Getting interesting.
-
It’s on!
-
Fingers crossed...
-
Nice
-
Very good. Game management excellent as I wanted at half time. Defence brilliant. Hause immense despite some melts having a dig. We've got the "mo"
-
I was convinced our season was over a couple of weeks ago.
In it big time now!
-
I said win the next 3 and I might change my mind, 2 down and 1 to go.
-
I love you Villa!!
-
Great result, excellent. Beat Boro and I will start to think it could happen. Three wins on the bounce is fantastic

Melts ?
-
Marvellous, this is much better.
-
We go 6th with a win Saturday. No games for Bristol and Derby this weekend
-
Onwards and upwards
Wait until Henri returns (winky smile)
-
Nicely done.
Hope springs eternal.
So much for the Ides of March .
-
Hondootedly, Martin O'Nayl, pubehead, delighted you asked that, nobody knows anything, Derry Girls, soda bread, wheaten bread, month of March, hard taym to bayt, Nottingham Forest run Forest run 1 Aston Villa 3. UTV!
-
Table as it stands
(https://i.ibb.co/cXrg2DJ/Screenshot-46.png)
-
We will win games with that mid 3. The McGinn suspension could be a blessing, he looks like he's on full charge again. If this is the Villa of Nov/ Dec we have a chance as other results seem to going our way.
-
It's getting a bit tasty now. We could do this.
-
In terms of play-off hopefuls we have now had three six pointers on the spin against Derby, Blues and Forest and won them all. Boro at the weekend and Bristol City and Wednesday still to come. We can do this.
-
Job done, slowly slowly catch a monkey, getting there, stunning result, Jack has such an impact on the side, we have one of the best players in the country in Jack, go into the next one, vital we get another good result and we really are stamping our authority on the play offs, what a summer this could be.
-
Best performance for months.
Mings is just fucking majestic. McGinn and Jack are like salt and pepper, they just go together.
I still worry that any of our 3 or 4 wide players don’t offer anywhere near enough, with Green disappearing for most of that second half.
Given where we were 4 games ago, dare we dream?
-
I enjoyed the match.
-
Brilliant. It was nice feeling comfortable even at 2-1. Mings and House were excellent.
Super John McGinn was outstanding.
-
Looking quite rosey now. What a difference a couple of weeks can make.
Axel on his way back too!
-
This is getting fucking exciting.
-
Hondootedly, Martin O'Nayl, pubehead, delighted you asked that, nobody knows anything, Derry Girls, soda bread, wheaten bread, month of March, hard taym to bayt, Nottingham Forest run Forest run 1 Aston Villa 3. UTV!
To be sure! (apologies for any offence taken by anyone with Irish connections).
-
A very intelligent and controlled away performance.
-
Boro lost at home.
-
Villa till I die! That was messy but get in

My mom's from Coalisland so I'm allowed to. :-)
-
Yes, very controlled second half, almost professional !
Is it juvenile for me to have wanted SJM to go up to that animal in Forest's defence (Benatwat I think) after the final whistle and ask him what the score is ?
-
Brilliant performance, most compact without the ball I've seen all season. Very impressed with Green tonight and thought Hourihane was very good. McGinn fired up after being dropped, superb. Kudos to Smith, team looked really well drilled tonight. Everyone did well, Abraham didn't have the greatest second half maybe but Smith hooked him.
-
I hate missing games. Delighted with the result. We are going to make the playoffs and not one of those teams, whoever it is will want to face us.
-
Excellent result. Can't fault any one out there today...good performances all over the pitch even if we seem to lose grip at times. Job done and the promotion juggernaut rolls onto Boro at the weekend. Well done you Villa boys!
-
The Foreat fans gave up after 80 mins.
-
Leave Derry Hirls out, it’s ace! 🤣
-
Fantastic Villa, great result, Mings and Hause excellent, SJM superb.
UP THE VILLA
-
Super Villa
Thought Green did well first 60 mins
SJM unlucky to get his hat trick
V solid at the back. Ming’s was superb
Grealish majestic as usual
Life is just much sweeter when we are winning, and winning well
It’s on!
-
Bristol City dropped two points at home to Ipswich last night and tonight Derby dropped two points at home to Stoke. Add to that defeats tonight for Boro, Small Heath, Hull and obviously Forest along with our three points this evening it has been a very good midweek for us.
-
Up to 8th and just 2pts behind Derby in 6th place playoff spot. Win against Boro and we're 1pt behind 5th place...and with both Bristol and Derby not playing, we'll be 6th. The promotion juggernaut is on its way! :)
-
It’s all coming together!
-
Chuffed with the win and performance, we look so solid at the back at the moment and a threat going forward. Good subs from the gaffer, happy Kodjia came on for Tammy who didn't have a good game.
Onwards and upwards.
-
2 cruicial home games coming up. Win those two and I think it will be in our own hands. The difference since Jack came back is unbelievable. We are the Villa of November/early December again.
-
The Foreat fans gave up after 80 mins.
Because their team did!
-
Great result Villa boys! 3 out of 3; we have to keep the winning run going. It's great to get one over the quitting duo of pubehead and keane! UTV!
-
Get the fuck in.

I am partially Irish and offended but accept your apology.
-
Three massive points. I'm only looking up the table. The best thing is there's so much more to come from us between now and the end of the season. Can't knock the effort, everybody did a job. Onwards and upwards.
-
A comfortable win despite not playing that well is a good thing as it builds momentum. I did think we were in a rush to give the ball away at times tonight but defended really well. Mings and Hause were outstanding.
-
6 wins more wins will practically guarantee play off place.
-
Pubehead, what's the score? Judas, Judas what's the score?
-
I really thought the season was over. It’s a funny old game....
-
6 wins more wins will practically guarantee play off place.
Really? I hope you are right.
-
Super result, fully deserved.
Thought the third goal was justice for a fucking awful tackle on Jack.
I believe this season is getting exciting again!!
-
Fuck yes!
Aston Villa ❤️
Super John McGinn 💚
The fucking playoffs 💖
-
I thought we were terrific (as MON used to say). Got back into it quickly after going a goal behind early and we could and should have scored more than we did. Another three points before the international break would be superb.
-
Great win. Well done Smithy and the boys.
-
Lovely stuff. It’s possible if we can keep the momentum going 🤞
-
Bad start, lucky goal for Forest but comfortable and in control after that. Looking good. UTV
-
Whete would we be if jack, mings and steer had played all season.
-
Lovely play from Lolley for their goal. I'd love to see him, Jack and SJM in the same side.
After their rather lucky goal, again, I honestly can't remember Steer having a proper save to make. We had a couple of hairy moments but I thought we defended well enough overall and I like the attitude of taking a booking if they really need to. Tammy was poor tonight but as soon as he went off, you can see what he brings to the game in keeping the ball up front instead of us hammering it into space for Kodjia to chase. Jack and SJM are a class apart. Hourihane played well and has hopefully returned to being really useful instead of a hologram. Mings and Hause are ace. Good win Villa. Good subs too.
-
Smith out.
-
Super result, fully deserved.
Thought the third goal was justice for a fucking awful tackle on Jack.
I believe this season is getting exciting again!!
That tackle was a disgrace, it was liked he slowed up so he could kick Grealish.
Cracking delivery from Hourihane, in off the rod it seemed from Hause
we only looked like adding to our lead after that
-
I wasn't impressed by Kodjia when he came on. He needed to run his socks off, not amble around. Either he's a busted flush or he doesn't care.
-
Smith out, Hause is rubbish, no chance of the play-offs - where are the people who said this only recently ??
-
Beat Boro and we have beat goal difference outside top 4. Opens up 2nd available play off place for us and other chasers as the pack thins out.
-
Whete would we be if jack, mings and steer had played all season.
Steer should not let 1st goal in. He also has a habit of dropping ball from shots and catching at 2nd attempt. I think Kalinic should be back in goal.
-
O'Neil very magnanimous in defeat. 3 comments from his interview.
Very good Villa side
Villa a re a strong side
But Villa are very good so you have to wonder why they are there in the first place
-
Smith out, Hause is rubbish, no chance of the play-offs - where are the people who said this only recently ??
They're here and changed their mind...it's kinda allowed.
-
Disagree. I thought the goal was unlucky as it’s totally not meant, and steers communication appears better than any of the other options. For me, he stays in.
-
The sort of game the old Villa would have definitely lost. A mouth ex-manager, a fired up Forest team, 'After The Lord Mayor's Show' syndrome: Chuffed to bits and proud of them tonight. Great result at a very difficult place.
Well bloody done Villa!
-

McGinn so, so close to a hattrick too. Fantastic!
-
Wouldn’t drop Steer

Tremendous
-
Are we at last turning the draws into wins?
-
Fair play to smith signing mings and Hause in January they’ve been quality and I would say the main reason we’re in with a chance.
-
Keep everyone fit and we should make the top 6.
-
Wouldn’t drop Steer
Came off his line and cleared a few dangerous crosses tonight
None of those other idiots we had in goal this year did that
wasnt quick on his feet for the first alright, seemed to slip a bit, similar to one Kalinic let in recently
That aside, Ive liked all Ive seen from Steer so far, defenders seems to trust him too, another big change.
thought the Forest keeper was rubbish tonight in comparison, 6ft 8 man mountain bottled coming out for Hourihane's cross
-
Absolutely Magnificent.
Looked forward to it for days.
Jack, Mings, King McGinn, all infact we’re great. We’ve clicked at just the right time. I fancy us and Albion in the play off final with us beating the blades 4-0 over 2 legs.
-
Pantomime has always been shit though.
-
Whete would we be if jack, mings and steer had played all season.
On current form, probably already promoted.
-
Pantomime has always been shit though.
oh yes he is

Shame he didn't feel more magnanimous when he left us at the worst possible time having blown a fortune on average players like Marlon F Harewood and swapping Cahill for Zat F Knight.
-
I wasn't impressed by Kodjia when he came on. He needed to run his socks off, not amble around. Either he's a busted flush or he doesn't care.
took a while to settle but nearly scored with a chip and also set up McGinn for the chance at end with a nice back heel
Im not a Kodjia fan but thought he did fine

Fair play to you Aftab Guevara Lynch, always better to be the bigger man. ;)
As for the playoffs, beat Boro and then we're sucking diesel.

Isn't smith not particularly involved in the signings? Isn't that the sporting director's role?
What a difference a few makes make. I'd put us favourites for the last playoff spot now, derby are a busted flush, and would you bet against us against any of the others?
-
Good to have a little bit of momentum. John McGinn and Jack are the difference. Bring it on.
-
Actually much better Sky highlights that us foreign types can see off Twitter

The Ides of March is the 15th, not the 13th!
-
It's on, like Fat Pat's thong.
-
Thought Taylor had his best game for some time and linked up well with those around and in front of him.
Been discussing via text with one of my sons what happens when Chester and Tuanzebe are fit. For me, it's Tuanzebe and Mings in the middle with Hause at left back, he's a better option overall then Taylor. Chester would have to be on the bench.
-

A superb reference and there's not enough Thick of It on this site.
Rest of the league is about to wake up and smell the cock

Good man O’Laftab
-
Went to the local to watch the match to be told that the locals wanted to watch a trivial Champions League match. So I had to settle for listening to the more important match on my phone while watching the kickabout . Do these people not realise what city they live in?
A successful night all round though. In Deano we trust. I can dream now of Jack and John tearing Premier League teams apart next season. Hopefully the dream can become reality now.
-

Good win tonight and thought we were excellent in the opening stages of the game, but have to agree about our lack of quality down the flanks. Taylor, Elmo, El Ghazi, Adomah and Green look so poor at times, especially when compared to the likes of Mings, Grealish and McGinn.
That said, we've had a pretty comfortable win away at a form team and will go into the game on Saturday in good form.
-

I thought Tuanzebe had gone back as he is due to be out for the rest of the season?
-
Just got back. Sat with my Villa supporting mate and his friend, in the opposite home stand to the away fans. Good to see the Villa boys enjoying themselves so much.
A very good performance all round. Fluke goal for them, and apart from the last few minutes of the first half and the start of the second, they didn't really threaten much. Mings continued his impressive performances, and Hause was comfortable too. McGinn was class, and just denied his hat trick by the width of the post.
-
Nope, back in training with us.
-
Out in Tenerife for the week arsed holed, signing full repertoire of villa songs and happy come on you lions.
-
Looking good.

Should point out to you both that John was not dropped - he was suspended 2 games
-
Looks like team spirit.

-
The celebrations at the end in front of the fans lasted quite a while. Seems to be a brilliant team spirit at the moment.
-
Just back via Stoke.
We were a cut above Forest all night.
Bar 25 minutes in the first half where it got scrappy, we were generally excellent. Passed and moved it well, disrupted them and harried them off the ball, to a point where they were limited to long ball rubbish.
2nd half was a masterclass in game management. Never under any threat.
Silly goal to concede, Steer at fault, but Lolley should not be getting that far.
Mings a colossus. He's making a huge difference.
Brilliant atmosphere in the away end. What a glorious chance we have now.
-

Same here, I’ve been saying this about Lolley for weeks, especially after ripping Albion’s defenders to shreds and being one of us to boot too 👍
-
It says a lot about the Villa that my immediate reaction to the third goal was 'ah shit I've got hope again'.
-
Keep everyone fit and we should make the top 6.
nailed on
-
Could this be our Sheff U moment from last season?
We played worse up there, admittedly.
But that win felt like a major turning point and we visibly grew in confidence from that point on.
-

Why did he come on as a sub v Blues then. Break has done him world of good. Refreshed for run in.
-
We’ve got our mojo back. UTV.
-
I'd definitely like to see Lolley in a villa shirt
As would he I imagine
If we did go up I reckon it would be almost a nailed on signing
-
Keep everyone fit and we should make the top 6.
It really is that simple.
Had we had JG fit all season and the current central defence we'd be top of the league.
-
Why did he come on as a sub v Blues then. Break has done him world of good. Refreshed for run in.
I could be wrong but I think that was because we'd just won a match 4-0 and Whelan had played well in that match. Certainly well enough to keep his place.
-
Great result. This is better than our previous two wins. A team in form, who have won four home games on the trot.
I just hope we can keep the run going on Saturday, if we do the rest of the teams in play off contention will start sh&^ting themselves.

'Tis music to my eyes! :)
The recent turnaround has been beyond my wildest dreams. Lets hope this momentum is now irresistible & can see us go one better than we managed last season.

-
Could this be our Sheff U moment from last season?
We played worse up there, admittedly.
But that win felt like a major turning point and we visibly grew in confidence from that point on.
I was talking with the old boy before the game last night and mentioned something similar. Thought that a performance up there last night would be the moment when we all start to really believe again.
Great stuff last night. Always looked in control of the game. Thought their goal was a fluke and, other than that, they didn't really have any other chances of note. We chased them down all night and never looked uncomfortable.
The defence looks really, really solid. Obviously Hause and, in particular, Mings, are playing well, but Taylor has grown in confidence with a run of games and playing alongside a solid centre, while I think that Elmo is a better all round footballer than Hutton as well.
Keep it up lads!
-

Bit of itk here. Mings absolutely loves it at Villa and is hoping to sign a permanent deal if we can do it. Him and Hause were imperious last night. The whole team seem to be fighting for the cause and its great to see. Couldn't believe how much the Forest fans were having a go at Jack. One near us was shouting "Stop falling over Grealish you ponce" I couldn't help shouting back "he would if your players stop fucking kicking him" Happy days. Oh and great to see Sid in the pub before the game.
-
There was a foul on him during the second-half - the one for which Milosevic picked up a booking - when he was completely scythed down running down the left-wing, and you can see a load of Forest fans in the front rows behind him jumping to the feet and shouting at him as though he'd dived. How he was supposed to stay on his feet I have absolutely no idea!
-

Think you might have been in an advanced state of refreshment at the blues game mate - He was suspended for two games :)
-
a bit off topic but I noticed a Villa fan attacked another Villa fan with a blade last night . People are asking for witnesses .
there was an argument on the coach. This coach runs past the bagot arms where the incident happened.
-

We scored from the resulting free kick, so justice was certainly done on his detractors (again).
-
Not getting ahead if myself but IF we get into playoff place i’d fancy us to come theough it. Momentum and all that.
-
I want us all to calm down, I am sneakily starting to believe again and only feel that if we all start getting optimistic, Villa will kick us in the balls like we know they can!! But..........
-

Yes, I saw that, slashed his face so scarred for life. Why was the culprit carrying a knife? Off his face on the white stuff I guess.
Unfortunately makes us no better than the neighbours.
Hope the scumbag is caught and locked up.
-
However that incident may not have had anything to do with the Villa or football. It's a general problem now all over the place.
-
I strongly disagree with some suggestions earlier in this thread that we should drop Steer for one of our other keepers. He looks our most solid and reliable option to me at the moment.
-
Brilliant result from the lads we have momentum now keep playing like we have and there is no reason why we can't do it I've said we will make the play offs at the start of the season so I will stick by that prediction hitting form at just the right time.
-

Absolutely. Until he fucks up, keep him in. Even then, he's doing well enough.

He bought that bravely. Players of lesser fibre would've let the defender concede the throw. Jack toed it past him, knowing there was a small chance he'd get away down the line, but a million times more likely he was going to get heavily clattered.
Bloke's fucking nails.

Jack clearly has developed a reputation that opposing fans don't like and they hate him so much all reality goes out of the window, when its bloody obvious on the tele he is being kicked to fuck! Of course it doesn't help when opposing players scythe him down and then complain to the ref which seems to happening on a frequent basis now. This just winds opposing supported up even more. The good thing is that Jack seems to have the temperament to rise above it all and just smile. I'm gobsmacked he didn't even get a sniff at the England squad

Very true. His feet are just too quick for a lot of players in this division, so he is able to keep the ball just out of their reach. As a result, they often end up mullering him, even if they were honestly going for the ball.
-
Jack is the biggest thing in the Championship. A bit like Ronaldo was in the Premier League so no doubt he will be fouled constantly and picked upon by other fans. Goes with the territory.

Yes I noticed the same thing and thought what a bunch of brain dead ****** they were.
Glad we're coming back into form anyway, imagine how good we'd be with a couple of good wingers as well. Most of the time, the players we have there are like passengers and we've still managed 3 very impressive wins on the bounce despite that.
-
Agree, Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma would do nicely....
-
As much as the first game had almost everything give me low worry, everything accordingly to plan standard win like last night.
Their goal was a bit flukey and once we got deservedly in front it was only a matter of how many we won by.
Well done Dean for the game plan
Well done the players for following it

There was a foul on him during the second-half - the one for which Milosevic picked up a booking - when he was completely scythed down running down the left-wing, and you can see a load of Forest fans in the front rows behind him jumping to the feet and shouting at him as though he'd dived. How he was supposed to stay on his feet I have absolutely no idea!
Yes I noticed the same thing and thought what a bunch of brain dead c***s they were.

I'd say two good full-backs as well, along with defensive midfielder. I do realise that is almost half a team!!

We’ve had Bowen here already, released as a schoolboy.
-
I didn’t know that. We can add him to the list of ones that got away, I guess
-
I don't think he was released, as far as I know he had a trial when he was 10 and wasn't taken on.

I strongly disagree with some suggestions earlier in this thread that we should drop Steer for one of our other keepers. He looks our most solid and reliable option to me at the moment.
Absolutely. Until he fucks up, keep him in. Even then, he's doing well enough.
Steer has been our best and most consistent goalkeeper this season and looks as though he actually has a little bit of bravery, which the other two definately don't have.
He's our number 1 as far as I'm concerned and fully deserved.
-
He actually came off his line to punch a ball clear, the others do not seem to have that in their bag! Seize this great chance Jed, you have had to wait a very long time for it.
-
Not really to do with the game as such, but there's a picture doing the rounds of a Villa fan who was slashed across the face last night. All it says was that he was in a confrontation on one of the coaches last night and it happened when they got off. Absolutely no place for that.
-
The inference is that they were on the same coach coming back from the game.
Which means the attacker was in the ground, armed with a blade of some sort !
The bloke is obviously a fucking nutter, but what if he was a fucking nutter with a pathological hatred of a player and got on the pitch?
What the fuck is going on?
-
I for one, do not want to see anymore of the 'jobs to big for him' nonsense. Dean Smith is good enough to manage this club for the next ten years. Whatever division we are in next season.
I agree that with Mings and Hause, plus Chester, Grealish, Mcginn, Hologram and Abraham we have the beginnings of a decent team. Add a few quality wide players and we can do well in the Prem.
-
Why are you calling him Hologram if you think he’s part of the makings of a good team?
-
because for all his ability he has a tendency to go missing for large parts of the match. However he contributes with goals and assists so I wouldnt throw out the baby with the bath water.

HOURIHANE is a different player with Jack letting him play a more advanced role with McGinn in the crux of the midfield.

Played well last night anyway
-
It's the hope that kills you. Please Villa don't finish me off again. Having said that they must have finished us off that many times we are now immortal.
-
We've turned so many corners over the last few seasons I can't work out if I'm Dead or Alive.

Do they spin you right round? ;)

Like a record, baby!

Pretty horrific pictures from a villa fan on FB claiming to have been slashed across the fsce by a fellow villa fan on a coach.

Claiming? Maybe it was a razor-taloned kestrel waiting to swoop on returning coaches. Or a drone controlled from a bunker in Rubery. We may never know for sure.

No-one jinx things by making a "predictions" thread.
