Wow, I like the way your mind works Steve. ;)
-
Like the line up and shows the strength in depth we have - only Hogan Samba and Kodjia still injured - I don't count Gabby !
-
De Laet at centre half?
-
Win please.
-
Happy with line-up, interested to see how Callum does and Grealish is waiting in the wings if needed. Would love a stream...feels like forever since we've seen Green as well.
-
Why play one up front at home vs Peterborough? I’d like to have seen RHM start. The critical thing will be how we play now that Davis is back in. He’s a big target so will we go back to whacking it long or stay with the style we played vs Bristol City?
-
As long as someone puts one on that tosser taylor I'll be happy.

My thoughts exactly. I'd have Rushian up with Davis, and O'Hare behind them. Cautious Bruce, though. It's the norm

Why play a formation that the first team isn’t playing? They can still be extremely attacking but retain the consistency of formation
-
Fuck sake, play Rushian, not the big fella who we just lump it to.
-
Surely this game was a perfect chance to pair Tommy and Terry?

Why can't they be flexible?

If you'd asked me a couple of weeks ago how we'd play it would be a no brainer. Now with Agnew behind the scenes, I'm hoping for something a lot more intelligent than the usual Bruce guff. Expect O'Hare to be given a free role as the 10, Green and Bjork wide with Hourihane and hopefully Onomah in the centre. Ideally I'd love to see Onamah playing deeper there but I still have little faith in Bruce in playing him in his best position.
I guess giving RDL a go in the middle along side Terry is an opportunity to test what would be an emergency situation should we lose Chester, Elphick and Samba. Maybe Bree has been given the go ahead at right back to give a few clubs a look at him with the idea of a loan this window.
With such an embarrassment of riches, we shouldn't expect anything but a convincing Villa win but then it is the Cup. Nah. 3-0 Villa.

Easy now. We've gone 18 months with no plan, then after one game with a plan you want a second? Not very demanding are you, Nicholas?

Haha. I don't know what came over me. I blame jetlag
-
I like the line up, and expect a good win.
-
I hope a couple of the young uns can grab their chance. Hope RHM gets a run in the second half. UTV
-
chance for Posh there
-
Bree at centre half and RDL at RB
Posh should be one up but missed an easy chance
-
Is there a stream for this anywhere?
-
1-0 Davis
Good play by RDL in the build up
-
gggooaalll davis
-
I rate RDL
-
Is there a stream for this anywhere?
I guess only audio - listening in Lisbon on the official App
-
1-0 Keinan
-
I rate RDL
And me.
-
1-0 Villa
-
Get in.
-
Anybody know who’s playing where? Difficult to tell on the wireless
-
How on earth did Posh mot score then?
-

Steer
RDL
Bree
JT
Taylor
Bjork
Airport
Conor
Josh
Green
Davis
-
So is Bjork the holding midfielder?
-
Any idea how we are playing? I mean style of play? Are we trying to knock it around and run from midfield, or kicking it long to Keinan?

Shit style by the sound of it! We seem to be hanging on with Steer already making a number of good saves

Reporter on BBC Football Focus says Villa lying deep since they scored and Posh looking more likely to score
-
sounds like we were on top for the first 15, since then Posh have been on top and should have scored.
-
Only one up as HT appproaches? My French team, AJ Auxerre are 0-4 up at Schiltigheim in the Coupe de France. Bruce OUT!

Awesome. Sounds like the free flowing football we all hoped for post Bristol City

AJ Auxerre manager IN
-
Steer our best player so far

Probably should have expected a reversal to Bruce's safety first style after the Bristol game.

All our free flowing football this season was used in the Bristol City game - he will sit deep and use that game as proof that we are exciting.
-
Bruce is going to have to change this as it’s clearly not working. Very lucky to be winning at half time
-
Very lucky to go in one up
Posh have created far more chances
Couple of great saves by Steer
-
Sounds disappointing since the goal.
-
TBF, with ten changes you cannot make any comparison to the previous game. It's a fitness exercise for most of them and if we get through then it's a bonus.

If we manage to win at home to Peterborough in the FA Cup it's no more than a bonus?
Crikey.
-
Why can we not get any momentum
-
TBF, with ten changes you cannot make any comparison to the previous game. It's a fitness exercise for most of them and if we get through then it's a bonus.
Is this Bruce's view of the cup, not important compared to the league, or a case of underestimating Posh?
-
Steer's performance sounds like a bonus, he'll probably drop a clanger now I've said that.
-
It's gone a bit flat last 20 minutes. Balance isn't right, but you get disjointed performances sometimes with rusty players and a group whose not played before.
We need to be quicker at closing in the final third of our half and move that ball quicker.
I'd bring Callum central.

Crikey.
If we played our best team then I am sure we'd be comfortable. As is it, we playing a combination of players coming back from injury, players that have had little game time or kids. It was hardly going to be a coherent display and tbh I don't really care. A cup run is not what we really need with other priorities.

Where is Callum playing then? Can’t tell on the radio
-
We had been zipping it around finding space quite nicely first 20 minutes. We've just lost O'Hare out the game and started taking too many touches and feeding through Green who has been very poor.
-
He's wide right.
-
AJ Auxerre won 1-5 and Schiltigheim had one disallowed. Meanwhile in the Villa dressing room, Bruce is planning a Total Football Tiki-Taka trouncing of the Posh.
-
What formation are we playing and what players where?
-
Priority this month has to be six points.
I'd like to win a few rounds of the cup but reality is we'll be battered once we draw a decent premier league team.
-
Henri on for Andre
-
He's wide right.
He does not play there for the U23's, so why play him there?
-

Is this a premonition of things to come if we're promoted? ;)

yeah but I want a big top 6 team away so we can be the plucky lower league side with a sell out away allocation and loads of balloons and stuff
-
And not be castigated for entering the pitch at FT.
-
BBC stats show Villa 5 shots, 3 on target, Posh 10 shots and 6 on target.
We need another goal or they'll nick one and take us back to Peterborough

Lovely Cathedral they got there though

Don't take us back to Peterborough.

We did all that at Spurs last season and it was a dreadful watch.
We can dream of winning the cup again when we're an established premier league team.
Looking at the team, is Hogan injured? Surely you'd start him again as he actually had a good game last time. Would be interested how him and Davis would look as a partnership.

True, I worked in Peterborough on a contract a few years back, saw a few Posh mid-week matches to fill the evenings
-
Sounds like second half just as bad as the first half. Come on Bruce change it

Twisted ankle.
-
All I keep hearing is Jack Marriott misses again. Unless he changes it he won’t keep missing
-
I'll have 78 minutes in the Posh equaliser sweep.
-
It does sound like it's all them.
-
All I keep hearing is Jack Marriott misses again. Unless he changes it he won’t keep missing
He's a tad wasteful isn't he?
-
Get Murphy on ffs
-
Sounds like we’ve finally woken up
-
1-1
Thoroughly deserved
-
1-1
-
Villa are back.
-
I'll have 78 minutes in the Posh equaliser sweep.
Fuuuuck! 76 minutes.
-
Just what they deserve.
-
Hardly a surprise.
-
All I keep hearing is Jack Marriott misses again. Unless he changes it he won’t keep missing
😡
-
So we’ve gone from the highs of Bristol City back down to the big standard shit Bruce has been known to serve up. And he wonders why we might get fucked off with him. And as much as KD scores today it all started with playing him up front on his own at home to Peterborough. So much of sports is played in the mind and Bruce has this mental block that ensures he is always adopts a caution first approach.
The scoreline is absolutely indicative of that.
-
Fucks sake
-
All I keep hearing is Jack Marriott misses again. Unless he changes it he won’t keep missing
He's a tad wasteful isn't he?
Told you!
-
Embarrassing.
-
Sounds like Posh should've been well ahead anyway by now.
-
We're being played off the pitch by Peterborough at a half empty Villa Park. Hopefully this time we won't get into any embarrassing "we're bigger than you" spats on rival messageboards.
-
nealy scored there from bjork
-
Pathetic. Was Bristol a false dawn against a team nackered rather than the beginning of us flexing our muscles as well all hoped?
-
Birkir hits the bar
-
Perspective required.
-
typical Bruce - wakes up after they score - why does he let his teams just sit back at 1-0
-
Because he doesn't want to risk our better players. If Jack gets fucked in the next ten you'll be having a moan.
-
Bristol was a one-off but I think we all hoped something had clicked or changed at Villa. Whereas this game seems to suggest that nope - we're still pretty shit.
-
Birkir off for RHM and O'Hare off for Greslish
-
Birkir off for RHM and O'Hare off for Grealish
Fucking hell. Going mad now, quoting myself, rather than correcting a spelling mistake
-
Because he doesn't want to risk our better players. If Jack gets fucked in the next ten you'll be having a moan.
and these players aint good enough? ffs
-
Bruce you are useless and an embarrassment.
-
It's a different team FFS.
-
To be fair we’ve all been banging on about giving the youngsters a chance. If they don’t take it that’s their fault.
-
It's a different team FFS.
I thought we were still Aston Villa?
-
Oh dear.
1-2.
-
It's a different team FFS.
Can we be Barcelona?
-
We didn't seem to be set up to really get at them though, formation and tactics must have a bearing on the effectiveness of players.
-
1-2
Posh the better team
-
Oh Jesus.
-
Fuck sake.
-
We can concentrate on not getting promoted now.
-
Deary me
-
ffs 1-2
-
Game over.
-
Shameful.
-
Dr T sack him now or go yourself.
-
Fucks sake again.
-
Maybe the likes of O'Hare have proved they are not good enough.
-
For the sake of fuck!
-
Game over.
The players didn't fancy visiting Peterborough then
-
For the sake of fuck!
Is that because you lost your equaliser bet by three minutes.
-
at least we will be first on MOTD
-
Game over.
The players didn't fancy visiting Peterborough then
They certainly didn't fancy visiting the fourth round.
-
Got to think if we were serious about this Grealish would've started rather than being saved for Nottingham next week.
Reality is too many fringe players starting today. Add in Green who's been out for five months so he won't be at 100% yet.
-
Doesn't sound overly surprising. Good to see we've carried on the moment from Monday...
-
We can concentrate on not getting promoted now.
And being hysterical.
-
Pull the trigger Tony, this clown isn't up to the job.
-
at least we will be first on MOTD
Stoke going out is a bigger shock.
-
Fucking pathetic. It really, truly is. All this talk about how much the cup means to him and he sends out a team to be conservative home against lower league opposition. And saying how it was "Peterborough's big day out" didn't help either.
I was just thinking the last thing we need right now is a replay. Now I'm thinking we really need a replay.
-
Put the potato in the compost bin.
-
Pull the trigger Tony, this clown isn't up to the job.
He isn't getting sacked for going out of a competition we have next to no chance of winning. Same as when we had our awful cup results under Lambert.
-
Pull the trigger Tony, this clown isn't up to the job.
Are you serious? He's played a team that most would've backed and rested our first XI after a congested festive period. Now you can see why some of the players are not getting a game. As for the cup, what was the point of extra games?
-
Fuck sake, the useless oaf.
-

the team looked good enough on paper thou , Its the way Bruce sets up his bloody team
-
Anyone at all impressing today? How has Chris Forrester played for Peterborough?
-
It's the hope that kills you.
-

Not really. Who can support Davis? Green first game since August? I know Bjarni scored the other day but we know he's nothing special.
Without Adomah and Grealish we're nothing special in the final third.
-
Can focus on the league now.
Bruceratops might be the tool for the job at hand right now, but god damn is the man infuriating.
-
It's not an ok thing for us to lose to Peterborough at home in the cup, no matter how you choose to sugar it.

-

Or any update of Villa at all. I wonder if it's because our game was on the radio they chose not to cover it on live text?

I'm hoping it means they haven't actually happened and we are being hysterical for no reason.
-
FFS
-
Um...
-
wow. Just wow. Fuck off Bruce you embarrassing dope.
This would have been a massively shit result at their place, let alone VP.
-
So predictable.
-
1957 seems even further away.
-
Wow, just wow. All this mass hysteria is ridiculous, can't you all see the progress we are making ?
-
I really think they wanted to be knocked out. For once, I'm not sure it's a bad idea.
Onwards. I'd rather it was without Bruce, however.
-
Crikey, I see the Villa engine is working throughout the whole squad then?
Fucking bollocks.

When we get back established in the premier league we can look to win the FA cup.
I'm just not sure how anyone can look at it now as that.
Last season Brighton lost at Lincoln. Newcastle lost 3-0 at Oxford. Doubt any of their fans cared at the end of the season.
-
Embarrassing
-
Fucking bollocks. Outclassed by Peterborough.

Probably thought with Jimmy Danger, Gabby and Hogan all injured we can't afford to risk getting other forwards injured as the league is the important one. Still pissed off with the result though.
-
Chalk up another name on the embarrassment board.
Useless Villa are back.
-
He will spin this now as he gave squad players a chance and they let him down.
-
No wonder Barry Fry thinks Bruce should be manager of Manchester Utd and we are lucky to have him.

Bruce is a rubbish manager, I've never liked him, and never will. This kind of result just sums him up.
But fair play to Peterborough, it sounds like they thoroughly deserved it. We just sounded pedestrian and drab. But what's new really.

like most of the season even with the first teamers
-
‘We’ve had a horrible one. It just shows you what this league is like anyone can beat anyone. It’s that sort of league. I suppose it’s crisis time at Villa again this week is it. Off with me Head. Look congratulations to Peterborough they’re a very very good side. I’ve got nine injuries and my cap’in is only back for the first time since November. We move onto next week.’
‘But steve they aren’t in our league and this was the cup.’
‘I suppose it’s crisis time again at Villa is it?’
-

Or he didn't trust them enough and sent them out tactically conservative and we ended up playing most of the praying they didn't score. And once they did they just kept attacking. And scoring.
-
61 years and counting.
-
bjork can feck off to Italy now please
-
It's not an ok thing for us to lose to Peterborough at home in the cup, no matter how you choose to sugar it.
Agreed, a good win against Bristol was just one game, Bruce doesn't seem capable of producing a team who can be consistent over many games, except perhaps for a team who is regularly inconsistent
-
Unprepared, complacent, arrogant Villa given yet another lesson by lower league opposition. Thoroughly deserved too.
-
At least we can all enjoy the royal wedding now.

That's true mate, and although it was nice to see us batter Bristol City, it did reek of being an absolute one off.
From about the 10 minute mark until the final whistle of the Sheff Utd game, I was bored rigid by our lack of movement and ball control, the backwards passes and lack of zip to our game.
Bruce teams tend to play like that. I long for the day he vanishes from our club.
