with 'mind the gap' and 'pride of the Midlands' nonsense aimed in our direction.  Suppose we should be flattered really, as they obviously see us as so e kind of benchmark.

All I know, is that I want Villa to be challenging for trophies and competing with the top teams in the country and not obsessing over finishing above the likes of Blues, Albion, Wolves and Coventry.

This is a very important game in respect of how we’re perceived as a team, by us fans & everyone, I think we’re learning as a prem team, we did pretty well against the top two, especially against 'The Mighty Reds YNWA', but ultimately no points, one look at the table & the need for any points now is obvious, we definitely don’t want the plucky losers tag, today could define our season if we win
