If anyone thinks this forum can get a bit "Rita Hayworth" at times, it will be nothing compared to the "mass hysteria" if we don't get a result.

I don't think we will, but then I went to Barnsley with no hope either so you never know do you?

If we lose, I'd make the change, same as it was against Barnsley. He should have to get min 7 points before the international break otherwise he should go, if we lose this one it will then be an impossibility.

Even this early in the season, the next few games are massive. 7 or 9 points and we're right up there, on an 8 game unbeaten run and winning games. Confidence up for going into a tricky run and other sides will be worrying about us. 4 or less and we'll probably be in the bottom 6 with a new manager and starting again.

If we get off to the fast start then I think we will get something because the crowd will get behind us and I don't think Forest are that fantastic.  But if we give them breathing space early they will settle into their passing game and give us issues.  Forest to win 1-2. Kodja for us.

I was confident we'd beat Brentford so I'll just wait and see

I presume we'll play the same lineup as Barnsley - we have to really

442 does mean we might cede a bit of possession - you're trading that for extra goal threat when you do have the ball.  I can see the crowd getting frustrated

2-1 win.

It was daylight robbery Forest getting a draw here last year (game imo that did for RDM not to hold on to the comeback win).

They've started the season well and have some good players but think we'll do just enough in our own unique style.

Snodgrass, Adomah, Davis and Kodjia should have too much for these. They're pretty shamobilic at set pieces too so hopefully Davis to bag another.

Yep, especially as none of them featured on Tuesday night.  The one issue that concerns me with us playing 4-4-2 is the prospect of getting overrun in midfield, especially with Whelan in there.  If that begins to happen then I suppose Onomah could always come on and we could go to a 4-3-3 should that be the case.
Title: Re: Aston Villa v Nottingham Forest Pre-Match Thread
Post by: garyshawsknee on September 21, 2017, 10:56:23 AM
Also we let Barnsley come onto us which gave the front three more space.  If Forest sit back and let us dictate the pace, it could be a real bore-fest, so no change there then I guess.

Post by: Matt Collins on September 21, 2017, 11:26:09 AM
You could switch it so that Snodgrass or Adomah plays centrally in more of a 4231

I think it can work, but we either need to play counter attacking football or be so in your face that the pace of the game is more important than the numbers in central midfield. But whether Whelan and Hourihane can do that is obviously questionable

All this stuff you guys are suggesting is too complicated for our Manager. Saturday evening is going to be the normal tedious stuff and if any  form of chaos breaks out we will win or even lose however that is unlikely.

True, but I guess it depends on their shape and where that extra midfielder is.  If like they have a defensive midfielder like Brentford did, then you could make the change you mention,(although one of the strikers could drop a bit and mark him).  If the extra man is more advanced, then you might need to change and add a holding player to look after him.

I guess it comes down primarily to scouting other sides and then being flexible enough able to make changes throughout a game.

Lansbury & Jedinak out - Hogan training & Gabby back for Tuesday.

Glad Lansbury is out, 2 reasons - he hasn't yet shown anything of any note in a Villa shirt and against Forest he'd be so hyped up by the stick he'd get you'd fancy a red card would be nailed on

I agree. I once had fairly high hopes for Bjarnasson but not any more. He looks totally out of place in English football. His "defending" football Boro's second goal the other night was straight out of school boy football.

Doyle - Hayes does look useful and keeps the ball well but for me he's one for the future. He doesn't look up to the thud and blunder of championship football just yet. I'd stick with Whelan for now he's the snappy little dog in the middle that we need right now.

We will do these. 3-1 Villa, Kodjia hat trick to get him off the mark for the season.

I'm still smarting from my first ever game - April 1978 Us 0 Them 1 with a penalty that never was.  So let's fuck these fuckers 5-0

My first game was a couple of weeks before. Villa v West Ham we won 4-1 and I was hooked. Bastards.

My first game was 1979. Us 0 Manure 3.

Are you me? That was my first game as well.

Kodjia to score a brace in a 3-1 win for Villa. I’m pretty confident about this one, we have such a great chance to stamp or mark on the division this week, and it now seems that we can relax because it will be executed in expansive style too, so maybe we were all being a little hysterical 😊.

That or it will all go tits up this week and he’ll get the sack.

Next weekend we'll either be in around the play off spots or looking for a new manager

Any chance we could chill out on the incessant negativity and moaning in the meantime?

A big win for us, 3 or 4 and another clean sheet.

There are 2 chances
Slim and none
Slim just left on a horse with no name
It felt good  to.be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
And there ain't no one for you to give you no shame

A triple negative there.

4-1.

Incredibly negative comments. I genuinely feel we have turned a corner. We now have several players who can score tomorrow. Our defence was top notch last week and there is unity in the squad. 3-0 Davis, Snodgrass brace ....

Funnily enough I dreamt the other night we got proper stuffed, 8-0 and I woke up with dread about going to work before realising it was only a dream.

I wonder who's dream is more likely? Yours I bloody well hope!

Well I have no idea about the likely result- haven’t seen us play this season as we can’t get the championship in aus any more. I’m guessing a draw.bruce has heaped the pressure on the players though after the cup exit. If we lose and fail to win the following game, his job will be hanging by a very thin thread.

Wins are what will buy you time Steve.

A thumping 5-0 win. Goals for Kodjia x2, Chester, Elmo and Terry. But then I've taken a little extra medication to get me through my night shift.

What do you take? I could do with some for my upcoming night shifts.  ;)

I can't imagine Villa ever scoring five goals in a season, sorry match, ever again.

Zappin, it's great. Now I'm not medicated up, just slightly hungover my prediction has changed. 6-0, throw an own goal in as well.

Sometimes you get these feelings and when you rule out needing the toilet you back your hunch.

I'm really looking forward to the game. Tuesday and all its meh has not dampened any enthusiasm. We are at a pivotal moment.

We will look back at today as our anti-Leicester moment. Battering these funny sounding East Midlands bumpkins will be the game we realise Barnsley wasn't a blip and the Dreadnaught that is Aston Villa gathers unstoppable momentum.

Or maybe I did just need a wizz.

I don't know too much about Forest this season although somebody else earlier in this thread said they'd made a good start but they're only 2 points ahead of us and they've lost 4 already. This is the type of game we need to be winning if we want to be up there. I'll go 2-1, Kodjia and Adomah with another penalty.

We had a very good home record against a very good Forest side around that time (not so much at their place). I remember being at the game and could have told you our scorers but I wouldn't have remembered their scorer. I wonder whatever became of him.

They're defensively poor and particularly weak at the seat piece.

Aston Villa's brave John Terry to score.

Three hour train journey from Aberystwyth - please win.

That brings back memories of studying there between 2000-2003.

If I remember correctly, the 9:30am train and plenty of Stella. Great days. Unless it rained and we had to get on a replacement bus from Borth or Dovey Junction. Still, there were some great days in 2001, particularly the 3-2 win that sent Coventry down, and beating Bolton 3-2 also to go top of the league in October.

Oh, and £5 tickets with an NUS card for the Holte.

Hope they win for you mate

That sounds pretty good to me, mate.

I loved living in Aberystwyth, especially between May to September. My mum and dad loved coming to visit, too. Haven't been back for over 10 years now due to living abroad, but will take my wife there one day. I'm sure alot has changed, but I'm hoping Andy's Records is still there!
