Title: Aston Villa v Ipswich Town pre-match thread
Post by: Risso on November 24, 2017, 04:06:11 PM
A bit late with this aren't we?

Anyway, I'm hoping for an entertaining and straightforward 2-0 home win, to keep the pressure on the teams above us.

I think this has the potential for a dull 0-0 or 1-1 written all over it.

Can't see Ipswich winning at Villa Park 2 seasons running. If anyone will nick it, it will be us. We need Davis to bully their back line like he did with their East Anglian cousins.

Have Ipswich got any 'experienced' defenders though? That was Davis' problem against Sunderland, from what I read.

Coming up for this one so hopefully a win. One defeat in my last eleven trips was to these last season so hopefully we'll avenge that tomorrow. 2-1 and Albert and Grealish to score.

I wouldn't know any of the Ipswich players if I fell over them in the street so no idea.

Can you inadvertently run his legs over tonight or something?

Any win will send me home happy. It''s a bit like having a bet on a horse.  Yes it's nice if you can see it's going to win with a furlong left to run but at the end of the day it doesn't matter if it wins by 10 lengths  or a short head as long as you collect.

Think it will be tight because Big Mick will have them well drilled and could see them play a effective counter attack game which our lack of pace at the back might struggle to cope with.  But the momentum is with us and their very hit and miss.  Home form has been good, so will go for a 2-0 home win.  Samba and Connor to score.

This will be tough I reckon. I'll go for 1-1. An Adomah penalty.

Agree, Clampy, I'm expecting a tough game, Ipswich were unlucky not to beat Sheff Weds midweek, a team that picked us off at will a couple of weeks ago. They look good going forward but their defence is dodgy, so much will depend on how our defence holds up. Due to their pace, it will suit them if we go at them as I expect we will, so a draw could be well on the cards. Hopefully Mick McCarthy who saw us on Tuesday night thinks we play like that all the time.

2-2 or we actually smash them. You never know what to expect with this team other than one good half, one shite. We really should be expecting 3 points though.

Agreed. Wolves and Sheffield United will almost certainly get 3 points on Saturday, and I wouldn't bet against Cardiff getting something at Forest. We don't want to fall any further behind the top 2.

Don't worry, Peter Withe will leave his stud marks all over Terry Butcher's back who will then cry like a baby.

Play how we did on Tuesday and we won't win. I think we'll be as sluggish and boring which will rub off on the crowd and we'll draw. Saw Dr Tone saying how quiet the crowd was the other night, which it was and I said the same, but the football is shit and slow and not conducive of a vibrant atmosphere.

Bruce is taking it seriously and has respect for Mick McCarthy so I think we will be prepared at least. It does worry me though, Ipswich changed the trajectory of last season for the worse, I hope they don't do the same again.

In my opinion the best way to beat a McCarthy side is to keep the ball and slowly work your way into a solid attack. This gives our quality the best chance to use their skills. Get into a hoofball contest and they win.

Nail biter but 1-0 to the good guys.

Couple of fresh faces needed to give a bit more impetus. The extra days rest will help.

They were utter bilge last year, had one shot and scored. They're more attacking this time but even worse defensively. Without McGoldrick they've lost a key player. No excuses for not beating these.

Johnstone
Taylor
Chester
Samba
Hutton

Jedinak
Hourihane
Grealish

Snodgrass
Davis
Adomah

Lansbury to get a good half hour as well.

I'd like to see a fit Grealish linking up the play just behind Davis for this game. Apparently Grealish was going to be an important feature of Bruce's team this season before his injury, so it's time for Bruce to show his hand and put his plan for him into effect. Come on the Villa boys, let's win this one!!

We have had an extra day since we last played compared to them which should be in our favour. I don’t really know anything about them but they have a manager who has usually adopted a physical approach so am expecting similar but  we now have players who can deal with that. I think the key is our two wide men, if they are both performing well it makes it difficult for any side to defend against.

Hope we start Jedinak as his height would be useful against Ipswich.

Hope we can get support around Davis, get Onomah closer to him.

4-5-1, with O'Hare in behind Davis, but ready to alternate that with Connor, to do to Ipswich what we did to Norwich and with doing that I would have the Jedi in, instead of Whelan.
3-0 Villa go me babbies.

You're not going to start O'Hare over Jack.

Onomah on the bench to come on for Davis so we still have physical presence and height. Jedi and Jack should lift us in midfield with Angela also pushing if needs be.
