Title: Jorge Mendes
Post by: mcgrath_85 on July 31, 2018, 11:05:52 AM
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/the72.co.uk/111940/aston-villa-enlist-super-agent-jorge-mendes-boost-recruitment-drive/amp/

Alledgedly our new investors have sought the help of George Mendes and the keeper we have brought in on loan is a client of his.

I wonder how Steve will take this if it’s true. It’ll definitely take him out of his comfort zone that’s for sure.

It passed me by then, until now. Big news really.

Not sure what George Mendes can bring to the party. Sergio Mendes would be a better bet.

My guess is Jorge can smell the (future) money and the sooner the Villa go up the sooner he can get his hands on it. He probably knew our owners and offered his services. Bruce gets final call and as we last month released Tony Cotton from his scouting job, we probably need a bit of help in the short term.

He could bring a new era of recruitment to the party! An area that has fucked us over for years and as a direct consequence has left us in the second tier of English football for the third year.
Instead, we're talking about potentially bringing back Robert Snodgrass to battle it out with Glenn Whelan, Mile Jedinak and Henry Lansbury in a slowest midfielders to ever wear the shirt competition.

Yeah. It will never work at this level . . .

As long as he hasn't blown his wad on Wolves, and we're just left with all the chaff he doesn't know what to do with.

I never agreed with the agent approach last year with Wolves and still dont.

Didn’t actually have a problem with what Wolves did linking with Mendes because what they did was within the rules and they were fortunate that they linked with one of the top agents - where I think it’s unethical is that if it is endorsed for Mendes to do it then what’s to stop half of the Angola u23 team being trafficked into say Bury by one of the less connected agents?

As I understood it the Wolves issue was never his involvement with them but that there was a suggestion of them fiddling FFP by having Mendes pay them from his own pocket. Or something like that anyway.

I thought it was the Sugestion that the players contracts are owned by the agent.
As the Tevez situation.

I think some kind of explosive device would be most appropriate and effective.

It's easy to forget they exist to be honest. They're like a slightly more inbred Coventry.

It’s going to go tits up for Wolves at some point. Do their fans seriously think the current top six are going to just sit back and let them gate crash the party? I think they’ll find the links to Mendes coming under scrutiny and also their top players being poached next summer.

Now we're solvent assume we would look to do the wolves style deals through him where you loan with a purchase next year, so it stays out of the 2018/19 accounts?

I think Eva Mendes would be a better option all round.

Re Mendes

The difference between us and Wolves is that we dont own shares in his agency - a Fosun subsidiary does.

if he stops Bruce from buying any more overpriced overpayed overaged championship underperformers then i'm all for it

not sure it will though Mendes might be just as bad thinking of his own interests all the time

If as Bruce says we are using Mendes, but also other agents, that to me is just business as normal. If we go exclusively with Mendes then I would be worried, but also there has to be a wind change in Bruce's attitude to the market, no more, no resale value players. I hope the owners have put an age cap on the players they are willing to allow Bruce to bring to Villa Park and also the length of contracts he is allowed to agree to. I get the feeling under Wyness , it was what Steve wants Steve can have, that has to stop.

I can expect we must have put the feelers out to people like Mendes that we will need a high quality midfielder on a loan to buy deal. For if/when Totingham pay the full price on deadline day for Jack.

I can’t imagine we would want to end the transfer window on a complete downer.

Hang on, we signed the Atletico Madrid keeper (even though he never played for them) and next season Mendes will sell him as 'the goalkeeper that spent a season on loan at Aston Villa'. The man's not stupid.

Could well be having influence in bringing a head coach to over see the coaching side .

Fonseca at Shaktar would be great business.
I guess main incentives are the project and what he can achieve here after his stint on Ukraine.

And of course the wage
