Aston Villa U23s visiting Edgar Street Hereford FC Saturday 27th July for a pre-season friendly.

Aston Villa Ladies have had a busy day. Thery've renamed themselves Aston Villa Women and have signed three new players, including a German International Marisa Ewers who was plying her trade in the other lot across the city...

That, coupled with a commitment by Christian Purslow to put extra funding into the Womens team to me is a statement of intent. The target appears to be promotion to the top division.
-
That sounds good to me. They need to fix their Twitter account, mind.
Also I can't see anything about new signings on that link, just the name change?
-
Found the new Twitter page and it includes info on our new signings.
https://mobile.twitter.com/AVWFCOfficial
Can a Mod change the thread title to reflect the name change, please?
-
Will do.
-
Ta 😊
-
Not sure where else to put it but Suliman, Clarke, Doyle-Hayes, Ramsey, O'Hare and Hepburn-Murphy are all training with the first team at the moment and will probably get a chance during pre-season. I'm pretty happy with that, I really hope Clarke in particular takes this chance because I think he could become a very good player.
-
The ladies are looking to step up, too
-
A good win for the U23 last night at Tamworth .I was pleased to see we had won 4-1 in a game that we usually find tough .I see our goalkeeper Searle who i must admit i have never heard of saved two pens Good also to see Archer and Sea were among the goals,i have always heard good reports about these two from guys who watch the youths regular
-
Cam came on as sub. Took him 4 minutes to register his first goal of the season for the U23s.
-
I would have gone to this game. I didn't know it was on. I couldn't find it on the Villa Website or the Villa Twitter site.
I have looked again today and also on Soccerway.
Does anyone know where I can find a fixture list of the Pre season games for the Under 23's and Under 18s ?
-
I'll ask Cam's Dad.
-
U18s have Forest Green Saturday away and he thinks the U23s have Stratford away Saturday.

Friendly: Forest Green U18s 0 Aston Villa U18s 3 - Cameron Archer with 2 goals.

Women's League Cup Group Stage has been drawn. We are in the only group that only has one top flight team (Liverpool) so must have a chance of finishing top two and making the Quarter-Finals. Will be a good test for us.
Group A: Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Coventry United, Durham, Liverpool, Sheffield United
Group B: Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, Bristol City, Charlton Athletic, London Bees, London City Lionesses
Group C: Birmingham City, Everton, Leicester City, Manchester City, Manchester United
Group D: Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Lewes, Reading, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United

I've put this in here, Mods please move if necessary. George Boateng to join Villa as youth coach.

So after being denied access to watch the youth team on a Saturday morning they have now switched the reserve games to Bodymore so we can't watch them either.
I know I am in a small minority that follows the second and third Teams but some of us enjoy seeing the young players trying to make the grade and I am pissed off tonight with this latest snub from the Club. I didn't see this one coming I will admit.
-
Can't we attend the Bodymoor games? Struggling to see why they'd bother scheduling them at 7pm if people can't attend.
-
Pre-season tour of Scotland: Hearts FC U18s 2-2 Aston Villa U18s. Cam on the scoresheet yet again.
-
Pre-season tour of Scotland: Hearts FC U18s 2-2 Aston Villa U18s. Cam on the scoresheet yet again.
He seems to be at the point where, ability wise, he's right between the U18s and U23s (he's done well in some games for the U23s but has looked a bit naive for them a few times as well) which bodes well give his age. Hopefully him and Ramsey (as effectively 9 and 10) can both establish themselves with the U23 team this year and push each other along.
-
The women's team seem to be undergoing a big overhaul.
They have just added Emma Follis to the squad. The first player they have ever paid a transfer fee for.

Sorry, only just seen this. Sounds a bit crap, has there been any sort of announcement or explanation?
-
It's not been mentioned on the OS but the under-21s are playing Redditch tomorrow, kick off 12 noon.
-
Two-none at half-time. Jacob Ramsey got the second.
-
Full time 2-0.
-
Anyone know who is in the U23 and U18 squads, as the official site only shows the first team squad?
-
Any of the youth watchers know much about Kane Taylor. Highly rated apparently but Man City have nicked him off us and meant to be agreeing compensation.

Great result 😊

Haven't we also beaten someone else 5-1, was that a cup game?
-
Beat Forest five nil in a friendly last week. Maybe it's that your thinking of?
(I don't care about ending sentences with prepositions, I'm so punk).
-
U23's drawing 1-1 at Swansea. Tait with the goal.
-
Finished 1-1,Nothing about the match at all on our website ,no coverage at all these days which is disappointing to fans like myself who like to follow the kids
-
You are not alone in that.
-
Next up: U23s v Norwich (H) at VP on Saturday.
-
Any of the youth watchers know much about Kane Taylor. Highly rated apparently but Man City have nicked him off us and meant to be agreeing compensation.
I've only just seen this but this is depressing. We should keep our best young players.
-
Money talks. Just ask Sturridge and his agent.
-
Cam scores for the U23s.
-
From the Mail - who knows how accurate this is but 6'4 at 16 is a bit scary. Let's hope he becomes as projected
Aston Villa have beaten a number of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, to secure Nigerian defender Iffy Udanoh, according to reports from his homeland. The 16-year-old is highly rated in Nigeria and is expected to be called up to the U17 side in the coming days. He also holds an American passport and is eligible to play for England.
Along with Liverpool - West Ham and Wolves both gave a trial to the 6ft4 defender who has been likened to Virgil van Dijk. In total, it is claimed eight Premier League clubs were keen on Udanoh, before he signed with Villa. He was previously playing for non-league, London based side Erith & Belvedere before making the switch to Villa's youth set up. Udanoh will be part of the U18 side on B6 as he looks to impress on his initial deal.
-
What were the names of the Italian wonder kid ( Fs were involved) and tne Scandinavion forward (Finnish?) who were with us but never came though?
-
Fabio Ferraresi?
-
And Aaritalo.
-
Villa Women win 3-2 away at London City Lionesses, 100% winning start to the season.
-
Was at the U23 match yesterday against Norwich .Two points dropped really. Cameron Archer scored but missed two good chances ,Jack Clarke also missed a great chance while Tyreik Wright had a cracking effort hit the bar .Was good to see Nyland make his return
-
Interesting that Nyland played then. I wonder if there's a deal for the Croatian lad?
Good to read that we were the preferred destination for a young player that is highly thought of. With how these owners (and therefore downwards) place such an emphasis on young players, I really expect our youth teams to be amongst the best over the coming years.
-
One player who really impressed me on Saturday was the lad Mungo Bridge,he looks good and i can see why several of the top clubs were trying to sign him a few months back .Dominic Revan who Deano called into the first team squad a few times last season also impressed
-
Keep an eye on the subs bench tomorrow.

He sounds a bit...dodgy.
-
You have to wonder if there is some kind of agenda against Aston Villa football club.I am listening to the U21 match against Salford live on Talksport and the commentators can not believe the penalty just awarded against us .They said it was very, very harsh and they thought it was more like a dive and Villa can feel hard done by
-
The reaction from the players clearly thought it should not have been given
-
Not sure if it's been posted elsewhere, but here's an interview with the new Academy Manager Mark Harrison.

Villa women win again, beating Blackburn 2 - 1. Well done ladies 3 wins out of 3, joint top.
Just got back having taken advantage of the free ticket if you have a men’s season ticket. Could have easily been 5 despite an excellent save in injury time denying Rovers a point. Decent turn out too, the lower trinity looked full. Good standard and very enjoyable.
-
Sounds like the new owners have seen the potential for a quick win in getting the Women into the top flight and backed them pretty heavily in the summer. Good to see it's paying off early in the season. The sooner they can overtake the Blues women and put the world back to rights the better.

We have a player in the u18s with the surname Philogene-Bidace. We must have the best crop of youth surnames in the country.
-
Philogene-Bidace a special talent according to the guys i know who watch the youth team regularly
-
I've heard very good things as well.
-
Crystal Palace Ladies 0 Aston Villa Ladies 6. Hat-Trick for Johnson. Ladies now top of the league.
-
Great stuff. The manager won Manager of the Month, too.
-
Under 23’s lost 2-0 at Stoke on Monday evening.
On a side note, and apologies if this has been mentioned before, but the official site and social media channels seem to be fairly limited when it comes to reserve/youth team coverage. Appreciate there was a first team game on the same night, but haven’t seen a single mention of this at all.
-
Their coverage is shocking.
-
That's my biggest complaint about the official site, they just don't provide anything like enough coverage of anything below the first team. The worst thing is, I can get al lthe match details and stats I want about the first team all over the internet in far better quality so I hardly ever use the site because where it should have an advantage of keeping fans up to date on the youth teams and getting people familiar with the kids they instead post fluff about it being the birthday of someone who played for us 20 years ago.
-
Yeah, it’s frustrating. I don’t think it’s ever been particularly great, but there does seem to be a complete absence of anything this season. Just seems strange as I think it’s something that a reasonable portion of fans would be interested in.
-
I like to keep a eye on the reserves and youth teams but the club make it hard .Their lack of coverage is shocking.I did not even know until just now that the reserves played and lost at Stoke on Monday .I also noticed on the team sheet against Norwich reserves the other week that the reserves are due to play some reserve games at 7pm of a Monday night at Bodymoor Heath .If you dont drive you have no chance of watching the game

It's cause and effect. Our reserves have never been particularly well-attended; I can remember a few hundred of us dotted around the top of the old Witton Lane when other clubs were doing Family Fun Nights and getting almost as many as watched their first teams. That said, though, it must be doubly frustrating for anyone who does like to watch the junior teams to have such a diabolical lack of information.

U23s v Man Utd this Monday at the Banks's Stadium.

U18s lost 3-0 at home to Fulham after going down to ten men in the first half for anyone interested.
-
Durham Women 3 Aston Villa Women 0
-
Brilliant news ......Chester In starting 11 for U23’s tonight 💪🏻
-
Villa reserves 4 Man Utd reserves 0 at half time .Could be better than the 5 1 against them last season
-
Cam rested tonight. Tweaked his back.
-
4-1 at FT I think. Man Utd down to 10 after 20 mins.
-
Ended 4-1 ,UTD received a straight red after 20 odd minutes for a late tackle in the area on Wright who calmly put the pen away .Star of the show was Jacob Ramsey with a couple of goals .It was Uniteds first defeat this season Well done Villa boys
-
About time Pravda put up a video of the U23 match last night.
-
U23's lost 3-0 tonight to Exeter.
-
Couldn't be bothered to start a new thread for this, but do we not have any sort of "Old Stars" team at all, any more?
I was idly wondering if I could add to my number of grounds visited by watching them and researched it. None of Villa Old Stars, Former Players' Association or "Lions and Legends" have Tweeted in the last couple of years.
I know they had fallen out but thought that there might be at least one team still playing somewhere. If not, maybe someone could raise this at the next club meeting? It seems good for players' mental health to still be able to play and they also raised a lot of money for good causes.
-
Oh, and for anyone interested, it seems that all, or at least most, of Villa Ladies games are available free via the FA Player app which you can download to your phone.

Aaron Ramsey is our representative in the Guardian's pick of next-gen talents. Previous years have featured James Finnerty and Easah Suliman
https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng-interactive/2019/oct/09/next-generation-2019-20-of-the-best-talents-at-premier-league-clubs

Never heard of Finnerty.

I didn't know there were 2 Ramsay brothers let alone 3.
-
That's one hell of a famous name to carry for an Aston Villa player.
-
Charlton v Villa Women at 3pm is on the FA Player App.
-
Two-up. Melissa Johnson, yet again, and a screamer free-kick from Follis.
-
Three nil, great goal from Johnson. Nine goals in five games for her.

Four-nil. Hat-trick.

Does anyone know when or where we play Exeter at home in the U-23s Cup?
16/01/2020 at the training ground. At the minute the club's policy is to turn fans away if they try to attend youth or reserve team games at Bodymoor Heath.

Our U23s beat Fulham U23s 1-0 tonight at VP. Both Chester & Hause played.

As did Kodjia who was awful.
-
The Under 18s lost 3-4 against Reading at the weekend in the Premier League Cup.
The Under 23s are also playing Reading (away) this evening.

The women came from behind to draw one all with Durham and remain three points clear of them at the top.
-
U23: https://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/2019/october/report-reading-u23-v-aston-villa-u23/
-
In general, coverage of the U23s from the OS or official social media channels is quite frankly absolutely pathetic.
-
Agree Legion the so called coverage of our reserve and youth teams are absolutely pathetic .All we get now if we are lucky is the team line up the half time score if we are lucky and the final score .When we start playing the 7pm kick off games at Bodymoor Heath i fear we will not get even that .Decent point at Reading tonight seeing as Reading played several first team players and good see Cam score again
-
The coverage is just basically non existent. I understand it won’t be of interest to everyone, but for those that are (and you’d think given fans desire to see ‘home grown’ players that it would still be significant) it is absolutely pathetic - especially compared to others clubs output.
-
Cam's goal is now on our FB Page.
-
Luke8, you're right; our club's coverage of the youth players is a disgrace. They don't even seem to want people to turn up and watch their home games!!
-
I notice that our womens team are top of the league, albeit in the 2nd tier. Courtesy of Sky Sports and their current obsession with the womens game and also to have as many current/ex female players reporting on the mens game as they can.
Just wondering if anyone from here has attended any of the games and what the standard is like and what the average attendance is for these games?
-
Can't imagine it's much good.
-
You can watch a few of their games if you download the FA Player App. Watched them away at Charlton and they played well against an admittedly poor team. Some excellent finishes in that game. I think women's football, generally, has at least doubled in standard in the last two decades and is only going to get better.
I keep meaning to get down and watch them in person but their insistence on only playing on Sundays when I'm hung over puts me off. I'd love it if they played on Saturday during the international break.
-
If they scheduled the womens games a few hours before the first team games kick off then it would benefit the game immensely and generate more interest/support than anything else. It seems pretty obvious so I can only assume there must be unknown reasons why this doesn’t happen.
-
You're right KRS. The women are playing Liverpool in the Womens Cup on Saturday. A double header at Villa Park would have been a great advertisement.
-
I've really enjoyed watching the women's team this season. Gemma Davies is doing a great job there. Credit to Christian Purslow also for putting added focus on it.
-
You're right KRS. The women are playing Liverpool in the Womens Cup on Saturday. A double header at Villa Park would have been a great advertisement.
If the women's game had been scheduled at VP after the men's match, I'd certainly have stayed on to watch.
-
You're right KRS. The women are playing Liverpool in the Womens Cup on Saturday. A double header at Villa Park would have been a great advertisement.
And would also have damaged the pitch, and caused a bit of a logistics problem dressing rooms-wise.
-
As UK Redsox mentioned Dave, maybe after the mens game.
-
I’ve been to see the team at Boldmere, they get about 3-400
Standard is fair, some good play interspersed with horrendous individual errors. It’s a great set up there and friendly atmosphere. Lots of opportunities for kids to have their pics taken with players etc.
-
Villa 2 Liverpool 0. Fuck the fuckers.

A Birch and a Tait on our bench. Pleasure and pain :o
-
2-2 at present, 5mins plus to go.
-
Won 3-2, last minute winner from Tait.
-
Was at the reserves match against Newcastle tonight and Villa deserved the 3-2 .They played well and if it was not for several bad misses from Wright and Archer would have had a handsome win .Ramsay took his goal well and the only way the toon could stop him was to do what teams do to Jack and kick him .He had to go off injured eventually it was so bad Well done Villa kids
-
Cam missed one chance. Wright missed over four. No-one really stood out. Cam had a quiet game by his standards but could have done with a bit better service and more awareness of his runs and movement.
-
Wright missed a few chances but in the first half especially He was a constant threat to Newcastle.
I thought Cam had a poor game and it was no surprise when He was taken off. I do like a player who can play a telling pass and Ben Guy always impresses me. He has a special ability to find a defence splitting pass in every game I see him play.
Thought we played very well but James Chester didn't look anywhere near First Team level and I thought Nyland should have stopped their second goal.
Jake Walker was solid at Right Back and Clarke, Ramsey and Guy all very composed in midfield.
Big gap between First and Second Teams now. #levels
-
Cam did have a quiet game by his standards as I have said before, but everyone seemed to have an off-day. Remember that Cam is still only 17 and is the only one of the U23s without a pro contract and plays at that level for an absolute pittance in comparison with all the others. He has played consistently really well for them overall since he got his chance and has shown his potential with his call-up and performance for the 1st XI in the cup game. Kodjia, for example, was absolutely dire when he last played for the U23s. Personally, Guy does very little for me and was previously played as forward but did not produce the goods so was shifted position. Regarding the gap, Clarke is 21, has been playing at U23 level for 3 years but still has not, to my knowledge, been offered a loan deal by a lower league club to get further experience. Hope this provides a little perspective.
-
U23s v Doncaster Rovers at Hednesford Town in the EPL cup.
-
Our pathetic club website can not even be bothered to give you the half time score now.
-
For those who follow the reserves and youth team after 68 minutes we are losing 1-0 to a team who had a man red carded in the first half and we missed a pen. It seems at every level we have no idea against a side with ten men
-
FT 1-0.
-
U23s away v West Ham this evening.
-
Currently losing 4-0.

Well, I went on the site this evening and there was no sign of BH U-23 tickets being up for sale.
Did anyone else try?

Villa U23 v Portsmouth U23 at BMH this evening.
-
Currently winning 2-0 at half-time. Ramsay and Archer with the goals.
-
3-0. Cam with the assist.
-
6-0 at present.
-
From the OS, facebook and Twitter you wouldn't even know there was a game on, let alone that our kids were giving someone a kicking.
-
Yes. Pathetic coverage.
-
Nice new stand I see...great idea.
-
Did some of the folks posting on here actually manage to get tickets for the game? If so, how did they do this, as I can see nothing re booking U-23 tickets for BH on the OS.
-
I think it is open to the first 500 interested.

Anyone know how Villa ladies got on today away at London Bees?

Won 2-1 - They have their own twitter channel (https://twitter.com/AVWFCOfficial) so following the games is a lot simpler than the youth group football where you're normally just staring into the abyss.
-
Cheers Paul and thanks for the link. Our girls are doing brilliant.

U23s in action this evening. Cam not involved as they want him to play for the U18s at Stevenage tomorrow in the FA Youth Cup. He is 18 years old today, by the way.

Thanks Legion, I’ve updated my records accordingly.
It changes things a bit in terms of the youngest debuts list.
The DoB in the match programme put Cam 37th on the list, between Alan Wakeman & Mark Burke.
However with his correct DoB identified, Cam just scrapes into the top 20 at 17 years and 261 days.
Thus pushing teammate Jacob Ramsey into 21st place by 3 days.
It seems a little bit sad that the programme editors have to gamble on googling players details instead of being unable/unwilling to acquire the correct information from within the club.

Vassal state? Is he Greek?

U18s through 4-2 on pens in the FA Youth Cup. No official coverage yet again.
-
Thanks for the news. It's a disgrace that the official site doesn't bring you any news.
-
It is. They did cover the U23s a lot better yesterday.
-
We went on to the Stevenage twitter feed and they gave an excellent running commentary on the noteworthy events from the game.
Ours was non-existent -disgraceful!!

You watch a lot of games at this level mate, your lad apart, any strikers you think could make the step up?
-
He's a former pupil. I think he and Ramsey are capable of making it.
-
He's a former pupil. I think he and Ramsey are capable of making it.
I assume you mean Jacob Ramsey, in which case I'd add his brother Aaron as well. I've not seen much of him but have been told by someone I trust that he is a bit special and that the club are very excited about him.
-
AR was featured in a grauniad article on the most promising young English players earlier this season.
He's very young, so won't be anywhere near the first team for a while.
-
I wouldn't be amazed if he's in the squad for Fulham.
-

Turns 17 early next year I think, so that's not too far short of when you start seeing players get looked at. I suspect it's unlikely though because he's not had many U23 appearances and I suspect they'd want to give him a while at that level before throwing him into the 1st team.
-
Isn't there 3 Ramsey kids on the books?
-
I'm really concerned that there isn't a great deal of talent pushing to come through from the academy or if there is being given a real chance to get a squad place. Looking around at Man U, Chelsea, Spurs in recent years have had a few lads make an impact. We have Jack and not much else.
-
Isn't there 3 Ramsey kids on the books?
yeah, the youngest is about 14 though so he won't be mentioned much for a few years yet.
-
I just remember thinking that if they all came through the ranks we could have 3 of them in the team.
-
U23s are playing at home to Sunderland, about 25mins in, was 3-0 after 8 with 2 for Vassilev and 1 for Cam.
-
4 now, Ramsey with the 4th.
-
Guessing that one of Vassilev or Ramsey could well be on the bench on Wednesday given they have both been taken off after an hour and we only have one fit senior striker available.
-
Ramsey plays in midfield.
-
I've never seen the lad play, but he must offer more than Lansbury.
-
Ramsey plays in midfield.
A valid observation, thank you. I appreciate the obvious bias here, but asking as someone interested in the younger players development/progression but without the required in depth knowledge of the U23 players, have you any idea of the logic of it being Vassilev on the bench on against Fulham when it was Archer earlier in the season at Crewe?
-
No idea at all. It baffled me to be honest.
-
U23s losing 2-1 at Norwich. Cam with our goal then Ben Guy gets sent off.
-
Women in action vs Sheffield United this afternoon.
-
Villa Women win one-nil at promotion rivals Sheff United. Six points clear at the top, now.
-
Went down to the Prozac, as it's only a short walk from home.
Just about deserved it. The winner was a good move finished off by Emma Follis, though she may have just been offside as the ball came in. Shame there's no VAR, eh?
Disappointed that we couldn't pass our way out of defence and so came under pressure for the last twenty minutes. Generally defended well, one cross/shot clipped the bar.
WotM by a mile was the centre-back Elisha N'Dow who was elegant in possession and defended well, too.

They're a very well-drilled and talented team. Gemma Davies is a really promising coach. Excited to see what they can do at the top level next year.

Form I think. I read that Vassilev had been impressing most recently.
-
U18's sadly lost tonight 2-1.
-
We lost an entertaining game 2-1. City had some swagger about them and knocked it around well and were good value for the 2- 0 half time lead.
2nd half we upped the tempo and the game became more end to end. Archer went off and the replacement caused them a lot of problems. We hit the post after a good move and then scored a fine individual goal but it came a tad too late.
For £3 It was a decent game and in a stadium that would put a few league 1 & 2 grounds to shame.
Incredible how the entire area has been developed.
-
Villa Women knocked out the cup by Chelsea too, 3-1.
-
Chelsea looked very well drilled and their new signing Kerr has a good touch . Our ladies can hold their heads high having battled hard. It was mighty cold tonight and my face has only just thawed out

obviously watched the first team sunday

Perhaps they didn't, as they had three good chances to score in the FH -and failed with all of them.
They also hit the bar in the SH and missed yet another 1-on-1 near the end.

Eniola Aluko appointed sporting director of the women’s team. As a seasoned connoisseur of black women, all I can really contribute to the debate is that she’s got a really bad weave for someone who appears on telly and who I would imagine is quite well off.
-
Seems like the women are really going for it, on and off the pitch. Hope they can finish the job and get promoted.

Who gives a fig about her appearance ? Surely her competence for the job doesn't hinge on her bad hair days.

Agreed. Like I said, not knowing if she’s any good or not it’s all I can add. It is surprising though. Black female hair is notoriously expensive to look after well and all the ones I know who can afford it pay a fortune to do so. It’s a bit like Dr Tony’s shoes, but I spend my life almost exclusively around black women rather than white men and they talk about hair a lot. Sorry.
-
I like her hair. Haters gonna hate.
-
I like her hair. Haters gonna hate.
Good for you cd. My wife’s direct debit for her hairdresser is the third biggest bill after childcare then the mortgage, and in hard times every economy has been considered and discussed except that one. I’m just saying that’s obviously not the case in the Aluko household.
-
Maybe you should get together and ask for a bulk discount;)

In the global scheme of things it's a minor development, but with her being such a "name" figure in women's football I see this as a real statement of intent from the club, and another albeit small sign that we now have serious owners.
-
Even the Villa women can't win a friggin FA Cup game! Lost 3-2 at home to Brighton.
-
Ladies lost 3:2 at home to Brighton, very poor in the first half and conceded three preventable goals and looked clearly second best

Dean and O’Kelly both there and very good with photo and autograph hunters

yes, I thought as much after posting it - that said I'd like to think we could put out a team to give Doncaster a run for their money ....can't be great for development if they can't compete - you wouldn't play 12/13 year olds against 16/17 year olds - probably a bad analogy but you know what I mean ;)

That's the problem now - once you're out of under-18s football there's not a lot of chances for game time unelss you're out on loan.

Good point Dave - unfortunately they don't always get game there .... there is no incentive for the club loaning the player to develop them which is a shame for the player ..so it is a "rock and a hard place scenario"
Must be unsettling for an individual .......imagine working for a company in Birmingham and then being told you are going to work for another company in Rochdale " to gain work experience"

A manager once said that if you do take a player on loan you feel obliged to play them regularly, otherwise their parent club won't be so willing to do future deals.

I guess that's why the likes of Klopp insist on their players getting game time and it written into the loan agreement

I'm not even sure it's written into the agreements; it's more of a a mutual benefit thing but I could be wrong.

Yes, we don't appear to be so stringent about enforcing game time.
However, it's been noticeable that our recent loanees to lower league clubs don't start very regularly. This is perhaps indicative of a worrying standard over the past couple of seasons.
Losing 4-0 to Exeter and Doncaster, irrespective of the age range, would also appear to highlight a lack of quality coming through.

Not sure about the strength of junior football in Birmingham as I havnt lived there for over 25 years - but up here on Merseyside (where I gained my FA coaching badges for Junior and Disabled football) I have seen a marked decline in the numbers and quality of youngsters coming into the game - clubs I have been associated are running fewer teams - this is a passionate football city but there is a distinct downturn in youngsters coming to clubs - probably due to kids preferring to play games in their bedrooms rather than get muddy on a football pitch - overbearing parents and coaches don't help either
I no longer coach ( gave up when VCTM discovered birds and booze :)) but watch Saturday morning football whilst out walking the dog - the standard is really quite poor - due in the main to poorly trained club managers/ coaches c`est la vie

Front 3 of Davis, Vassilev and Wright.
Should be interesting.

Lost 0-1.

My first U23 game at the impressive BMH set-up. Sell out crowd of @500 (free tix). Was very cold and noticeable initially how much bigger the Baggies side were physically (especially Brunt...). Some good football from both sides to be fair and Keenan got injured after a challenge with the aforementioned Brunt. Left hamstring...
Cameron A did well when he came on and our right back Kesler had a very strong second half. We hit the woodwork a couple of times (and had a pen saved) but our keeper had to pull off a number of good saves. Albion were 3 points ahead of us before the game and do look the stronger outfit. There set up is/was ahead of ours which is why we are obviously taking some of their staff.
Pitches, stand and clubhouse are all very impressive and can only help attract the best local lads to the club imo.
-
Thank you for the review. Plus our average squad age is 18/19. Theirs is in the 20s.

Thanks Lee, yes that looked to be the case. I've just added in that we missed a pen too which I had forgotten about! I liked the look of Mungo Bridge our CH Captain, made a couple of mistakes but looked good on the ball and recovered well if he lost the ball.
-
Chris Brunt in the u23's? The bloke must be close to retirement with kids old enough to work.

As per the Davis thread, did he walk off ok? and was the challenge a bit of a leveller? Pulls and tears are pretty rare from impact injuries so if Brunt has flattened him it could be as simple as bruising/dead leg rather than anything major and he's come off as a precaution.
-
If I remember right he got a left foot shot across the goal in that hit the post. He was stretching his hammy after that - I think Brunt caught him as he shot - may have overstretched.
-
So he injured himself having a shot that didn't go in. His career so far in one sentence!
-
The Women have signed Austrian Sophie Maierhofer. Think she may be our first international, not sure.
-
Are the women full time, or will they be if promoted?
-
No I don't think so, some maybe, Head coach is head of womens football at Birmingham Uni, top scores is part time teacher. I think they are all sorting out contracts now to get them full time for next season.
-
For those who watch regularly, what are your thoughts on Mungo Bridge (apart from having a great name and the possibility of reusing the old U-gooooo chants!)? I was just reading that he'd been invited to join first team training on a number of occasions this year and Smith really likes him.

I dont understand Hepburn-Murphy playing for Derby's U23s instead of getting big boys football at Tranmere even if he didn't always start for them. He scored for Derby this morning but why not just put him back in our reserves? Unless a pre-contract to join Derby in the summer has been agreed but it's an odd one.
-
If so, I suspect that I will not be the only poster on here to be severely pissed off!!
-
I'm guessing it's for match fitness as he had only played about 20 mins since boxing day.
-
Yeah against Yanited in the FA Cup where he looked decent! Still think there's a player there who should be ahead of Vassilev in the pecking-order.
-
I agree. He's a horribly underdeveloped talent.
-
Hopefully we don't blow that lead.

Ladies were as comfortable as it’s possible to be, played well within themselves and still won at a canter. Could have had double figures if they played with a little more intensity.

I hope so, regardless of which division we're in.
Pity we do not have a DMF youngster who can step up: I thought Doyle-Hayes would be that man, but he seems to have slipped off the radar.

We seem to be doing better with the clubs we are loaning players to this year. Young players getting good game time, in a number of cases at teams towards the top of their league. Good to see.
-
If the women get promoted, will they need to play at another ground?
Feel sorry for Boldmere if they do.
-
I don't see why, it is bigger than the one that top flight Bristol City play at and not far off the capacities of Blose and West Ham's chosen grounds, while Everton seem to just host their games in a park.
-

Yes, to Walsall was the plan I was told, then to Bodymoore.
Boldmere capacity isn’t big enough to satisfy PL requirements.

Ah, Cheltenham Town ... not the greatest place to develop into a Championship player, then. Or, he's in a team that's doing well in its division, and that has to be good experience.
Or, perhaps he'll return and cement himself into the HMF role we desperately need.

I've heard very good things, all the info i get about the kids is from someone who's with the community sport programme and he reckons we have 4-5 around that age that could be top level players, Aaron Ramsey and Philogene-Bidace (JPB) are the other names I remember and there was a young fullback that he was raving about but I can't remember the name. He was raving about JPB when I spoke to him about a month ago, reckons he needs to work on his finishing but that he's got the pace, strength and skill to be in the first team already.
Back on topic Chukwuemeka is very good for his age, big, quick, strong, decent shot and a good passer, not heard of anything that's 'wrong' with his game so it's no great surprise that the rich clubs are looking but he's the sort of player that we need to convince will be better staying and getting game time with us, if we want to develop as Purslow has suggested we can't be losing our best academy players before they even break through.

It's good that there's a group of them. You can add Louis Barry to those names and hopefully Legion's pupil too. If they're part of a group and you can show them a clear pathway into the first team, you're more likely to keep promising young talent.
For those that watch the younger levels, what's happened to Mungo Bridge? He was being linked with Milan and Real Madrid but doesn't seem to be getting talked about in terms of progressing to the first team.

Thanks for the detail, Paul. If nothing else it'll stop my dad asking why we never any effing good kids coming through. :)
Agree with the need to keep players like this.

1 of the group was Archer, not sure how that slipped my mind. He's never mentioned Barry, I assume because of how he came in to the club. Most of the players my mate talks about have been with the club for a few years.
He was a massive fan of Bridge as well but I've not not seen him mentioned for a while. The fullback I'd mentioned is Bradley Burton by the way. I normally hold off on talking about the players he mentions too much until they start playing U23 and I can see them myself because I'm not a fan of using 2nd hand opinions on players. The difference right now is that there's nothing else to talk about in regards to football.

But...what about the integrity of the Leagues..?
-
What is happening about the Women's team? Will they be promoted?
-
Seems likely that the season is over but that hasn't been decided. Seems to me it would be pretty east to expand the top flight, they only play twenty-two games, another four or eight won't kill them.
-
It won't surprise me if we miss out on promotion with the womens team because the season isn't being finished and get relegated with the mens team because the season can't be finished so they use PPG.

Looks incredibly likely. They just announced the FA Women's Championship season is over, "with sporting outcomes to be decided at a later date."

The message this sends is appalling. OK to cancel the women's league but not the men's. Greg Clarke, Garry Hoffman, Rick Parry - just come on out and admit it's all about the money.
-
Academy striker Bradley Young has been stabbed over the weekend. Not life threatening, and a full recovery expected.
-
Women's Team named Champions and promoted, get in. Only right.

Great news but PPG scares me for the mens team
-
Yeah good news, well done ladies and Liverpool relegated.
-
Great news. Well done UTV.

Fantastic news. Congratulations ladies.

Well done ladies, well deserved. Brilliant season.

Yup, my thought as well.
-
The men's season is going to get finished. The money is more important than any lives.
-
Well done ladies. Liverpool being relegated is a lovely bit of icing on top!
-
Well done, totally justified on any level, best team in the league by along way, congratulations UTV

Well done ladies. Liverpool being relegated is a lovely bit of icing on top!
Hope the reverse does not happen.

Will be playing their home games at Walsall's Banks's stadium next season.
-
Boo. Was planning to go to see them and add a ground. Have been to Walsall a few times already. Be nice if they played on Saturdays occasionally, especially when the men aren't playing due to international break. Sunday games are shite cos you can't get too drunk afterwards. Although if I'm still "working" from home it might be okay...

I told you that a few months ago, I'm claiming that as an accurate ITK.
Is it a first?
-
Melissa Johnson, our top scorer, 1 of 8 released !!
-
Surprised at that. Maybe she had another club or couldn't commit to full-time. Thanks for everything anyway Melissa.

Barry is the stand out name on there but I think I've mentioned before I've heard very good things about Burton as well, I think he's one to look out for. Kesler is supposed to be very good as well.
-
Are Myles and Harrison Sohna twins? Just noticing they have the same surname and age. Have we ever had twins play for us?
-
Djemba and Djemba.
-
Very good.
