Any assistance with decent recommendations would be most welcome. I have heard close to Fulham Broadway there are a few.
-
Eight Bells near Putney is excellent atmosphere
-
I used to live in Putney, but it's been six years, so some of this might be no longer applicable.
The Eight Bells is round the corner as you come out of Putney Bridge tube station and was traditionally a pub used by away fans. Some of the pubs on the Fulham Road (up on to the bridge and right), you used to have to prove you were a home supporter to get in, but I can't remember which ones. There's a big pub that way called the Temperance.
If you go the other way and cross the bridge towards Putney, there's a few pubs when you turn right on to Lower Richmond Road overlooking the river and a few on the high street and its side streets - my favourite back then was the Coat and Badge, just off the high street by Barclays, on Lacy Road. There's another nice little pub further on down that road too, the Jolly Gardeners.
As for the high street, there's the Spotted Horse about three-quarters of the way up, the Fox & Hounds and a Wetherspoons on the corner of Upper Richmond Road.
-
The eight bells is always full of Villa fans
-
the Crabtree, on the bank of the Thames is the best pub around.
-
London's most irrelevant club, Fulham.
-
The Crabtree been going there every time we play Fulham nice pub good atmosphere and big beer garden.

Drove to London after the Blues game last Sunday and funnily enough ended up in the Spotted Horse for a drink and meal. Nice pub. I checked with the lady who served us if football fans are welcome and they are, including away. I warned her there would be an invasion of Brummies in a few days!

London's best club, as far as I am concerned.
-
Seconded. A great bunch of lads. If they'd ever let us win there, I'd like them even more.
-
Coat & Badge and Jolly Gardener are both very good pubs but doubt they will have much of a football crowd (certainly not away fans) as they're just that little bit off Putney High Street (especially the Jolly Gardeners). They're also both primarily rugby clubs although no 6 nations this weekend will mean there's no clash.
The Spotted Horse (on Putney High Street) is an ok pub - no screens or anything like that but decent enough space to get a couple of pints in.
I've never been to the Eight Bells but that is always full of away fans so i'd probably recommend that to be honest.

That's where I'm going too!
-
Do try Monty’s Nepalese on the Fulham Road (10 or 15 minutes walk from the ground). Second in my all-time curry houses list.
-

Agreed. Never seen us win at the Cottage, only once when they played at Loftus Rd in 2004.
Still my favourite away game, and it's a 30-40 minute walk from my house. Which is why I am gutted to miss it tomorrow.
-
Aye. Two of the nearest grounds to me are Brentford and Fulham, and I've had to miss both.
Still, at least there is still Millwall. :/

I lived in Putney in the early '80's and the Gardners was a cracking little pub.
Tomorrow, I'll be in the Eight Bells.

Where is the eight bells in relation to the tube station?
-
About 200 yards away in the direction of Fulham High Street.
-
Thanks all.

#avfc #utv The Temperence, The Eight Bells and The Dukes Head will all get very busy so either arrive early or use Putney, short walk over the bridge. Plenty of on street parking around Fulham area but not close to the stadium after 1pm & 3pm

Personally, I'd heed the advice of crossing Putney Bridge. It takes you away from the ground but it's less packed. The 8 bells will be a nightmare.
-
Cheers.

I have been the eight bells a good few times and always been a great atmosphere and always fine to get a beer
-
Cracking pub, full of Villa
-

Well normally I wouldn't have gone any where near a pub but if you are going to be there Darren than that's where we are heading. Don't forget to come over and say hello :)

Must rank as one of the most pointless first posts. Hopefully you will get better.

And remember Daz it does actually open at 12, I called them, I think you dreamt it opened at 11 last time. See you tomorrow.

Horses for courses mate. I'm a grumpy old man, I hate crowds and noise.

Well I am insulted by that as I am a very grumpy old man, maybe if you hate crowds and noise you should change allegiance to the noses lol. Enjoy your dayvand if anyone in the eight bells sees an old git with specs and a claret jacket and looking a bit gormless with little hair, I'm sure a pint of anything would cheer him up :-)

Aye. Two of the nearest grounds to me are Brentford and Fulham, and I've had to miss both.

You must be relatively (in London terms) near me. I'm less than 2 miles from Brentford and 6 from Craven Cottage. Yet I never, ever, see you in my garden. If I had a garden I'd be freaked the eff out.
-
Are you lads involved in a london lions club at all. My lad lives in london and think I am the only Villa fan now in Luton lol

Of course but obviously I was going to PM you Tony ;) See you tomorrow.
-
Olaftab, I aint being second choice to Darren lol. Have a great day, got to say a draw would be a good result for me but would so love a win. Still on a high from last Sunday
-
London's most irrelevant club, Fulham.
Well they had an England World Cup winner which is one up on us.
-
The Bricklayers Arms is a classic
-
Gutted to be missing this fixture today. If your looking for a cheaper pint there are 2 very decent Wetherspoons The Rocket off Putney Bridge or the Railway on high street

Yep

Arrived too late everywhere packed apart from Boma Bridge which I’m currently in...this reminds me of 70s away days with Villa something’s a changing...

Is Luton Lol near Hemmel Hamster or Wellin Wellin Garden Garden?

Where does he live? I run the London Lions with 3 others, e-mail me with his Name, address, Client ref number and phone number and I'll point him to the right one ( North, East South or West) avfclondonlions@outlook.com

I know.

The District Line was playing up yesterday so one of our mates got to the pub before the game on a Boris Bike. Made me laugh anyway.

I was so smashed when I got home, my wife told me this morning, I walked in, ignored her and went straight to the garden and chopped logs for the fire, had a shower and went straight to bed.
-
Should only have accepted 2000 tickets. We also lose when we have massive turn outs - Wigan the obvious exception

I was that pissed after the game I got on the bus without paying and fell asleep it was nice to catch up with you pair again and the rest of the lads.

Seems like I missed quite a day on Saturday judging by the casualty stories. In solidarity with you all I was drinking whisky till 3 after the wedding in Bristol.
-
I was shocked at just how many Villa were there.? In the concourse before half time there looked to be thousands there alone.
-
I ventured all over that London and it seemed that every time the tube doors opened, I could hear Villa fans singing, regardless of where I was in the city.

Last thing I remember was staggering out of a curry house in Hammersmith late on Saturday. Don’t remember getting back but I found a Twix in the back pocket of my jeans on Sunday morning, which was a bonus. Looked like I’d been sitting on it for hours though
-
I got the 21.03 back from Euston in Brum at half ten in a Wetherspoons in Solihull for 11 through until 1.30 then back home whereupon I found myself an hour later asleep on the chair with a Brian Clough documentary on YouTube still on. I’m a 48 year old responsible father of two.
-
I still haven't made it home yet but had an excellent weekend down in Fulham at a mates. His wife currently isn't talking to us
-
When we heard about the delays on the trains, we decided to hang around for a bit longer than planned. Ended up getting back into the house just after 12.30am with a chocolate cake and herbal tablet in my hoody top pocket.
-
0-0 under Graham Taylor was, with the exception of the FAQF win at Goodison, the most pissed I've ever been at a match. We were on the High Road at 9 after drinking on the train. We went the wrong way from the Eight Bells so passing it again popped in for a couple of large Whiskey's to aid further navigation.
At HT I blissfully headed for the exit believing the 90 mins had flown by until halted by a concerned fellow fan. I followed him into the toilet and at the stall asked him who had scored our goal. "It's nil nil mate" he responded.
I can't remember anything else.

Exactly. Too many arseholes there. We don’t want a repeat of it if we hsve to go there in the playoffs.
‘Great away day.’ Load of bollocks.
