At whatever level you're playing, ten wins on the bounce is a remarkable achievement. After a decade of breaking all the wrong club records, it's great to have one to be proud of.  Well done, Dean and well done the players.

Well done record breakers.  i thought it was a comfortable victory without hitting top gear.  A quieter game for Jack and SJM but they come to the party when it's really needed.  Mings was excellent, Jedinak was solid enough, with his usual couple of lapses but we got away with them, ditto Steer.  El Ghazi caused problems throughout, Green was bright when he came on.  Another clean sheet, 10 on the bounce and I think that's us safely in the play offs and putting pressure on other teams. Well done Dean Smith.  I hate Millwall.

Ten in a row, what can you say, absolutely astonishing, brilliant simply that, well done Aston Villa, as for the game have to say it, thought we did just right, it was always going to be difficult, awkward, got across the line in the end to make it TEN, bloody marvelous, let's hope QPR and Forest can pull something out the hat to make this even more unbelievable.

Interestingly, we have played better against the better sides too.  Rotherham and Millwall performances were professional but not at the heights of the Derby, Boro, Forest or Bristol City games.

That table is a bit misleading as it shows games played for other clubs for the games kicking off at 3pm, so it's a copy of the BBC 'as it stands' table. However we could be guaranteed 5th by 5pm.

10 in a row is unreal. Drink it in because it will probably never happen again in any of our lives.

I think it's good that we're creating lots of chances but not quite taking them all yet. We're saving a hammering for Albion in the play offs hopefully.

Thought the atmosphere was disappointing and very flat considering we were about to win ten in a row. It's almost like we've forgotten how to create a good atmosphere at home games.

Maximum points if they won all remaining games including today, I think is

Boro 76
Bristol C 78
Derby 76

Derby and Bristol play each other so one of them isn't doing it.

Forest 1 up and Sheff Weds 2 up.

No they can't.

Bristol City can get to 78 but would need to beat Derby to do it.
Derby can get 76 but would need to beat Bristol City to get it.

Those 2 can't both happen and the state of goal differences means it's highly unlikely we could finish below both of them.

Add to that Boro can get to 76 points so need 3 wins.

As it stands Boro not winning means we're guaranteed the playoffs, if either Derby of Bristol City drop points (as they're both doing) then we're pretty much guaranteed 5th.

The funny thing is we're currently getting 5th based on results for MoN and Bruce.

I think that's how it'll turn out regardless, Leeds have the harder run in. Both have Ipswich, both have an average midtable team today but the other games are Leeds playing us and Sheffield U playing Stoke, the latter is a much easier game than needing to beat a team that's just won 10 in a row.

Thoroughly professional performance with a couple of scares thrown in for good measure.
Jack and Mings controlled the game and with some clinical finishing we could have had 6.
How many more times are we going to play against a goalie who decides that today is the day he will be channeling Gordon Banks ?

The only thing that continues to feck me off is that shit fucking song over the PA at the end of the game. I fucking hate that song. It prevents the fans singing or chanting anything else while they wait for that shit fucking chorus to come round and by then the players are on their way off.

Why is it always the way that visiting teams' goalies have worldie performances against us?! But for him it would have been a more comfortable win. As it would have been if we'd had Tammy instead of Kodjia - yes he scored one, but fluffed another when their defender put him through one on one with the keeper, and in the second half he tried a spectacular curler with the outside of his foot from a ludicrous angle when SJM was stood on the six yard line for a tap-in. Steer had one to save in the first half but other than that their attempts at scoring were pretty poor and you can see why they are where they are. But job done with another professional performance to make history on a beautiful day.

I think we are already guaranteed 5th.

If we don’t pick up any more points we will finish of 75.
If things stay as they are now:-
The only team who can get to 75 is Bristol but they will need to win their last 3 games. The only way they can go above us it to score about 15 goals in those 3 games.
So we are ‘nearly’ guaranteed 5th place.

Another professional and well managed performance. The only thing that concerns me is how many chances we waste by not being clinical...I hope this is addressed in the playoffs as we can't afford to be so wasteful in front of goal, but 1-0 is quite a poetic scoreline for 10 wins on the bounce...and the promotion juggernaut goes marching ON, ON, ON, ON, ON, ON, ON, ON, ON, ON!!!

All the results going our way...expect Derby just scored from a dodgy as fcuk penalty to make it 1-0 against QPR.

Playoff spot confirmed, but thanks to QPR being fuckin useless and conceding 2 goals in additional time then 5th is not guaranteed.

Derby still have to play Bristol (A) and Baggies (H) so would be surprised if they take 6pts from those 2 games, and their game in hand is against Swansea (A). They need to win all 3 to take 5th place from us.

Jeez, a result like that could really give Derby belief in the final straight.

We've hammered them twice this season, but I'd still rather see Pulis' lot in there than Lampard's.

Lampard is a thinker, Pulis will just bring in more shitehouses with long throws.

The magic 10 has been achieved, just think in another 100 years time, fans will still be talking about the great class of 2019.

Result never in doubt despite the scoreline, good to see Kodj scoring, although less said about, the chance he missed having done all the hard work, the better. Mings probably MOTM superb once again and no card for SJM, I expect/hope he will now be rested until the play offs.

Great tribute at half time to the Villa family, who have passed away this season.

I don’t get out much, so here are my remarks.

Absolutely loved Jedinak today.

I especially enjoyed the way Millwall’s players bounced off his chest and landed in a heap. Reminded me of George Curtis.

How El Ghazi didn’t score is a mystery.

How Davis and Green didn’t score is a travesty.
Should we buy their goalkeeper?

Loved Kodjia’s goal after what had gone before. Kismet.
The bit when he beat about 5 or 6 defenders in the box before the shot shows how much confidence is part of an individual performance.  Beaten by a very good goalie.

Loved the play from JMG, SuperJack and Glenn Whelan, who was constantly picking up the odd ball from defence just in front of the dugouts and then making something happen.

Mings is brilliant. (So who have Bournemouth got?!)

Neil Taylor is better when overlapping. Albert was not having a brill time today.
Subs came on when I thought they should, and made an impact.

Deano is absolutely ever present. Changed personnel when it was needed and the tempo and the attack responded ( second half).

The final whistle took me by surprise and we have a new record!  The best kind!

Whacko!

Agree with this, although I think neither Davis nor Green will score many.

They both did well, but came on when Millwall were stretched as they had had taken off a defender and rejigged. El Ghazi is getting more consistency and is using his pace and skill to better effect.

I was surprised how well David Martin played (Alvin's son), as he's not the first choice and I remember the howler that recently cost them a place in the FA Cup semi.

Despite the narrow margin of victory, it was quite comfortable as they offered precious little in the second half.

I can see Mings as PotM and endorse that wholeheartedly. What a cracker, today.

Otherwise,
I really enjoyed what Jedinak was doing. I know there were one or two wild passes into the stands, but the guy is really dangerous to oncoming players who get anywhere near him.

He is the last line of defence and plays that way, so I suppose he’s a bit er, unreconstructed.

He was effective in stopping, which is is the ultimate assessment.
That’s his game and he does it.

With extreme prejudice.

I must admit, I thought Deano brought the subs on when Millwall had managed to play to negate the match to the point when the entire ground was completely quiet!

If I was being very picky the only downside is that having the score kept low by great goal keeping displays is becoming a habit, to the extent that it probably says more about our finishing. I don’t think Martin or O’Leary are particularly good keepers.

The Villa/Millwall game while never "a classic" was very difficult to see which of the teams was "flirting with relegation*" and which was Premier bound. Villa should be wary - might make Huddersfield look like Man City.

Went to the game earlier, but only just able to post.  Pretty much like a number of the performances over the past few weeks.  Started brightly, had a minor wobble, but you always felt we were going to come on strong in the second half.

Could have been a much bigger winning margin had it not been for a number of instinctive saves by their keeper in the second period.  Just think we need to tighten up a bit all over the pitch and with the play off position all but secured, the next two games should be decent enough tests to do that.

Agree entirely. For many of the saved shots against Bristol and Millwall the ball was put where a good reaction save kept it out, but when a good strike would have put it out of reach of the goalie.

Agree x3. Our poor finishing has been a growing concern for me, and I just hope it doesn’t come back to haunt us in the playoffs. We are playing some beautiful football and creating plenty of chances, but we need to be a lot more clinical in front of goal and put teams to the sword. Dean has mentioned this in a couple of post match interviews so I’m hopeful that it will be addressed and they’ll be working on finishing in training.

You could edit a ten part series of away goalkeeper saves in front of the Holte this season.
It's largely fine in the current run of picking up the points we need, but in the play-offs there's a massive difference between a 1-0 and 3-0 first leg lead. If we're going to play at home first, we need to be absolutely clinical and make the second leg largely irrelevant.

the goals dried up at just this point last season - we need to be clinical to get through regardless of who we play. Having said that, it seems churlish to criticize after making history.

What a momentous achievement, 10 wins in a row.

I've seen some highlights and we could and should have won by more. The more pleasing things in the winning run is that we aren't conceding many goals now, while we have half a dozen players at any one time who look like they could score.

Long may it continue.

I've got to give credit to some of the Millwall supporters for yesterday.  Had a few beers with a group of the at All Bar One at New Street Station, a large group we ended up on a train carriage to Witton with who were talking to my young nephews about football, and the group who were talking to my nephews when they were bit intimidated at the noise as we were in with a large group of their fans at Witton Station heading to VP. Also was glad to see their fans applaud at half time for those that have represented our club who have passed during the last year.

I know they have a reputation, but from my experience yesterday I can only say positive things.

Yep, at Milwall away earlier this year I got chatting to a fair few groups of their fans at a pub near London Bridge and they were pretty pleasant to talk football to.

One shook my hand and said "Nice to meet you mate, keep an eye out for me - I'll be in the corner giving you shit for 90 mins!"

As for the game, it should have been 3-4 if not for some poor finishing.  We have been very wasteful recently and I hope that doesn't become a problem during the playoffs. Played very well overall with some nice passing and movement (except throw-ins...), defended well although at times we managed to put ourselves under unnecessary pressure.

Well done to the team on an excellent achievement in a decade of mostly breaking unwanted records.

Whatever we think of some of those individuals and their performances over their time at the Villa, every single one of them will be remembered fondly for being part of the Villa team with the longest winning streak in our history.

Agreed. I’ve been at all the games home and away (except the 2013 FA Cup tie) against Millwall and haven’t seen a single incident at any one of them. One of the great myths of football is that they’re all violent lunatics. Like most clubs back in the day they had a bunch of idiots, but these days their following home and away is very small and largely law abiding. In fact, having lived in SE London and Kent for years I’ve seen first hand what fantastic work they do with  their various community schemes and football schools etc. No problem at all with Millwall, prefer their fans to the ‘Jonny come lately’ followers of Chelsea, Arsenal et al any day!

I sold just down from the away end yesterday. No problems at all. All those who spoke to me were sound.

We went past you in our taxi. You were crossing the road by Tesco around half ten. I think it was you anyway.

The two blokes who bought H&V in error and them came back were both very polite

The big lads all come out of retirement for their big FA cup ties and Wembley outings.

Two coaches parked in front of where I was selling opposite the church and their fans alighted there. My mate has often questioned the wisdom of letting away fans off in this location and letting them walk past the Holte, and when he came along later and saw the now empty coaches parked up he questioned it again. “Bloody hell, they even let MILLWALL off there?!”

“Yeah, but they weren’t lads” I said, “just normal fans”.

He replied “Bloody hell, what a chance to batter them, why didn’t you phone me?”

He was kinda joking.

That would be correct. I'd just popped in there after chatting to CT and his posse.

As well as big and well-built.

Dominated the game and were never under threat. We really ought to have put it to bed.

Thought we had a lot space second half as they dropped deep and again, we created a lot of good chances and should have scored more.

Green gave us more energy second half and Millwall were deep and compact. Our crossing was a bit wayward, but all in all a comfortable day.

Great to see a packed home end again for the 3rd game running.

I understand our owners (and one of their daughters!) were in attendance.

I felt we were playing within ourselves for most the game and even so could have had 4 or 5 goals to show for our dominance. Greene did add more energy but his crossing is awful. He took his volly shot well, had he hit it with the same accuracy as his crossing it would have ended up in the net.
Our target now has to be 15 league wins in a row.

First 20 minutes felt a bit like a pre season game, the atmosphere, the weather & our 2nd gear start.
Always felt like we were holding back a little but should have buried them second half, I just hope we can be clinical when we need to be especially if we are home in leg 1 of the semi.
Green really livened things up in the right when he came on for Albert who really didn’t see a lot of the ball, Davis also added something upfront as well.

Jedi made a couple of errors but made up for one of them with an absolutely brilliant tackle to win the ball back when all looked lost.

Good day out in the sun, Villa Park is a great place to be lately.
