Surprised Villa haven't taken him on - he has the potential to do very well for himself in broadcasting.

I enjoy the Villa View post match pods with Dan/Tom/Chris but not so keen on the guys who do the match previews or Fancams. I personally prefer and recommend My Old Man Said as well, much more swearing and irreverent and for me more akin to what I want from a podcast. I’ve tried a few others like Jonny Gould, Holtecast etc but they’re nowhere near as good.

I do like Villa on Tour (yooooof!) but it’s not a podcast it’s a YouTube vlog. The three minutes of footage in injury time at Wednesday away was absolutely fucking brilliant.

What's this then?

The Villa View have got the Director's Lounge at VP to record a live podcast this evening. Free tickets for about 300 people were allocated on a first come first served basis. Event is 6:30 'til late I believe, and Sir Brian is also a special guest.

How does that square with being independent?

Villa on tour are good lads, Jamie the ginge is a bit crazy but  so I was at his age.  They have been going everywhere for the past 2 seasons so good  on them.  I know Max is going tonight.

Villa View lads are very knowledgeable about the Villa like a lot of different people on here by and large.

As for the fancams only as good as the people who put themselves out there.  I prefer a pint in the social or the Suite but hey ho.

Villa on tour for me all day long - Proper Villa lads who go away.

I find Villa View a bit smarmy who suck up to the club a bit too much hence the "independent" comment by Dave being valid.

I've had the pleasure of meeting all the Villa View and Villa On Tour and having a few drinks with all of them the one thing I can say about spending time with them is there passion for Aston Villa they have great desire to see Villa back at the top and they are just normal guys with the same interest as us they love Aston Villa Football Club.

I wrote about The Villa View in H&V at the start of the season before last and questioned their independence. I like The Villa View but it never really questions the club or Sky too much (probably because Dan Bardell works for Sky and Tom Julian, from the podcast, used to and appears to still get work from them at times). I did see Dan Bardell and Daniel Rolinson outside Wembley and asked them if they would like to talk to me for a piece in the fanzine. They did seem interested even though I told them about writing that article. I haven't contacted them about it yet though.

i’ve touched on this previously. First came across Villa on tour around the time we embarked on our ten win streak. Never had Foxtel, so couldn’t watch the matches. But the 15-20 minute Vlogs were great to watch as a kind of distilled summary of the whole day. They seem a bit like a brummie version of the inbetweeners- max, ginger jamie and the braces kid. I’d swear they were pilled-up for Wembley. Why wouldn’t you be! Good luck to them for next season

I find the Villa View lads smarmy and a bit cringe tbh. Whilst Max and the Villa on tour lads are great. Especially for his age, he’s barely 18 and going home and away, fair play to him.  David Michael et al from Old Man Said are superb, fully recommend that one.

Villa On Tour would certainly be my preference, Max gives a really fair evaluation of a matchday as a whole and the passion the boys have for the club is simply out of their love for it. As has been mentioned before Villa View, from the very small amount I've seen of it, is a bit too one-sided a view for me and there seemed to be a bit of a "please give me a job" feel about it. May have changed now but I haven't seen the videos or listened to the podcast for a couple of years.

I'm a bit of a ludite when it comes to things like this.  My question is:  will last nights event be available online?  If so, where?  Sorry if this is a stupid question!

I think it they may be putting a version of events online later or in the next few days so it might be worth checking Youtube every so often to see if its up on there.

Just watched the Blues away one while watching the cricket. Good stuff. Nice audible singing of "Zulu Army" from the riff raff when Grealish gets attacked, but of course that guy "isn't representative of Blues fans". 🤣

Big fan of ‘My old man said’ podcast. The Scott Hogan touch count, the odd rendition of “let me hear ya say Savo”. It’s a really nice balance between insightful commentary and pub shit talk.

Got to say Dan Bardell is as Villa as anyone.

Some of the comments on here are like who is the better player (one being a goalkeeper, the other Andy Gray).  The Channels are directed at different angles. Not knocking any of them they are all Villa.

I really like the Villa View and Villa On Tour. Both totally different, but both a great way to spend 10 minutes or so the day after a match.

It's the modern world, the two youth i go with love all this social media stuff. So i'm just glad we have two lots of supporters doing such a good job at it.

have you seen the crowds that NSTAAF and MDWAP can get. The former have played the Sydney Opera House and Hammersmith Apollo

Even RHLSTP regularly gets a couple of hundred

Surprised Villa haven't taken him on - he has the potential to do very well for himself in broadcasting.

Matt Lynch aswell although I think looking at his twitter he's based down in the south now and works for local radio.

Might be worth getting them involved with the official youtube channel to get wider audience as they did some really good sit down interviews with John  Gregory and Brian Little a year or two back.

Wouldn't it better serve villa fans for these guys not to be working for the club, though?

Don't get me wrong, I think the stuff they produce makes a really good contribution to the wider cultural 'clout' of the club and it's a great example of how the traditional media are now getting bypassed. The production values in a lot of their stuff are also very impressive, too, and they're proactively going out there and getting heard.

If they started working for the club, what happens when things aren't going so well? I'd much rather hear them say what they really think than trot out the club line because - directly or indirectly - they are working for them.

Their event the other night made me a little apprehensive in terms of their relationship with the club and whether they're - without necessarily realising it - getting a little too close to them.

If I were Dan Bardell, I'd want to get into paid media work as well. I also think he is very good at what he does, I just think that continuing to do that good work means also being able to be objective.

Things are going well at the moment, but least we forget, this is the Villa, it won't always be thus. The next time things do start to go less then smoothly, I'd much rather have those guys saying what they really think rather then pulling their punches, because they either work for the club or have good relationships with them and are concerned about damaging them.

I do like the Villa View lads, they're pretty honest but generally have a positive view - eg stuck with Bruce for longer than most so I do get the 'independent query'  But the podcasts are pretty good fayre for listening on dog walks or the train.

Villa on Tour are good at capturing the atmosphere of the day - very different but quite entertaining.

I do listen to MOMS podacst, but have to say I find the contributors enormously smarmy and nowhere near as funny as they think they are - but David Michael's heart certainly seems in the right place.  It's ok.

Holtecast is a bit of a struggle to be honest.  I don't mind James Rushton, but paired with that Danny Razza (I think?) it can be a bit of a car crash.  I find it a struggle to get through a whole episode.

The Jonny Gould one features Howard Hodgson.  For that reason alone it's unlistenable.

Keiorn - you said you were attending with your lad - is that Ben OC by any chance?  If so. he does a great job (a young Villa vlogger) and you should all give him a follow.

I just want to see good Villa content on social media tbh. The Villa youtube channel has improved a lot last few years and love the interviews with the old players like JPA and Dublin. Would say though the sit down with John Gregory on Villa view is easily the best Villa related interview I've seen in last few years.

Pretty sure Villa view was going during 15/16. Now we're back in prem I imagine things will be ramped up more so we'll need some full time media presenters as Jack Woodward was never replaced due to the cutbacks after relegation.

I don't mind Villa on tour and do enjoy some of the mad goal celebrations from the aways. Just find it a little odd now during the nervous moments at end of games you'd just be streaming the game. It's a  little like when we get a penalty and half the stand holds their mobiles up to capture it.

No mate, different Ben.

By the way, I've seen my name spelt many different ways in my 43 years but you've just given me a new one to add to the list, nice one! ;)

Like them both as they're different.  Villa on Tour is like a fans view, whereas Villa View is more like a journalistic channel (in fairness I think Dan has said in the past that they dont want it to be one of those rent-a-gob channels like Arsenal Fan TV.

I like Villa on Tour as it reminds me of when I was that age and the great times me and my mate used to have, especially when we went away.  We always seemed to have a great laugh even when we'd just watched us beaten again after playing some of the worst football ever seen.  The hurt was always there though, but we managed to laugh through it which made the good times when they arrived all that much better.

I love the Villa View. I can't imagine a world without it now.  My Old Man is the other decent one I always listen to. I quite like the footage you see in the Villa on tour. Max the host was opposite me on a train coming back from a game two seasons ago before i ever saw his podcast so I'm remembering thinking I'd seen him before.

I like both of them and there are quite a few youngsters doing match Vlogs which are very good and make for a very entertaining Sunday morning, especially if we've won on the previous day.
