We will win games with that mid 3. The McGinn suspension could be a blessing, he looks like he's on full charge again. If this is the Villa of Nov/ Dec we have a chance as other results seem to going our way.

In terms of play-off hopefuls we have now had three six pointers on the spin against Derby, Blues and Forest and won them all. Boro at the weekend and Bristol City and Wednesday still to come. We can do this.

Job done, slowly slowly catch a monkey, getting there, stunning result, Jack has such an impact on the side, we have one of the best players in the country in Jack, go into the next one, vital we get another good result and we really are stamping our authority on the play offs, what a summer this could be.

Best performance for months.
Mings is just fucking majestic. McGinn and Jack are like salt and pepper, they just go together.
I still worry that any of our 3 or 4 wide players don’t offer anywhere near enough, with Green disappearing for most of that second half.

Given where we were 4 games ago, dare we dream?

Yes, very controlled second half, almost professional !

Is it juvenile for me to have wanted SJM to go up to that animal in Forest's defence (Benatwat I think) after the final whistle and ask him what the score is ?

Brilliant performance, most compact without the ball I've seen all season. Very impressed with Green tonight and thought Hourihane was very good. McGinn fired up after being dropped, superb. Kudos to Smith, team looked really well drilled tonight. Everyone did well, Abraham didn't have the greatest second half maybe but Smith hooked him.

Bristol City dropped two points at home to Ipswich last night and tonight Derby dropped two points at home to Stoke. Add to that defeats tonight for Boro, Small Heath, Hull and obviously Forest along with our three points this evening it has been a very good midweek for us.

Up to 8th and just 2pts behind Derby in 6th place playoff spot. Win against Boro and we're 1pt behind 5th place...and with both Bristol and Derby not playing, we'll be 6th. The promotion juggernaut is on its way! :)

Lovely play from Lolley for their goal.  I'd love to see him, Jack and SJM in the same side.

After their rather lucky goal, again, I honestly can't remember Steer having a proper save to make.  We had a couple of hairy moments but I thought we defended well enough overall and I like the attitude of taking a booking if they really need to.  Tammy was poor tonight but as soon as he went off, you can see what he brings to the game in keeping the ball up front instead of us hammering it into space for Kodjia to chase.  Jack and SJM are a class apart. Hourihane played well and has hopefully returned to being really useful instead of a hologram.  Mings and Hause are ace.  Good win Villa.  Good subs too.

That tackle was a disgrace, it was liked he slowed up so he could kick Grealish.

Cracking delivery from Hourihane, in off the rod it seemed from Hause

we only looked like adding to our lead after that

Wouldn’t drop Steer

Came off his line and cleared a few dangerous crosses tonight

None of those other idiots we had in goal this year did that

wasnt quick on his feet for the first alright, seemed to slip a bit, similar to one Kalinic let in recently

That aside, Ive liked all Ive seen from Steer so far, defenders seems to trust him too, another big change.

thought the Forest keeper was rubbish tonight in comparison, 6ft 8 man mountain bottled coming out for Hourihane's cross

Isn't smith not particularly involved in the signings? Isn't that the sporting director's role?

What a difference a few makes make. I'd put us favourites for the last playoff spot now, derby are a busted flush, and would you bet against us against any of the others?

Thought Taylor had his best game for some time and linked up well with those around and in front of him.

Been discussing via text with one of my sons what happens when Chester and Tuanzebe are fit. For me, it's Tuanzebe and Mings in the middle with Hause at left back, he's a better option overall then Taylor. Chester would have to be on the bench.

Went to the local to watch the match to be told that the locals wanted to watch a trivial Champions League match. So I had to settle for listening to the more important match on my phone while watching the kickabout .  Do these people not realise what city they live in?

A successful night all round though. In Deano we trust. I can dream now of Jack and John tearing Premier League teams apart next season. Hopefully the dream can become reality now.

Good win tonight and thought we were excellent in the opening stages of the game, but have to agree about our lack of quality down the flanks.  Taylor, Elmo, El Ghazi, Adomah and Green look so poor at times, especially when compared to the likes of Mings, Grealish and McGinn.

That said, we've had a pretty comfortable win away at a form team and will go into the game on Saturday in good form.

I thought Tuanzebe had gone back as he is due to be out for the rest of the season?

Just got back.  Sat with my Villa supporting mate and his friend, in the opposite home stand to the away fans. Good to see the Villa boys enjoying themselves so much.

A very good performance all round.  Fluke goal for them, and apart from the last few minutes of the first half and the start of the second, they didn't really threaten much.  Mings continued his impressive performances, and Hause was comfortable too. McGinn was class, and just denied his hat trick by the width of the post.

Agree w all that

Just back via Stoke.

We were a cut above Forest all night.

Bar 25 minutes in the first half where it got scrappy, we were generally excellent. Passed and moved it well, disrupted them and harried them off the ball, to a point where they were limited to long ball rubbish.

2nd half was a masterclass in game management. Never under any threat.

Silly goal to concede, Steer at fault, but Lolley should not be getting that far.

Mings a colossus. He's making a huge difference.

Brilliant atmosphere in the away end. What a glorious chance we have now.

Same here, I’ve been saying this about Lolley for weeks, especially after ripping Albion’s defenders to shreds and being one of us to boot too 👍

I could be wrong but I think that was because we'd just won a match 4-0 and Whelan had played well in that match. Certainly well enough to keep his place.

Could this be our Sheff U moment from last season?

We played worse up there, admittedly.

But that win felt like a major turning point and we visibly grew in confidence from that point on.

I was talking with the old boy before the game last night and mentioned something similar. Thought that a performance up there last night would be the moment when we all start to really believe again.

Great stuff last night. Always looked in control of the game. Thought their goal was a fluke and, other than that, they didn't really have any other chances of note. We chased them down all night and never looked uncomfortable.

The defence looks really, really solid. Obviously Hause and, in particular, Mings, are playing well, but Taylor has grown in confidence with a run of games and playing alongside a solid centre, while I think that Elmo is a better all round footballer than Hutton as well.

Keep it up lads!

Bit of itk here. Mings absolutely loves it at Villa and is hoping to sign a permanent deal if we can do it. Him and Hause were imperious last night. The whole team seem to be fighting for the cause and its great to see. Couldn't believe how much the Forest fans were having a go at Jack. One near us was shouting "Stop falling over Grealish you ponce" I couldn't help shouting back "he would if your players stop fucking kicking him" Happy days. Oh and great to see Sid in the pub before the game.

There was a foul on him during the second-half - the one for which Milosevic picked up a booking - when he was completely scythed down running down the left-wing, and you can see a load of Forest fans in the front rows behind him jumping to the feet and shouting at him as though he'd dived. How he was supposed to stay on his feet I have absolutely no idea!

He bought that bravely. Players of lesser fibre would've let the defender concede the throw. Jack toed it past him, knowing there was a small chance he'd get away down the line, but a million times more likely he was going to get heavily clattered.

Jack clearly has developed a reputation that opposing fans don't like and they hate him so much all reality goes out of the window, when its bloody obvious on the tele he is being kicked to fuck!  Of course it doesn't help when opposing players scythe him down and then complain to the ref which seems to happening on a  frequent basis now.  This just winds opposing supported up even more.  The good thing is that Jack seems to have the temperament to rise above it all and just smile.  I'm gobsmacked he didn't even get a sniff at the England squad

Very true. His feet are just too quick for a lot of players in this division, so he is able to keep the ball just out of their reach. As a result, they often end up mullering him, even if they were honestly going for the ball.

I for one, do not want to see anymore of the 'jobs to big for him' nonsense. Dean Smith is good enough to manage this club for the next ten years. Whatever division we are in next season.
I agree that with Mings and Hause, plus Chester, Grealish, Mcginn, Hologram and Abraham we have the beginnings of a decent team. Add a few quality wide players and we can do well in the Prem.
