Another good read Dave.

Done.

We're in for some ride if we play anything like that Newcastle team. Cheers Dave, nice read and unexpected Sunday lunch time treat (psst think there maybe a typo on homage).

There was. Ta.

You mentioned Nigel Sims. He died on January 6th - the day we played Peterborough, the team he joined after he left us.
-
Good read Dave, couldn't agree more with you about Nigel Sims. Liverpool last week paid tribute to their former keeper, Tommy Lawrence, who had given similar long time service to their club, as Nigel gave to Villa. Likewise I feel Alan Deakin deserved a tribute, both Nigel and Alan are two of a select bunch of players, who have made over 300 appearances for us.

Agreed with your comments about Big Nige Dave .I also agree with Villa Lew regarding Alan Deakin
-
Another good read. Great that you are able to write, and we able to read about another victory, I'm sure that having to write up a new piece after each game of the relegation season was challenging to say the least.
I enjoy reading your points of view, keep up the good work.

As I said, I wouldn't be too harsh on the club without knowing the full facts - it may be that the families didn't want anything public. That said, I do get the impression now that the 'family' ethos that was there with Doug in charge and which Lerner for all his faults continued (and which in some ways held us back under both men although that's another argument for another day) is gone now.
-
That's an interesting point Dave. Without the family or the ethos what actually defines the club?
-
Shame about David Platt. His complete lack of any good feelings to the club always struck me as strange. Oh well.
-
Good point made about Nigel Sims. May be something can be done v Burton.
-
Nigel Sims was before my time but deserved to be mentioned for his Villa record alone
you don't have to have seen people to appreciate what they did for the club
so well written Dave
-
Good article Dave shame about lack of tributes to Alan Deakin and Nigel Sims, however having been lucky enough to see them both ,tributes paid to them on this site and elsewhere were excellent.
-
Clever piece. Love the perfect pitch word play. Like even more the distain for David Platt. The great player we had but never did have. Just like Danny Blanchflower. All the claret and blue airbrushed by the London media.
-
I agree with what you say about Nigel Sims and the pitch.
Nigel was the best Villa goalkeeper I've seen, perhaps less capable of the spectacular save than Mark Bosnich but also more dependable.
As for the pitch, it really is cutting up badly. Jonathan Calderwood was head-hunted by PSG, but that was a few years ago and in fact we won the Championship pitch of the year award last season. Strange that it's deteriorated so badly this season, or more specifically since Christmas.
-
Great article again Dave...you ain't too bad at this writing thing are you?
Agree with what others have said about Nigel Sims and Alan Deakin...when I was a babby my big brother had two heroes....Nigel and Gerry Hitchens...a few years later Alan Deakin became one of mine. I hope the club can do both the credit they deserve soon.

Good read plus meant I spent the next 30 minutes on other articles on the site instead of doing work. Not all bad.
