How did we get on on the U23 Denmark tour ?
not sure if 1 match or 2...
No injuries I hope
-
At HT U23s winning 1-0 vs Norwich.
Opening game of their season and it is at the Besot/Banks' stadium.
Mooney scored on 36th - according to live text feed on the Meaning Evil.
-
2-0 now, Mooney again, penalty.
-
Mail feed says Gary Shaw and Chris Nicholl are watching from the Press box.
Villa's American midfielder on as a sub has an interesting name - Indiana Vassilev.
-
This bit from the OS answered a question I was thinking.
"A significant sub-plot from the game was who wasn't present, as much as who was. Steve Bruce is set to rotate for Tuesday night's Carabao Cup clash with Yeovil Town, where he's traditionally turned to our Young Lions and given them opportunities.
Of the regular U23 stars, Easah Suliman, Jake Doyle-Hayes and Harry McKirdy were absent – meaning they could well feature at some point at Huish Park."
-
Quite a good performance tonight with a young team. Bit disappointing that Mich Clark won't be in the squad tomorrow.
Team was Sarkic in Goal - Clark, Bazeley-Graham, Bedeau, Revan. Cox, Prosser, Clarke, Rowe. Mooney Knibbs.
Clark and Clarke looked several divisions better than the rest of the Team I would say.
I hope those two plus Jake Doyle-Hayes, Hepburn-Murphy, Andre Green, Callum O'Hare, Easah and Harry McKirdy are either loaned out or with the first Team Squad so don't get to play many reserve games this season.
If that is the case it will be a very hard season with a very young squad but the players mentioned need to progress this season and push for a first team place. I reckon 5 of those players will make it to be at least regulars for a Championship level club.

I've said a few times, Jack Clarke is the one for me. I like Bazeley-Graham as well.
-
Cam has fractured a toe on hard ground training but should be back in a week or so. His older brother Jordan should hopefully be involved in Bury's matchday squad this weekend.
-
U23s v ManUre this evening.
-
From OS Twitter link. 1-1 at present. Mooney scored Villa equaliser.
-
Harry McKirdy stretchered off just before half time though, sounds like a bad one.
-
In answer to paul_e, I really like watching Jack Clarke play and He has improved enormously in the last four years but a lack of pace I fear, will hold him back. I hope I am wrong and I think He will make it at lower league level but if you are not a physically strong player you have to have exceptional talent to play in the top two divisions.
As for Bazeley-Graham I am not confident He will play above non league level. He did have a bad injury last year and missed most of the season though.
In my opinion the best player to come through the youth system since Jack Grealish is Mitch Clarke (just edging out Callum O'Hare) He had a great debut for Port Vale yesterday playing out of position at left back.
MOM in a national newspaper and the vale fans were very impressed by him.
-
I went to watch the U18s yesterday morning at Bodymore. We beat Fulham 2-0.
Now the club in its wisdom have stopped supplying Team Sheets so as it was the first game of the season and as we have a new crop of U18s I am not sure exactly who was playing except for a few I have seen before.
Last season we struggled as the Team consisted of players who were U17s mainly. This season we might do a bit better as we are mainly U18s. The Team played some lovely football with Lewis Brunt outstanding in midfield.
Big centre forward who I think is Sea headed our first goal and we scored a second goal from a substitute who did very well when He came on.
I liked the GK who is massive and the big Centre Back. Jake Walker, Indianna Vaselev, Jay Ramsey and Lewis Brunt were very good in midfield and Sea and Tait were good up front.
Walker, Ramsey and Brunt might be three players to keep an eye on for the future.
-
Mitch Clark gone on loan to Port Vale. Was apparently MOTM for them on debut.
Think he's got a decent chance of making it.
-
Colin Odutayo the young dutch kid got the second goal against Fulham
-
I haven't seen a lot of Colin as I missed a few games after an op last year. I saw him maybe 4 times and I might be imagining it, but he looked a bit "heavy" on Saturday.
We play Reading U18s tomorrow and I will have another look at him if He plays.
The big Centre back was Ethan Patterson who I did see last year, pretty good player.
Probably only watch an hour as I have to get to the first team game.
I am looking forward to watching Lewis Brunt again. Very tall but slight midfield player with a nice range of passing and good touch. He is also very quick.

U23's live on youtube now, 1-0 up
Any idea of the line up?
-
Finished 2-1 to Villa. An own goal from Fulham's Skipper and a goal from Sub Jordan Cox won it for us.
Sarkic made a bad mistake for Fulham's equaliser.
Team was :
Sarkic.
Walker - Bedau - Bazely-Graham - Revan
Lyden - Doyle-Hayes - Clarke
O'Hare - Mooney - Knibbs
Youth Team beat Reading on Saturday 4-2. Goals from Ramsey 2, Tait and Sea.
-
You can watch the under 23 game on YouTube
I watched about 20 mins. Fulham looked a fair bit better than us but obviously a good result
Didn't think anyone looked first team ready. O'Hare is obviously coming back from injury so harsh to judge him. Though I see he was again written up by the Mail as a shining light, which did make me wonder about all the other times I read he was outstanding. He was disappointing when I saw him two or three times at the end of last season
Did play well in the first cup game last year tho. Needs a loan for me. Can't see him troubling the first team anytime soon.

We really have a player called "Sea"?!
-
Shore we do.
-
We really have a player called "Sea"?!
Yep - Dimitri - signed Summer 17. Hopefully, in the future, we will hear the Holte chant "Dmitri, Dimitri, give us a wave!" ;D ;D
" Bertrand Rebours is the technical director of Athletic Club Boulogne-Billancourt [ACBB] – the largest amateur club in France with over 1500 members – and attended an under-13 tournament six years ago hoping to bag himself a couple of young talents to be developed within his academy, but one boy shined brightest. Speaking exclusively to the Birmingham Mail, Rebours said: "He was much smaller than the others but I was immediately attracted by his qualities of speed to reach the goal and his collective intelligence.
"I thought he was 12 and it was not bad. Upon seeing his educator he told me he was only 10 years old and he was upgraded. So it became a priority for me. Rebours explained: "I believe that all the French professional clubs have spotted Dimitri in match but none followed after a three day or a week trial with their players. They did not understand that Dimitri is raw and must be seen in competition. He's not a training player, he's a match killer.
"He has a spontaneous technique, he goes fast, he jumps up, very good head play, an incredible strike and an impressive collective sense.
"When you have Dimitri in your team you know you can win at any time. He is a rare scorer, he just needs a ball to find the net.

I’m more concerned we have a player called Tait.

Shore we do.
Did he come through the academy or did we have to shell out for him?

Does he work hard or just coast through games?

1-2 with 5 minutes to go.
-
Nice to see 6 Under 18s in the reserves squad.
I watched the youth team on Saturday morning winning 7-1 against Norwich.
Unfortunately my joy in watching that was totally ruined by the First Team losing in the afternoon.
The whole purpose of the youth team is to provide players for the first team and nothing more.
It follows that if you have a good crop you will be successful at youth level but a poor team with one outstanding player is better than a successful team with nobody making the first team.
Contrary to popular belief the club are always aware of this.
-
The match was good - the commentator was superb - a cross between Test Match Special and Stuart Hall
-
Villa Ladies are currently losing 6-0 at half time against Man Utd.

10-0 now - 30 minutes to go.

I’m at the ladies game now. It’s currently 12-0

I’m at the ladies game now. It’s currently 12-0
Blimey. Does the Ladies manager play the defence out of position too?
-
Crowd of over a 1000 to see the ladies edged out 0.12

Most unladylike Shirley?
The gentlemen would have taken the foot off the pedal after 6 like Liverpool at Villa Park a few years ago. They could have scored a baker's dozen. Gabby had a bout of vertigo, though, so maybe they thought more of our players would go down dizzily and get the match abandoned Warnock stylee.

The youth team beat top of the table West Ham at Bodymore today 1-0 with a late goal from Colin Odatayo.
A very good game that could have gone either way and I must admit I thought West Ham would probably nick it at the death.
Just shows how much age matters at youth level. Last year this Team were basically an U17 Team playing a year above their age group. They hardly won a game, but a year on, they are doing very well against Teams the same age.
Some good kids in this Team.
-
U23s are away at sunderland currently, 1 up with about 18-19mins to go.
-
All over, won 1-0 Knibbs with the goal.
-
Wasn't a particularly great game but we had a few good chances from what I saw. As is almost expected now I was very impressed with Jack Clarke again, just seems to be good at everything you'd expect from a central midfielder, no fireworks or hollywood passing, just moves the ball well, has great control, defends solidly and works his bollocks off. He's got a decent shot on him as well, I'd be working him into the squad soon to get him some game time.
-

I most definitely am. I am sure we will.

Good performance, so far.
-
Live on you tube. O'Hare very impressive.
-
Good performance, so far.
Bit of a hammering 3-0 with 5 mins to go unti lhalf time and we've missed 2-3 really good chances as well.
The first from Cox was a lovely goal, moved the ball really well, the other 2 were, in my opinion, as much due to poor defending and goalkeeping as good play, we're miles better than them and it shows.
-
4-0 now
-
I'm not watching it but whenever I've seen Jordan Cox, he looks like he could be the next one to break through.
-
Knibbs good assist for fourth. Agree about Cox.
-
4-0 now, cox, taylor, o'hare x2 and half time.
Their centre half has just rugby tackled o'hare to stop him getting away, only yellow (which was probably fair) but it sums the game up, they've been chasing shadows.
I'm not watching it but whenever I've seen Jordan Cox, he looks like he could be the next one to break through.
I like Cox but I'm not sure what type of player he is yet. I've said a few times that Jack Clarke is my pick and I think he's been excellent again tonight, nothing spectacular but just does everything well.
-
5-0 hatrick for O'Hare.
-
5-0 hatrick for O'Hare.
Let's gift him on loan. Forget he may be great as a sub.

-
I will be going to both the Bristol City and Plymouth away games in the new year. Looking forward to seeing the u23's play.
-
6-0 Knibbs.
-
Lovely goal.
-
7-0 Knibbs again.
-
please keep up.
-
8.
-
8-0 French lad whose name I can't spell.
-
Brilliant header by Sea for the 8th, fantastic ball in. Commentator as very proud of himself for 'sea rising well' you could hear the grin.
-
7-0 Knibbs again.
Good eh, Mr Shelley?
Joy to watch.
-
I feel a bit for Sarkic there, someone really should've taken him an ipad or something.
Our midfield in particular completely dominated them, 8-0 really didn't flatter us.
-
7-0 Knibbs again.
Good eh, Mr Shelley?
Very good indeed. Bristol didn't seem much cop but that's not taking anything away from our lads. They thoroughly destroyed them. I was very pleased with the fitness levels, the first team need to be looked after by who ever is training the kids.
-
de la Ney.

Paul e raves about Jack Clarke and when I saw him v Brighton in the play off final I was underwhelmed but in the short spell I watched tonight I was very impressed .
I was impressed by how quickly the young lads moved the ball and how they worked to provide passing options.Welldone Mark Delaney.

Most of the kids were disappointing in the play off final, I think they just had too many games close together towards the end of the season and they looked flat.
-
Biggest win at Villa Park for a Villa team since Bristol City were stuffed 5. How they must hate coming to Villa Park

Don't like quoting myself but I wanted to check how much they ended up playing and it was 6 games is 19 days including one that went to penalties before before a week break into the final. I remember thinking at the time that it felt like they were playing all the time but that really is a horrible schedule to go into a cup final and play off final, victims of their own success really.
-
I was really underwhelmed when I watched games at the end of last season but perhaps that was tiredness per the above
From what I saw the pace and fluidity was very good last night
Bristol looked shit tho. Given the bloated nature of our squad I still think loans are the best option for these guys
-
A "youthful" Villa team are playing Coleshill in the Birmingham Senior Cup tonight.
EDIT: 1-0 up at half-time.
-
It ended Coleshill 2 Villa 4 Sea 2 Cox and Knibbs were the scorers .I was surprised to see it was in the Birmingham Senior Cup .Anyone got any idea of why after many years of not being in we are this season?
-
They got sick of all those letters from Dave Cooper.
-
Perhaps slightly related to the thread-topic, I notice that Callum Robinson is in the startng line-up for the RoI tonight: is he another of those that "got away"?
-
This evening at HT U23s losing 2-4 to Newcastle at the Banks's. O'Hare scored both Villa goals.

Stratford Town away in the BSC.

Cheers Dave,i have been trying to find out who we had drawn

When both teams agree - the BSC isn't very high on anyone's priorities so they tend to get stuck on when the home team has a free week.

Even if they're only training with the first team this week, what a breath of fresh air that is. Sends the signal that you can win your place in the first team, rather than win a loan out to some far-flung league one side.
-
Also no Corey Taylor,Bree and Hepburn Murphy who i presume is injured again
-
Well done to the U23 tonight. In what was basically our U18 team to draw against a West Brom side which had 5 or 6 first team players playing was a great result .
-
Indiana Vassilev has been my favourite player since I found out that he exists this evening. Looking forward to seeing him play. If he's any good then that will be a bonus.

He's a young American who was really highly rated over there, he was supposed to be a bit of a coup when we got him.
-
Jordan Cox scored for the U23'. He seems to have an eye for goal and looks quite handy the few times I've seen him play. One to keep an eye on I reckon.

He certainly is rated by the people who follow the whole USMNT setup. I have a particular interest as he was born (to Bulgarian immigrant parents ) in Savannah Ga - about 25 miles from where I live.

Man Utd U17s 0 - 4 Aston Villa U17s
Cam with a hat-trick.

Well done Cam Its a nice feeling to beat United at any level

Who's Cam?

Cameron Archer. Check back a page or so. Or the similar threads archived from previous seasons.

Check out our FB Page. I'll post something on here tomorrow.
-
Someone who watches every Villa team (pooligan knows him) told me yesterday that he reckons this season's under-eighteens are a vintage crop.
-
Great to hear that Cam is still knocking them in through the age groups.
Hopefully Leeg he will keep this going all the way to the first team.

In amongst all the doom and gloom I’ll say my daughter went to a Villa training camp today, it was brilliant and she and the others loved it, I’ve been of the opinion that others have overtaken us locally at youth level but I can’t fault the club, they were fantastic.
-
Under 23's game is quite entertaining. 3-3 at half time. Bree has weighed in with a couple and Lansbury is playing. Live on yow tube if anyone fancies watching it.
-
3-4!
-
Finished 4-5.
-
On that showing I don't think Lansbury can have too many complaints about not being part of the first team. Going forward we looked good but the defence was a mess. RHM scored our 4th, was really well taken.
-
Nor Bree - despite the two goals. Very poor defensively
I like O'Hare a lot. But for me it's the flash of quality that RHM often shows that is most exciting. I've seen several goals like that where his foot movement makes him look like he's on fast forward
He just keeps getting injured.

I think the entire defence was poor today, it shows how much they've been reliant on Suliman over the last few years that they look so disorganised without him.
-
Only saw the last 35 minutes and in that time the only noticeable contributions from Lansbury was the slowest walk ever to take a corner with ten minutes to go and while losing 3-4 and another half hearted corner which hit the first man
Utter bobbins. That's a man who no longer loves playing football.
-
The ladies comfortably beat Millwall 2.0
Their first win of the season I was told, could have been a lot more with a bit of composure in front of goal. Brilliantly worked first one, slightly jammy second
-
Seeing that the U23 have conceded 5 in each of the last two home matches ,maybe JT needs to coach the U23 as well
-
The U23 team are playing Derby County in the PL Cup at Loughborough University this evening.
-
Aston Villa U23: Sarkic, Walker, Rowe, Bazeley, Bedeau, Clarke, Taylor, Doyle-Haynes, Hepburn-Murphy, Prosser, O’Hare.

Is the Russian training with the first team squad at the moment? I heard Smith namecheck some of the other kids that have been invited over to the fancy side of the fence at Bodymoor but he didn't mention Hepburn.
-
I think he shares the same physiotherapist's room as the first team! I think he made an appearance as sub? The other night for the U23's.
-
Aston Villa U18s 2 Brighton U18s 1
Cam with the winner.

Who did he namecheck? I know the coaching team have been to watch Mitchell Clark and are keeping close tabs on him.

Edit

He mentioned O'Hare and I think Jake Doyle-Hayes and maybe one other.

RHM perhaps? All 3 are presumably on the fringes of being involved.

RHM seems to be perpetually injured.

It wasn't RHM that he mentioned as I was listening out for his name.

RHM is currently injured -because Derby kicked him off the park in midweek!!

Academy League Today.
Villa 5 - 1 Southampton.
Good performance this morning from the Youth Team.
Lewis Brunt was fouled just inside the area in the first minute to give us a Penalty which Colin Oduteo put away confidently. On 3 minutes Brunt scored with a Left footed shot from outside the area to make it 2-0.
On 10 minutes Jacob Ramsey made it 3-0 with Villa playing some fantastic football and totally dominant.
Unfortunately Brunt, who had made a great start, suffered what looked like an ankle injury at this stage and had to be replaced by Indianna Vasilev.
Villa continued their domination and were awarded a second penalty after half an hour which Wright dispatched confidently.
4-0 at half time but Saints scored with a free kick early in the second half and the game became much more even
With ten minutes remaining a great through ball from Substitute Ben Guy enabled Oduteo to take round the keeper and roll into the empty net for a fifth Villa goal.
Outstanding performances from Ethan Patterson at the back, the always excellent Jake Walker playing in midfield instead of his U23 possition at Right Back and Jay Ramsey. After signing his first Professional contract this week Lewis Brunt started the game brilliantly so hopefully his injury won't be too bad.
Team was: GK ?
Burton - Ige - Patterson - Conky
Ramsey - Walker - Brunt
Wright - Cam Archer - Oduteo
Subs Vaselev for Brunt
Presley for Archer
Guy for Wright.
We are at home to Swansea in the FA Youth Cup early in December.

Aston Villa's Jordan Cox inflicts first defeat for Plymouth Argyle in Premier League Cup
The Pilgrims had drawn their opening two games 0-0 but were unable to do the same at Villa Park
ByJak Ball
Updated20:59, 30 NOV 2018
Plymouth Argyle suffered a first defeat in the Premier League Cup group stage as they fell 1-0 to Aston Villa.
The Pilgrims were under pressure for large spells of the game but they defended resolutely throughout.
Villa could have taken the lead in just the second minute as Corey Blackett-Taylor rounded Michael Cooper but shot wide.
That was a sign of things to come as him and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy caused the Pilgrims problems with their pace.
They were complimented by Harry McKirdy and Jordan Cox, who also looked lively.
Argyle had chances of their own though and they were the side that came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half.
Alex Battle, who was probably one of the most impressive for Kevin Nancekivell's side, sent in a corner which was headed towards goal and cleared off the line by Blackett-Taylor.
Villa continued to pressurise the Argyle goal in the second half, with Cooper making a number of good saves from efforts from outside the box.
The decisive goal came in the 71st minute, Hepburn-Murphy jinked his way into the box band was dispossessed.
However the home side came back, this time the ball was crossed over the heads of the Argyle defence by Jack Clarke.
The ball reached McKirdy who iplayed across the box to Cox who slotted it home with relative ease.
Argyle pushed for the equaliser in the final moments of the game but rarely tested goalkeeper Matija Sarkic.

Don’t remember hearing Revan get mentioned before but he was on the bench tonight.
-
I have mentioned him.
He is still an U18 player but has been playing for the U23's this season. He is a Centre Back who is very quick and quite comfortable on the ball. As He is playing against players several years older than himself we have been playing him at Left Back in the reserves.
We have another U18 player who plays mainly for the reserves as well at Right back called Jake Walker.
Dom and Jake are really good prospects.
I always support the young players at the club but some of the hyped ones are not as good as Internet supporters think they are.
These two have a chance though. Jake is the captain of the Youth Team and sometimes plays as a defensive Midfielder.
-
Lovely chipped pass from Jack Clarke to set up the winner last night. This lad looks like a really good player.
-
Thanks Larry. You've got me wondering about who's been hyped that might not be as good as they're meant to be. RHM perhaps?
-
Lovely chipped pass from Jack Clarke to set up the winner last night. This lad looks like a really good player.
He's my favourite player in our U23s. I like him because he has that quality of always looking like he has time and space, if he can do that at senior level then he'll be a very good player. Aside from that he has all the technical skills you'd expect from a young central midfielder and seems to have a good work ethic as well.
-
Hi Paul_e.
He had one super run, beating three defenders in the first half but couldn't quite get the ball away under pressure.
Quite brilliant -a shame he doesn't have too much pace.
-
Villa U23 beat Southampton 2-1 at Villa Park tonight ,coming from behind to a own goal with goals from RHM and Jack Clarke . Must admit i was surprised to see they actually played with the first team playing at the Albion
-
We beat Southampton 2-1 last night at Villa Park. I wasn't at the game for obvious reasons but a late RHM winner after going behind.
I went to Bodymore this morning and witnessed a fantastic U18 Cup Tie against Derby. We lost 4-2 against a full strength Derby who have been flying in the Northern section this season.
Our Team was much changed as we have the FA Youth Cup 3rd Round game against Swansea at Villa Park on Tuesday night. At this level age makes a lot of difference and The Rams threatened to take us apart and scored three early goals. Villa hung in and got back into the game with a Ben Guy goal.
Second half was a different story with us getting on top and a great move involving Aaron Presley (son of Steven)
sent Charlie Farr down the right wing to pick out Michael Tate to score a second goal and put us right back in the game.
Chances at both ends and the game became quite feisty but 2 minutes from the end Derby scored a fourth goal to finally end our comeback.
Very entertaining morning.
Now my usual moan. This game was not advertised on the Official Website and Tuesdays game has had no mention either. Also we have been drawn away in the Birmingham Senior Cup at Hednesford but again nothing on our website.
Tuesday will be a big night for our youngsters so a good crowd at Villa Park would be great.
-
In answer to OCD I think Hepburn Murphy is a good prospect. I wasn't initially sold on him as he can be a bit Head down but He has some good strengths, one of which is scoring goals when not playing that well.
It is more that people like Suliman is touted as a prospect when I can't see it. Also Fonzy was touted as the new Drogba by an ex poster on here. I loved his posts but it made me doubt if He was ever at Bodymore actually watching him.
Over the years it is usually players we have signed from abroad that get the "Going to be great" treatment because it is a bit glamorous to have a Spanish Midfielder. In the flesh the local lads are just as good and often better.
Paul_e has picked out Jack Clarke. He is one of my favourite players and improved enormously in his first year as a YTS. I just hope his lack of pace doesn't hold him back.
Best current U18s in my opinion would be Jake Walker, Dominic Revan, Lewis Brunt and Jay Ramsey.
-
It was Jack Clarke who scored the winner last night against the saints Larry RHM scored the first .The coverage of the U23/U18 leaves a lot to be desired There has been no coverage of last nights game ,i managed to follow the game on the Saints Twitter page and they showed all the highlights I have no idea what the full Villa team was ,from what i could see i know Sarkic Bedeau Clarke and HMB played
-
Academy League Today.
Why didn’t Oduteo take the (second) penalty?
-
How did Cam do? I've seen the Swansea game and his goal as well as the ones he scored against Newton Heath.
-
U18s FA Youth Cup v Swansea City on Tuesday. 7pm KO. Pay on gate. Cam should be playing.

Derby U18s 3 Aston Villa U18s 2
-
I always suspected nobody read my posts :(
-
In answer to Legion. Cam is playing a year up and hasn't quite established himself as one of the leaders of the group yet. His hat trick against ManU was in his own age group. He has done quite well though and an injury held him back earlier this season.
We rested a few players against Derby on Saturday and that would be because of the FA Youth Cup game on Tuesday. The fact that He didn't start on Saturday makes it likely He will be starting or on the Bench on Tuesday night. Clubs usually field their strongest U18s in this cup and Dom Revan and Jake Walker should be back in the Youth Team tomorrow.
I think He came on as sub for the last ten minutes on Saturday.
-
All correct. He did. He is starting tomorrow

On Clarke, I agree he's not got that extra burst of pace but he reads the game really well from what I've seen so I think he'll be ok. I agree on Revan, he's a big lad and has a fair bit of pace, which are always nice starting points. Needs to work on his technical skills and get a bit more comfortable on the ball but playing at left back will help him with that, definitely a centre half though. Walker looks superb young player as well but I've not seen much of the others, is Ramsey the one who's scored a few from midfield this year?

Good goal after about a minute, then we gave away a penalty that was very well saved. Cam has been ok but he's a bit isolated, Odutayo looks a massive threat on the right and Ramsey and Vassiliev are busy, impressed by all 3 of them.
-
Cam with the run and shot which was saved then put in by the number 7. Not getting much service at the moment.
-
Not a great game at the moment, defences on top but we're probably edging it on chances.
-
Cam is definitely a talent, and looks very strong given he's one of the younger players on the pitch.
-
#avfc 2-0. Cam Archer with a bit of a deflection.
-

He turned 17 at the weekend.
-
Now 3.
-
His hold-up play and lay-offs are excellent. Just needs a bit better service. His goal has now been classed as an OG to the Swansea player.
-
Great through ball from Cam at the start of the second half. Shocking finish from the number 10.
-
What a fkn goal!!!
-
4!
-
Brilliant goal that, Ramsey is raw but looks a great talent.
-
4-1.
-
Like the look of Indiana Vassilev, bit of a cross between Sid and Barry Bannon
-

Yeah, him and Ramsey have been very good, 2 best players on the pitch for me.
-
Just caught the last five minutes - who was the attacker playing wide-right for us? Received the ball in tight spaces very comfortably and used great skill to deliver into the box.
-
Gutted for Cam. His goal was taken off him and classed as an OG. His hold up and lay off play tonight was exceptional. Just a shame he did not get the right service.

They seemed to be playing 3 at the back which meant they always had a spare defender so he was struggling to find space (but it meant Wright and Odutayo got loads of space either side of him). He did well and the ball definitely started coming back quicker once he went off.
-
First and second goals now on our FB Page.
-
First and second goals now on our FB Page.
Saw one of the others on facebook too. Absolutely beautiful team goal.

What a thing of beauty that is. Now with Smith at the head, all our teams can play a similar system so it'll be easier to integrate the young guns into the first team.

U23 players are allowed to play in youth games for their club, it's normally used to stop players getting no game during the loan but he's been recovering from injury with us so I guess this is part of his recovery as he was a regular for them.

I was on about the goalie.
-
Stoke U23 2 Villa U23 0 at half time .We just dont seem to be able to get the better of Stoke no matter what level we play them .Following the game o the Stoke website it sounds like we have been totally outplayed so far
-
You have to be Under 18 to play in a Youth game.
U23s on loan can come back and play for their parent club. It is very rare that U18s are loaned out. I can't remember it ever happening although it may have.
I'm pleased if Mitch is playing although it must be a bit of a culture shock for him. Prior to his injury He was a main player at Port Vale and came on as sub on Saturday.
-
Russian Hepburn Murphy scores again .1-2 With about 15 to go
-
As i was saying we just don't seem able to get the better of the Potters .We pulled it back to 2-2 then conceded a late goal to lose 3-2

Under 23's are live on You Tube against Man Utd at the moment. Davis has put us 1 up.

1-1 now, not great defending.
Watching the stream on youtube Ifind it hilarious that you get Baggies and Blues fans on there, how sad a life do you have to have to spend your monday evening watching reserve team football of teams that you don't support just so you can have 'bantz'.

Was thinking that myself, bizarre!
-
Watching it. The commentator seems a bit biased towards MU.
I think we look good and they have more set piece awareness.
-
2-1 Brilliant goal from the Russian.
-
RHM has really got some pace hasn’t he, that’s a great goal. But he’s head doesn’t seem quite right to me and lacks concentration

Good pace and he's great at going round the corner like that if a defender gets too tight.

Man U down to 10 men, left back off for a 2nd yellow. Was a fucking stupid challenge when he was on a booking.

And Jack Clark has the look of Jack Wilshire about him
I've been a big fan of him for about a year, moves the ball around really well and works his tits off. Has a decent shot on him as well.
-
3-1 now Mooney. Bedau and Revan look like they both have the makings of ball playing CBs
Bedeau and Revan both have a mistake in them (like all young centre backs) so it's all about getting them some experience playing again better players. Both could have a decent future though and Smith clearly likes Revan given he's been on a bench a few times recently.
-
4-1 Cox, smashed into the near top corner from about 10 yards, lovely finish.
-
That’s 5, have to say I have quite enjoyed watching this. Paul e have you noticed a difference since Dean has come in and now Delaney is managing them?
-
5-1 own goal from an o'hare free kick.
-
We're on our way back.
Well done boys.
-
Only watched last 10 mins or so but the fluidity, passing and movement is delightful, they need however to experience the more combatitive environment of league football.
-
Superb result
-
Very fine result. Only saw the second 45 personally but you can't argue with 5 goals. Not sure any player actually stood out though truth be told
-
Great result for Villa reserves .It is always good to beat any United team but to thrash them 5-1 is sweet .Well done boys.
-
Crisp accurate passing, good to watch. Unlike the first team....
-
RHM with a nice goal here. Surely one day he will be fit enough long enough to play a serious role in our future. So much talent.

Paper talk that Charlton and Coventry are both interested in taking him on loan for the rest of the season.
-
Poor lad doesn’t deserve to be sent to Coventry.
-
What an enjoyable evening that was. Villa fans ole as the lads ran rings around Man U and the plastic mancs leaving before we finished scoring.
-
If RHM is to go out on loan i hope it is Charlton and not those Villa haters down the A45 .
-
Mentioned in the Davis thread that o'Hare made a big difference because he created space and played between the lines. If he'd been allowed to go on loan last year (along with RHM) I think we'd be in a much better place now because they'd know how much more physical first team football is and have had 6 months working on it. JDH should've gone out in the summer as well but Bruce seemed to want to kep these lads at the club but then refused to give them any game time so they've just stalled in their progress.
-
Watched the re run this morning very impressed with how we played.
-
Can RHM just stay fit for a few weeks/months please? Because he’s so much a better option off the bench than Hogan...
-
They need loans, except Davis.
Agree rhm, ohare looked promising. But it's just not thay competitive. Some proper mens football will sharpen them up
-
For some reason, I'm desperate for RHM to come good for us. Haven't felt that way about a prospect since Luke Moore, just seem to have fallen for the black Russian.
-

I really want him to make it because there's a spark of quality there, his goal on Monday was superb.

U23s are away to Norwich right now but I can't find the line up anywhere.

Out on loan for the rest of the season.
-
Typical Villa U23 this season .After thrashing United 5-1 on Monday they manage to lose to Norwich 2-1 .It was the first win in 13 games for Norwich
-
Isn't losing away to Norwich just evidence that they're ready for the first team?
-
Went to watch the Youth Team on Saturday 12 O'Clock KO against Arsenal at Bodymore.
I would have put a report on earlier probably but the First Team result ruined my Weekend once again and I have not had the heart to log in to Heroes until now.
I would guess there are several more Villa Fans that avoid the website and all talk of the Match for a day or so after such a disappointing result. I am old enough to know better but it still hurts me to my very soul when we lose.
Give me a day or so to recover and I will be back as optimistic as ever.
If others feel the same as I do when we lose and want their Villa fix without the heartache I would recommend they start watching the Junior Teams.
It is all about player development so although I want us to win, winning isn't all that matters. We lost to Arsenal but it isn't the end of the world and I enjoyed Ben Guy in Midfield.
So I got home at 2.30 having watched a Villa defeat but still in a good mood. Three hours later, after losing at Wigan in embarrassing circumstance's I was devastated and in a foul mood.
So I would recommend that if you have had enough of the shit this club puts you through focus your attention on the Youth and U21s, we usually win, you can park outside the ground and you are not too upset if we lose.
Meanwhile I will ignore my own advice no doubt.
-
The biggest concern for me whenever we discuss our academy is why we seemingly have such a big disparity between that level and the first team. We’ve had lots of players who have made it in the game but generally elsewhere. And I get it at PL the jump up is much greater so will take longer. But now in the Championship we have to develop more players who can step in to offset poor form or injuries. That and take more risks. The game the other night highlighted that. 5-1 vs Man U in the U23’s yet at Championship level not one of those players is legitimately considered an option for a struggling first team. That needs to change.
-
If DS does not feel that any of the U23's are worth bothering with and at the moment that seems very true, then get rid of the lot of them, wipe the slate clean and start again. Currently it is just a waste of a lot of money which is achieving bugger all!

I'm pretty sure Cam is starting tonight.
-
-
Starts in the number 9 shirt.
-
2 brilliant goals so far, leading 2-0, odutayo and Ramsey i think
-
Didn’t see the first but the second goal was a great first touch and finish
-
3-0 at HT.
-
Ramsey looks the real deal, good to get him signed up. One or two good prospects in this team e.g Archer, Odetayo, Vasilev and the two lads at the back all look like they have a chance
-
what do they do different? I mean I know it's on youtube. But the picture and stream is great. Why so many problems with AVTV?
-

Cam (Archer) is only in his first year at that level. All the others are in their second. Yes, Ramsey does look accomplished.
-

They don't want us to experience at first hand how shit our first team are?
-
Ramsey looks a fantastic prospect, arrives late into the box and is a good finisher, he's exactly the sort of player you'd be looking for us to sign to play off Davis, could save us a fortune.
-
"He's led the line well has the Villa number 9 who's been there since he was 9."
He was there when he was 7, mate.
-
4-1 at FT.
-
That was a shocking challenge at the end there, hope Odetayo is ok
-
That Reading player should have been given his marching orders for that tackle in the last minute. No intention of playing the ball, and that looks a serious injury, I hope not.
-
That was a shocking challenge at the end there, hope Odetayo is ok
It was. I'll ask Cam's Dad how he is later.
-
A bloody awful referee, of the standard certain to get him in the championship
-
Yes, a terrible tackle, though the player apologised afterwards.
Good performance, with another fade-out after an excellent first-half.
Brilliant football at times, with Ramsey, now signed to a long-term deal, especially impressive.
-
U23s 2-0 up in the cup tonight, Mooney with his 3rd in 3 games and Doyle-Hayes with a free kick.
-
Won 3-0 with O'Hare getting the third.
-
Well done Villa U23 always nice to win well
-
Nice one lads - now it's up to the first team to earn their money
-
Is there any news on Odetayo? It looked bad on Tuesday.
-
I have been trying to find out how Odetayo is but have heard nothing.Looking at the Reading website i do know our u18 beat them again yesterday 2-1
-
Cam's Dad does not know. I think the U18s have drawn Bournemouth away in the next round.
-
Correct - the draw was pre-made in advance of the games in this round

2-0 in the 90th min

1-0 in the lead, Harvey Knibbs from a Jack Clarke through ball.
-
A big well done to the Villa U23 for winning 1-0 at Fulham tonight I thought with half the side out on loan and Bedeau sold we would struggle .Harvey Knibbs seems to have a eye for goal
-
I think it'll be interesting to see how they get on over the next few months because there's going to be a lot of U18 players stepping up a level now, if they can stay competitive despite that then it bodes well.
I just wish you could get footage of all the games at this level so we could see how they're progressing. I really want to see how Clarke looked as the main man in the midfield now JDH is on loan, I've made no secret of the fact that I think he's a massive talent and I really hope he takes this chance to become a leader.
Jacob Ramsey is the other one that I suspect will see a lot of game time and I hope he takes the chance as well, he looks a fantastic prospect.

Question on Hause, how is he going to get match fit if he doesn't get game time for the U23s?

At least he's had some game time then. I'd like to see him given a go at LB, I say that because I want Mings fit for LCB for the remainder with Chester/Elphick on the right.
-
Well done to the Villa Ladies who came back from 3-1 down to Sheffield Ladies to beat them on pens Nice to see them go further than Small Heath ladies who were knocked out by Reading

Cam is in the squad for the U23 fixture tomorrow.
-
Is he your lad Legion?
-
No. He was a regular in my school football team from when he was in Reception at the age of 5. His first match (at the permission of his parents) was in a B team game for my Y5/6 when he was still 5 years old. He came on the pitch and there was a collective, "Aah, how sweet." Thirty seconds later when he had taken the ball round most of the opposition and hit a bullet shot which their GK palmed on to the post you could have heard a pin drop. He was snatched up by the Villa when he was 6 for their U7s. I was also his class teacher when he was in Year 5 and 6. I have kept tabs on him for years thanks to his Dad and been to BMH numerous times to watch him.

Correct.

Before the game against Derby yesterday I had a trip to Bodymore to watch the Youth Team play against Chelsea.
Chelsea tend to beat everyone at youth level and I was expecting a heavy defeat.
We lost 1-0 and it was rather against the run of play. We played very well and were slightly the better Team but unfortunately missed two penalties.
Outstanding performances from Mungo Bridge, who has been out injured for a few months and also from Indiana Vasilev. Jack Birch has also been in plaster for a while and He played very well in the holding midfield role.
This might be common knowledge but it was news to me. Apparently Mungo has signed a Pro Contract but AC Milan had offered him a deal to join them. Good lad He decided to stay with us.
He is a 6ft tall left footed Centre back. He played left back in the academy under age teams whenever I watched him but as He has got older the club has converted him to a centre back.
-
Always good to hear this stuff!

I didn't know it was AC Milan I saw quite a few posts that he'd had some very good offers elsewhere and turned them down, hopefully we can do a decent job of progressing him now, the only problem is that we seem to have a fair few left centre backs, with Revan ahead of him and Hause and Mings looking good in the first team.
-
You're dead right, Paule, we have far too many left-sided centre-backs.
Bring back Bruce!!!

Any match reports available?
-
From the o/s.
Aston Villa U23s moved five points clear inside the Premier League 2 Division 2 Play-Off places after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Sunderland at Banks's Stadium.
Substitute Alex Prosser buried a penalty into the bottom corner with 15 minutes to play to seal all three points for the Young Lions.
It came after a goalless first 75 minutes in which Lewis Brunt had three good chances, but could only hit the post at best with one of them.
Villa have just four league matches to play before the end-of-season Play-Offs, and currently occupy the last spot available, in fifth.
Making the grade
The transition of a number of exciting youngsters into the U23s continues.
Lewis Brunt, Tyreik Wright, Cameron Archer and Jacob Ramsey were all saved by U18 coach David Hughes against Chelsea at the weekend, in order to be involved against Sunderland.
The four prospects have stepped up over the last month following the departure of a number of key U23 players on loan, and now look at home in the starting XI at this level.
Dean Smith, Richard O'Kelly and John Terry were in the stands once again at Banks's Stadium on Monday night to monitor that progress for themselves.

Were our ladies side fully pro when the mens were in the PL?
Also, is David Hughes, the youth coach, the same one we had in the 90's who made a few centre back appearances (including, if I recall, a fine performance in a 1-0 win over Liverpool?).
-
I don't think so, but not 100%.
And yes, the same one.

Interesting, ta. I know it doesn't mean much in the moneyed world of modern football but having the likes of Delaney and Taylor (and Sid of course for many years) still at the heart of a club they played for gives a nice feeling as a supporter.

Cam played very well. He had a 15 minute spell at the start of the second half when He ran Wolves ragged.
I haven't seen a lot of him. He has been injured and He has done okay when I have watched him but looked like a youngster with potential playing up a couple of years.
It is obvious that Villa rate him and He is already a regular in the U23s when He will still be an U18 next year.
That is very rare.
Tonight I could see why He is rated so highly. Long way to go but He will get stronger and He looks a natural Goalscorer.

They're an anomaly - imagine a new club with Manchester City-type wealth buying world-class players then starting out in the Championship.

They'll compete for the title next season. Our girls have generally done quite well in the last few months. They are on a different planet to us, financially.

Yeah, I just checked the league, they have goal difference of +69 after 16 games and have 14 wins and have had a huge (in womens football terms) budget thrown at them.

Sean Kimberly had been the Academy Manager for the last 9 years. I spoke to a couple of members of staff about it at the weekend but they didn't have much to say and I wouldn't expect them too.
They did say that it was a surprise to them and that they didn't think He got on too well with the new Director of Football.
