Title: The Lions versus the Original Lions Pointless Pre Match Thread.
Post by: kippaxvilla2 on May 02, 2018, 09:34:21 PM
A drab 0-0.

Guess the number of changes.  I’m guessing six.

I am assuming Jack is somewhere in cotton wool. I'd give Kodjia the full game to try and find some form. Rest Terry and Chester?

Couldn't care less, play the kids. The likes of Grealish and Chester should be sat at home watching Small Heath get relegated on Gillette. Only going for a last game booze up and to make the cockneys foam by singing about Wembley all game. Roll on next Saturday and Boro away.

Lansbury
McCormack
Agbonlahor
Hogan

I think I’ve interprefed the new rules regarding selection correctly.  The ten outfield players can include the 7 subs on the bench so that would mean a maximum of 6 changes from whichever squad was picked in the last weekend of March.

This game will be 5-5 for shits and giggles.  Hutton will get at least 1 of the goals.

Our first team always loses at Millwall. Our reserves definitely will. Don't let Grealish anywhere near the pitch and don't lose too heavily. Also try not to do much to antagonise the locals as I would like to get out of the ground before 9pm.

I don’t follow. It’s an 18 man matchday squad so doesn’t it mean you can move 8 players out of / into the squad? Or do you have to start a certain number?

Anyway, whatever the rules I don’t want to seee grealish, Hutton (because he’s our only LB) in particular

It is pointless and that's how we'll come away. 1-0 to them. Bruce might save a couple I reckon.

Well they outplayed our first team at Villa Park, so as to our second string  3-1 defeat.  Just can't see us getting anything from this, however history says something else.  In 1973 we went to Orient on a friday night, they needing victory to get promotion over Carlisle and what do we do score and come away with a 1-1 draw - so perhaps.

As for Jack - no way do I want to see him on the pitch, we can't afford for him to miss the play offs.

They'll be out for this. When we were locked in last time, having exhausted hop-scotch on the play ground, I was chatting to a Met officer and he was saying they always like to turn out when a big club comes down. You've got the last day of the season aspect too.

As to the team, I would deviate too much from the strongest XI.

Johnstone

Hutton
Terry
Chester
Elmo

Jedinak

Thor
Onomah

Lansbury

Kodjia
Davis

Rest Jack, Adomah, Davis and Snoddy, flood that midfield and meet them physically with Davis, Onomah and Jedinak.

I'd go:

Johnstone

Bree
Samba
Chester (c)
Clark

O'Hare
Lansbury
Bjarnason
Green

Kodjia
Hepburn-Murphy.

As there is absolutely nothing riding on this game then I would make this the first team choice (although the FA would find something wrong and punish us)

Bunn

Elmo
Samba
Terry (he needs match sharpness)
Bree

Jedinak

Hourihanne
O'Hare
Lansbury
Kodjia

Hogan

I think we should rest a few but I don't see the sense in making wholesale changes when we have the chance to go into the play offs with some momentum.

I would go with something like Johnstone - Elmohamady Chester Jedinak Hutton - Bjarnason - Lansbury Onomah - Kodjia Hogan RHM Subs - Bunn, Samba, Bree, Whelan, Hourihane, Davis, Grabban

No injuries please and a couple of goals for Kodjia would do.

Use it as a chance to give game time to some players who we might have to rely on in the play offs.  I would probably start Bunn to give him some time in case Johnstone gets an injury, give Jedinak another game at CB, give Bjarnason and Onomah a game in midfield, give Adomah a start and probably most importantly, start Kodjia up front.

We’ll probably win 5-0 with a Hutton hatrick.

With it being the PL under 23 cup final on the Friday maybe those involved may be rewarded with a place on bench but can't see them necessarily featuring apart from maybe Davies RHM or Bree. However I think have enough squad to play.

I can see Kodjia, Samba, Lansbury getting 90 mins under belts and Hogan involved too.
Maybe be a case of playing the system away from home v likelihood boro without the personnel as practice.

From what I see milwall struggle more at home and also don't finish or create chances.
I'll go for a 1-3

2-0 loss to get everyone on here confident for the play offs!

Millwall are strong at home, we won't be bothered about this and will put out a scratch team, would be surprised if we got anything.

Do they always leave that lower tier empty behind the goal with the away fans? Dunno if it's safety reasons so there's no segregation in close proximity but it looks shit.

I can't see us pushing ourselves too much in this one. A win going into the play off's would be nice but it's not essential. That said, I reckon it'll be a draw.
Title: Re: The Lions versus the Original Lions Pointless Pre Match Thread.
Post by: Villatillidie1982 on May 05, 2018, 12:48:46 AM
Why Mark Bunn? Worst goalkeeper I've probably ever seen at a decent level. Is Jed Steer injured again? Hutton, Chester, Terry, Grealish and Kodjia mustn't play under any circumstances but some probably will.

A win would be nice but a Fulham win and Cardiff defeat is more important.

Small Heath can rely on others to stop up.

I'd be very surprised if we get anything from this - as Brucie is shirley gonna rest the obvious suspects. I'd like to see Keinan Davis partner Jimmy Danger up front, although I'd imagine the latter will also be rested for the Play Offs. I'd cheerfully take anything other than a proper gubbing (which won't be good for moral). So come on Villa: surprise us all with an unlikely win!

After a positive first season back up I think Millwall will be keen to sign off with a home win.  Not to mention this is a classic example of the sort of away game that we tend to get out muscled in.  1-0 to them.

Absolutely roasting in that there London today, and only going to be hotter tomorrow. So a nice gentle walk around the park for 90 minutes, with none of that nasty tackling business should do us nicely.

But not given his tiredness. The boy looked fooked last night. Let him off the leash tonight, celebrate the success with a few sherberts and then have him in the squad for the game at the Riverside - his one key contribution to the first team so far was there.
