Saturday 3rd March. 15:00 hrs. Villa Park.
Rearranged for Tuesday 13th March. 7.45pm.
Their away form is not the greatest. 7 points in the last ten. Their overall form is mediocre too: 12 points in ten home and away.
We have taken 21 points at home in the last ten games, and 25 points home and away.
3-1 to us.
-
We’ll fuck the hoopy fuckers.
-
We’re probably still not a big club according to little goblin man. A win, hopefully without much fuss.
2-0
-
Got to be looking to win this. Their away form is poor, although they did give Wolves a scare in the last ten.
They've just been hammered 5-2 at home to Forest as well so they're not high in confidence you'd think.
Fingers crossed Grealish is back at least.
-
My prediction : Aston Villa P-P QPR (Snow)
-
My prediction : Aston Villa P-P QPR (Snow)
Pools panel home win.
3-1 up going into the last twenty minutes would be nice but a 2-1 win is more likely. My main memories of them are a Steve McMahon screamer at Villa Park on Boxing Day 1983, Beelzebub's hatrick and our 4-1 win against them on the first day of the season in the BFR days. Oh, and getting to Loftus Road in the SGT days only to find out the game was called off.
-
1-0 to them. Kevin Gallen.
In a more realistic world, 5-1 to us.

My main memories of them are beating QPR at home early on in the 1992/93 season. Superb individual goal from Dalian. And obviously the following season, smashing them 4-1 on the opening day. Andy Townsend's debut, and a couple of screamers from Dalian and Staunton.
It was the first match that the Old Witton Lane was transformed into the two tier stand we know today. It was bloody boiling!!!

Have we got the Ref paid and on our side ?
-
Was a great day that!
-
The ref, the assessor, the FA. Just waiting to hear back whether Gollum has accepted our offer.
-
A repeat of the 5-2 against them in the 84/85 season wouldn't go amiss either.
-
Will be interesting selection. Rush Grealish & Albert back or play safe and be confident we can beat them with what we have? Tough call. As it's QPR I may be inclined to give them another week to give them the best possible chance of being fully fit for the rest of the season.
I'd really like to see O'Hare in the squad, but clearly Bruce doesn't have confidence in him for some reason. Surely Onomah has now had his chance and will be bench at best?

I'd go with Grabban on the left and Davis upfront. They terrorised Wednesday in the last twenty minutes.

If either Grealish & Albert are "ready" I'd err on the side of caution and put them on the bench. The team have regrouped and should be able to beat QPR. Even without "the FA payment" 8)
As for Onomah, I'd rather not even put him on the bench - I'd sooner see Gaby on the bench than him, as you know that at least he cares about the club and would try.
-
3-0 Grabban 2 and Hogan.
-
My main memories of them are beating QPR at home early on in the 1992/93 season. Superb individual goal from Dalian.
The last game of the 92/93 season was at Loftus Road. Easily three quarters of the ground were filled with Villa - we sat in the home end - mass conga on the pitch at the final whistle. Great day out
-
I'm going for a 2-0 win.
-
3 - 0
Grabban
Terry
Snodgrass
-
Was a great day that!
Aw man, I remember that day like it was yesterday. Happy days.
-
Flying over for this one at the crack of dawn on Saturday morning, so here's hoping the snow doesn't disrupt anything.
Not sure what to predict really. I'll take a scrappy 1-0 win though.

We've got a Tuesday game next week, but then have only two Saturday games before an international break. If there are any doubts at all though, I would rather we held them back and got them right for the final push after the break. Our fixtures before then are QPR (H), Sunderland (A), Wolves (H) and Bolton (A), so Wolves aside a pretty decent run.
-
2-0. Onomah hat-trick.
-

Yep, some of the best goals I've seen at Villa Park. We were very good that day (Andy Townsend having an excellent Villa Park debut if I recall correctly), but I remember Les Ferdinand also being superb as well and being one of the few forwards I ever saw give Paul McGrath a really tough afternoon.
-
I was thinking something similar earlier, Tom.
Was a great goal he scored, too.
-
2-0, nothing to see, move along now please. Easy Easy Easy
-
Hope trains up from south are ok as bringing the missus up for this one. 3-1 Villa
-
4-0
FTF

Brilliant. My first ever Villa home match.
-
For anyone having a dabble on guess the crowd, QPR have sold 1000 so far.
-
Villa 3 QPR 1 Beast from the East 0
-
Surely we have to expect 6 points from next 2 games?
Just like Newcastle and Brighton last season decent long winning runs punctuated by the odd blip of shitness
We now need another 5/6 wins on the bounce
-
Any chance of a sticky mods?
-
For anyone having a dabble on guess the crowd, QPR have sold 1000 so far.
It is bound to be dissapointing.

You never know how other results are going to go, but I would say we have got to be looking at 10 points at least from the next four games if we are going to keep pushing for automatic promotion. Even then, that might not be enough to overtake Cardiff by the international break.
-
4-1
-
2-0
-
And I would play Jedinak because they will be bashing it Smith's head for most of the afternoon.
-
Bold statement 5-0
-
Always an opposition I expect us to beat at VP regardless of form. When did QPR last win here in the league?
Would be happy with 2-0.

1992. They are one of the few clubs that have a winning record against us in all competitions, mainly because we've been so wank at Loftus Road over the years.

It might be a bit cold on Saturday. Someone should buy our lads some thermal 'athletic supports'. And a jumper.

That does surprise me. They've always been pretty poor at VP since I've been going.

I've just looked that game up. We lost 0-1 at Villa Park in front of a crowd of 19,630 on the 14th of March. I would have been at the game but have no recollection of it whatsoever. Possibly because it was played on a fellow H&V poster's birthday so I'm guessing we all went out and got pissed after the game. To be fair we used to do that after every game but you know how it is when it is someone's birthday, you have a few extra to be sociable.
-
It was one of the games from recollection in the great goalless run of BFRs first season, I recall absolutely nothing of it despite the fact I was there.
-
I was probably there but don't remember it at all. I definitely remember the Beelzebub game.
-

We've won 21 and lost 23 so have closed the gap after winning the last 3 against them.

Magic
Any idea on the date
-
I think it was 1963 during the big freeze. Probably Blackburn as that was the only home home we played for over 3 months.

I'd be more concerned about the imminent attack from a swirly see-through monster than the snow.

Too right. There’s cold, and then there’s pan-dimensional vortexes.

My journey on Saturday:
Staines to London
London to Leicester
Hospital visit
Leicester to Birmingham NS
To villa park
It had better not be called off!
I’d not take risks with grealish and Adomah
If not fit:
Johnstone
Elmo Chester Terry Taylor
Whelan hourihane
Snodgrass lansbury Grabban
Davis

I remember that game mainly because I got the train up from London with a mate who hailed from Perry Barr, had beers on the train with some QPR fans, went out in Brum and got smashed in Le Brum Pub (someone please tell me I'm not making this memory up and it actually existed), stayed at his Mum's and came back the next day. I felt really bad as I didn't call in and see my Mum & Dad. I remember very little about the match.
-
I was probably there but don't remember it at all. I definitely remember the Beelzebub game.
Oh don't! My ears are still ringing from the deafening boos and jeers when Beelzebub subbed himself on. And put three past us.
-
The game where he came on was afterwards, by which time he was at Wednesday, I think. I remember he got booed but some of it was fear as we remembered what he'd done on his last visit. He was on from the start in the hat-trick game. I think that defeat probably did us a favour as we went about fifteen unbeaten afterwards, and went from relegation-threatened dross to title contenders.

After the darkest hour and all that.
I well remember that game, I'd never experienced the hostility to him before, it semmed to backfire comically only enraging those affected further. As you say it became a turning point, but it left Taylor on the rack a bit.

That's about right. It was the QPR game when Sir Graham sent the trainer on with instructions to Paul McGrath to try and get to the end of the match without falling over.

Yes. Quite right. I looked it up and it says he came on as sub for the second half of the game against Sheffield Wednesday in February (1-0.Platt. 90'). It must have been there I heard the deafening [oh fuck! No! Not him!] boos.
-
7.0
-
QPR-supporting mate of mine has sent me the following:
I'm just going to pretend it's not happening. 5 or 6 nil easy. We're on a bad run again, all about getting to the summer without getting relegated or getting a transfer embargo. Not looking forward to any away game at this point.
-
If Grealish plays I think we can open them up, but without him it will be more about grinding through them. They pushed Wolves close the last ten minutes, although they are a side we ought to beat.
I would go with;
Johnstone
Taylor
Terry
Chester
Elmo
Jedinak
Grabban
Hourihane
Grealish
Snoddy
Hogan
If Grealish is out, then bring Davis in and go 4-4-2.
-
My flight to Brum is still go for Saturday but what are the chances of games being cancelled?
Ireland is under 10cm of snow right now with another 20cm due tomorrow. Most businesses have shut down for the day although the airport is still operational.

And obviously the following season, smashing them 4-1 on the opening day. Andy Townsend's debut, and a couple of screamers from Dalian and Staunton.
It was the first match that the Old Witton Lane was transformed into the two tier stand we know today. It was bloody boiling!!!
What a day that was. Obviously a repeat of that would be acceptable.
Got to admit also our 3-2 victory over them in Lambert's first season was quite thrilling.

As was the Benteke hat trick must win under Sherwood.

Do you reckon the game maybe called off I know the pitch will be Ok but the surrounding area for supporters to get about might be too bad if the weather get's worse what is it like in the midlands at the moment as I'm in London.

We’ve dodged the worst of it so far. Let’s hope it’ll hold until the weekend

Weather Forecast says the beast from the east will show up Friday and Saturday. The game has to be in doubt.

Happy Nights at The Parisian/Parisienne
I used to work with Kevin Johnson - the guy posting this on You Tube

I would be amazed if the weather threatens our game this weekend. The Beast has generally missed most of the Midlands so far. It will be cold though!
I agree with comments about the difference a fit Grealish might make to us taking the game to them. He is making such a difference this term and I love his commitment defensively as well, no jogging back nonchalantly (Onomah!). In my calculations this should be one of the 7 or 8 we need to win for automatic promotion, so lets do it! 3-1 Villa. Draws at Brentford and Derby would be nice too!!

8-0. Let’s fuck em.

how did you gain access to wife's photo album?

I'd drop Hogan and bring Davis back in. Looked very sharp when he came in v Sheff Wed.

She's your wife too?

I hope she is not your beard!

Mary Beard?

Really, really hoping the snow keeps away so there is no threat of the game being called off.
What a change to the recent past where I’d have have been quite happy to not visit the ‘factory of sadness’ and stay in the warm.
-

It's an eternity since we last had a home match called off due to the weather, Leicester in 2000 I'd guess at due to huge snowfall the day before.
-
Well I just hope the people who decide if the game's on aren't like those I work with.
-
Praying for work to be snowed off tomorrow then a massive thaw in time for the game. That said another week for players to get fit might suit us better.

I thought this, then again you can just guarantee we would get more injuries by the time we play the rescheduled match. Selfishly, though, I wouldn't mind the game being off as I have to miss it due to other commitments.
Wouldn't mind if some of our competitors had games called off and have to deal with the resultant fixture congestion later.

These conditions unlikely to help the Pitch.

Is it bad there currently folks? Dublin has been atrocious since Tuesday night but it's getting to the point where things are shutting down. Airport operations are debating whether to officially close or not, which would be the first time in a long long time that it's officially happened. So even if the game is going ahead it looks increasingly unlikely that my flight will take off on Saturday morning! Depressing.
Does anyone know if I can transfer tickets remotely and have someone pick up new copies at the ticket office? If the game goes ahead I'd really hate for our seats to go to waste.
-
Any Adomah/Grealish injury updates?
-
It's bloody freezing and very windy with very fine snow. I wouldn't be adverse to them calling it off early for crowd safety issues. I was cold enough last weekend
-
You're a child of summer, you Southern jessy. You know nothing of the long winter we endure in the Narf.
-
call it off - get albert and JAck back fit iwhen we play them again later
-
I really can't see this one going ahead
-
3-0
Taylor in for Hutton
Elmo right back.
Snodgrass, Whelan Hourihane Bjarnason
Grabban and Hogan up front
These players start if adomoah and grealish aren't back.
-
Snowed in here in Dorset, so looking doubtful I will be able to get to the game. Gutted!

Yes you can. You can also get refunds up to 3pm tomorrow.
We have friends coming up from Bristol who are also thinking it's probably a daft idea.
-
Play it, win it (please), bag the points, put pressure on the teams around us. Shouldn’t take anything for granted but we shouldn’t need Jack or Albert for this one. Let them rest.
-
We've had Jack all really over this way.
-
Left work at 5:30 and got home at 7:40. Usually a 35 minutes journey. Hopefully it’ll improve by Saturday.
-
I'd be amazed if the weather improves to the extent that the game goes ahead.

When was the last time we had a game called off?
-
I can remember a Boxing Day game a while ago being cancelled due to snow??
-
Sheffield United away?
-
Sheffield United away?
No I think it was a home game. All I can remember is getting to the pub to be told it was off.

You could be right. 1993/94 we played on December 19 and not again until December 29th.
We played Liverpool at Villa Park on May 7th. Last game of the season.
-
Was it leicester??
I thought it was Liverpool but maybe my memory is playing tricks on me. It sticks in the mind because the club lost a lot of money and it prompted Ellis to get under soil heating installed the following season.

Leeds away got called off in the mid-90s. Then Wigan away about 8 year ago. Cannot recall any others.

About 1996, Liverpool got called off about 1pm Boxing Day. IIRC we had a lot of injuries and may have forgotten to cover the pitch. Played Wednesday night in Jan instead, lost 2-0 I think
-
The Blackburn away league in the league cup semi final got postponed in 2010 IIRC. That was probably the worst winter I can remember for a while
-
Was it leicester??
Leicester was 2001 I think. It got called off the day before after Villa made no attempt to get the game on and I did hear a whisper that they wanted it off because of planned protests.
-
Chelsea away was randomly postponed a few years back. May have been a waterlogged pitch
-
Didn't we have a home game against Man City called off in the BFR years?

Think the Liverpool postponed game was Boxing Day 1995...?
-
Wigan away when they ‘forgot’ to turn on the undersoil heating was the last one?
-
Think the Liverpool postponed game was Boxing Day 1995...?
Yes, it was, as I remember having tickets and being gutted to miss it. Had been to my first ever away game a few days before at Loftus Road where we lost and I was amazed at how shit the ground was. Still my favourite season as a Villa fan.
-
having just driven from Dudley to Aston i would be amazed if the game goes ahead, roads around Villa are awful!
-
We played at Albion about 5 years ago in much worse snow conditions than this. The game where we threw away a 2 goal lead to draw 2-2. The pavements outside were like ice rinks.
-
I get into New Street from Euston at around 1.45. I have a feeling that part of the journey will be ok. It's the New Street to Witton or Aston leg I'm not so sure about. Any updates on that from anyone local?

Hi Martyn, I've just 'crawled' into work south Brum. Local radio travel says West Midlands trains running reduced cross city service.
I'll post any updates if i see or hear any 👍
-
If anyone is driving to the game from the Bromsgrove area tomorrow and fancies helping with a lift, I'd really appreciate it.
-
The Villa Twitter page hasn't asked for any volunteers to help clear the pitch. Is this a sign that the game will be on?

They didn't forget - the temperature was too low for it to work.

Pitch covered. I think It'll be the surrounding areas that will cause concern. Punter safety and all that.

Yep, it's hardly ever because of the pitches these days, it's the surrounding areas.

Get them to cancel your ticket and send you a print at home PDF version which you can then send to whoever.
-
With the forecast for this afternoon all the way to tomorrow am then I'd be astounded if our game is on
-
Hopefully any decision would be made fairly early. Be rough on QPR fans if they have to travel all that way and the game is called off at 2pm.
-
Ground and stands will be fine, I guess its just a matter as to whether the main routes in and around will be clear, which given the forecast, the council ought to have plenty of notice to ensure its clear so the game can be on.

The club will, however, continue to monitor the adverse weather conditions forecast over the next 24 hours and report back if circumstances change

Well, if they look up the forecast now for the area....From 3 pm today till at least 9am tomorrow there's a 70% chance there's going to be snow on the scale of 'The day After Tomorrow'

Indeed.
Which is why the ‘wait and see’ option is better than the ‘we are all go to die so let’s cancel eveything just in case’ option.

There's not much point in gritting while it's still snowing and pavements will be the big problem.
-
It would suit me if they cancelled it as I’m stuck in Vienna with daytime temperatures down to -11 and
I’m rebooked on a flight landing at Heathrow at 19:55 tomorrow.
-
I just rang the tickets office to cancel my tickets as I don't fancy travelling up from Brighton & got a full refund. He said that they are having a late inspection tomorrow & conditions are currently awful.

Following on from the amusingly-named Scottish gritter website, I suggest they call the one doing the roads in B6 'Gritton Lane' or 'Gritty Aintgonnathaw'.
-
Just had an email from King Edwards PA - their car park won't be opening tomorrow due to the condition of the car park and surrounding roads. Think I'll give it a miss tomorrow - I'm now hoping it will be postponed
-
What is the weather like? Have you had much snow? You're forecast more but will it amount to much?
-
OT but talk of game being postponed to get players fit had me thinking if Wolves game is postponed would Neves then finish his suspension by sitting out our game?
-

Me too, think that's made my decision easier
-

I work in Aston and there's not been any snow since I got up. There is some forecast for later this afternoon on the BBC website, but it seems to be mainly light snow with a couple of heavy showers. Main roads were fine this morning, if a bit slushy, so I guess they've cleared up a bit now as well.

My wolves workmate says he missed Fulhams game and they also play Leeds Tuesday. So no
-
The Blackburn away league in the league cup semi final got postponed in 2010 IIRC. That was probably the worst winter I can remember for a while
SOTC and I had both booked the day off work and were going with the official coaches - we had to go to the pub instead so day wasn’t wasted & then book a second day off for the replay.
-

It has started again now, it is the drifting that was the issue earlier. Our road for instance has my side fairly clear while those opposite were digging their cars out this morning. I was held up for 20 minutes earlier as a gritting truck had got stuck on a hill.
The local rag says that a lot of clearance work has already gone at the ground and that unless there was significant further snow it would go ahead.
-
Cardiff's game is off so that eases the blow a little. At least we aren't exposed to the prospect of going further behind them is our game is off.
-
I've just watched a car on my estate spend ten minutes trying to get up a tiny incline and failing miserably. I can't see any way they can expect thirty-odd thousand people to turn up to Villa Park in exactly twenty-four hours' time.
-
The snow that came yesterday was the powdery stuff which blew away in the wind. What's coming down now is the sticky stuff and the previously cleared roads now have snow which isn't going away and is being compacted by any traffic.
-

Yep. 4 miles from the ground

Unfortunately I do. I had to pop out last night around 8 and it was bloody treacherous, even with just a bit on the roads, it's so cold it doesn't melt, just compacts into ice.
Looking at it now it's going to be called off tomorrow.
-
QPR seem to have quite a few players out, so part of me wants it to go ahead now.
-

Yeah.Get the game played before any of their world class Galacticos are fit.
-
Ironically I can't remember needing to drive in bad snow when I had my Audi Quattro four wheel drive or when we had my wife's four wheel drive Vauxhall Frontera. Although the Frontera came in handy once when I was working at Worcester Racecourse and the field that passed as a car park was flooded. I do remember having to drive home from work in Alum Rock back to Solihull in my rear wheel drive Toyota Supra. The only way I even got off the pub car park where I always parked opposite my place of work was after a few failed attempts when I was spinning around all over the place I went back into work and weighted my back end down by putting boxes of staionary in the boot. I drove home at about 15mph. When I got to my local my mate was sat at the bar and knowing he only worked five minutes drive away and drove a Land Rover I told him how lucky he was not to have had the problems I have had. His reply was "not really, I was stuck behind loads of real wheel drive twats like you"!
-
No way the game will survive after this afternoons snowfall.
-
Even some main roads such as part of the A40 are closed in Gloucestershire (there's also restrictions on the M5)
-
Battering down with snow now, it's like a blizzard and looks on for the night. No way will it go ahead.
-
Just heard that my car park is closed tomorrow and I suspect others will follow suit on H&S grounds.
Just crazy if this match goes ahead.
-

Thanks VB. Looking less likely now. I would give it a miss but I'm taking a family friend to her first match. Too late to cancel train tickets and if the match goes ahead there'll be no refund for that either. Oh well.
-

Yes King Edwards is CLOSED tomorrow. They cannot clear the area of snow.
-
It'll be fine. I've been to games in worse than this before.
-
Hoping it's called off. No way I'm gonna be able to make it to the plane, and that's if it takes off. Dublin Airport completely shut today.
-
It's a blizzard now in Sutton.
Forecasting all through the night now too, with some respite about 0700.
I'll be surprised if we play tomorrow, with the state of the roads and public transport being affected. The cross city service is struggling, nothing out of New St at present.
-
It'll be off.
-
Almost as I typed got a text to say my flight's been cancelled. That's that then. :(
-
I’d rather this was called tonight rather than late tomorrow.
-
It'll be off.
Bruce out.

There is no chance of this game being on. Zero.

There is no further snow forecast after 9AM tomorrow and as it's nice snow that has fallen up to now the match will be on. We need to thrash QPR and get these 3 points in the bag otherwise we will end up playing a midweek game during our crucial run in.
-
QPR seem to have quite a few players out, so part of me wants it to go ahead now.
Yeah.Get the game played before any of their world class Galacticos are fit.
Haha...when you are playing a team near the bottom it really is bad luck for you if any of their regular players are out.
-
I like how this shows up as Aston Villa vs Queen on the main forum page. A couple of years ago, they might actually have beaten us.
-
Light snow forcast for the rest of the night but no snow at all tomorrow. Just get the game on!

The guy who plays as a lone frontman for them is out long term.

I think tomorrow will be one of those games when the announced attendance looks a lot more than there is actually there.
-
Today I have had a the washing machine flood my kitchen, the fridge destroy my food and companies house fine me for late filing, cancelling the game would fuck me right off

-

Agreed.
Get it on and get it won Villa. Points in the bag are what count so it puts pressure on Cardiff going into their midweek game.
-
The match will be on if the pitch won't be frozen or there's isn't continously snowing I would think but understand if people feeling cautious that it won't.
So qpr conceded five goals last match at home and have the worst record away from home. I hope for a decent victory of 3 to zero and olly to moan about the riches of Aston villa. I think he secretly fancies villa but knows out of his league so has done a play ground tactic of trying to put villa down over the years only way take any notice of him.
Qpr should have been relegated and living not far from the ground I really enjoy it if they did go down as the previous years of financial mess plus having joey Barton in the vacinity deserved relegation twice! Well I digress
Villa to have a great villa name in 'Taylor' left back in I imagine and should do okay interesting to see how the midfield looks and having heard Bruce say he's concerned about the height of the team as its quite small now then Matt Smith would be looking consolation but can't really see Qpr threatening so deal with their ariel nonsense.
Up the villa. A flurry of wins now sees March on this month and with our Cardiff match perfect chance. Be good for a clean sheet and goal difference.
Finally pleased to hear player of season albert adomoah is back. And I hope Hourihane can dominate midfield for once as this lot are pretty weak and despite recent goals overall performances haven't been impressive by him and would even like lansbury involved as quick turnaround of matches this week.
-
It'll be off.
Bruce out.
Even Di Matteo managed to avoid this.
-
Hopefully public transport will be better tomorrow, no trains for the rest of the day and so far it’s taken me 2 hours and 15 minutes to get to Selly Oak from town.

There is a winter weather advisory issued by emumetnet warning of black ice and strong winds. My most trusted weather app predicts ENE winds gusting at 27mph during the game.
Here at my mother's house in Shenley Green, on a road which is normally as busy as the A38, there is no traffic whatsoever and a fire engine crew had to help to push several cars up the hill as they could not get past them.
I will be amazed if the game is not postponed.
-
What's wrong with everyone?
It will definitely be ON.
UTV.

Shurely she won't be satisfied with an 850 mini? I have a 6 Litre Pontiac Firebird Formula and am willing to stand in if you send a photograph and directions.
-
I really hope this game is postponed.
Firstly, for selfish reasons. There's no way I'll be able to get there in this weather. A rescheduled game night also be played in midweek and I like night games.
Secondly, for cunning reasons. It is one less match with Grealish unavailable.
Thirdly, it's really not worth risking anyone's wellbeing if transport is as dangerous as it looks to be. It's only football, after all.
-
agreed.
-
Agreed...but if it is on I'm happy to help a couple of people get to/from the ground if they don't have transport themselves.
As a new user not sure how to go about that. Can any regulars help?
I could give lift from/to Villa Park from Halesowen/Quinton/northern edge of Harborne for 2 adults & possibly 1 child too (who is big enough not to need a booster seat). 3 adults too much of a squeeze.
Would be setting off earlier than usual about 1pm latest from B62. Would need to see their match ticket. Contribution to costs not expected and would not be accepted.
Wonder if others would help if a thread was started?
-
Trains from Euston delayed or cancelled. QPR supporters going to have a job on getting to VP.

Latest tweet says they'll try and make an announcement before 9. Reads like they're gearing up to tell us it's off.

💬❄️ We can confirm an inspection is currently taking place concerning the viability of the #AVLQPR game
Conditions in and around the stadium deteriorated dramatically overnight
Safety of supporters is our main priority and we hope to make a further announcement before 9am

Yep, it reads that way.

I live about a mile from the ground. I'd be amazed if the game goes ahead. All roads covered in thick snow. And I'm guessing so will the stands be even though the pitch is playable.
-
Just travelled down from Harrogate to Solihull. Absolutely no weather-related issues until I pulled off the M42 ... there’s been no road clearance work at all, it seems.
If this is typical of the area, the game will not take place.
-
Game will be called off before 9am, by the tone of the OS update.

I haven't even seen a gritted. It amazes me how no council ever prepares for this.

Perhaps because it is a little more frequent, bad weather in Yorkshire is usually very well reponded to by the local authorities. Down here in south Brum, I’m amazed that virtually nothing appears to have been done.
Just an observation.
Looks like I’ll be heading back up north sooner than I thought, after having checked on my aged father.

Rearranged for Tuesday 13th March

Fly over from Holland for this one, but having seen the state of North Brum it was the right thing to do. Public safety first.

They were out gritting yesterday morning, I even saw one of the trucks get stuck in the snow but so much fell over a long period yesterday it was mayhem by evening rush hour. At around 8:00 p.m. the roads were starting to look a little better where they had been gritted but it was still snowing. I have cleared my drive twice over the past couple of days and it looks as though it hasn’t been touched.
-
Will probably be on fecking Sky now.

Yeah, I don't understand why rugby can cope with 24 hour postponements but football needs two weeks to prepare for a rearranged game.

Yeah, I don't understand why rugby can cope with 24 hour postponements but football needs two weeks to prepare for a rearranged game.
Football matches require a larger police presence, which needs to be arranged well in advance. This is the same reason why cup replays can no longer be played in the midweek following the original match.
-
I'm robotically programmed to a set routine on a home matchday.....
How the hell am I going to cope?

The Leeds game is still on a Saturday isn’t it ?
No. Friday night.

Okay; flash-storms, I guess.

Nope. Sky have shifted it to Friday night. (and declared my travel plans null and void at the same time.)

That's great news for me.
Was going to miss it because of a free weekend at the HRH Blues Festival in Sheffield.

There's no chance the Derby game won't be on the box.

seems to be generally expected that that one will get moved
-
Re: the Leeds game....I recall seeing something about it moved to Friday, but it’s not on any official villa, Sky or EFL websites.
Pretty shit for people who need to plan in advance.
-
Wolves off too.
-
Surely with the amount we’re paying them we could have got Micah Richards and Gabby to sprinkle a bit of grit around the ground.
-
Absolutely astounded Brizzle haven't called their game off yet given the weather was worst in that part of the world.
I guess the stereotypical answer is that they all travel around in tractors anyway...
-

They couldn't shovel shit.....
-
I'm impressed with the ticket office's efficiency. The game was called off at 8.30. At 9.15 I received an e-mail telling me that the cost of tickets I'd bought for the German Lions had been refunded.
-
I assume their flights were cancelled so they haven't lost out financially?
-
Don't know but reckon this could be the first VP game postponed in March, since 63, when we had one of the worst winters ever, older H & V members will remember that year.
Also think this could be the first game called off, since we had underground heating put in.
-
Some dimwit on Facebook asking how he goes about getting a refund on his ticket as he can't make the re-arranged fixture. Cue some very sarcastic replies.
-
Good. A few more days rest for Jack.
Agreed...the only downside is 4 games in 10 days though...at least we have a squad
-
I assume their flights were cancelled so they haven't lost out financially?
It was quite a saga, Chris. They travelled from Regensburg to Munich yesterday afternoon. Their evening flight to B'ham was cancelled and they were then put on a plane to Manchester, which didn't take off. So they abandoned the trip in the small hours of this morning. They're negotiating a flight refund, and their hotel in B'ham only charged for one night.
-

I was about to ask the same question on here!
I've looked on the official club website but there doesn't seem to be a place to actually get a refund.
Any ideas?
-
Just give them a ring. Maybe wait a few days as they'll likely be inundated, and might well be short-staffed due to the weather. I remember getting my money back when Wigan away was postponed without any problem.
-
At least it is not like the 'good old days' when you would arrive at the ground to find a hand written note on the gate telling you that the game is off!
-

Cheers!
-
If you bought tickets online they'll probably just put the money straight back in without you having to do anything!
I cancelled 2 tickets yesterday by phone that I'd bought online because there was no way my friends were going to make it up from Somerset, and the money was back in my account a couple of hours later.
For most people this is going to be pretty straightforward I think.

FOOD DONATION | Following the cancellation of today’s @AVFCOfficial game, we have over 700 packed lunches to donate to homeless charities in Birmingham. Please contact Guy Rippon on 07825 098154 for more details.

Good stuff. Well done Villa.
-
I remember getting off a train somewhere in the 80's , knowing our game had been postponed, when we bumped into Tommy Docherty, getting off the same train, going to the same game, and he didn't have a clue.
-
Hopefully the physio's wife was still able to make the game.

I assume this will be played midweek starting March 12th (week after Wolves game) as after that is an international two weeks and then we've got Reading, Leeds and Cardiff in the next few midweeks.
Disappointing it's not on considering Cardiff aren't playing today either but we are one of the better clubs around for always getting games on, December 2000 was last time we had a game called off for bad weather.
-
13th I think.
-

Back in 1989, the reverse of this fixture was called off as we were on the M1 on our way down. Thankfully, the time old tradition of hanging a scarf out the window meant some kind soul overtook us near Newport Pagnall holding up a hand scribbled note saying "game off".
-
13th I think.
Sorry yes didn't see the tweet stating it after my post.

You boys and girls are getting a little bit of Canada it seems. This is the right decision. If as a nation you’re not accustomed to and dealing with these conditions, especially how it has happened in such a short space of time then staying safe is the most intelligent option.
Be safe everyone and look out for your neighbours too.

- Tuesday 6th March
Sunderland vs AVFC
- Saturday 10th March
AVFC vs Wolves
- Tuesday 13th March
AVFC vs QPR
- Saturday 17th March
Bolton vs AVFC
That's a busy 10 days.....
The good news is there is then 14 days break, due to Internationals

Haha...you’re right. Thinking about you all though. The worst winter I ever saw here was early in 2000 I believe where the city was so backed up with continuous days of snow the army was called in to help and move snow out of the inner core. Even the ploughs could no longer cope with the sheer volume and had nowhere left to put the snow. I remember having 10ft snow piles either side of the drive in front of my house. And that was before I had a snow blower. My back was fucked.

I suppose a disappointing thing is while we aspire to be in the premier league, no premier league games are off.
-

If there were any being played in Birmingham they would be.
-
The fact that all the Prem games are on, even at shitholes like Watford, makes me think it's down to manpower to clear the area around the ground.
If that's the case, why didn't the club appeal to fans to help out? I'm sure there'd have been plenty of volunteers to get the game on.
-
Suits us not to play. Allows injuries more time to heal I suppose.

Was the weather that much better in Swansea and Southampton?

Someone just made a good point - with emergency services stretched to breaking point, do we really want another 30,000 people making unnecessary journeys?

I’m sure if they really wanted to the game would have gone ahead. The stadium inside would have been fine. But in the end given everything else that is going on in the the area is it really worth it? Not just for the fans but also for those having to work in or around the area, emergency staff etc. Who as has already been pointed out should be helping others in more need than manning a game. I understand the frustration but in there end this makes sense.

I don't disagree with any of that but why are we different to all those Premier League clubs? I've been out and about Brum for the last two hours and it's fine. All the main roads are ok and the side roads are fine if you drive sensibly.
Stick a pair of wellies on and there's no issue on the footpaths either.
-
It's not just the fans who have to get there, it's everybody who has to work at the ground on a match day as well. It just made sense to call it off rather than just sticking on a pair of wellies.
-
Disappointed it was snowed off but pleased my nephew told me early this morning while I was at the barber’s in London prior to setting off.
Presume it was the surrounding areas rather than the pitch that caused the postponement?
-
To be honest I'm watching Burnley v Everton & everyone just looks freezing and miserable. What's the point?
-

That was what I was going to say. Who wants to sit still for an hour and a half in this? I could've put up with it in the days of terracing when you're huddled up, but sod sitting in it.
-
And they have spent at least £40 each and associated expense and botheration of getting to and from the ground. It’s not pleasure for sure.
-
;Just look at the train timetables for proof that it would have been both pointless and dangerous.

But as you well know, because those folk from SHA keep telling you, 99% of us have got to get in from the shires.
-

Err no premier league ground is located in B6. And by the way our facilities are better than all but may be 2 or 3 PL grounds.
Edit: ooops just noticed been done to death above.
-
Someone just made a good point - with emergency services stretched to breaking point, do we really want another 30,000 people making unnecessary journeys?
I have been doing some errands for Heartlands Hospital due to suitability of my Solihull tractor over the last 24 hours and yes they are very stretched.
-

Totally unfit to deal with this white stuff however we deal with rain at world class level. 10ft is not fun but I guess you guys live with it.

I suppose a disappointing thing is while we aspire to be in the premier league, no premier league games are off.
How many games did we have called off when we were in the prem again?
Edit: I get the feeling the signal failures and the Cross City line being down yesterday afternoon/evening spooked them a bit. Same thing happens today and you get 10k fans having to get to VP by other means.
I was just about to catch a train at 4.45pm yesterday when the line was suspended and so had to wait an hour to get a bus and didn't get home until 7pm.
It snowed in Brum for 10 hours yesterday, very rarely that happens during the day.
-
When I was a kid I hated the fact we used to lose games due to having no Underground heating, I couldn't believe the greatest club in the whole wide world didn't have it.
-
I'm glad to be sitting here in the warm rather than freezing at Villa Park. As long as we have tropical, shirt sleeve weather when it is played in 10 days on a dark Tuesday night.
-

I wish he'd driven past us, we made it to the ground and saw a similar note sellotaped to the club office window.
-
To be honest I'm watching Burnley v Everton & everyone just looks freezing and miserable. What's the point?
Can you blame them watching that?

I've just been into town and anyone who still thinks the match should have been on should have done the same.

When I was a kid I hated the fact we used to lose games due to having no Underground heating, I couldn't believe the greatest club in the whole wide world didn't have it.
A number of games were conveniently postponed. I remember a game in the 70's against Newcastle when we were 4th and them 5th we won by a decent score and it had snowed on the morning of the match, yet games for no real apparent reason against the likes of Spurs, Leeds at VP were postponed. This was not uncommon at the time as clubs would not do much to keep a game going ahead if it was inconvenient to themselves
-
Ha! Have just checked the forecast for the 13th and it's breezy with hail! FFS!
-
Ten day forecasters from the weather offices are just show-offs. It'll be grand.
-
Would it have been postponed if we was in the premier league though.
-
Would it have been postponed if we was in the premier league though.
Yes, because QPR are in the Championship, so we'd have had no away team.
-
Oh don't be cruel Richard E. Just humour him.
-
I think your missing my point.
-
I think your missing my point.
Yes Richard with an e stop it xx

OK do you think some other say commercial pressure is brought into play by the Premier League to ensure games are played regardless of public safety? The match location is still B6 whatever League we are in.
-

Mate if we was in the premier league that game would have been on. Sky and motd would have had cameras there for highlights Sunday morning programmes etc and would have twisted villas arms.

I know where you're coming from but I don't it's the case here. It's been a nightmare on the roads for all but a few hours this afternoon, and the pavements are worse. As Dave points out, there's a moral aspect to the decision not just on the direct welfare of supporters, but also public services which are streched themselves by the conditions.

Ok fair enough. Probably just frustration on my part and another reason why we need to get back in the premier league pronto, and if we get another bad spell of weather while we’re in there we will know the answer.
-
I don’t think there was any game played in the PL today where the weather was anywhere near as bad as it was in Brum. Correct me if I’m wrong
-
I don't buy it that it's so much worse in Brum than other parts of the country where games have been played.
As a few examples, Burnley played while Rochdale (16 miles away) got postponed, Spurs played while Barnet (13 miles away) was called off, Southampton played when just down the road in the New Forest hundreds of people were stranded in their cars Thursday night.
If there's a will there's a way. Maybe the club felt it suited us for the game to be delayed given our injury list but it feels wrong to me.
-
Why Wolves then ? I notice most games were postponed due to frozen pitches as opposed to weather conditions
-

I would say that on the comparatively quiet Snow Hill line at least half the trains were cancelled and most of the rest delayed. Every road I saw, including the city centre, was affected and every pavement slippy at best and downright dangerous in places. That's in comparatively quiet areas so I dread to think what conditions would have been like if thirty thousand people had been using them. Add the extra strain on public and emergency services and you get the only sensible decision.
-
In the end the game I am sure could have gone ahead. We'd have had 22k in the ground or less because supporters from both sides would have had trouble getting to the game, the kiosks would be shorter staffed, less police and other such services etc etc. But a decision was made, I assume in conjunction with QPR, transport services, the emergency services, police especially that if the game could be postponed then it would be a good idea. I am guessing that's ultimately how it went down and the club while acknowledging supporter disappointment felt it was the best of all options. I don't see an issue with that approach as I am convinced we didn't make it independently.
-
Given that only the night before the game, conditions on the expressway were absolutely dreadful, part of the decision must have considered the likelihood of more snow today. The forecasts were still saying more snow was likely, so I can only feel they took the sensible decision.
Can you imagine the outrage if the game had gone ahead only for people to put their lives in danger trying to get home after the game?
-

We were on our way to that one as well.
-
I spoke to a friend, Rangers supporter, and he was pleased that announcement was made early. Him and his friends were dreading driving up and would have been gutted if it had been called off at say midday.
-
Does anyone know what the process is for getting a refund for this game? It doesn't mention on the website.
