The great Ron Saunders appointed. The rest is history

And York City away his first game. It got better sure the second away was Hull.

I think SGT's second away game was at Hull too.

Was that the one he missed because of his daughter's graduation?

2 of Ron's first 4 league games were against Hull. They were our second away game and 8 days later our second home game. And the home game was Ron's first win as Villa manager, we'd drawn the first three 1-1.

I was at York that day - A half decent following went, given the lethargic atmosphere around the place. The end of the Vic Crowe era had seen gates plummet after the FA Cup heroics against Arsenal and by the time we hammered Hull in Saunders first win, the attendance was under 20,000. It was the Chester semi-final in January that really was the catalyst for enthusiasm and support to be reignited.

Was that York game a night game in the league cup ?
or am I confused, the York game I remember , I think we lost 1-0 and there was barely a handful of Villa fans there.

The League Cup game was the previous season.
