Title: FA Cup Round 3 - Peterborough (Home)
Post by: The Laughing Policeman on December 02, 2017, 12:27:05 PM
Third round draw on Monday .
Who do you want us to get, or are any of you like me in thinking that a run in the cup will be a distraction from more important matters?
Personally I'd be happy with Man City away, get knocked out and then we can concentrate on the more important job of getting back into the Prem.
And with our injury problems do we really need those extra games?

Man City at home. Get it over and done with for this year. We can try and win it when we’re stabilzed back in the prem

I've been told I have to go out that evening so a boring home game would be fine. If we get an exciting away game I hope it gets moved to the Sunday.

Hopefully Sheffield United and Fulham get knocked out so as not to ruin future away trips by having them moved to the midweek.

Wolves at home as I am holiday the weekend  we are due to play them at home in the league.

With some of our fans there will always be a reason to go out of the cups, sadly.

The need for promotion. The need to avoid relegation. The need to finish top 6 and get in Europe (only to throw European games to avoid relegation/challenge for the title).

All from the book of 'Things losers say'.

What's wrong with trying to win every game you play? Now there's an idea.

Someone shit at home so I can get to a match, looks dicey getting to Sheff Utd now because Sky have moved it so I probably won't manage a game in December.

Man Utd away

No lose scenario

JT and Chester mount a noble defence and Jed Steer gets unlucky and spills a Zlatan shot in the 92st minute.

We beat them and ram it down their throats ala MON in 2008/9 or wherever it was.

While I respect your opinion  I completely disagree with you.
I think the likes of Archie Hunter, John Devey, Harry Hampton, Eric Houghton, Johnny Dixon, and Peter McParland would agree with me. What former or present Villains can you name who you think would agree with you ?

As far back as I remember the FA Cup propelled clubs onto the upward spiral

Chelsea 1970 (winners of the Cup winners club the season after and became  quite a smallish fashionable club)
Sunderland 1973 (promotion within the next 12 months)
West Ham 1980 (through gritted teeth - good  finish to the season and promotion)
Everton 1984 (league champions for the first time since 1970 12 months later)
Manchester United 1990 (the rebirth of trophies for Man Ure and saved Ferguson from the Chop)

The cup is something to be embraced not shunned

I am not particularly a PC  person but to play MK Dons - its a big No.

I would boycott the tie.  I know most would go and good luck to you.  But they are not a football club  as far as I am concerned.

I don't think any of them would agree with me. But as you say it's just my opinion on an Internet forum.
I said a few years ago on here that I've decided not to die until win the bloody thing again, so all I'm doing really is hoping to extend my life by another year. :)

It might do if they were playing Man United, but I doubt the twenty or so thousand at Villa Park and the three thousand at The Sty will cause too much panic.

I can still see Villa being moved as the BBC move about a dozen games to the Sunday.

From those around us in the league only Bristol City and Derby look like not making it through to the next round and having to play an additional game(s).

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Swansea City
Cardiff City v Mansfield Town
Ipswich v Sheffield United
Watford v Bristol City
Manchester United v Derby County
Newport County v Leeds United

And in 95/96. 6-0 at home, Draper scoring a cracking freekick and I think they had 2 sent off which led to their fans getting a tad boisterous.

We've just got a really boring cup record. I can think of two embarrassing exits this century, Millwall and Sheffield United, and one victory in recent times when we weren't expected to win, Liverpool.

Basically, we rarely lose to shite but are equally incapable of raising our game to beat the better teams which is why we haven't won the bloody thing since MacMillan had just come into office.

Since the 2000 final we've only gone past the 4th round 5 times in 17 attempts, which is a pretty crap record.
We've had a crap cup record for most of the last 60 years.

I would count being battered 4 nil by Arsenal an embarrassing exit too.

If we get Woking there's a decent chance it will be on TV IMO, though with them being away the cameras may not be so chumping at the bit.  I'm happy with the draw.  Probably would prefer Peterborough (I'm from there), and there would be less pressure on us and it would be a smaller upset.  A cup run would be nice, but the league is the key focus.

I wonder how many stands they’ll have open at the Sty for the Burton game...
Appreciate its small time but sod it, i revelled in the latest Blues defeat on Monday night. Wolves fans singing ‘Blues are falling apart again ‘ while their hosts huffed and puffed their way to another goalles home defeat, Sky rubbing it in when explaining 12 months ago they sacked Rowett while nestling comfortably in fifth place or thereabouts,  an air headed Bluenose being red carded for an imbecilic violent act in an attempt to match the behaviour of the onlooking unwashed, if they were still playing now I doubt Blues would have reached the opposition eighteen yard box they were that crap. Bemused Manager, demoralised supporters, powder puff first eleven and as comprehensive a 1-0 as you will ever see. Beautiful. Up yours Blues.

Any noise yet as to which one will be moved? My Bluenose missus and I will be going to both.

Have we ever played Woking in competition before? Last time we played Peterborough was in opening our defence of our '94 LC win IIRC.

I don't want Woking. I don't want Woking. I just don't want my Albion supporting mates to be in with any chance of healing '91.

Of course, BBC are obliged to show all Man U cup games
Amazingly the United game is NOT on the box, the Beeb have got the Merseyside derby on the Friday night.

Part of me thinks I'd rather play a non-league team, but the other part of me thinks that in all of this decade of misery we haven't lost to a non-league team yet, and Villa like to find new and exciting ways to embarrass and annoy me.

Are Woking professional or semi-pro?

You should know that there is no such thing as a professional football team in England.

Has it been mentioned yet that Woking beat the Albion 20 odd years ago 4-2 in the cup at the Hawthorns?  I worked in Surrey around that time so could enjoy their moment in the sun along with them.

We've played Chester, Leyton Orient, Tranmere and Darlington in recent years who were league clubs at the time but are all non league now.

I don't think the Chester that we played exist anymore. The ones in the Conference are a new club. Possibly the same with Darlington.

Never mind the cup we played Orient last game of the season when only a penalty stoppped them going up to Division one  in place of Carlisle.  Probably the lowest Villa support for a league game ever.

Annoying when you're in the position to want to go to both.

Dropped a quick line to the WMP and got a reply back saying because they don't expect high attendances for either game they won't be making representations to the FA that one should be moved.

Not too much as, generally, all the non-league teams are gone by Round Five anyway, last year was an exception. In any case, I dare say we have got to the latter stages more often than 90% of league clubs.

Playing one non-league team in nearly a century is a bizarre and freaky statistic.

Gave the memorial match selection committee any Blues player they wanted at about eight hours notice and said that if he'd been asked the entire team would have been the opposition.
