Welcome to Guess The Crowd for the 2018/19 season!
Hello, everybody!
Fresh from the World Cup and a near miss in May for the fantastic VILLA, GTC is coming home!
So, get your teams out of the bar bath and on to the training pitch, to run around cut-out men, practice scorpion / bicycle kick goals and tiptoe through the cones in their bibs.
They have to get fit for an even more fabulous season of Guess The Crowd which kicks off later on this evening.
If you're new to this:
The idea in every round is to guess what you think the official attendance figure will be, for that match. I post the figure that AVFC releases to the press at the end of every round on the Guess thread and award points according to how close you are to the total.
GTC is played for every home game and all Cup games. This means there are loads of overlapping rounds. Take care as you may guess only once in a round.
Usual rules apply again, this season.
These are:
One guess only in a round, per team. (Accidentally posting a second guess will not get you more points as only your first guess is counted.)
No editing of your post.
Editing means you get only 1 point that round. Aaaaaaargh!
You must post your guess before Kick Off.
Discretion is used in the event of multiple posts around then, e.g. from several teams all getting in at the last second.

What could you get?
Stand by: GTC now goes up to 11!!! Even more points !!!
So:
11 Points for a Brucie Bonus - which is a spot on guess, usually early on - check the BB interval in my launch post of the round to win this. ;)
10 points. For a spot- on accurate guess posted after the BB interval.
9 points. For a guess up to 10 away from the official attendance total.
8. For a guess up to 50 away
7. For a guess up to 100 away
6. For a guess up to 200 away
5. For a guess up to 300 away
4. For a guess up to 400 away
3. For a guess up to 500 away
2. For a guess up to 1000 away
1. For entering that round! :)
This means there are more points now for everybody guessing up to 300 away from the total, which should help to get the Divisions going!
Other info if you haven’t played before:
GTC rounds are posted about 10 days before a regular home league match and about a week before for a Cup Extra round.
Check the launch post for details of kick off, extra capacity at VP ( Upper Trinity is usually closed) and if it's a cup round, the capacity at the host ground when we're playing Away.
If a team has not posted a guess in 7 regular consecutive GTC rounds, the team will be relegated with their points so far, straight to Division 4.
Once there's a space in any Division, the top ranking team in the Division below is promoted immediately to fill it!
You can join in on any round in the season. Keep your team active and you’ll get promoted, as soon as possible.
It’s never too late to Guess The Crowd!!!
A note about capacity ;)
VP capacity is still a bit of a mystery without the UT, but with it, it is 42,640 odd, from a figure published a couple of years ago. Since then, there have been various alterations to the ground so it probably isn't what it used to be!
Championship League games tend to be played without it. Opinion last season thought that current capacity could be anywhere between 32K - 35K +.
Good luck with that.
Also: Last season, Dr Tony opened the Upper Trinity - or parts of it - very late in the run-up to certain matches to sell more tickets. No idea if our new owners will do that. If they do, well, them’s the breaks, no second guesses allowed, sorry!

Divisions update
New Divisions will appear next week, following the Yeovil round. I have been compiling the lists and promoting/relegating (sorry) to sort out where everybody starts.
Everybody who was in the top 3 as identified in all Divisions last Season has been promoted to their new Division. Congratulations to Skerra, 260475 and Godfrey Brian, QuintonVilla, jimmygreen and littleoldme, Vilan461, The Edge and Perthvillan! ✔️👍🎉
At the moment, there are 83 teams in 4 Divisions :)
(Some teams like to Guess at the last minute. Please check that you have / haven’t guessed already, especially for tomorrow’s match, as there are two rounds going at the moment.)
A word about the rest of D3 and D4.
There were only 3 active teams in D4 at the end of last season! Promotions were obvious. ;)
If your team was active in D3 during the last 7 rounds last season, you are in D3. So are the 3 teams who were relegated from D2 at the end of the season.
If you are new to GTC or you’ve just reactivated your old team by guessing for Wigan / Yeovil then you’re in D4. There’s plenty of scope for more teams and promotions, so don’t be shy, get in there and Guess ;)
Any questions/ issues about GTC, please use this thread, rather than the Guess threads, as I will see it and be able to respond a lot earlier. PMs are also Ok if you prefer. Thanks!

This round included the usual speculation about the visitors’ pulling power, a debate about guessing their followers ( alt-GTC; I responded later), a reminder of the only one guess rule and a review - thanks, Chinchilla ;)
I will not remind teams during the thread from now on, as we’re under way.
Divisions will be up for the first time after the GTC League Cup EXTRAs match Tuesday night, when hopefully there will be a few more points awarded to differentiate between teams.

The results for Villa v Brentford have been posted at the end of the round.
There are some rather big scores. ::)
CDBWF has suggested a change to the rule about only getting 1 point if you post 2 guesses in the same round, by mistake.
CD suggests that the first Guess counts, whatever it is, and any subsequent Guess is ignored.
This is clearly not an invitation to multiple guessing ::) and I must admit I like the premise of rewarding good guesses but I would like to know that other teams are in favour of changing it, as well.
Please post your 👍 or any feedback about this in here or at the end of the Brentford thread before KO on Saturday (Reading). That way, I can act on it for this season either way.

If a team in D1, 2 or 3 is inactive for 7 consecutive GTCs ( not Cups) they are relegated straight to D4. The top teams in all the Divisions below are promoted immediately!

Like quite a few have severely underestimated our active support this season. Why would 33,000 villa want to watch dross like we did on saturday. We need locking up

It certainly makes GTC more difficult than usual to call.
Let’s hope we get less of the dross and more of the joined up stuff that we know our players are capable of producing.

Hello everybody
A team has posted 2 numbers in the current round, saying one is for if the Upper T is open and the other guess, if not. You can see my reply and suggestion to resolve it, in GTC18. I referred to a previous statement about this situation so here it is:
( Taken from the GTC launch post this season)
‘VP capacity is still a bit of a mystery without the UT, but with it, it is 42,640 odd, from a figure published a couple of years ago...
Championship League games tend to be played without it. Opinion last season thought that current capacity could be anywhere between 32K - 35K +...
Also: Last season, Dr Tony opened the Upper Trinity - or parts of it - very late in the run-up to certain matches to sell more tickets. No idea if our new owners will do that. If they do, well, them’s the breaks, no second guesses allowed, sorry!’
How it works:
I use the Villa’s own ticket sales page on the official site to check whether the whole of the Trinity is available for a home match and I monitor @avfcofficial, as well.
Sometimes the Club announces that the whole ground is open well before the match. Sometimes, they start with it closed, then suddenly open Upper T with very few days to go, after a Guess The Crowd round on here has already begun. Sometimes they don’t open it at all.
I update the GTC round with new information about the UT status as soon as I know, and so do other players.
We played GTC like this with no second guesses allowed if the UT suddenly opened, last season, so this is just continuing practice.
I hope this has made sense!

Well done to all in Div 2, esp the winners fantastic total.
I'm pretty satisfied coming 9th in only my second season. First half was better than the second, from where I seemed to score a string of 1's from the unbelievably low (bullshit?) FAC3 figure. Had a strong finish, and pleased with that too. 9th for Villa in reality next year would be excellent.
To Louzie, great work, very enjoyable and keeps the grey cells working. I guess there'll be more full houses next year, so the comp might bunch up a bit, also 4 fewer home games in the mix.

How about adding an additional point for early guess. Certainly there is an increased risk, as things change very quickly in football and you are more likely to strike gold with a guess one day before the game as opposed to 2 weeks before.
