The first time I saw him play was as a full back and was as poor as Hutton. So what an immense career he!s had. My own take on him at Rrrrrreal Madrid is that he was in his time a bigger club ledg than Zidane and that’s the reason Zidane wants him out. Pogba may be a terrific player but what a nuisance he can turn out to be
-
Mad to think of what he has won and yet he's still not really popular over there. Then again, those are the fans that booed Ronaldo. They're a bunch of Francoite bellends.
Having said that, he has shit hair, a terrible celebration and is a diving twat so I won't cry my eyes out for him. And the £600k a week probably provides some consolation for his treatment.
-
I hope he rinses them for every penny he can get. He has won far more there than Zidane did as a player and won the Champs League for them the last time. The way they are engineering him out as a way of thank you is pretty disgraceful.
-
Wouldn't surpise me if he's still there when the transfer window closes. He doesn't want to go to China and nobody else can/will pay his wages.
If he ends up somewhere it will likely be with Real paying more than half his wages, so I'm not sure what they've really achieved by treating him as a pariah.
-
It's because he wont integrate with the team and sticks to himself, doesn't speak the language.
Put another way, it's like trying to drive the quiet guy out of your office, as gets in at 9 and leaves at 5, but just gets on with his work and bills like a trooper for you without ever causing you a problem.
-
Seems set for Jiangsu Suning. Three year contract, a million quid a week.
Be interesting to see if he sticks it out. I think a fair few players used to the comforts of European football have moaned about how hard they're expected to work over there.
-
What a waste of talent. Come on Deano put a cheeky one in

No.No. No. No. No. No. No.
-
The decision to move to China confirms he’s only interested in money rather than proving he is still a great player. I suspect he knows his best days are behind him as do the top European teams which is why no one has been beating down the door to try and sign him.

What the actual fuck?! And there was me thinking that his reported £600k per week at Real was obscene.

And even more "nos"

It didn’t appear that he had too many choices, once it was clear Zidane wanted him out there wasn’t any serious European interest was there?
-
Yeah. I'm no Bale fan, but he's damned either way here. Stay at Real and sit on the bench and everyone will call him a lazy mercenary. Go to the only place that has shown an interest and get called a greedy mercenary.
-
He could take a pay cut - to say a measly £200k a week - and play for a club in a decent league. I get that most of us wouldn’t take a pay cut but most of us haven’t already earned enough during our career that our children would never have to work let alone ourselves. He could still earn a lot of money by even top footballer standard and play in a competitive level if he wanted to. If cash is his only concern then he deserves to be called a mercenary.
-
I get that point of view but unless I missed a story that didn’t appear to have been a choice for him did it?
-
No player deserves £1m per week...it’s beyond ridiculous! My brain can’t even compute what you could or should do with that much money.

He probably thinks that he's just been playing for the biggest club in the world, and hasn't done anything wrong. So doesn't feel that he deserves punishing by taking a pay cut.
-
Fair point that no one has come in for him but there’s no chance that that will happen unless he’s prepared to take a pay cut. It’s not as if he will be on minimum wage wherever he goes.
In my opinion he’ll be regarded as a very good player, but not a great player, who was part of a team driven by Cristiano Ronaldo, who failed to step up to the mark when Ronaldo left. His legacy will be on a par with say Karin Benzema.
You would think that he would be champing at the bit to prove Zidane wrong and show he is truly one of the greats but instead money seems to be main issue for him.

One transfer window would see it gone.
After his contract is finished he could buy Cardiff City if he wanted to. I don’t know what his plans are when his career is over but owning his own club would be doable and he’d still have a few years as a player for them.
The reality is that he’ll spend it on fancy cars and a plush apartment in Dubai.
-
And if Small Heath could have scraped up £4 million he'd have gone there.
-
I don’t think any major European player has lasted 3 years in China.

No time for the ponytailed simian at all. But he didn't deserve that.

The way I read it was that Zidane wants the spot and wages to rebuild the team and and has told Bale to go, reinforcing the message by leaving him out of friendlies. Bale wants to stay but isn’t being allowed to.
A talented player with everything but I agree, not quite top class and his refusal to integrate is probably one of the main reasons for that.
-
Now staying at Real apparently. For the time being anyway.

I've watched Beckham, Owen and now Bale - they don't seem to like players from over here having any success. Weird.
Owen seemed to score from every other substitute appearance but was never a regular.
Bale would be a legend at any other club.
-
Real fans booed Cristiano Ronaldo because they didn't like that he was getting more attention than Raul. The sad, pathetic, Francoite jingoistic bellends.

Really? Jeez that’s a new standard in low, pathetic childishness. Sod them forever.

78 league starts in 4 years.
3 years left on contract at #600k a week (29 million a year) and just turned 30.
It’s hard to see him going any where if the Chinese don’t take him.

Wow! 4 x Champions League trophies, 3 x Super Cups, 3 x Club World Cups, 1 x La Liga title, a Copa del Rey and a Supercopa might beg to differ...

78 league starts in 4 years! He's missed 50% of the games!

Darren Fletcher won 6 PL titles, 1 CL, 1 FAC, 1 CWC, 1 LC and 4 CS. Trophies alone don't make a player top class, i'd agree that Bale was probably in that second tier of players.
-
Bale has now pulled out of the pre season tour after his China move was called off.
He doesn't really come over well in this.

He was, arguably, the third best player on the planet for a time. He's nowhere near any second tier of players.

Darren Fletcher?!
I know that defensive midfield role often goes unnoticed but that's high praise indeed!
-
I had him just behind Nigel Reo-Coker and Ashley Westwood.
-
He’s very, very good.
Just won’t be discussed in conversations about the best player in the world at any point in time the way that Messi, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Zidane, Maradonna, Figo, Cruyff, Baggio Dugarry etc will be.
-

I would really like to know why ZZ hates him so much.
Bale does come over as being a bit precious, he has a twatish hair do as well.

9 players in the history of football being categorised as "top class" is pretty exclusive. Especially when you didn't even mention Pele!
I think this comes down to the definition of "top class" - if you're talking about the all time greatest ever 5 a side team, then yeah, I'd agree with you. But if you're talking about the best players of his generation then he's absolutely up there. If wages were no object he'd get in any team in the world.
-
I think in part he (like all players of this era) suffers when compared to Messi and Ronaldo. They will be remembered as the great players of this generation.
Another thing is that the Real Madrid team he has been a part of may not go down in history as an all time great side. After so many champions leagues that may sound risible, but domestically they weren't ever dominant. Far from it.
A bit part player in a team that couldn't win the league is not the stuff of legend. I think if he'd established himself as top banana after the preening one had left, he'd be more well thought of.
I think on his day he was/is an amazing player, but even with his 4 European cups I wouldn't put him in the same category as say Thierry Henry. Good player yes, world class? Not for me Clive.
-
I think it depends what world class means. I would say he’s absolutely been world class when he was at his peak, as in he was was one of the best players in the world.
He’s not a world great though, in terms of those illustrious few who have sustained excellence basically throughout most of their career.

this is fair, truly great players play, ie they don’t mis 25% of games.
