SUBS: Kalinic, Hause, Bree, Guilbert, Engels, Targett, Lansbury, Jota, Green, Hogan.
No Wes. Might be rested or a slight knock in training. Good to see AEG back.
-
Our staring 11....
Our starting XI at Charlton, as @Trezeguet makes his debut:
Steer, Elmohamady, Konsa, Mings, Taylor, Hourihane, McGinn, Grealish, El Ghazi, Trezeguet, Davis.
-
Pleased to see our Egyptian Football Fruit starts 8) 8) 8)
-
Oh dear I hope someone publishes a pre match convo with Deano telling us what’s wrong with Wesley ....I hope yesterday’s rumours about broken leg aren’t true on his own thread
-
Mods, please delete, Toronto beat me to it !
-
too right.
-
Anyone know when Kodjia is back?
I would have thought if Elmo is back then Kodjia would be too, they both could do with some game time with the new players but theres only one game left after today for Jimmy
-

If it was true surely it would have come out by now.
-
Really emphasises the need to get another forward in.
-
Yep. I know Kodjia will be an option but a forward has to be high on the agenda now along with a keeper. Dare I say it two forwards ideally as Kodjia isn’t exactly a spring chicken and I have some doubts about his PL ability.
-

Kodjia was playing at the ACoN at least 10 days after Elmo as Ivory Coast got to the semis didn’t they? I’d imagine he’s still on his Holidays.
-
Wes posted a photo about being ready for the PL yesterday so he's hardly likely to have a broken leg is he ?
Not to mention i haven't seen a single bit of evidence he even played against Kuwait
I would like to know why he's not playing though and also it shows how woefully under stacked we are up front
-
Wesley has played in all the friendlies, I'm guessing they just want to give Davis & Hogan a run out today - nothing more sinister than that
-

They've both played in all the friendlies also
-

If he was on the bench, I might agree. The fact that he's not even on the bench suggests that the rumours of an injury were true.
-
Wesley picked up an injury against a closed door friendly against Kuwait- taken off after 80 minutes according to a twitter account.

That's my suspicion, too.
-
So do we know if Douglas and Marvellous will play in Germany?
Surely they will not walk straight into the team for Spurs.
-
No Rush either!
Injured as well?
-
No mention of Wes playing against Kuwait here
https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-lose-kuwait-bodymoor-16653817
-
He played against Walsall on Wednesday night - why was he playing in another match less than 24 hours later? The conditions were knackering at Bescot in that heat??
-
Starting team very much like the Wembley one. Wonder if Barney RHM and O'Hare are earmarked for loan or sale.
-

He wasn't.

New away kit looks great.
-
New away kit looks great.
It does. It’s a really nice colour
-
Watching the game, trying to figure where players are playing, but the constant babbling by Woodwards is impossible to actually use as info. He does a constant noise of whateverthefuck it is he is saying
-
Watching the game, trying to figure where players are playing, but the constant babbling by Woodwards is impossible to actually use as info. He does a constant noise of whateverthefuck it is he is saying
It’s massively annoying. I’m just surprised he’s never had any constructive feedback (or maybe he has) about it. Let the watching supporters breathe and enjoy. Different on the radio. You don’t have to talk all the fucking time.
-
Bit scrappy so far.
-
Wesley has played in all the friendlies, I'm guessing they just want to give Davis & Hogan a run out today - nothing more sinister than that
Hopefully a transfer shop window game for them both
-
Lively start.
-
So do we know if Douglas and Marvellous will play in Germany?
Surely they will not walk straight into the team for Spurs.
Doug = no work permit
Marv = not a Villa player
-
Davis needs to get ahead of his marker.
-
Things I'd Like to See Today: a corner slung straight into the box with no pissfarting about.

For other baseball fans....... Woodward’s style reminds me of Vin Scully, the veteran and knowledgable but vastly overrated commentator
-
For other baseball fans....... Woodward’s style reminds me of Vin Scully, the veteran and knowledgable but vastly overrated commentator
But Scully made his name on the radio way before TV. And Scully also paced himself. Jack is just a constant stream of poop.

That's my suspicion, too.
He might have a niggle but he hasn't broken his leg. He was photographed shopping in Birmingham and noticeably didn't have a cast or crutches.
-

The thing with Woodward is that he never offers any insight into the game. He literally just describes what everyone can see for themselves, bar the occasional nugget from his list of factoids.
-
Crossing is atrocious today. Guilbert already looks to be the best crosser of the ball from the preseason games so far.
-
Excellent subtitles again.
It remains Neil Milk.
-
The only players involved against Kuwait were those that played 20 mins or less against Walsall, so there's a chance he got a knock in training this week but he didn't break his leg against Kuwait.
-
I think we can see how important Wesley and Jota will be. We seem to lack invention so far in the final third.
-
Even once we settle to what we all imagine to be the best starting XI there’s going to be a few weeks of blending in. We might not see us properly click for a little while against PL opponents who for the most part won’t have made a lot of changes from last season.
-
Am I imagining this or is Neil Taylor looking a bit chunky?
-
Oh fuck
I thought Jack was crocked there.
-
I think we can see how important Wesley and Jota will be. We seem to lack invention so far in the final third.
it’s first game out for both Trezeguet and El Ghazi!
-
Looks like Grealish is okay. Looked a bit of a ****** tackle for a friendly.
-
Things I'd Like to See Today: a corner slung straight into the box with no pissfarting about.
It's shocking this and its not just Villa it's near every team I watch. The amount of times corners fail to beat the first man is daft. GET IT IN THE BOX.
-
Looks like Grealish is okay. Looked a bit of a c*** tackle for a friendly.
Didn't it just. I unleashed a foul mouthed tirade in the living room. To myself.
-
Stream’s gone!
-
Stream down fuck me
-
"Grealish is moving freely after..." froze...
-
Four-nil Charlton, FFS.
-
Worst possible situation - no visuals but Woodward still being broadcast
-
At least Jack’s gone now too. Give my ears a rest
-
Smith out!
-
YEEEEEEESSSS!!!!!
.
Trezeguet!
-
Four-nil Charlton, FFS.
Field goal apparently and an extra point despite there not being a touchdown
-
PRAVDA enforced blackout as Jack was about to let slip that Wesley is out for 3 years.
-
She is the most beautiful streaker I've ever seen.
-
2-0!
Trezeguet again! Superb goal
-
Wesssssssssleyyyyyyyy on one leg hammers it home
-
... and not even a “and whilst we await the return of your programme, here’s a piece of music”.
-
The clock is still ticking on the screen but there is no match, just a picture of the Villa crest.
-
I'm using the youtube stream but it's gone dead. Same for everyone?
-
Perfect hat trick left right and header.... bravo
-
She is the most beautiful streaker I've ever seen.
GET THE PICTURE BACK ON FFS!!!
-
4-0!
Wesley ****** it into the top corner with his crutches!
-
Have we got 2 Brazilians on the pitch !?
-
Taylor is still shit.
-
Missing it because the cunting YouTube stream is down
-
This is the best I've seen Taylor play.
-
I lost the stream just after the fourth goal.
-
Missing it because the cunting YouTube stream is down
Some quality goals
-
Have we got 2 Brazilians on the pitch !?
That beautiful streaker definitely had one
-
I don’t like these rumours about Wesley.
-
5-0 Jack hits it in with his bulge.
-
Taylor is still shit.
Boy does he know how to slow things down.
-
There appears to be nothing on Pravda about this game st all.
-
One nil.
-
Neil Taylor advances over the halfway line. Thinks about a cross...has a stern-word with himself, thinks about what might have happened. Cries a bit.
-
We are actually winning, according to Bet 365.
-
I suppose for all you Woodward haters at least you can't hear him at the moment. I find his waffle quite soothing, it makes me sleepy.
-
Woodward’s prattled on so much he’s finally broken the internet
-
I think I might be coming to terms with the badge.
An inevitable outcome of staring at it in hd for the last ten minutes
-
It was El Ghazi that scored, Grealish set it up.
-
Woodward’s prattled on so much he’s finally broken the internet
😂
-
Neil Taylor advances over the halfway line. Thinks about a cross...has a stern-word with himself, thinks about what might have happened. Cries a bit.
And goes backwards, again. Might as well play with 10 men.
-
El Ghazi scored after being set up by Jack.
-
Pretty amazing the club Twitter hasn't mentioned the coverage being fucked
-
I think I might be coming to terms with the badge.
An inevitable outcome of staring at it in hd for the last ten minutes
I was thinking the same. It looks quite nice on that claret background. Lovely claws on the lion.
-
GOAL!
Villa in front through
@AElGhazi7
. Brilliantly slipped through by
@JackGrealish1
, and the Dutchman pokes home. Best move of the game.
-
Anwar scores. We have to wait until after 5 o’clock to see all the goals on sky. Bollocks!
-
El Ghazi with the goal according to the internet.
-
It's certainly better than listening to the wife's shrill shrieking at the kids in the next room, I might actually turn the sound up on Woodward when or if he comes back on.
-
Appleyard just ran on in full kit and vollyed a Charlton player into the net, ref gave it as a goal, 2-0.
-
Neil Taylor advances over the halfway line. Thinks about a cross...has a stern-word with himself, thinks about what might have happened. Cries a bit.
I thought you loved Neil Taylor?
-
What a surprise, AvTV even through the medium of YouTube is shit. Pfft.
-
And we're back in the room!
-
Wayhey we're back.
-
Technical issues beyond our control. But unfortunately they have JW back on.
-
At least we now have an apology, I should think so you useless fuckers.
-
I wish he'd make his bloody mind up. One minute "I love Taylor", next minute "I'm ambivalent about Taylor". No wonder they call us fickle.
-
Pictures back just in time for the half time break.
-
Typical, we've scored!
I was finding the badge pretty mesmerising
-
Corner off the Charlton blokes nutsack.
-
Oooooh Elmo close
-
That's it, tell us how good the goal was just to rub it in.
-
Odds on that's the only goal of the game!😂
-
So Wesley then....
-
That's it, tell us how good the goal was just to rub it in.
Yes, I'd have preferred him to say that we didn't miss a lot, it was a miscued cross that deflected off the defender and dribbled through the keepers legs, even if it wasn't.
-
From the little I’ve been able to see, we look really comfortable and I know we are playing an inferior opposition but with Douglas, Wesley, Freddie and Targett to come into this side I think things look quite good. Davis is a good player but I want him to be much busier.
-
I see it’s frozen again
-
What a surprise, AvTV even through the medium of YouTube is shit. Pfft.
Talking of which I will probably be in France for the Spurs game on the 10th. If I can’t find a bar showing it - what is the best way to watch it on my iPad?
-
If it goes off again I'm going to throw my season ticket at the TV.
-
Everytime the ball goes anywhere near Davis in the penalty area, I am so willing it to go in for him. A couple of goals would be great for his self-confidence as I think he has a lot going for him. It just needs that little bit of luck.
-
The goal was liquid football.
-
Neat goal
-
What a cracking goal that was. Great stuff.
-
Fantastic goal.
-
The goal was liquid football.
Total Football rounded off by the Dutch bloke from Holland in the Netherlands
-
It really was a super team goal. The one thing we have gotten so much better at since Dean Smith’s arrival.
-
It really was a super team goal. The one thing we have gotten so much better at since Dean Smith’s arrival.
That one thing being basically 'playing football'.
-
I've seen more footage of a bloke forking the turf than I have of the goal.
-
Now playing it on a loop.
-
Well twice.
-
FFS
-
"Hopefully we'll bring you the second half in its entir..."
-
😂
-
He just jinxed the stream again.
-
Bollocks, stream gone again.
-
Incredible timing to lose the stream hahahaha
-
And it's gone again - just as he was saying hopefully won't go off in second half
-
Jack just apologising for loss of pic in first half and it goes again
-
"We apologise for loss of picture in that first half, hopefully we we get the 2nd half in its entir........" picture goes
Great work boys.
-
It really was a super team goal. The one thing we have gotten so much better at since Dean Smith’s arrival.
That one thing being basically 'playing football'.
And to think it only took us 18 years to join the 21st century.
-
Guess it's true what Trump says - London is a third world country without solid internet
-
To paraphrase Spurs fans "even our streams are shit"
-
2019 and we can’t broadcast a game. Good grief. All I can say is thank fuck we are in the PL and no longer have to rely on the club to show our games.
-
This is brilliant stuff.
No picture, silence and occasionally Woodward drifts in with a Partridgism
-
YESSSSSSS #pictures
-
Where's the fucking VAR?
-
So what subs have we made?
-
Hourihane giving the ball away again
-
do you think 30k might have crashed the stream? seems strange.
-
Was this friendly arranged before we signed Konsa?
-
Poor decision making from Green.
He really is not good enough.
-
Green with a curler, a swirler, an absolute Tonev.
-
Green ALWAYS picks the wrong option... not very clever with regards to football
-
So what subs have we made?
Trezeguet, Elmo, El Ghazi off.
Green, Jota, Guilbert on.
-
Good to see Konza’s pace
-
You can see it by the way we stall outside the box that Davis offers little to no intelligent movement and absolutely zero goal threat
-
Jota - Hotter? Is Woodworm right in his pronunciation?
-
YESSSSSSS Andre 2-0
-
Goal Green!
-
You can see it by the way we stall outside the box that Davis offers little to no intelligent movement and absolutely zero goal threat
Great play from Davis there!
-
Nice from Green.
-
Jota - Hotter? Is Woodworm right in his pronunciation?
Yep
-
Green ALWAYS picks the wrong option... not very clever with regards to football
😂😂😂
-
Andre Green. And there was me just about to say don't think he'll make it
-
Davis does a lot of very good work outside the box, not so much inside it. If he can improve that he'd be a very decent player.
-
You can see it by the way we stall outside the box that Davis offers little to no intelligent movement and absolutely zero goal threat
Great play from Davis there!
Not meaning to be overly harsh but he didn’t have to do much there in truth. He was in acres of space. And my comment was really about his movement in the box versus his work outside.
-
SJM 3-0
-
Yesssssssss. 3-0 SJM
-
Three-nil, SJM.
-
Keeper-error helps SJM score.
-
Great by SJM
-
"The Villa fans go doolally at The Valley." #AccidentalPartridge
-
I really do like the work that Jota does off the ball. A very smart player
-
I know it's only a friendly so we shouldn't get carried away but we're going to win the league.
-
Champagne football now
-
Jack - “surely the Addicks have Addit”
Fuck me
-
I really do like the work that Jota does off the ball. A very smart player
He has the most sophisticated barnet / beard combo since Pirlo.
-
Green ALWAYS picks the wrong option... not very clever with regards to football
😂😂😂
He didn't need to think, just hit the ball.
-
I know it's only a friendly so we shouldn't get carried away but we're going to win the league.
I'll be pretty disappointed if we only win one trophy, tbh.
-

I was taking advantage of his role in the second goal to slightly wind you up.
I agree that Davis needs to get himself into better goal scoring areas but I think it will come. I’d like to see him in a decent Championship side on loan but at the moment, he’s reserve striker.
-
Jack - “surely the Addicks have Addit”
Fuck me
;D I like Jack.
-
#doingaFulham
-
I’d like Jack to get a rest now.
-
I know it's only a friendly so we shouldn't get carried away but we're going to win the league.
I'll be pretty disappointed if we only win one trophy, tbh.
It annoys me that we're only in 3 competitions this season so will have to wait another year before we show City how to win the quadruple.
-
I know it's only a friendly so we shouldn't get carried away but we're going to win the league.
Won't run away with it though, I can see it going to the last three weeks.
-
Jack is by far the best player on the pitch.
-
I’d like Jack to get a rest now.
Woodward's not that bad?
-
That first goal was a bit filthy wasn't it with that pass and move football.
-
Pen Charlton

LOL as I would expect sir. And as usual as soon as a player gets a bit of criticism he does something good. But yes, he needs a season long loan and a lot of games
-

If only we could have won the Premier League Asia Trophy, that's the Big One.
Oh, boo. Penalty.
-
Boooooooooooooo 3-1
-
Davis good hold up ply and layoffs behind both goals. He’s impressed me today, albeit still looks nowhere near scoring.
-
How casual was that?!
-
How casual was that?!
I thought he was walking up to re-spot the ball.
-
How casual was that?!
I thought he was walking up to re-spot the ball.
Same great penalty tbf.
-
I wasn't watching when the pen was given. What was if for?
-
Against konsa I think. Clumsy challenge nothing too terrible.
-
BB not even on the bench. Shipped out?
-
Should have been 3-2
-

Re: Jack's bit of trivia, he's a tedious gobshite.
I like him 😂
-
Aaaaaand... it's gone.
-
Gone again. I think someone needs to turn the servers off and on again
-
Is this what it’s like with AVTV subscription?
-
Or Liverpool or 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' both work. and Cov.
-
This stream has crashed more often than a copied Speccy game trying to load.
-
Stream gone: I’m gone; soooo frustrating.
Cheers, guys.
-
Is this bloke a fucking Jonah or what. Starts apologising for the earlier problems and describing how great the first goal was that we all missed and it goes again.
-
Jota has made it 4-1
-
5-1 Deano up for a corner nods home.
-
"If you missed the first goal, its was spectacular".
The badge is absolutely hypnotic though.
-
Jota has made it 4-1
Look forward to an apology/ explanation of how it was the best goal ever scored by a bearded man in any pre season ever.
-
50 years ago we put a man on the Moon etc
-
Fun fact, there's more people on youtube looking at our badge than either sha or the bitters can fit in their ground.
-
Back on
-
Jota has made it 4-1
Liar liar pants on fire
-
I'd forgotten how poor JW is as a commentator. Is he just being used for the pre-season friendlies?
-
Now Jack, don't mention the steam again, no need to apologise I'm sure you're very very sorry.
-
I'd forgotten how poor JW is as a commentator. Is he just being used for the pre-season friendlies?
Maybe he's warming up too, then when the season starts he'll be bang on form....
-
Dear Dean - take Jack off
-
At least the stream was restored in time for the answer's to Jack's trivia question. Christ.
-
One thing, regardless of who is in our team, Jack is head and shoulders above them.
-
Almost a perfect weighted through ball from Jota there.
Is it me or is Target looking a bit dodgy today?
-
That'll do, just keep prattling on about the floodlights.
-
liquid football from SJM
-
Sensational goal! SJM
-
One thing, regardless of who is in our team, Jack is head and shoulders above them.
McGinn says different
-
SJM two, Villa four. Great goal.
-
What a Fucking goal by SJM
-
SJM - What a goal!
-
Fantastic from McGinn.
-
That was just sublime from SJM
-
Super goal from mcginniesta.
-
That was McGinniesta ... great goal
-
Guilbert is looking really good. Links up well with Jota too.
Excellent goal by SJM.
-
superb by SJM there.
-
Great determination from SJM there and good finish.
-
SJM two, Villa four. Great goal.
Harsh on SJM being on the losing side after scoring twice.
-
Vintage SJM. Never give up.
-
Ridiculous from McGinniesta.
-
Jota and Jack do work well together. Like the skill and look of Guilbert too.
-
Why is my internet about 4 minutes behind everyone else?
As you were, at some point I'd dropped off "live". Just in time for SJM. 'av some of that!
-
Honestly, given how many changes we have made to the squad and how many quality players we have to come in and integrate this is really very impressive. Our one touch football, possession play, ball control and overall movement is just lovely to watch.
-
One thing, regardless of who is in our team, Jack is head and shoulders above them.
Yeh Shampoo football
-
https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial/status/1155143038525739008
-
We’re going to have quite a midfield if Luiz is on the same wavelength as Jack, Jota and SJM. We just need some more of the same football intelligence, work rate and quality up front...hopefully Trezeguet and Wes will be but it’s Green, Davis, Kodjia and Hogan are not.
-

Joined up thinking for the first time in a long, long time; pick a way to play, stick to it, acquire players that can do it. I'm loving it.
-
3 points, job done.
-
Good stuff.
You'd think Jota had played in this team for the last 2 years.
-
https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial/status/1155143038525739008
Mad skillz innit bruv! What a baller! 😂
-
Jack, Jota,Fred and super John combine really well
-
Wonderful goal by SJM. Good performance all round. Lots of positives and Douglas Luiz still to come!
-
Decent run out again. Still think we'll leak a load at the back until we build understanding and partnerships along the back four.
-
Re: Jack's bit of trivia I think the two teams are Liverpool and Northampton Town.
York City
-
Re: Jack's bit of trivia I think the two teams are Liverpool and Northampton Town.
York City
They're non-league.
-
My only concern with these friendlies is the opposition have barely carried a threat so we haven’t been tested at all at the back.
-
I'm sure we'll get tested next week.
-
Davis in a nutshell today. Some lovely touches in the build up, created 2 goals dropping off. But zero goal threat - one one occasion a ball was whipped in, he was right in the mix and he didn’t even jump.
-
Where are the keys for the champions league bus?
-
Davis in a nutshell today. Some lovely touches in the build up, created 2 goals dropping off. But zero goal threat - one one occasion a ball was whipped in, he was right in the mix and he didn’t even jump.
The cross from El Ghazi? Even the Jolly Green Giant wouldn't have got his head on that one.

I think he’s going to do a Luca Toni and start finding his scoring touch in his mid twenties. His overall game is solid, so can be built on.
-
Did someone forget to tell SJM it was a friendly?
-
I’m rarely impressed by anything these days and I know that these were inferior opposition but Deano really does have his own style. There were times in this match when we were playing as if something really significant depended on the outcome.
It’ll be much more of a challenge in the PL but with this attitude you can’t help be think that we may be back for good this time.
-
We'll be fine.
-
Watch and repeat. Watch and repeat.
#SJM

I know you can look at the standard of the opposition, but we have got something about us. The way we can go from the game seemingly meandering pointlessly to hold, turn, touch, touch, touch, goal in the blink of an eye is wonderful. I feel a '77 coming on. Let's just not bollocks it up away from home this time, eh, Villa?
-
Freddie looks excellent.

On this basis, if SJM maintains this level of commitment, he is going to be a very very big name in the PL.
Keeping him may be a problem at season end.

No it won’t as the top 4 will be worrying about keeping their own players from the mighty Aston Villa!

The good thing about having very rich owners AND lots of Premier League revenue is that we don't have to sell anyone unless we get relegated or there is a release clause.
See Leicester who can comfortably hold on to their players or demand over the top dollar for them. Even Palace can hold out for stupid money for partly proven players.

Watch and repeat. Watch and repeat.

That’s the most John McGinn goal I’ve ever seen.
-
My only concern with these friendlies is the opposition have barely carried a threat so we haven’t been tested at all at the back.
I tend to agree. I know Leipzig will be a tough test but I do worry slightly that we’ve barely been tested yet whereas Spurs have already played Juventus and Man Utd.
It’s a minor gripe though as in recent years we’ve usually looked shite in pre season regardless of opposition so this is quite refreshing.
-
Just flicked through some of the game on YouTube. I know it's only a friendly, but the second goal from McGinn is just ridiculous, absolute class. I know he's never gonna be prolific, but I really like Davis, offers strength and great hold up play, would really help all the busy players around him, I wouldn't loan him out.
-
Davis is our modern day Heaney. I don’t think he will ever be prolific but does a load of good work.

Sorry, you've lost me, who is this Heaney you speak of?
-
whilst we knew it already, Mings looks class. Very assured with the ball.

First impressions of Trez?

Agree there. He is definitely that type of striker and I think if he can weigh in with 10+ goals and carry on supplying other goal scorers he’ll be a really useful player. But at the moment he doesn’t seem to have either an eye for goal or an instinct for getting into the right positions to score so I really hope we are working overtime on coaching that side of his game.
I really like him and I hope he makes it as a PL player, fwiw I think he will.

Who?
Heaney! Don't you remember his prolific partnership with Andrew Greaves?

He'll fit in. Interesting that all the new Egyptian Villans watching on YouTube were commenting how he's better on the left side.

He’ll get much fitter and better and what will be great is to see him switch wings with AEG. Or as a threat off the bench. But right at this minute I’d rather have Jota start. He’s been terrific in pre season
-
Jota has really surprised me. Cracking player, regardless of the opposition, will be interesting to see how her performs in the Prem but he seems an absolute steel. I like the mentality of press press press and, against, despite the opposition, this is a great habit to have going in to the new season as we will take no crap and will take the game to the opposition. You get the feeling that Villa are now just their to make the numbers up and won't be overawed by anyone. I would like another three signings, keeper, forward and another deeper lying midfielder. I'm not convinced that we are in for Nakamba but we will be a bit vulnerable if Luiz is out of the side.

Yes I agree. Think today was all about giving him, El Ghazi and AEM some minutes on their returns.
Next week for Leipzig it will surely be 11 who'll play Spurs so think Jota and Gulibert will be back in.
-
Bjarnasson wasn't in the squad today? Is he offski?
-
Trez looks a tidy player from what I saw today.
-
Jota has a little bit of Zola about him. Intelligent player who has nice close control and a keen eye for a clever pass like the one that set Wes up the other night.

Only caught bits of this on Yow Tube (when it wasn't down that is). Looked as if we played some nice stuff again.

Just watched it in full - No complaints whatsoever. Not bothered about the quality of the opposition either - If it was that big an issue, DS would have ensured we played other teams.

saw Wolfie yesterday
still going strong

On holiday as his team went further in the ACON than Elmo's.

Thanks

One tiny (very minor) thing from watching the Walsall and Charlton friendlies.
In both games Hourihane played a lazy sideways pass which got intercepted and gave the opposition a run at our back four.
He was probably motm in playoff final so not that worried, but mistakes like that will be punished at the highest level.
I'd hope it's just one of those things, it was just a bit disconcerting to see it happen two games in succession.
-
The main observation I have from watching the Walsall and Charlton games is that some players - mainly the squad fillers - will need to think more quickly and be ready to move the ball much more slickly in the top flight: they won't get the time on the ball that they're used to.

One of the oddest things I read on here post-Wembley was that certain players would be better as they'd have longer on the ball in the PL than in the Championship.
-
Interesting. I was thinking I was struck by how generally intelligent our players are which maybe explains why the discrepancy with squad players seems more obvious like you say.
Watching passing and movement involving all the new players and AEG/SJM/JG/Mings there no more passes back to the opposition and hands on hips.

Yes, noticed and thought the same. I like Hourihane but it was very noticeable how loose he is with the ball some times.

Had a great afternoon, sat with my brother in law in the home seats just behind Villa dug out. What a great friendly club, really impressed. Our fans turned up in numbers and of course were excellent, impressing the home fans, somewhat bewildered by the numbers. At HT I thought we had looked like we lacked PL qu
ality, little cutting edge and was worried. Turned it up several gears for 15 mins after HT and looked great, but we will have to play at that level all the time in the big league. I think it might take some time to find our feet but we will be OK, lower mid table I think.
-
How much were tickets yesterday? Was tempted to go but had to look after the nephew. Our record in London away games is pretty shite whichever division we're in. Coupled with the prices charged at those type of grounds, I think yesterday might prove to be one of the most satisfactory Villa games in London for the next 10 months. Fair play to those that went.
-
Tickets were 15 quid, a tenner for kids. Darren Woolley paid a few quid extra to watch it though....
-
That Daz, a scoundrel by all accounts, despite all the football autobiogs he reads.
-
Had a great day. Met up with my old mates from Lloyds Bank at the Doggett's and visited other hostelries on route.
The match: we were very slick in attack. Not convinced about the defence, but that is how DS rolls.
One thing for sure:it will not be boring.

I know well worth it though lol.
