My question is:

If Bolton forfeit the 3 points, does that count as 9 wins in a row?

Time to rest a number of players including McGinn and Abraham. Should be winning this easily if the game actually goes ahead.

------------Steer
Elmo, Tuanzebe, Mings, Taylor
------------Whelan/Lansbury
--------Grealish, Hourihane
Green, Davis, El Ghazi

Sort of agree with resting McGinn.  Not arrogant in the slightest but the bigger picture. Provided Grealish is back obviously.

Think it'll be a comfortable 3-0

As long as that's what the EFL did, cancellation is the best thing for Villa.

No time to be resting anyone yet. Play our strongest team, get the points in the bag, secure our playoff spot and take it from there.
I’d bring Mings back for Jedi and and replace Whelan with Jack (Hourihane keeps his place because of his goal last week).

Away win 3-0

We can't take this game lightly after Rotherham, but it's very tempting to rest McGinn, particularly with the yellow situation and how much ground he covers.

6-0 Villa win.*

Lampard claimed Derby could have had double figures against them the other day so why not. An early goal and they know they're relegated. I'd go with our strongest team, at least in the first half. Thereafter we can see who needs/deserves a rest.

*I'm on a roll with Villa predictions and only one Villa goal out in every game.

Rest no one. They can rest when they retire! A banana skin of a game, one to learn from recently is Rotherham where we struggled to beat a poor side. Think of them like Bolton Munich and do it all very professionally.

I don't think we should be resting anyone because the job is not done yet. Let's get the points we need then think about leaving one or two players out.

1-4 to us though. Holdsworth to blaze over the bar for them.
Title: Re: Bolton Wanderers v Aston Villa - Pre Match Thread
Post by: KRS on April 18, 2019, 07:10:49 AM
We're not there yet and with 4 games to go the most important thing is focus on taking 6pts from Bolton and Millwall. No room for complacency and not the time to be resting our best players. SJM to play and Mings to come straight back in alongside Axel, however take the opportunity to hook a few players if we're winning comfortably.

0-4 Villa

They may well get a lift from the gloom that has been Ken Anderson. I read his latest note yesterday to their fans (presumably for their programme) and wow. Off his pickle!

Professionalism and focus is needed. There's a good chance we could have the Play Offs tucked up tight by 3pm on Monday, but only if we're respectful of the opposition and work harder than them. Basically do what we have been doing.

An early goal please.

Steer

Taylor
Mings
Tuanzebe
Elmo

Hourihane
McGinn

El Ghazi
Grealish
Green

Tammy

From his press conference, it appears Dean also has one eye on catching Baggies so very much doubt resting players at this stage is in his mindset and will only consider hooking SJM once or if he hits 14 bookings (which I completely agree with).

My ideal scenario for the last 4 games would be wins against Bolton and Millwall for the magic 10 on the trot. Draw against Leeds away to get rid of the run as it could become an albatross going into the playoffs, then back to winning ways against Norwich setting us up for the playoffs.

Put ourselves in Bolton’s shoes, which conceivably could have happened, before the cash injection from the new owners. As supporters, you’d like to believe that the players would fight tooth and nail. But I suspect the reality would have been, they’d have gone out with a highly paid whimper.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Bolton get a clogging off Villa.

We need the 3 points, and they are there to be taken. A professional performance, respecting the opposition will get us that result. That is what a Dean Smith team is most likely to achieve.

If we are keep our eye on the prize, we are best placed to get it. Incredible, if you think back to eight games ago.

Bolton’s new owner, by a Watford fan. I’m sure they will find it reassuring. Poor bastards.

“He talks the talk and he will promise you everything you want to hear, but it's all phoney I'm afraid. There's no substance to any of it. It became ludicrous in the end.

No doubt he'll come out with statements that he made mistakes at Watford and lessons learned etc, but a leopard does not change its spots.

As a Bolton fan, you will quite rightly hope he'll be decent and genuine and will give him the benefit of the doubt until proved otherwise. We had the same reservations but he was given every chance to prove himself, but it became clear very early on he was a chancer.

I'm amazed he's got back in football. I'm amazed the EFL would ever sanction him. He was banned for 3 years because of his dishonestly.

He was made bankrupt twice, and even changed his name from Bazini to Bassini to hide the fact he'd been bankrupt.

When interviewed, he acted like a child, trying to make up stories about events, which even with the greatest deal of naivety, anyone could see through.

He's referred to as the red helmet because our local paper, The Watford Observer, often used the same photo of him with a red builders hard hat. He got so annoyed that he threatened to sue the paper for using the same photo. So, of course, they used it even more.

You'll get used to that. He threatens to sue everyone one. He threatened to sue SkySports News as well for another trivial event.

Even the late Graham Taylor fell out with him, and called him a liar, for making up reasons for not attending a fans forum, which he did more than once. Of course, he threatened to sue GT as well. You can see a common theme here.

I wish Bolton all the best, but this guy will take you into the mire. He's really bad news. A total fantasist who has delusions of grandeur.

He wants a football club as a status symbol, so he can show his family he's not a total idiot.

My only advice is, of there is a way to stop him from taking over, take it. He's hard to get rid of. Watford were in a real mess when he left and only avoided administration and a points deduction by the skin of their teeth. The Pozzo's settled all debts and paid the HMRC. Bassini hid a lot of dept from our new owners too, so they withheld a payment for the Red Lion pub, which was part of the settlement deal. Of course Bassini sued the Pozzo's and of course lost the case, as he always does”

Ultimately whilst we got lucky, being able to pick up a football club in England, that has the ability to be turned into a fixture in the top 10 of the Premier League, for dirt cheap money is too good to miss. I’d say only Leeds of the other clubs in our position have anything like that potential.
