Routine home win. Next.
-
Brilliant performance. We battled against a more talented team in every area of the pitch throughout. Grabban makes a massive difference with his ability to run in behind, and of course we are a completely different team with Grealish in it.
Surely this has got them to inspire them to go on and grab 2nd spot.
-
Rampant lion slaughters the wolf. I bet they aren't so full of themselves on MM tonight. Fucking marvellous.
-
Fucking brilliant. Best win under Bruce and Villa Park is really becoming the fortress we’ve been wishing it to be for ages. Can’t be critical of anyone. Manager set up the team brilliantly, team played with a purpose and belief that has been growing over the past few months. Tremendous leaders throughout.
Special mention to my favourite player James Chester who is superb and calm at the back and has been superb in front of goal with some critical strikes this season.
So very happy tonight.
-
Magnificent
-
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
What a fantastic result! ;D
-
Magnificent. Open first half, utterly dominant in second. A night we will long remember.
-
They scored 1. Bruce out!!!!
-
Quite simple fucking brilliant.
Everyone's played well, but if you ask me, our success is built largely on Chester and Terry, who are one of the better central defensive partnerships in the country, let alone Division 2.
-
WE'RE COMIN FOR YOU!
-
I wonder if Steve Agnew is the difference....
-
Hands up who enjoyed that?
Games like this make me think twice about actually wanting to go up, if that makes any sense. It had everything we could possibly want, the place was rocking, who cares if it was the second division?
-
That, folks, is how to send a message to the rest. Beat the best team in the Championship by three clear goals, let 'em worry about us now.
-
I wonder if Steve Agnew is the difference....
Good point.
-
I'm smirking.
-
Lovely stuff.

The best team beat the current leaders.
-
Simply superb!
-
Brilliant, one of the best wins we have had for years
-
Very pleasant viewing
-
How a-fucking-bout that.
-
Ecstacy, Bruce, ecstacy.
-
Great team effort. Everyone played their part.
-
Twenty league wins. we haven't done that since 1993. Magnificent. I'm exhausted.
-
It's been a long time since football genuinely made me feel euphorically happy. Marvellous.
-
Hilarious. Barcahampton absolutely destroyed. Another teams cup final gone up in smoke. Oh how I will laugh if they bottle this and finish 3rd. The doubts must be creeping in, that's us and Fulham doing them comfortably in the last few weeks. Squeaky bum time down at the Molinou Camp.
Villa, fantastic.
-
When I grow up, I want to be Jack Grealish.
-
Will be replaying this game very soon. What a brilliant result. A glass of wine has been poured.
-
Brilliant performance, particularly the second half, we frustrated them and managed the game so well. Predicted 1-1 before the game and I'm very happy to be wrong. I've also been critical of Bruce, but his tactics were perfect today.
-
Awesome Villa !! Absolutely superb second half. That's really dented the dog heads Champions League challenge....
-

The markets where I stand are full of dog heads. I shall enjoy Monday morning. It's only Wolverhampton Wanderers FFS. Bring on some worthy opposition.
-
I've been on the wagon since New Year's Day , but Fcuk it, I'm going to have a hangover tomorrow !
-
Just think, not only have we spoilt things for Wolves and sha fans, Sheff Weds fans are probably banging on about that handball as well. Being hated is so much more fun than being pitied.
-
James Chesters goal celebration was fantastic.
-
Very rarely post. Get the f@ck in. XXXXXXXXXXtatic
-
We are back.
-
Fuckers duly fucked.
Apparently they've only won one of their last 5. They're blowing up big style.

Too bloody true.

Where did that second half performance come from? Superb team effort and great to see Villa Park rocking. Excellent stuff.

Now I don't know what goes on behind the scenes or who has been responsible for this turnaround but we are fully in to gear now and that record is bloody wonderful after the years of pain we've been through.
To Bruce, Agnew, the players, the chairman, everyone at the club, bloody thanks, the job isn't done yet but we are enjoying football again at long last. Thanks Villa.
-

Let's aim to do it in the top division and win things!

Robert Plant, Tessa Sanderson, Bev Knight, Kevin Rowland, Noddy Holder, Meera Syal, Billy Wright... Can you hear me? Your guys took one Hell of a beating.
-
It was lovely proper lovely walking out of Villa Park tonight.
Grealish was like Cryuff at times, ghosting past players, he’s got everything in spades
-
Wonderful evening! UTV!
-
What a magnificent performance. The Wolves fans must be embarrassed to show their faces - lucky that gormless pillock printed out all those Mendes masks for them. Turns out they were a good idea after all.

Watching the game again now. Big smile on my face.
-
I may watch it a few more times
-
What an absolutely great feeling it is having won so comprehensively against the league leaders, beer is going to taste sweet again tonight. Well done all concerned. C'mon you Villa boys!
-
I have been critical of Bruce all season and don't think he should be our manager in the premiership, but the last 11 games he's transformed the squad and today was the pinnacle so far. Hope there are a few more to come.
Well done all at B6 UTV
-
Great to watch. Brilliant performance especially 2nd half. Super ball by Snoddy for the assist on the goal Grabban absolutely brilliant. Jedinak warranted his inclusion however it worked out as Bjarnason who scored a super goal came on replacing the Albert the almighty.
Bjarnason seems a simple soul not much celebrating during his outrageous goal or at then end. Despite his own shyness he was part of a team that showed great character.
Some poor challenges by wolves today who crumbled I can only imagine they did part due to the magnificent villa support wolves couldn't handle it.
What was so satisfying was way villa wanted it and their appetite to show mean business.
Super jack ruled.
Good to see lansbury run out.
(Hourihane needs to be dropped against qpr apart from stupid challenge for yellow he offered little on or off the ball)
Well played Bruce you deserved this.
Played to right tempo and owned it.
Made a great team look ordinary
Up the villa.

I've got it on repeat.

It was lovely proper lovely walking out of Villa Park tonight.
Grealish was like Cryuff at times, ghosting past players, he’s got everything in spades
I really enjoyed his performance, it was as if all the hype about Wolves being a premier league team and had these galacticos had got to him, and he thought he'd show them what a proper premier league player in the Championship looked like.
And in other news, if turn my thoughts towards player of the year, I simply cannot name an obvious candidate. And how refreshing is it, that it's because so many players have made such great contributions to the season and not because they've been a total shower. Albert, Snoddy, Chester, Terry and not to forget Johnson and Hutton too.
-
Grey fucking peas!
-
They were all excellent tonight, but I thought Elmohamady had a very strong game. Rarely gets a mention, but put his head down and did a fantastic job at right back.

-
Is the whole game repeated on Sky later? Didn't record it !
-
If only I had a Wolves mate who has given me shit all season. I'll say nothing Monday morning. Let the sod sweat and come to me. " It aye fair. Snodgrass, penalty, ref". Lovely stuff😆. Thank you Steve. Great today.

Well that shut me up!! Magnificent second half.
-
So the coaches full of Madrid wanderers left wall heath today and arrived at VILLA PARK. Once there they were led to the pitch in front of the Holte end and made to grovel for forgiveness. The mighty Holte in its wisdom refused their request and they were subjected to a beating Putin would have been proud of. The message to the dingles is quite simple... Don't ever think you are going to turn up at a shrine like VILLA PARK and win. We are ASTON VILLA...Now fuck off back to the black Country and don't come back.

Grealish for me because, whilst he hasn't played a hug amount, he's made a massive difference and turned us into a team that looks the sum of its parts.
-
Fantastic win. Today is going to be a mighty fine day.
Just seen the highlights. Snodgrass and Adomah do put in some wonderful crosses, very hard to defend against.
Barney's goal was excellent, great finish to the game.

Someone from this Parish eluded that it was a big / proper game that Villa Park hadn't staged for a while.Take the blose game and all the nonsense that goes with it out of the equation , they were right. I know we won and I had the pleasure of sitting next to the away fans in the Witton Upper , but it felt like a big game.I haven't been to a game a Villa Park with that atmosphere for a long time.

The only time I have even given a toss about Wolves was when I was eight and they took my hero Andy Gray off us and I then had to watch him win the league Cup for them. I think I even cheered them on when they were winning the lower divisions and Sherpa Van trophy under Graham Turner even though I didn't like Turner himself for being Doug's puppet/muppet and generally being crap for us. I didn't really buy into the dislike of them on here before today's game but when people say pride comes before a fall, today Wolves found out that cockiness/arrogance comes before a fall. I love the way that John Terry practically referees the game, I love the way Jack Grealish buys cheap fouls for us like Ashley Young did for us. I love the way we have slapped the noses and Wolves down. We are now savvy and streetwise as a team. We have stopped being bullied and are often the bullies. Right or wrong I know which one I prefer being. If anyone wants to post a link to any Wolves fan sites I would be happy to have a read of them.

Agreed
Never been bothered about Wolves before but their talk of champs league is just ridiculous. They were hulmilated tonight but unfortunately have enough points on the board already to ensure auto promotion

I more or less regard Wolves as the Hitchhiker's Guide regards Earth.
And both Jack and Snoddy are very good at knowing how to get the cheap fouls to relieve pressure or buy the team some time.

Brilliant stuff. Bruce didn't go negative to his credit. We were well in it at half time and I was pleased but wow what a second half. Ruthless in front of goal and solid when we needed to be. Games like this make it all worthwhile. UTV
-
Thoroughly enjoyed that. And just as important as the results, I bloody love this team! I can’t remember when I last felt this way, knowing that there are players prepared to put themselves about and show real passion. Loved Snodgrass’s reaction at the end, he is fast becoming a Villa legend.

Is it true Wolves had a meeting with the head of Championship refs about teams targeting their flair players earlier this week?
Have a look at that second half, they were taking it in terms to try to hack Grealish off the pitch. Had a good go at Snodgrass aswell.
-
I wasn't expecting that to be honest. Best 90 minutes i've seen from us in a long time, we were superb. We didnt let them play their own game and they didnt really have an answwr to it. Wonderful.

Haven’t seen it back yet but my initially verdict was that it was an even game and in the end a poor ref was decisive.
The second goal was the key point in the game, not a clue how the ref gave a foul against us for it, poor from us to concede from it but really should never have been one.
Batth was our clear weak link, as he was against Leeds to be honest, at was targeted from the first minute, poor for the first, both before the corner and then when dealing with the corner, and then for the third just seemed to be jogging back.
Should have had a pen that would have bought us back into it, again no idea how the ref came to his decision on first viewing.
Draw would have been a fair result, weren’t at our best but didn’t deserve to lose today imo.
We’ll be fine.
-
What I really liked is how when we went 2-1 we didn't drop deep and try and hold on.
I honestly think tonight was just one of those occasions when the team fed off the crowd. We get those type of games every few years e.g. Albion in the cup, Sunderland 6-1 and also Bristol City a few months back was similar.
Only issue is QPR on a Tuesday will be a little flatter so danger of a Preston type performance although Jack and Adomah should negate that.
Anyway I know plenty on here don't like the Premier league but if we want more of these occasions that's the league we simply have to be in.
-
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Wow! It's a long time since I came away from Villa Park feeling so good and so hoarse. Great game. Thought the first half was pretty even - we started the half stronger, then they dominated it for 20 minutes or so, then we finished the half strongly. Even the 'quality' of the goals was about the same. Don't know what Bruce said to them at half time but we stepped up a gear in the second half and blew them away with 3 good goals. At the end of the day we just wanted it more, and to be fair the few Dingles on the brief phone-in after the game had the same view.
-
They're right, it was a blatant pen and if it had gone to 3-2, who knows. Which makes it even sweeter that they were skanked on that after acting like bellends all week.
-
Wolves were nowhere second half. Even Neves was hitting it out of play under little pressure. First half they were good to watch and made it an enjoyable watch.
If they go up they need a much better keeper than John Ruddy. Always thought at Norwich he was one of the worst in the premier league and thought two of the goals were his fault.
-
The big teams always get those spawny 'no penalty' decisions that make the difference.
-
This forum has clearly been hijacked by Johnny come lately glory hunters. I am 100% Brummie. We have no chance of catching Wolves or Cardiff and we are merely a point ahead of a rampaging, unstoppable Fulham. The play off beckons, our deflated squad will fail to respond to the challenge and next year we will be shafted by FFP and be lucky not to be relegated.
-
Not long been back after going out for a couple of drinks after the match. Great game and great atmosphere. Thought Grealish was the best player on the pitch and although he has a few loose touches here and there, Grabban has really added something up front. Just thought we wanted it more tonight.
-
They can moan all they want about a supposed penalty not given, but have a look at Grabban having his shirt practically ripped off his back in the first half. And with the amount of 'professional' fouls they committed they were lucky to end up with no red card. Sour grapes. Anyway, we're first on that dreadful Channel 5 highlights show so I'm going to sit and smirk for a while
-
You can argue one way or another about the quality of both sides but when it comes to to experience and character they aren't anywhere near us in my opinion.
-
A massive thing for me is that in both the sha game and today, we looked like we wanted it more and were up for it more.
-
The pressure was on and the players delivered. We have a team at last who look like they want to play for the shirt and for each other. What a statement of intent. Absolutely buzzing after that.
-
😊
-
Just looked rather good on Ch5 ;D
-
I fucking love this team, every last one of them. If you could bottle a proper Aston Villa performance that was it.
-
A massive thing for me is that in both the sha game and today, we looked like we wanted it more and were up for it more.
To be fair that is a common streak with Bruce whoever he has managed - his teams seem to thrive in local derbys
-

The English language is a beautiful thing in the right hands. Marvellous.
-
What an absolutely brilliant evening that was!
Best atmosphere down at Villa Park for ages, all four sides giving it everything and absolutely ripping it out of Wolves!
Top of the League? You're having a laugh!
-
I looks like John Terry is going to earn every penny of his alleged £2m promotion bonus.
Fair play to the guy, he took low wages ,with add on's, instead of going for the money straight off.
-
They're right, it was a blatant pen and if it had gone to 3-2, who knows. Which makes it even sweeter that they were skanked on that after acting like bellends all week.
They did fuck all else though and they know it, so they can bollocks.

First half pretty even. Second half wasn't. Glad we got a fourth, transformed a comfortable scoreline into a drubbing.and an accurate reflection of the play. We are wondering when the last time we beat the top team in the league. Arsenal 20+ years ago on the last day of the season?

What a superb evening. We started off great then they equalised and looked the better team for a while. Then we came back into it and the best player of the half for me was Jack Grealish by a country mile. Second half, I think Bruce has sorted out that right wing back causing problems and we were brilliant. Jack is a proper footballer now. I would have preferred BB and Hogan, but Bruce has been spot on. I first started watching my beloved club in the old third division and love them just as much now

It was at Molineux.

After our opening goal we backed off them for a spell during which time you could see they can play. Strong finish to first half from us with Grealish a shining light. No idea of why we were so dominant second half, Wolves were made to look so ordinary. The crowd were great too, they’ll have a big part to play in the run in.
-
Cracking game. Heard a Villa fan on 6-0-6 on the way home, saying Grealish should be in the England squad for the world cup. Jeez, was Robbie Savage at his best in showing why he's more like a tabloid journalist than a broadsheet one.

On their forum they are saying that we were lucky and that the ref was on our side whilst on the other hand giving their keeper and one of their defenders a 1 out of 10 and 2 out of 10 mark respectively. Also we are jumped up and above ourselves and our manager is a fat c*nt. They also suggest that due to our luck and undeserved win their manager shouldn't have shook hands with our fat manager. Also we need to wind our necks in as we have only won the league once since 1910.
They don't mention the fact that we won the European cup whilst they were getting relegated and going bankrupt and the fact that they treat winning a few floodlit friendlies against foreign opposition in the fifties as if they were champions of Europe. But we can't mention that because we are a bunch of arrogant c*nts who need to wind our necks in.
Apart from that they have taken defeat quite well.

Been up most of the night with our dog who had a major cancer operation yesterday, only benefit was being able to be up for a 3.30am KO. Well done Villa, cheered us both up as he had a celebratory dog treat when the 4th went in.

I grew up as the only Villa fan surrounded by Dingles where we lived, and I've been absolutely relentless in the group chat this evening after putting up with their cockiness all season. Those two pics will be the cherry on the top of my verbal barrage - superb.
What a performance. We may have simultaneously derailed their waltz to the champions league and lit the spark for a huge run in - I back us to be another 12 points off by the Cardiff game. We've got to beat them - and they still have the host Wolves. There's points to be dropped all over the place!

Did you really expect anything else from these deluded morons?
They genuinely believed that all they had to do was turn up today and their team would give us a footballing lesson. Our football has done the talking and their drivel is no longer worthy of our time. Deep down, it is sinking in that they are not Barcelona mark11 after all and that the 60,000 stadium for European matches is a bit longer off than they first thought.
One thing that I would love to know though is would any of their players get into our side? Oh and also, if Neves is worth £15 million, what does that make Jack's value?

But we can't mention that because we are a bunch of arrogant c*nts who need to wind our necks in.
Apart from that they have taken defeat quite well.
As I have said elsewhere, you will have to travel a long, long way to find a Wolves fan with a sense of humour, or who can accept that their club, and anyone associated with it, has any failings whatsoever.
-
Well, what an unexpectedly brilliant evening!
In the first half, it was pretty even, with neither side getting much goalside incidents apart from the goals. Second half - wow; that is how to announce yourself to the rest of the division!
Snodgrass was immense, despite the clear intention of the WW players to target him.
Grealish is now playing the magestic, Cryuff-like role that is his destiny.
Grabban has been an important addition, since he not only runs the channels, he also roughs up the CB (something Hogan is not really equipped to do as well). The third goal was a thing of beauty.
The manager got it right; thank you.
WW were not as impressive as I’d been expecting. They might even end up in the play offs... arff, arff.
We now need to stay grounded for the QPR game, and win that.
-
On their forum they are saying that we were lucky and that the ref was on our side whilst on the other hand giving their keeper and one of their defenders a 1 out of 10 and 2 out of 10 mark respectively. Also we are jumped up and above ourselves and our manager is a fat c*nt. They also suggest that due to our luck and undeserved win their manager shouldn't have shook hands with our fat manager. Also we need to wind our necks in as we have only won the league once since 1910.

That makes the win all the more enjoyable.

They thought they only needed to turn up to teach us a "footballing lesson". Nice of us to oblige by hammering them.
They were utter shite and spent more time trying to hack our players to pieces, the dirty Tatters.
And Neves isn't fit to lace Grealish's boots. Ashley Westwood after Marbs. Utter mince, like the rest of them.
Back on your osses Dingles, you've had your day out getting smashed by the big boys on the block.
-
It's why them being denied a nailed on penalty makes it even sweeter for me. Never paid them much attention before but they really are an odd bunch.
-
Main things is that everyone at the game survived the thousands of Wolves fans in the home ends.

From my experience I would have to travel a long long way just to meet a Wolves fan, sense of humour or not. Off the top of my head I would say I have been to over a dozen different countries, lived abroad for a couple of years and spent over forty years living in the West Midlands and I reckon I have met two of the illusive buggers.
-
Thought they were a dirty bunch of cloggers! Some of their challenges were shocking, especially on Jack, Snoddy and even worse on Taylor. Serves 'em right!

I'd merely point out that they were lucky to finish second this evening.

Been up most of the night with our dog who had a major cancer operation yesterday, only benefit was being able to be up for a 3.30am KO. Well done Villa, cheered us both up as he had a celebratory dog treat when the 4th went in.
Snodgrass, Terry and Chester all superb but Grealish was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch, ran the game.
Much doggo respect to you and your pooch! Get well soon UTV
-
Based on the way they collapsed today they'll be lucky to finish second come May.
-
Even Luke Skywalker loves the Villa. Check out Mark Hammil’s Twitter.

Good comments, I thought they were slightly the better team in the first half shitting themselves when Jack had the ball. Snodgrass is a real team player, love his attitude.I wanted Hogan ahead of Grabban, like i wanted BB ahead of Jedi, I was wrong and super Brucey
-
That performance surpasses anything we saw in the 1974-75 season.
-
Felt sick during the 1st half. Losing this and no chance of automatic. Game changer if Conor had managed to catch their guy with his stupid 2 footed lunge in 1st half. Jack covers so much ground and is 100% our most important player. He really can be fantastic and I fully expect an England call up before Russia.

I was only a kid about to start infant school but if we managed to put in a forty five minute performance against a combined Albion and United side it must have been special.

When grabban signed I said I hoped he'd get 20 goals for us this season. Fair play to the fucker he''s having a go.

Wasn't the last game at Norwich meant to be something special that season?

Ecstacy, Bruce, ecstacy.
Whoosh !!

I have no voice, ringing in my ears, aching cheeks from smiling and stubble rash where some bloke behind me in the Holte planted a smacker on me when that fourth went in. Absolutely joyous.
-
For once, Monday morning working in an office in Wolverhampton can't come soon enough.
Tell them their team is very good and a very brave performance and they did well to score an equaliser and they will definitely go up through the play offs and yes they are very plucky performers and the best team we have thrashed so far this season and we much prefer them to Tesco bags. I think your Dingle colleagues would love to hear all that.
-
That performance surpasses anything we saw in the 1974-75 season.
Even second half v Albion & Manchester United?
Agreed, particularly the Albion game when we were 1-0 down. There must have been 45,000 there that day too.
To be honest once they equalised I thought Wolves were the better team in the first half. Once we were ahead though I thought we were magnificent. But generally a great team performance and some outstanding individuals, notably Jack.
Weirdly I can only recall one real save from either keeper, a save low down by Johnstone in 2nd half.
And the atmosphere was wonderful. A rocking Villa Park is a place to behold.
-

Just saw the interviews after the game. The stadium is rammed a good 3 mins after the final whistle. Love it!
-
Wasn't the last game at Norwich meant to be something special that season?
I think it’s getting very close to 74/75 level. We finished with 8 straights and yes last two games against our promotion rivals Sunderland and Norwich at 2-0 and 4-0 were special.
-
As for Wolves? That second half was as bad a performance as I've seen this season. They talk penalties (the Adomah one wasn't - it happened two yards in front of me and they collided), but they should have had two off for challenges on Snod alone.
A bloke in front of me was adamant that's the game the wheels starting coming off their axles. Their run-in is a piece of piss so we're still fighting Cardiff I reckon, but that gap is down to three points which brings its own pressures.
-

Even second half v Albion & Manchester United?
Sunderland in 75 won’t be beaten as good as tonight was
-
We've developed a ruthless efficiency this season. Long may it continue.
Wolves have a lot of quality (some of their options from the bench were ridiculous). But there is a vulnerability there that ourselves and Fulham have exposed. And hopefully a few other sides can exploit it between now and the end of the season.

Agreed
-
The best game i've watched since Villa 2 v Man Utd 2 under Houllier.
Villa tore into Utd.
Albrighton tore into Evra.
Bannan and Hogg bossed the midfield.
If i could celebrate, i'd celebrate like James Chester.
Arms out, shaking. living. loving !!!
-
That gap is getting narrower! I assume I will stop smiling at some point, but what a performance. Well done, Bruce, all the team and all the fans for building a rocking atmosphere. It’s going to be a great few weeks now we are there or thereabouts and the daffodils and tulips are up!

Our reserves beat them 6-1. The first team only managed 4. Bruce out!

Lovely stuff. Grabban has been a fine addition.

Fantastic result. Great goals. Well done all involved.
No complacency, for the QPR game.
-
That performance surpasses anything we saw in the 1974-75 season.
Even second half v Albion & Manchester United?
I understand the statement, given the importance of the result to us. I don’t think we had such a game in that season where a draw or loss would have done us so much damage.
-
Wonderful result to wake up to.
Had some great mates (even if one is a Liverpool fan) visiting Tokyo for the first time. Far too much sake, and far too much amusement from watching the Liverpool fan almost cry during the Man Utd match.
The sake took its toll however, and I fell asleep when our game was at 1-1. Waking up to a 4-1 win against Wolves has immediately made my day. Had countless messages from my dad absolutely raving about Grealish. How good was he second half? Is my dearest dad exaggerating?
I'm going to watch a full re-run of the game now!

Rules of the jungle: Lions v Wolves. There will only ever be one outcome. Lions all day long. Lions 4, Wolves 1.

Having watched it live & then again on tv since got back one thing stood out to me, when they scored & when they made substitutions they didn’t look like an in it together camp. I wonder if all the focus around money and how they are going about it has created a bit of a divide in the squad?
Magnificent performance from us & good luck to the physios & masseurs putting the players back together for Tuesday
-
Tonight was special, the players and the fans together as one,
we've got "Our Viila back"
-
Just read this on the Molineux Mix. How deluded are the Dogheads?
We were undone by the brilliance of Grealish he was fantastic tonight. Hope we go up and they don't cos if that's the case we need to try and sign him. Grabben better than Afobe I'm afraid gives so much more and rememer the Lewis Grabben thread folks. He would have got us over the line. Could be a costly mistake.
-
Wow.
They were the better team after they equalised and until half time,
The second half we got closer to them and put them under pressure.
The ref was awful again.
Unhappy with Hourihanes performance.
Taylor had a poor first half but was very good in the second.
Grealish was outstanding and one of the best individual performance by a Villa player for Avery long time.
It’s been along day and a long time since I have experienced that atmosphere at VP.

Doesn't strike me as much wrong with saying "try and sign him".

Is it true Wolves had a meeting with the head of Championship refs about teams targeting their flair players earlier this week?
Have a look at that second half, they were taking it in terms to try to hack Grealish off the pitch. Had a good go at Snodgrass aswell.
At least 2 of their players should have been sent off for persistent fouling. On the other side of the coin, they should have a penalty. The referee was poor quality mince, as are most of them in this division.

Usually jinx things with my predictions- but thought we’d win this. Never thought it would be by 3 though.
Up the Villa!

Amazing win villa. i was running 2 hrs behind and was texted it was a draw so it was weird seeing the goals going in .
-
Excellent all round again. That second half was a delight. Snodgrass & Grealish a joy to watch but we defended well as a unit too. Chester had a good game and the sight of Terry in the referee’s ear every time there’s a decision of any note, regardless of where it takes place on the pitch, continues to amuse.
We’re in the ascendancy. UTV.
-
The best I have seen us play for a long time and Grabban's goal was a masterclass in near post brilliance. Taylor was the weak link in the first half but improved as the game went on. Neves was a total damp squib.
-
I thought neves was actually pretty good. Excellent passing
It’s just that grealish, Snodgrass and Adomah were better
-

According to their 'Molyneux Mix' website they will sign Grealish when they go up and we don't.
I also liked the line "We were robbed but we were well beaten".

well I had built up this impression of Neves as a messianic Champions League quality type player given everything people had said about him and for me, he fell a long way short of that.

I first started watching my beloved club in the old third division and love them just as much now
It was superb mate and ranks amongst my best Villa Park experiences in over 40 years of watching the colours we love.
-
They will still get automatic promotion. Great image though.
-
well I had built up this impression of Neves as a messianic Champions League quality type player given everything people had said about him and for me, he fell a long way short of that.
Sorry but which one was Neves? Was he the bearded fella in the middle impersonating Ash Westwood with accuracy of Carlos Cuellar?

The last time I decided to go to a match on my own at the last minute was the 6-1 vs Sunderland. Couldn't get a seat in the Holte so was in the Trinity but the whole ground was bouncing. Hope we didn't pick up any injuries - some of their challenges were awful.
Grealish, Adomah, Grabban. 4-1 on your big day out.

Obviously he made a big impression on me Brian. I think that 7 must have been gilded with Lead.

Latest bookies odds to go up
Wolves 1/16
Cardiff 4/6
Villa 11/10
Fulham 6/5
Derby 9/2

Sunderland 75 was my 3rd game at Villa Park, and will never forget it, but yesterday was the best in many years.

To put in a performance like that against the team at the top in the knowledge that both Cardiff and Fulham had won was tremendous.
When we pressed them higher, that's when they looked shaky. That takes a lot of energy and after their 'tag team' fouling as well, especially on Grealish and Snodgrass, I just hope everyone's fit to go again.
So many good performances, but a mention to Taylor who did really well in the second half after a wobbly start.
Great camaraderie in the team as well, although again Bjarnason left the field early on his own, and after scoring that goal!
-

I think what last night highlighted is although they have bought some quality players, they still have more than a few Championship plodders in that team. I thought some of them got exposed quite badly at times last night, particularly the ones at the back.
Didn't go to the away game, so that was the first time seeing them live last night. What they do playing that 3-4-3 is push the 3 defenders out quite wide, which in turn allows the wing backs to push on. They tried to hit diagonal balls to the wing backs quite early, the majority of which last night ended up in the Trinity Road and Witton Lane stands thankfully. You could see what they try and do when it works though as having the wing backs pushed up so far allows the wide forwards (the ones with the real quality) drift inside and find little pockets of space where they can cause real problems.

Probably moody that he got dropped.

Maybe he had an eBay auction ending at half seven.

I can kind of understand his frustration in a way. He was playing in the Champions League before he came here and now he can't get in a Championship side. I like him a lot though. I'm not one for changing a winning team but I'd be tempted to start him in the next couple of games.

Dunno how he managed to type all that with his extra fingers getting in the way. Them and Sheffield Wed need to join forces. It's obviously all the referrees fault when you concede 4 goals.
-

There was an odd moment, I think before he scored, when he broke with the ball and Grealish seemed to expect for him to give him the ball. Instead he dropped his shoulder and went on a run. I do hope it’s just his cool Viking manner, and not that he’s sulking.
-
Listening to the WM phone in on the way home.....it still managed to be a Doghead love in, and apparently they have been the greatest team in England all season.
One Dingle phoned in and said although they lost it ‘wasn’t a 4-1’ game’.
Errr....if fucking was, we won 4-1.
-
I like the fact we are really putting teams away. 5 against Bristol, 4 against Wolves. These are the types of results that other teams start noticing.
Cardiff will be looking over their shoulders nervously now.

I should stop watching games at half time more often. Could only see the second half on C5 highlights as I had to go out, but what a second half, didn't see that coming in the first half. With hindsight though, for all the possession they had in the first half, they didn't really trouble our goal. Grabban adds a new dimension for us, runs his socks off and has that touch of quality to his finishing. Glad BB got his goal, feel like he deserves a run in the team.
On a side note, never given Wolves a second thought in all my years, but a few weeks ago I met a friend of a friend down here for the first time, he's from that part of the world and is a Wolves fan, after hearing I was a Villa fan he came over all smug and a bit pleased with himself, so that results for him !!

COME ON VILLA! Let’s do a Wembley Semi 2014 second half! This is just as important
this guy gets it.... I wanted this, and they gave it.
-
I like the fact we are really putting teams away. 5 against Bristol, 4 against Wolves. These are the types of results that other teams start noticing.
Cardiff will be looking over their shoulders nervously now.
UTV
The way it is going I don't think they will be looking over their shoulders to see how we are doing they will be focusing their sights on Wolves and looking to go above them.
-
What pleased me as well about yesterday was the pace and stamina shown right until the end - not bad for a side with 8 players aged 29 and over !

Great interview there Brucie. Sorry I called you a dinosaur a while back! "We can't rest on wor laurels". Great stuff.

They will, but there will be some nervousness as they also have to visit VP. I reckon they'd have preferred a Wolves win as that would have cemented second place for them.
-
equally it must give them hope that they can catch Wolves - a 13 point advantage whittled down to 3 in a few weeks.
-
Though we beat them, Wolves have very two winnable games next, whereas Cardiff have two tricky away games, they could easily drop 4 points. Fingers crossed to us being 2nd this time next week.

That was a pretty fair assess.ent and no hard grapes. They are right we really did want it more.
Very proud of the team

A special mention for the 4 Wolves morons Sat behind us in the Witton upper. Smug, mocking our fans and songs in the first half, stunned silence for most of the second. Their blank, gormless expressions at full time were a sight to behold.
-
Pete3206 did the 4 include a bald headed fella in a white jacket ? Passed them as they walked towards the Holte singing "we're Wolverhamoton, we're top of the league" then did an about turn realising they were in the wrong place and headed back down Witton Lane.
-
Walking out of the ground last night I became convinced we are going up by one of the automatic places. We are scoring for fun at the moment and other than a 25 minute spell in the first half we dominated the league leaders. There was a togetherness between the fans and players that gave out an aura of invincibility. It is something that doesn’t happen very often and is a credit to all involved.

There were a group of them in one of the boxes in the corner of where the Holte meets the Trinity Road one of who fits that description. They were giving it the big one when they scored, but just sat there stunned when the goals started raining in and the attention of the Holte turned on them.
-
My first VP game since the dying days of Sherwood, will have to get up more often. Not even a kid stood up on his seat directly in front of mine throughout (it's the Lower Holte, thems the breaks) could spoil the game, nor the view much when I craned me neck enough.
A suggested improvement on the opposition-baiting song, "Wanky wanky Wolverhampton Wanderers" might be more effective than two additional "wankys", while also making it clear that we are referring to Wolves and not Wycombe or Bray.
Actually on the train up from Euston, two of their fans got on at Northampton and, spotting my scarf, decided to sit next to me. Good lads, in their 20's who knew their football and were proud rather than cocky about their team. Even offered me a tin of Grolsch.
First train back to New St from Witton was a full hour and a half after the game ended so I missed my onward train home and had to catch a later one that took bleedin' ages what with all the stops in between but a 4-1 win over a rival can deflect from a multitude of hardship. If only there was another VP Saturday this season...fingers crossed for the Derby game and it will have to be pencilled in.
-
I'm a very proud man today
-
You can guarentee now that having come down here, expecting to play us off the pitch and take the piss but going home with a proper shooing and their tails between their legs that they'll start to develop an even bigger chip on their shoulders regarding us now.
Barcahampton set themselves up for a massive fall, same as the Albion and their ''only premiership team in the area'' shit, same as the rags and their arry delusion after buying some players from tiny clubs for money. Don't get cocky and count your chickens before they've hatched. These lot, they've always been our whipping boys, always been in our shadow and always will be.
-
Snoddy and Terry have brought an attitude that bar Hutton we have missed for so long. They hate loosing and that seems to have rubbed off on the whole team now. For the first time in years we now seem to have players that are desperate to win. They don't shrink when they pull on the villa shirt.

Who took your other eye out you deluded Wolvo twat?

Great camaraderie in the team as well, although again Bjarnason left the field early on his own, and after scoring that goal!
Why did he leave straight away?
He did the same after a win a couple of games ago - can't remember which one. Maybe he just doesn't like Oasis

It could be something as daft as a superstition.
-
I’m not seeing this nailed on penalty. Snodgrass turns as the ball is going past him and it hit his trailing arm. To say that is him handling the ball ‘deliberately’ is debatable.
-
Agreed. It can't be deliberate if he's looking the other way. His arms are up, but only because he's just had his arm round a teammate as part of a defensive wall.

I actually thought Adomah got a tiny bit of the ball which was the main penalty incident. His follow through was very reckless though and easily could've been given, I was expecting a penalty but think infront of the Holte End saved us there.
Down by the North Stand and the linesman who was infront of the Wolves fans would've flagged for it I reckon.

Touching the ball doesn't mean he won the ball. It was a clear pen as far as I'm concerned.

Disagree as in my eyes Adomah won the ball and then collided with Doherty, the Snodgrass one was a definite penalty.
-
Any footage of the Adomah penalty appeal? I don't remember being overly concerned at the time, sat in the Upper Doug.
-
Well I'd have been screaming for a penalty had it been an opposition player in Snoddy's place, so I reckon it was just a case of the Ref having his eyes fixed on the crowd of players in the penalty area. That said, I don't think any Wolves supporter could possibly cling on to the belief that this incident was the reason they lost. They were properly mullered in the second 45 & deserved exactly what they received i.e. bugger-all. :)
-
But it ay fair!
-
interestingly though I think only one Wolves player protested at the Snoddy incident - it was hardly a mass protestation.
-
Snodgrass handball was a definite penalty for me. His hands should not have been that high - I can only assume the ref didn’t see it and presume there were too many players obstructing the view of the linesman. It was a stupid lunge by Hourihane in the first place. If they had got to 3-2 with 15 minutes to go it would have been squeaky bum time.
-
It was a penalty, the handball. But the bug clubs continue to get the decisions when playing the smaller sides.
-
I bet the big ones do too.
-
To put in a performance like that against the team at the top in the knowledge that both Cardiff and Fulham had won was tremendous.
Why did he leave straight away?
His girlfriend had promised to let him play the role of a Viking invading a foreign country and having his wicked way with the locals. Plus she had a new supply of whipped cream.
-
Yeah, it should've been a penalty. That they still would've had to score, mind. And if someone had spotted Hogan on his own for a foot race straight down the middle near the death, it could've been 5-1. Uncles, aunties, bollocks, and all that.

I think more that he thought it hit the shoulder, as he was turning while jumping. very fair

Imo it was a pen and we'd be mightily pissed off if a decision like that had gone against us. But it was Real Wanderers so feck 'em, it just makes it even sweeter the sad, obsessed, tin pot gimps.

There's always one defining answer in a situation like this - what did John Terry say?

how sweet to finally have one of those go our way?

it isn't, but gained advantage from i, maybe.
-
If it's not deliberate, it's not a penalty.
-
I think, when considering whether it was a penalty or not, the conclusion we can all agree on is, fuck off Wolves you small time, tin pot, wankers.
-
Decent. Seems chips aren't the only orange things that get battered from the black country.
The local was slightly quieter than usual last night, despite having the same amount of the fuckers in

Seems like as reasonable a basis for a decision as any other.

A definite pen having seen the replays. Having a poor ref worked to our advantage there.
-
Definite penalty for me aswell. Shame.
-
Main things is that everyone at the game survived the thousands of Wolves fans in the home ends.
Oh dear, they weren't playing that game, were they? I thought only Smsll Heath fans were like that 😂
They spent the week being even worse over it believe it or not.
There was a wee bit of nonsense in A8. A couple of guys cheering the equaliser with predictable results.
-
A8? Right in the thick of it, then!
-

what does winning the ball mean? Stroking it them flattening a player?
-
There appeared to be a Wolves fan who celebrated their goal in one of the Witton Lane boxes near the Holte but other than a bit of pointing and shouting I couldn't see what happened afterwards.
-
I think, when considering whether it was a penalty or not, the conclusion we can all agree on is, fuck off Wolves you small time, tin pot, wankers.
Speaking as someone acts like he knows what he’s on about and pretends to be a lawyer in my expert opinion your closing comments and ultimate conclusion makes perfect sense to me.
-
It's not a definite pen for me.
A definite pen is one you see in real time that looks so blatant it can't be anything else but. Like when Keith Curle took up gaelic football in front of the Holte back in 1993. Most only clocked this one on the replay.
But, aye, I would've been miffed if I was Wolvertrampton and didn't get that.
At the time, Snoddy's reaction looked like a natural movement as part of his jump. And possibly also to protect his face. Well he is an absolute dreamboat.
So he's either very lucky to have got away with a moment of madness, or sly enough to give the ref enough doubt as to whether it was deliberate.
-
Those type of handballs are given week in, week out. I suspect that the reason yesterday's wasn't given is because the ref didn't see it rather than him deciding that it was accidental. These days, you cannot jump up with your arms outstretched and then claim that it was accidental.
Who cares anyway? We had decisions go against us yesterday, as we did from the same ref against Burton. Wolves were beaten fairly and squarely and 4-1 was about right in the end.
-
The snoddy one is a clear pen for me, the adomah one was never a penalty, the ball was long gone by the time there was contact and they both ran into each other.
On the flip side Batth or N'diaye could easily have been sent off for making poor tackles when they were on a yellow and the Coady one is the sort of tackle that sometimes gets a red.
-
Just when I thought yesterday couldn't be any better, I read this:
WM police have confirmed it was Villa that banned the masks enforcing heavy handed tactics to stop people wearing them.
And then this:
Disgusting club, truly ran by a bunch of cry babies acting like bullies. Can make ****ty comments all season then take away democracy to stop others having their say. As some one put. Communist club.
Fckin priceless.
"Them dai let us take our Mendez masks in them dai"
boo hoo fckin whoo
-
It was 4-1, it wasn't close, we drilled them second half, they're shitting themselves. And what kind of pricks want to wear masks of an agent ? Not a Striker, not a heroic defender, not a captain who leads by example, not a manager who's genius has turned things around, a fucking agent who bends rules and bleeds money out of the game and disrupts clubs. Pathetic, cocky wankers brought back down to earth.
-
What the fuck are they on about? What's dressing up like a twat in a Footballing Parasite mask got to do with democracy?
-
China doesn’t do democracy
-
They're good, better than us on most days, but our strategy worked better than theirs and the 4-1 reflected that. As the game went on, they opened up more, we kept getting more space in the channels and between their midfield and defense and ultimately that's where th goals came from. All incredibly simple really.
-
What the fuck are they on about? What's dressing up like a twat in a Footballing Parasite mask got to do with democracy?
Bantz ay it?

-
Shame we can’t play Wolves every week, we’d have an awesome goal difference!
-
They have a point about the pen incident. Indeed if all ifs n buts in the game turned into goals then the score would probably looked a lot different. 7.2
-
It was a penalty, the handball. But the bug clubs continue to get the decisions when playing the smaller sides.
Yes and the ref would have found it difficult to get it past Terry. John would have over ruled him.
-
There appeared to be a Wolves fan who celebrated their goal in one of the Witton Lane boxes near the Holte but other than a bit of pointing and shouting I couldn't see what happened afterwards.
Someone spilt their Prosecco.
-
It’s such a shame for their fans. The one time, absolute one time, they roll up at Villa Park in a supposedly far superior team than ours playing their best football ever totally confident of performing like Brazil 70 and they take away the worst twatting ever of recent times. How sad😀
-
I mentioned beforehand, when was the last time they came to Villa ahead of us in the league. Certainly not in my lifetime and I'm 37.
-
Well, what an unexpectedly brilliant evening!
My favourite review of the match. Thank you, Mister E.

Yes....let's remember who ref''s the games these days. Thought Terry again did a good job as ref.

My pleasure.
The Wolves fans elsewhere on the interweb really are giving it SW-proportions bitterness; it reminds me how proximate they are to the Bitters.
I quite like the idea that we are attracting opprobrium from opposition fans once again: it illustrates that we are not disappearing into some vanilla wasteland (known as Lamberkland) where no one cares about us.

Over the moon, Villa, fantastic! What a statement. And fair play to the Wolves fan who posted this.

Anyone else notice how frequently the Wolves players slipped/lost their footing yesterday? The state of the VP pitch might just be an advantage as our lads clearly had the right boots/studs on...

1979-80, and even then it was only by one place and one point.

And we more than made up for it in the next couple of seasons. 😁

That’s why you check your boots before the game.

I'm the same age and haven't seen them come to Villa Park in the same league as us that many times, let alone ahead of us.
-

Neither of the incidents in question looked like penalties from where I was sat in the Holte. Spoke to a friend on the way home who had watched the game on TV and when he said we were lucky to get away with a penalty, I genuinely hadn't got an idea what he was talking about. It was only when I saw the highlights last night that it became apparent and have to say that it looked a penalty to me.
-

Two blokes in my row in the North Stand upper left immediately after Thor's goal, no trace of pleasure on their faces, an old boy and a surprisingly well dressed man of around 50.
No aggro at all, but I couldn't resist a little "Never mind lads, enjoy the run in" as they shuffled past.
-
The Snodgrass one was an absolute stone wall pen
I really didn’t see what the claims for the other one were all about
-
Even had they scored their precious possible penalty, we'd have probably jibbed them on the break again as they pressed on.
Men against boys.

Just got over the worst villa caused hangover since the 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' semi final. Worth every second.
I think I love my club too much, I invest too much emotion in them and all the pent up rage of relegation, nervousness of this game, piss taking dingles anger came out in the sheer madness of celebration as our 2nd, 3rd and 4th goals went in. I’m floating and there is no better feeling as a football fan.
I’m amazed at the amount of wanky smug dingles I’ve had to endure down the pub, at work and on the radio. They honestly thought they’d just turn up to win after our non appearance at their place earlier.
We played MAGNIFICENTLY. Our team ran their socks off. All scorers took their goals and went for it. Their supposedly superior players were made to look very ordinary and I saw nothing special about them. Top of the league? Your having a laugh.
Steve Bruce I salute you sir. If I bump into you in my local, you wouldn’t buy a drink all night!
Grabban - what a master stroke of a signing!
Grealish - I’m loving your ability and I’m scared - you have the Holte on its feet every time you run with the ball, you’re attracting worldwide attention surely and you’ll leave us.
Snodgrass - brilliant deliveries and a winners mentality.
Bertie - I think your ace, get 20 goals!
Thor turned into Messi
Rest of the squad - play, win, dream !
To all the ‘mind the gap’ singing dingles - you have been soundly beaten nay dismantled and fully deservedly so. I can see the wheels have come off your campaign and you’ll battle in the playoffs to salvage your season. Ha!
This victory in the context of our season and one of the greatest results in the last few years.
Me and my club are ONE.

Has anyone seen a mock-up doing the rounds online of our lion rampant mauling their wolf like there was of the lion killing the Baggies bird after we doubled them in the league and cup in 2015?

Image fail
-
Not many “mind the gap” tweets on the Villa hashtag today. I wonder why? :-)

What a game what a weekend one of the best I can remember in a long time I love the Villa with a passion and days like Saturday just make it so much better.

I'm pretty sure he will. Being a fan is never enough, all players will move for money or trophies.
If he keeps this type of form up I think the best we can hope for would be one more season and a good fee.
-
I reckon if we look after him- he’ll be at VP for a long while. Build a side around him and let’s see what happens. He’s starting to look the player he was against the scousers

After all the crap we’ve endured over the past few years it’s games like these that make me realise why we I still do it

I think Grealish may well go if we don't go up, but if we doo he will stay for a bit to see how far he can get wth us.
He is still pretty young so he can head off in his mid-twenties to win stuff if it doesn't look like happening here.
-
I think he'll be here next season even if we don't go up but if he is the best player in the division next season, as he should be, and we don't go up again I think 100% he'll move on after that.

Just read this, is it April 1st?...... and Shi, speaking exclusively to the Express & Star, has a vision for a 50,000 all-seater stadium befitting of the team Wolves are looking to build.
"Let's try to get to 50,000 as soon as possible," Shi said.
"Everyone wants to have a big stadium. It's a step by step process and only when we build a strong team and can compete comfortably in the Premier League is the time to expand the stadium.
"Eventually, if we can achieve that, we'll do it of course.

Whoops, some rubbish pasting by me then.
-
You mean they have downgraded their ambition from a 60,000 seater? The Dingles will be wanting him out.

Fantastic performance, atmosphere, result. More important to us Black Country Villans than that small club from Small Heath.
Delighted Chester scored, after his contribution to the mistakes that led to their equaliser. He has been superb and deserves Player of the Season award.
After all the Mind the Gap, and worse taunts, in recent weeks, victory was all the sweeter. I heard a sizeable group of Norwegian Lions Club members were over for the game.
Reminded me of the famous Norwegian TV commentator's end of match speech/rant, way back when Norway beat England in a World Cup Qualifier, or was it a finals Group match?
Inspired me to do a Villa v Wolves version, with acknowledgement to legendary Norwegian commentator, Bjørge Lillelien RIP. Us Black Country Villans know about the famous history of Wolves, and their struggles towards the end of the 20c, when they came close to folding.
“We have beaten Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-1 in football!! It is completely unbelievable! We have beaten Wolves, Wolves, birthplace of monkey gland injections, 60 watt hamster-powered floodlights, double-decker bus thefts and fantasy world club championships.
Major Frank Buckley, Sir Billy Wright, Stan Cullis, Mahmud & Mohammad Bhatti (Court Martialled),
Baroness Rachael Heyhoe-Flint OBE,
Brian ‘Double-Decker’ Law, Sir Jack Hayward, Derek Squeaky Parkin, Joy Beverley-Wright MBE,
Bert Williams MBE, we have beaten them all. We have beaten them all!
Jorge Paulo Agostinho Mendes, can you hear me? Nuno Herlander Simões Espírito Santo, I have a message for you in the run in of the championship campaign. I have a message for you: we have knocked Wolves for four.
Stevie Bull MBE, as they say in your language in the boxing bars around Mad O’Rourke’s World Famous Pie Factory in Tipton, your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!”
