Title: Aston Villa v Preston Pre-Match Thread
Post by: PeterWithesShin on October 01, 2018, 12:24:58 AM
October 2nd, 19.45 kick off.
Villa Park

2-1 and Bruce gives it the big one post-match as we see off the side bottom of the league.

We scrape a 1-1, but Preston deserved more, is how I see it going. Rarely am I correct.

Come on Villa. Fucking win.

3-0 Villa and Bruce's last visit to the home dug out.

Nyland
Taylor
Chester
Tuanzebe
Hutton

Hourihane
McGinn

Bolasie
Grealish
El Ghazi

Kodjia

Is what I would go with. But we'll have goodness knows what and at least 4 out of position.

Maybe time for us to help another struggling team?

I’ll go for 1-1.

He needs to get Grealish back into a more central position where he can influence the game more.  Not sure if Abraham will be fit, so Kodjia will play centrally if he doesn't make it.  Presuming all are fit, I would go with:

                                      Nyland

Elmohamady          Chester          Tuanzebe         Hutton

                                      Jedinak

                          Grealish             McGinn

El Ghazi                         Abraham                      Bolasie

Subs - Moreira, Bree, Taylor, Bjarnason, Hourihane, Adomah, Kodjia

I think they're better than their league position suggests, they can be quite physical and after nearly beating us at VP last season and coming back from two down the season before last, Neill will have them up for it as he's approaching the last-chance saloon.
Another crummy draw I'm afraid and Bruce hangs on til we get done at Millwall.
Title: Re: Aston Villa v Preston Pre-Match Thread
Post by: paul_e on October 01, 2018, 11:31:19 AM
As PWS says in thew very first post, we'll win but Bruce will then act like a twat in the post match interview and claim that he knew all along that we were going to struggle through this period but that it's all going to be fine now and he knows what he's doing. We'll follow it up by dropping points to Millwall at the weekend.

We will win 2-0 or 2-1. Preston could be one of those sides who, after bobbing along in the middle of the Championship for a while finally come unstuck this season.

Predictable team selection with a predictable huff and puff performance which we will scrape through 2-0 or 2-1

Tuanzabee will remain out of position as will Hutton and Jedinak and probably a couple more

Surely someone is telling the owners he does  not have a clue

Either Bruce's Villa to extend the run to 1 loss in 10 by winning 0-0. Or it will all come crashing down and we will lose 1-0 because the fans are hysterical or all the players are tired from playing in the World Cup yesterday.

Harsh on Hourihane, but this would also be my team (or possibly Kodj in place of El Ghazi with Boasie on the right)

This team, a good win on Tuesday followed by a sacking on Wednesday and an exciting appointment on Thursday would do me just fine.

I'd go:

Nyland

Elmohamady Chester Tuanzebe Taylor

Hourihane McGinn Grealish

El Ghazi Abraham Bolasie

Apologies for suggesting Taylor, but I'd just like to see a defence with everybody in their correct position, even if he is a bit crap.

2-0 up after 20 minutes.  We then sit back.
Preston score early in the second half to make things nervy.
We get a set piece goal to make things a bit better then score another near the end.

4-1.

The next two games are against the bottom 2 clubs in the division, and if Bruce doesn't get 6 points I think he's gone. In 5 away games this season Preston have scored twice and haven't got a single away point. They're almost as bad as Rotherham, and if we can't beat them Bruce has to go. I think we'll win tomorrow 2-0 to give Bruce a stay of execution, but draw with Millwall on Saturday which will seal his fate.

I'm not even going to have a stab at the starting eleven. He could as easily pick all of El Ghazi, Bolasie, Albert, Kodjia and Abraham as pick none of them. Who knows, maybe Hogan's fit.

Well isn't Bruce lucky getting to play the worst teams in the league .
Preston have so little idea on how to defend , low on confidence and are one of worst teams in league form wise .

Away from home played 5 lost 5 and only scored 2 goals and conceded 11

Player for player villa are better and so on that basis and the need for a big result a 4-0 victory.

Couple of penalties .

Callum Robinson now injured to add to Harrup from the weekend. I think thats 8 first teamers out injured now. They started well before injuries and suspensions took their toll.
PNE aren't as bad as their league position suggests (although with that injury list they are right now!). They don't give up though - so late drama & disapointment is always a possibilty for us

If we don't drum these then Bruce wants putting in a sack with TB infected badgers, put on a trebuchet and launched into orbit.
I hear trebuchet is coming in as assistant to Henry

Unfortunately don't think spud face will send us out to get a resounding result more a keep it tight and Nick a win.A strategy that has failed us so many times in the last couple of years.

I hope the fans give him some plenty of stick.  All 90 mins.

I don't, but I can't deny I'd enjoy a bit more of the 'there or thereabouts' chanting we heard last week. That was very good.  I can't think of a better way to highlight Bruce's excuses and cliches than to sing them back at him. Best case scenario, we're cruising to a four nil win and the entire crowd is singing 'there or thereabouts' to every tune in the songbook.

Whatever happens tonight, I cannot wait for Villa to start the march back towards the top where we belong. Come on Villa.

Indeed. Bruce's penultimate game. Come on, Villa!
