Our former midfielder's daughter,Alice, resident of Sutton Coldfield, has won gold in the gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games.Thought I'd post it here as the C.Games forum seems as popular as What I ate last night's one.Lasagne by the way.

Is that Alys Thomas you are talking about? If so I saw that earlier. Great swim and well done to her. I bet Mark is a very proud dad.

Good point, and a point well made, albeit pointedly.

Alice Kinsella.

Interesting how many of our former players tend to settle in the region even after leaving us.

Mark was only here for 18 months and then played for Walsall for a bit. Merson's still up here I think and Kevin Phillips is another who first played for a midlands club at 32 when we signed him yet is still based in the region.

Is his son still on our books?

Lewis looked a decent player to me but I think they released him the season we went down. Do t know where he ended up.

I didnt realise Lewis was his son!
I remember him being released, left back I believe. Was supposed to be a good prospect.

He’s at Aldershot now. I can’t find any reference to him being Mark’s son though, bloke told me he was when I watched him play against Boldmere.

Lewis isn't Mark's son. I remember googling that when Lewis looked like he might break through at Villa

Liam Kinsella is his son, plays right back for Walsall.

Mark was a very good player for Charlton and Ireland prior to breaking his leg pre-Villa. GT2 unfortunately read too much into his solid performances for a Roy Keane less Ireland in the 2002 WC.

I always rated him at Charlton so thought he'd be an o.k signing.

Weren't we in for Matt Holland at the same time but he didn't want to leave Ipswich?

We were. Sir Graham wanted to recreate the Ireland midfield pairing, but unfortunately got by far the weaker of the two players and not the one who was any good.

Because Matt Holland was probably the only footballer at the time apart from David Beckham whose wife was earning more than him (she owned a stud farm from memory) so he didn't want to move from Suffolk.

Heard something on the radio the other day about Mark Hughes's daughter competing in the Commonwealth Games. Decided to Google it to check I hadn't dreamt it. Turns out Xenna Hughes is playing hockey for Wales in the Commonwealth Games.
