The Hawthorns

0-4
-
7-12.
-
Routine away win, 3-1.
-
Oh, and fuck the fuckers.
(I still don't really care about them, though. Sorry, Dave)
-
It's our proper derby.
-
It's not. It might have been before.
1-6.
-
I was paraphrasing the Boss.
-
2-2
-
You don't have proper derbies on a Friday night. And Bruce Springsteen doesn't give a shit about some no-marks from a shanty town, either.
-
6-3 away win, this one surely has a bucket load of goals in it!
-
They have Brentford later, hopefully they will pick up a few injuries and be knackered for Fri.
-
I was not looking forward to this game a month ago. Cannot wait for it now. Albion has struggled against teams who have attacked them. 2-0 Villa.
-
Normal away service to resume, 0-3.
-
Sandwell 2 Aston 4
-
Nailed on 0-0 this.
-
Up 'early' this !
Will have better idea after Brentford tonight.
Livermore or Dawson get booked tonight they will miss the villa Friday.
Dawson will be a pest at set pieces so be good to have him pick up a suspension.
Don't wish injuries on anyone however any misfortune on there players will be beneficial to us Friday .
After viewing them tonight will then give a verdict.
Definitely goals
I think match tonight v Brentford will have 4+ goals in it.
-
should be a cracker I’m going for a 3-2 villa win el ghazi Tammy and grealish.

2-5

Away win. Think of a number.

A boring game of few chances with us nicking it 1-0.
-
Its just nice to go into games like this with confidence, knowing that Smith will pick the best team and try to win the game.
-
A boring game of few chances with us nicking it 1-0.
Few chances? No chance
We'll score at least two against their defence and they'll create chances and be much better than Boro.
-
Tesco bags 1-5 Aston Villa
-
1-1
-
Time for Jack to really stand out.
-
2-1 us. Abraham with both. Morrison for them. He's been there for ages.
-
Our pace down the flanks will blow them away. 3-1 to us. Tammy, Conor and Kodjia to finish them off.
-
Watching them attack last night, they have quality out wide in Phillips. That said, Brentford seemed too narrow first half and you wonder what they'd muster if they were starting from deeper and with pace to worry about the other way.
Defensively they're very loose. The goal was soft and he's unmarked, while Brentford moved the ball through them a few times.
I'd be staggered if there's only 2 or 3 goals scored. First goal is key and I'm confident we will dominate the ball.
Moore doesn't seem to react and their game management is poor.

Goals in this one. 4-2 to Villa.

Have you been on holiday for a couple of weeks?
-
Think the threats are there wide players - as are ours
They play two up I think, with the wide players cutting in a lot. Lolley caused mayhem doing that, partly because hourihane and the rest of the midfield werent protecting the back four. Well need to be better there. It worked v Boro but they didn't really have the same fluid, creative runners
On the flip side, there must be scope for el ghazi and Bolasie to get one v one and for us to outnumber their midfielders

We're due a poor game and I'll take the odd boring game if we get the points.
We're Aston Villa, we entertain when we want.

keep another clean sheet and the stripey filth will be beaten....

Having watched the very average Brentford last night pull out a draw. Even though albion missed three early chances. We have far to much for them. DS-Terry -O'Kelly in attendance. Plotting their assault. They will not know what has hit them when Bolasie & Ghazi mount their own assault. 1-3 Bolasie-El Ghazi- Grealish …….
-
Only 20k there last night, you can add 5-6k on to that on Friday. They've got 200 tickets remaining. Come to see the Villa.

Was at the game last night through work duties
Thought they were slow in attacking with Brentford playing what looked to me like 1-4-1-4-1 formation when out of possession, they struggled at times to break them down
Defence tried to play out from the back including Johnson which is something Moore is trying with them but they do not look comfortable doing it
If we play a high press as in previous games we should get some success in recovering possession quickly.
Brentford came for the draw got what they wanted and went home happy, the locals were not impressed though.
Strangely only seemed to get vocal when singing about us
-
Be very happy to be proved wrong, but I’ve gone for the draw. 75% in the poll, gone for an away win.
The people can’t be wrong, can they?

It’s not like exuberance and over confidence has ever back fired on us.
You just have to consider the quality of refereeing at this level.
-
Its the first time in years that I feel confident about winning in every game we play,
I know it won’t happen but the belief that we are going to win before every match is how I feel just now
one thing I do know for sure is we will be going to Albion to win the game and score a bunch of goals with no fear
-
The Secondary Second City Derby.
Optimistic that we can win this, should be goals either way.
-
We won’t keep a clean sheet but will eventually break them down so 1-3 from me. Expect the two heads six fingers to start off on fire
-
They looked tired and leggy towards the end of last nights game. Like us they are better in attack than defence. I reckon 2-2.
-
Any Arabian Villains out there know if the game is on Arab TV? I'm in Bahrain and planning to find a bar/sports bar or hotel to view.
-

I was thinking 2-2 too! Don’t think tiredness from last night will be an issue. Their manager getting stick for making no substitutions late on. I don’t blame him as his bench is full of veterans.
-
Odd that he didnt mix it up. The fross for the equaliser was because Morrison was fucked and could not close down.
What will they do against a side with so much pace out wide?
-

Lose, hopefully.
-
From watching last night, I'm not worried. Their game, like ours now, seems to rely on lots of possession. They won't have that all their own way on Friday. When we score first, they'll be exposed chasing the game, and I'll be able to hear the half-time stripey boos from my house.
-
Could be anything: 4-4, 2-6, 5-3, who knows? I have no axe to grind with the Albion, SHA is the derby (and the twonks) for me, but just from a table point of view we mustn’t lose really.
-
3-2 to the Villa!
-
The Secondary Second City Derby.
Optimistic that we can win this, should be goals either way.
First City, not Second. The City of London has a population of about twelve.
-
Gayle starting for them will make a difference. A front four of Gayle, Rodriguez, Matt Phillips and Harvey Barnes is way better than what Boro put out so they'll test us like Forest.
Difference here is their back 4 isn't good as a unit and our 3 in midfield can get at their two.
I thought for a while we'd win this but I didn't expect to win as many as we have recently so would be happy with a point from this as think we're capable of 4 points from Stoke-Leeds home games.
-
The Secondary Second City Derby.

I'm more than optimistic, i think we're going to fuck the fuckers.
-
I’m a bit worried about Friday - worried about how confident I am, and how much I’m looking forward to the match. It’s a really strange feeling because the last few years have knocked the confidence out of me, even when things look positive.
It feels different now though so my prediction is that we’ll do these wankers 3-1. Tammy, Bolasie and Grealish to score.
-
Looking forward to this immensely. I’ve hated watching Villa on TV for the last God knows how many years. Now it’s different. We actually look like we want to win games playing attacking football rather than sneak them with a bit of luck. Far more comfortable viewing.
-
I can't stand those bastards so a nice, comfy, don't get out of second gear, 6-2 victory will be just fine.
-
Being a Great Barr lad, I reckon this one might mean more to DS than the blues game. Like most of us from north Brum, I knew more baggies fans in the area than noses.
Deano will have them fired up for this one I'm sure.
1-3 the Villa.
-
I wonder how many times there has been a match where both managers are Aston Villa fans?
-
Only 20k there last night, you can add 5-6k on to that on Friday. They've got 200 tickets remaining. Come to see the Villa.
I watched the Brentford game on telly. At one stage you could hear the players talking to each other, it was so quiet.
They’ll Find the missing thousands in time for Friday though.
-

Odd that he didnt mix it up. The fross for the equaliser was because Morrison was fucked and could not close down.
What will they do against a side with so much pace out wide?
Try and kick the shit out of us as usual. Remember Alex Cropley.

Fucking loads. Just not in Birmingham because Villa are from everywhere else!

Tipton Turdus Turdus 1 Aston Villa 5.
-
Tipton Turdus Turdus 1 Aston Villa 5.
I think Richard E may be offended due to his association with Turdus Town.
-
I've always had a strong dislike for these tossers, in my time watching they've always been a much closer rival than the Blues. So I enjoy beating them all the more.
I more confident than a month ago, but think it'll be a draw.
-
1-3 Villa
Pen Abraham, Chester and Grealish .
-
It'll make a nice change for us to play a local rival who are utterly consumed with jealousy about us won't it? Must be nearly a fortnight since the last time.
-
Its just nice to go into games like this with confidence, knowing that Smith will pick the best team and try to win the game.
I love the fact this could be posted for every game
I think everyone has fallen back in love with us. Long may it continue
2-1 Chester + Hourihane
-
This x 100. The talk the other day was about how Pulis was going to launch the ball and get behind us. It’s so nice and novel to have a manager who reacts to that tactically rather than passively accepting what we all know is going to happen.
-
I genuinely have no idea how this will end up, which is great compared to the predictable nature of the division we're all so desperate to get to.
I'm naturally cautious so was delighted with last Saturday, the first 30 minutes was the best I've seen us play since BFR was in town and the way we negated the opposition was brilliant. I'd love to see this happen on Friday but my instinct is that it would be too good to be true.
They got the deal of the year swopping Rondon for Gayle and if he starts I think he will score.
In summary, evenly matched sides but we are on the up after Saturday and that momentum will push us over the line.
2-1
-
I have a bad feeling about this one. Can’t shake it. We’ll score for sure, but I think this will be an Albion 3-2.
-
Despite our recent excellent form we could still really do with at least 7 points from our three pre-Christmas games if we're serious about the top two. No reason we can't beat these.

Hi All,
Been living in Thailand and this week just got back to UK to spend Xmas with family.
As going round pup to pup drinking Ales ( really missed the Ales ) caught up with old friends and now im going Friday night to watch the Villa and cannot wait.
But the catch is i'll be in the Albion end but i don't care as i missed the Villa to much and to see them live again was on my must to do list. Fed up watching them on T.V or internet in Thailand with the time zone 7 hours difference.
Finally going to see the Villa boys, My head say's 1-1 but my hearts is going with a 2-1 win.
All the best people.

I do know of Breeze rooftop as near Saphan Taksin BTS stop and bridge, The reason never been as the food is very overprised but the view are out of this world, Hope you went up just before 5 to see the sun go down and watch the city come alive.
I have been to many rooftops in Bangkok and it is a must do but i stay away from the dress codes as i love showing off my Villa Tattoo's on my legs, The Thai people love them and get stopped many times asking questions.
Like i said i do miss English Ale and beer but Thai food IMO the best in the world. Then again i love spicy food.

Woooooooooooooooooh!!
ALBION’s derby clash with Aston Villa is now a complete sell-out.
The limited number of remaining single tickets were snapped up on Thursday afternoon.
Thank you for your support.
-
They will leave the blocks like greyhounds and hopefully finish the game as lame ducks. Going for 3-1 win. We should have too much for them.
-
2-5 Another seismic win for Villa, Oh yes!!!!Yes!!Yes!!YEESSSSS! Y...hang on that's something else.

Crippled by Ally Robertson who funnily enough now recalls he hated the Villa. Shouldn't it be the other way round?

Not to mention the butting in before the reporter has finished asking the question

Tough game, hope we can keep this run going but think this could be a draw. 2-2

Fuck the Albion

I'm putting money on a draw.

Does Darren Moore really support us?
-
2011 there was this. Hasn't been so forthcoming this week for some reason when asked about supporting us. "My school got free tickets so I went once" and then went on about the bitters and his affinity for them from a young age.
Not many footballers can say they filled Paul McGrath's boots - but Albion hero Darren Moore did.
The former Baggies centre-back wore a pair of Macca's boots for a whole season after receiving them as a gift from 'God.'
He said: "When my career took off my brother David, who was at Villa Park as an apprentice, saw Paul in the gym one morning and told him: 'My brother absolutely loves you. He idolises you!'
"Paul asked what size boots I wore, found out I was the same, and said: 'Give your brother these.'
"He came home and gave them to me. I reckon he'd have kept them if they'd fit him but he wasn't a size 10!
"I'm not exaggerating when I say I wore them the following season until they fell off my feet. I taped them up and all sorts. They were brilliant.
"They had his initials on the bottom. I treasured them.
"Honestly, one game my feet were coming out of the sides. They were great memories."
Moore's appreciation for Villa's superb stopper came about some years earlier when the gentle giant, nicknamed Big Dave by Albion fans, watched the claret and blues in the early 1990s.
Moore preferred playing football to watching it but was persuaded to get down to Villa Park on a free weekend by his friends - and the rest is history.
He continued: "When I started playing for the county team, a lot of the boys were Villa fans.
"A weekend came free when we didn't have a game and one of the lads had a couple of tickets to go down Villa Park. They said 'Come on Daz, let's go and watch the Villa.'
"There was Tony Cascarino, Tony Daley, Paul McGrath and Sid Cowans. I thought 'Go on then. I'll have a bit of that.'
"I came down and I really enjoyed it but then my own career took off. If that hadn't happened, I was going to get myself a season ticket.
"Funny enough, that season I watched Villa at home but my dad wouldn't let me travel with the team away. So what I did was watch the Albion play those weeks.
"Playing for Albion at the time was Don Goodman, Colin West, Richard Sneekes, Paul Raven and Daryl Burgess.
"It was quite ironic when I was growing up that I went to watch both clubs. I had a full season of watching Villa and Albion.
"But Paul McGrath was my hero. I was a centre-half obviously and watching him really was a joy.
"He read the game so well and was total no-nonsense too. He had a deft touch but blimey, he was ferocious.
"I was able to hear him because I was pitchside in the Trinity Road. I heard the shouting, demanding, tackling, organising.
"Well-known strikers used to come down Villa Park looking for goals and he'd swat them like flies. What a player!
"I remember loving Macca in that era. He was just immense. I looked up to him.
"I bump into Sid now and again too and I still get goosebumps. What a player! And what a lovely guy too.
"I saw him three weeks ago and I was telling him how I used to watch him stroking the ball around Villa Park. He used to dictate the play.
"I am a professional footballer but I still get those moments when I meet my heroes just like fans do. You still get that knot in your stomach."
After spells at Torquay, Doncaster, Bradford and Portsmouth, Gary Megson signed the no-nonsense defender for the Baggies.
Moore proved to be a rock at the heart of the Albion defence as they earned promotion to the Premier League in 2001-02. He was also named in the PFA Division One team of the year.
What followed was a double header against Villa - a 0-0 at The Hawthorns and a famous 2-1 win at Villa Park, with Thomas Hitzlsperger bagging a late win for the home side.
Despite the disappointing result, Moore says that night match was the realisation of a dream.
He continued: "That for me was a dream come true. That was me living the dream, playing at Villa Park. That was my moment.
"I had to really sort my mind to keep my focus and push me on.
"From that age of wanting to play at Villa, it felt like I had fulfilled something special.
"It was a great memory and will always stick with me. They were close games with Albion. I envisage it being a close one too this weekend.
"My first allegiance was with the Villa. Because my time at the Albion was so successful, I have a soft spot for both of them now.
"But that era I followed the Villa, went to watch them and chose to support them.
"If you'd asked me as a lad who I wanted to play for, it was Villa. That was it.
"Now with my involvement and success at Albion and friends, my heart is at the Albion. I had wonderful times up there."
-
Another big test. Definitely winnable and it's great to have such a goal threat
I do think Albion are close to forest in having runners from deep and wide who can expose our shakiness and lack of cover. If hourihane plays and plays like he did against forest, Matt Phillips is going to cause us all sorts of problems. Ditto Harvey Barnes cutting in like Joe lolley was.
I can see the case for Whelan but suspect he'll keep the same midfield.
-
Fuck the Albion!
Fuck the Albion!
Fuck the Albion,
Fuck the Albion,
Fuck the Albion!
If we start queuing now, the Mickey Mouse tatters might be able to process us all through their turnstiles in time to see the kick off.
What is it with these twats and their shitty ground? Everytime we go it's an utter scrum to get through the turnstiles. Even the Noses aren't so village.
And where's Dave's reasonable assessment of these Stripey twats?
-
2-2 - they’ll hit us early; we’ll catch them but be unable to bag a winner.
I despise them more than the Other Lot; they’re bitter and twisted about our long-term dominance.
-
Aston Villa are winless in eight away league matches played on Friday (D6 L2) since a 2-0 win at Wrexham in March 1972. (BBC)
Oh dear.
-
Well that's another record that's going to have its arse handed to itself then.
-
It's always tough to call derbies. I normally play it safe and say a draw but I think we can beat these. 1-3. Chester, Mcginn and Abraham with ours.
-
Thanks to the remarkable transformation through Deano & his team - I'm not feeling the same kind of trepidation that I certainly would've done under previous regimes. I certainly think we have a strong chance of beating The Bitters tonight, however I feel the key to victory will be down to who can defend the best.
I've gone for the (score)draw, but frankly anything's possible. I wouldn't be overly disappointed with a point, but pinching all three from a promotion rival would be fantastic. Here's hoping our scintillating away form continues apace. UTV!
-
Still 71% saying a villa win...
Bring it home VILLA!!
-
I fancy us for this.
-
It's good to be going into the game with positivity and confidence whatever happens. If we still had Bruce I think we'd have lost about 4-1.
-
Cheers for the Moore article, PWS, a nice read. He comes across well as does God (obvs).
-
On betfair villa are 9/4 tonight..So £20 invested...UTV
-
Been thinking a lot more seriously about this over multiple cocktails. Not so confident now but still feel we will edge it 4-1.
-
Still 71% saying a villa win...
Bring it home VILLA!!
not so long ago it was the other way around on here, what a turnaround in expectations
-
I think our wide players are the key. The Dingles will kick the crap out of El Ghazi I'm not worried about Bolasie he's a tough nut, but I worry about how El Ghazi will react, hope he doesn't go into his shell after playing so superbly last week.
We need to beat this stripeyfilth but I'd take a draw right now.
-
Cheers for the Moore article, PWS, a nice read. He comes across well as does God (obvs).
So Moore used to watch Villa and Albion. But he doesn't explain why he chose to idolise Paul McGrath instead of Paul Raven and Daryl Burgess.
-
Spoke at length to Darren Moore when he played for Albion, he is definately a Villa fan.
-
En route. Gonna be a windy one. At the highest ground above sea level *yawn*
-
Aston Villa are winless in eight away league matches played on Friday (D6 L2) since a 2-0 win at Wrexham in March 1972. (BBC)
Oh dear.
A Good Friday game and we then played on the saturday and monday as well. I checked the attendance 16,846, Wrexhams average that season was 5,835. One of a number of away games that season turned into home matches by our following.
-
I actually like Darren Moore if he wasn’t at WBA I would wish him more success
-

That requires no explaining. Good lad Darren Moore. It's a shame he is their Manager but it's a job I guess.
-
Only 20k there last night, you can add 5-6k on to that on Friday. They've got 200 tickets remaining. Come to see the Villa.
Attendance trivia stat. Average attendances at Villa Park are above 30k for the 23rd season in a row. The last time the Hawthorns averaged above 30k was in 1958/59.
-
Villa win and Both Teams To Score 9/2 on SkyBet
-
After they sack Moore when they don't go up, we'll have him in some capacity. Be nice to have another Villa fan on the books.
-
Never fails..
-
Fuck the Albion! Up the Villa!
Going to miss the lot as I'm watching a Bowie tribute at the town hall, but I'm confident we will fuck the fuckers in my absence.
-
Never fails..
Oh I do like to walk along the prom, prom, prom...etc ;)
