#Boro XI: Dimi, Roberts, Ayala, Gibson, Friend, Howson, Forshaw, Tavernier, Wing, Bamford, Fletcher
-
Fairly impressive reserve team on paper.
-
Micah Richards!
Blimey
-
Woyld've prefered Bree to get game time over Hutton but glad to see O'Hare and Doyle-Hayes in there.
-
Micah Richards!
Blimey
That wasn't the word that came out of my mouth when I saw his bloody name.
-
Slipknot on the bench
-
I'd have liked to have seen Bree play. It'd be nice if we could get some winning momentum going.
-
Micah Richards!
Blimey
That wasn't the word that came out of my mouth when I saw his bloody name.
They must be prepared to take the hit on any fee due in Jan because he's cuptied?

Teams left in the cup in January won't be after the likes of that waste of space.
-
With a carefully bit of bleeping, I think that Villa could run out to 'Vatican Broadside'
-
Lot of changes as expected. Looking forward to seeing how O'Hare and Doyle-Hayes do and interested to see if De Laet is an option at LB.
-
Boro fans seem a bit upset with us. Poor little souls, what have we done to them?
who's the dirtiest, hardest and strongest tackler we have in the reserves. Some kind of undiscovered new Souness. Let him play and give him free rein. Show Villa what a bad tackle really looks like.
-
Probably the best part of 100K a week for Richards and Fat Ross to sit on the bench for cup games.
-
I'd have liked to see Kodjia get another half hour under his belt. I'm all for consistency too in terms of keeping the same team and telling anyone not playing that they have to earn the right to play. Just me though. Not sure what Richards has done to even warrant a place on the bench.
-
Samba and Elphick must be up there with our worst ever centre back partnerships.

Stroppy little monkeys. I don't know what caused that outburst. I would have played Kodjia, Adomah and Snodgrass.
-
Samba and Elphick must be up there with our worst ever centre back partnerships.
On what basis?
-
Samba and Elphick must be up there with our worst ever centre back partnerships.
On what basis?
Probably that it's pretty hard to think of many CB pairings we've had that are worse.
-
Elliott and Keown that's all really.
-
Oh and lescott and Richards
-
Samba and Elphick must be up there with our worst ever centre back partnerships.

Probably that it's pretty hard to think of many CB pairings we've had that are worse.
It's not as if they've played together and been a disaster.
-
Bought my ticket online and chose the 'add to season card' option. Card wasn't activated. Had to ask TO to print ticket. They said this option shouldn't have been offered and had blocked sending me a paper ticket. Just when I was starting to think that the TO had got their act together
-
Where is Gabby? 🤔
-
Where is Gabby? 🤔
Just thought the same.... quite like look and balance of starting 11
-
I would have thought there would have been value in giving Kod some minutes.
-
Radio stream anyone? Thanks.

That they rarely get a game doesn't stop it looking like a poor CB pairing. So far we've managed 2 CB pairings going back 30 years that are as bad or worse which kind of proves the point of the original post.
-
Just got to my seat in the Holte and the crowd looks very sparse.
-
I would have thought there would have been value in giving Kod some minutes.
after what their fans said re dirtiest tackler etc I would have been worried for his safety.....a juicy tackle could put our main man out for a big part of the season and enhance their position.
They wouldn't do that sort of thing......would they?

Those two plus Herd in a back three under Lambert gives me shudders thinking about it.
-
Are they stropping over Adama being sent off? It was hardly our fault the smog munching gimps.

I can see Paul's point. Kodjia said himself he's not 100% but yeah, maybe best to leave him out what with us having two games in a few days next week.

Any chance of one that's in English?
-
Will this be our lowest attendance in my lifetime? Hardly looks anyone there!

Brill.

Depends how old you are. Plenty of sub 20K in the 90s, and sub 15K in the 80s.
-
Lescott and Richards?
BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Repition
Oh and lescott and Richards
-
I have man-flu. Poorly-bad.
-
Radio stream anyone? Thanks.

Is that on short wave or long wave?

Judging by the footage there's so few in the Upper Witton it looks closed.

My Guess The Crowd sounds optimistic, then.
How are we doing?
-
How come Radio Tees have it, but WM can't broadcast their commentary on the internet?

Wondered that myself?
-
Elphick offside goal
-
Goalllllllllll! !!!!!
-
Elphick was never offside. Perfectly good goal ruled out. ;)

Someone was streaming from the ground but it only lasted a few mins.
-
Booooooooooooooooooooo!
-
How come Radio Tees have it, but WM can't broadcast their commentary on the internet?
Wondered that myself?
Maybe because we're at home?
-
Yessss!
Noooooo
Darn it
-
Tees commentators suggesting about 14k crowd.
-
Shouldn't have made it £15 then, robbing twats.
-
West Ham will be an interesting attendance.
-
Elphick booked.
-
Villa corner
-
Brief footage again and North Stand is nearly empty, upper and lower apart from R2. Unless there's a load in the Holte and Trinity it's def under 15K.
-
We've got 2 corners
-
Another corner, we seem to be coming into it more.
-
Throow in throw in
It's Gooluss
Awae
Poower
-
3 corners
Boro under attack
-
Somebody needs to avoid Gibson. He keeps being mentioned on the commentary.
-
Bamford hits the bar
-
West Ham will be an interesting attendance.
When are we playing West Ham?
-
Perm two from Glover, Foster and Ormsby, there you have the worst CB pairing in Villa history
-
Bamford hits the bar
That's not a smart thing to do in the middle of a match.
-
Commentators having a go
-
West Ham will be an interesting attendance.
When are we playing West Ham?
Either in the final or, more likely, next season.
-
'Villa, four pints behind the Boro...'
-
Avoid Tavernier and Wing as well.
-
'Villa, four pints behind the Boro...'
Tonight we need to just one goal ahead they can keep 4 points lead till the weekend.
-

The goal is the thing of course!
And he did say 'pints'
-
Perm two from Glover, Foster and Ormsby, there you have the worst CB pairing in Villa history
This sent a shiver down my spine.
-
Sounds like Boro getting on top; O'Hare our brightest spark
They've picked a stronger line up than us I think, especially the spine
-
Hey everyone. How we playing?
-
Avoid Tavernier and Wing as well.
Reckon Bruce has been going with the latter suggestion for a while now.
-
Hey everyone. How we playing?
meh!
-
Hey everyone. How we playing?
Radio commentary says we are on top. Oh hang on.....
-
'Tommy elphick, slowing things down.
And it'll get even slower when it gets to Samba.'
Great, they're getting frustrated.
That's clearly our game plan.
And now, Lansbury off for McCormack
-
Lansbury off Fat Ross on.
-
Hey everyone. How we playing?
Radio commentary says we are on top. Oh hang on.....
meh!
Thanks both! Listening now. Sounds a bit slow :)
-
Steve Bruce face looking puce.....
-
hope Mcormack can do something, I think he could be a good player if he sorted himself out
-
Sounds like Boro getting on top; O'Hare our brightest spark
They've picked a stronger line up than us I think, especially the spine
We should have signed Spine during the summer.
-
I presume Lansbury is injured?
-
Some discussion on radio Tees about SB balancing things up, tactically.
And the gates thing.
-
Onomah so close
-
'Villa, four pints behind the Boro...'

Aha I thought it was a predictive text strike🙂
-
RedSox just sent me this as I asked how many were in The Holte.
(http://thumb.ibb.co/j9dLzQ/01c.jpg) (http://ibb.co/j9dLzQ)
-
Aftab is that the Scot Spine we should have signed?
-
I presume Lansbury is injured?
No he just doesn't like playing full 90 mins against Boro.

I'd have thought that as well.
But wouldn't steer you wrong, Aftab.
-
What a surprise "their centre halfs are their weak link".
Zero shots on target from us.
-
Aftab is that the Scot Spine we should have signed?
Yes that's him good lad stands tall Scotty does.
-

So is that's a library picture from our Next Gen champions league match a few years ago?
-
Been tearing up trees for Brechin City I hear.
-
But wouldn't steer you wrong, Aftab.
See Louise this is a warm friendly place. I like being here.
-
Walsall losing at home to Olbiyun U21s in whatever the Sherpa Van is called these days.
-
What a surprise "their centre halfs are their weak link".
Zero shots on target from us.
Not been terrible though and at least we are playing with a bit of energy. Had a few good 'situations' (as Andy Townsend might say) but it just hasn't fallen for us. Having Hutton and Bjarnason together on the left on their weaker side hasn't helped on the creative front!
-
But wouldn't steer you wrong, Aftab.
See Louise this is a warm friendly place. I like being here.
So do I.
Let's hope the Villa boys do, as well:)
-
Barnsley were 25/1 to beat Spurs before ko. Should have taken it.
-
Is Gabby injured? Surprising he didnt make the bench.
-
Barnsley were 25/1 to beat Spurs before ko. Should have taken it.
That could be an interesting attendance too, lowest ever at Wembley?
-
Tees radio have just announced Gibson off, fry on.
Cue sandwich jokes.
They think Boro will do a lot more little touches.
-
Barnsley were 25/1 to beat Spurs before ko. Should have taken it.

Things like FA Vase will be lower i'd imagine.
-

Hopefully one of them will be picking the ball out of their own net :)

Somebody has avoided Branford with a vengeance.

Hopefully!

1989 England v Chile 15,628
-
Alan Hutton seems to be working hard
-
SB is looking at his subs.
-
"like watching bloody paint dry" :) lol
-

Barnsley are 28/1 to win in play
-
It's not really exciting, is it?
Come on.
'There's nothing to look at, Neil!'
-
These Tees commentators really are a throwback to Smashy and Nicey, with a few sarky comments about the almost-empty VP.
-
Sounds like a belter.
-
The chap who regularly boos with gusto behind the commentary postion for the club site has just exclaimed "its like watching paint dry!"
-
Alan Hutton seems to be working hard
Something that needs to be carved into his head stone. Followed by "even though the winger ran by him"
-
Elphick red card.
Boro penalty.
-
Elphick red card.
Boro penalty.
Fucking marvelous*
*stated in high pitched hysterical voice
-
I think that is the end of Elphick's Villa career.
-
Thanks for popping in Tommy.
-
Elphick off, penalty
-
Penalty for them...Elphick off !
-
Elphick tw@t
-
C'mon Jed, earn your spurs
-
So, back to that "worst ever centre back pairing" conversation...
Richards to come on and save the day?
-
Just fcuk off and Headbutt a post you fcukin liability.
-
Nice one, Mad Tommy
-
Whoulda thought Elphick and Samba would be a disaster.
-
Up against it.
Come on Villa!
-
The bombscare strikes again.
Fuckin' useless.
-
Well done Tommy, here ends our unbeaten streak.
-
As soon as I saw his name on the team sheet I knew he would cost us and he has.
-
Is kicking the post a red card?
-
Second yellow
Be very surprised if we get back into this now
Not that disappointed but always a shame
Don't imagine anyone has played their way into the first team here
Bit worried about our defensive cover
-
Just when things are looking a bit better up pops Elphick. Oh dear.
-
Whoulda thought Elphick and Samba would be a disaster.
Indeed.
-
ah well we have Richards in reserve....
-
Masturbation time for the Smoggy commentators ...
-
The contempt shown by managers in this competition is ridiculous.
-
Terrifying that we're one injury away from Elphick or Samba starting.
-
Hutton to CB and Bjork to fullback, which is better than Ricards making an appearance.
-
Lyden on for Fat Ross?
Has he had a touch?
Hogan!
Well that will do wonders for his confidence
-
Elphick did well there
-
Bet Bob Mortimer is gleeful. He blocked me on Twitter. The Boro Bastard
-
Steve Bruce has nothing to lose......
....well. apart from his job.
-
Terrifying that we're one injury away from Elphick or Samba starting.
or Jedinak, or De Laet .... or anyone other than Elphick or Richards.
-
Terrifying that we're one injury away from Elphick or Samba starting.
Indeed. And surely there's no way Terry can play all season
Hopefully we can strengthen in Jan. Doesn't need to be an expensive purchase
I'd have Jedinak in there ahead of either of them I think
-
Hutton to CB and Bjork to fullback, which is better than Ricards making an appearance.
The match being abandoned because of an incoming North Korean nuclear missile is better than Richards making an appearance.
-
Why withdraw a striker?!
I like that Lyden is coming on but for a striker?
-
I've always thought Hutton would make a fairly decent centre back.
-
Hogan limping off. FFS!
-
Boooooooooooo
-
What a day this is proving to be.
-
Makes the decision to sell Baker seem even more idiotic.
-
Terrifying that we're one injury away from Elphick or Samba starting.
or Jedinak, or De Laet .... or anyone other than Elphick or Richards.
Yes we have an embarrassment of riches in the so called 'best squad in the division.'
-
Id imagine we'll lose this by 2 or 3 now
-
I've always thought Hutton would make a fairly decent centre back.
He might have to start marking players and not just running at full speed with the ball into an opponent
-
I get we're down to 10 men but, with 25 minutes to go, why take of a striker for a midfield in a one-off game that you're losing?
-
Tees commentators going mad.
'Giving them a chance to get back in'
-
El Prick playing at his usual standard?
-
Makes the decision to sell Baker seem even more idiotic.
Indeed, although I suspect the call came from Baker himself rather than the club necessarily wanting to sell him.
-
I get we're down to 10 men but, with 25 minutes to go, why take of a striker for a midfield in a one-off game that you're losing?
He limped off didn't he?
Does sound like we're actually creating chances
-
Id imagine we'll lose this by 2 or 3 now
Or 3 or 4
-
I've always thought Hutton would make a fairly decent centre back.
He might have to start marking players and not just running at full speed with the ball into an opponent
Less chance for him to try and cross the ball from CB position.
-
Game over.
-
2-0 goodnight Villa
-
Bamford.
Didn't avoid him enough.
Two down
B******s
-
Samba upfront yet?
-
"thank you and goodnight, Aston Villa."
(C) Teesside masturbator-commentators.
-
Bamford hadn't scored in 2 and a half years apparently
-
Game over
Onto the next one
Not too fussed about result but this game has really rammed home how vulnerable we are to injuries in defence
-
I've just seen that goal how utterly pathetic was that attempt to jump by Bjarnasson.
-
You just know who is going to score to put the icing on this cake of shit now.
-
Fucking boooo. I get it's the League Cup but tonight was an opportunity to build some momentum, but no we have completely surrendered.
-
Still 0 shots on target, gotta love that Steve Brice style of football ;)
-
Who? Billy Ashcroft?
-
This team isn't The League team. I hope.
-
Still 0 shots on target, gotta love that Steve Brice style of football ;)
Indeed.
-
Barney being utter gash? Well I never....
-
I've just seen that goal how utterly pathetic was that attempt to jump by Bjarnasson.
another good signing by Bruce
-
Normal service resumed.
-
This team isn't The League team. I hope.
I think that's probably fair to say
-
We can concentrate on the league now.....
-
Bamford hadn't scored in 2 and a half years apparently
He scored 1 last season.
-
Still 0 shots on target, gotta love that Steve Brice style of football ;)
Elphick had the ball in the net, but I'm with you completely. Bruce Out.
-
Fucking boooo. I get it's the League Cup but tonight was an opportunity to build some momentum, but no we have completely surrendered.
Still time.
Likely? Well
-
Still 0 shots on target, gotta love that Steve Brice style of football ;)
I wish we had him instead of that Bruce bloke.
-
The love we of momentum is a huge stupid. Pick the same team if it wins. Show some fucking respect for the fans. I'm beginning to hate football.
-
Anyone remember Stoke at home?
-
Still 0 shots on target, gotta love that Steve Brice style of football ;)
The football is shit but the style of play is great! 👍
-
Barnsley were 25/1 to beat Spurs before ko. Should have taken it.
That could be an interesting attendance too, lowest ever at Wembley?
Leyton Orient played two home games there, Ealing played eight. So, I doubt it very much.
-
Game over
Onto the next one
Not too fussed about result but this game has really rammed home how vulnerable we are to injuries in defence
I am fussed about the result and this is due to poor team selection tonight.

New Wembley, clutching at straws ;)

I'm fussed by completely surrendering. If you make a couple of changes it makes sense, changing the entire team is idiotic.
-
I'm convinced Bjarnsson is just Bjork in a blond wig, either that or just some random icelander who has never played football before.
-
Game over

How does this help the morale of the squad?
I like the Cup.
-
I listen to all the local BBC cricket commentators and they are all provide decent honest and non partisan commentaries.
So why do local BBC football commentators come across as a bunch of c×××s?
-
11,197
Attendance?
-
11197 attendance.
-
We've had worse opposition than Boro before in earlier rounds. Is that attendance right, and if so when was the last time we had lower? I don't pay too much attention to them but am thinking Simod cup
-
He was praised for giving the kids and fringe players a run in the last round. Now we lose it's a stupid selection policy.
I said before the last game, I'm happy to give the kids a go but I'd like to have our stars available on the bench for if we need to change it. Even if we hadn't had a man sent off, it always looked like we would struggle if we went one behind. Boro, by contrast, have Downing and Assombalonga to being on.
-
Referee Steve Martin.What a jerk.
-

11197 attendance.
No-one guessed below 16,000 in GTC.
-
I listen to all the local BBC cricket commentators and they are all provide decent honest and non partisan commentaries.
So why do local BBC football commentators come across as a bunch of c×××s?
Because football as a sport is indecent, dishonest and partisan, and it accordingly gets the commentators it deserves?
-
Slipknot time
-
Any statos, when did we last have a crowd that low?
-
11,197
Attendance?
starling murmuration, it was spectacular.

I think it's fair to say that we were not up for t'cup.

Love it but totally pissed off with Villa tonight!

This. It's a cup you can sneak up and win. Bruce out.

11,197
Attendance?
starling murmuration, it was spectacular.
Love it but totally pissed off with Villa tonight!
Pedant alert, but Starling murmurations would be counted in hundreds, so it would be either 11,100 or 11,2000. Just saying.
-
Tees commentators are bitter and sad.
'Villa Park, deserted, fans going home, empty,' etc
Your boys weren't exactly a draw, were they?
-
By my reckoning, last time we had a crowd this low was v Forest in the ZDS in Nov 1991. 7,859. We had 12,433 in the LC 2nd round v Wigan in 1993.
-
Slipknot time
Slipknot?
Elphick=Shit?
-
By my reckoning, last time we had a crowd this low was v Forest in the ZDS in Nov 1991. 7,859. We had 12,433 in the LC 2nd round v Wigan in 1993.
That's what this quality of football will do.
-
Barnsley as expected was a fucking mirage. Our reserves vs theirs. We shit the bed at home.
-
Corey Taylor is lead singer for Slipknot.

God I think I remember that game 😐
-
Doug Ellis would sack a manager for a gate of less than 12,000 regardless of the result of the game.
-
We got 15,000 for the friendly against Boro last year.
-
Wolves and Bristol City out-attendancing us.Wake up call.
-
Barnsley as expected was a fucking mirage. Our reserves vs theirs. We shit the bed at home.
See they more sensibly retained the spine of the side rather than changing all the players.
-
The Hall of Memories.

We had a couple of dozen of them under him.

Managers
-
That is a fcukin shocking attendance.
-
He was praised for giving the kids and fringe players a run in the last round. Now we lose it's a stupid selection policy?
In the last round we played a lower division team. Team selected tonight was much weaker against a good team at our level.
-
Barnsley as expected was a fucking mirage. Our reserves vs theirs. We shit the bed at home.
It may have been a mirage
But surely tonight isn't the proof of that!
-
I never trusted the attendance figures under Doug.
-

No memory of last week.
No help to SB and I wanted it. Out of the Cup.
I really hope he has something special ready for the weekend v Forest.

I never trusted the attendance figures under Doug.
You only had to be in the ground to know there were less than 10K. 4600 looks like 4600.

We should never have moved from Wednesdays.

Agree PWS, I was hinting at the legend that cannot be repeated, at least not in HDE's lifetime.
-
Lets not go all blues like and start making up reasons for the gate being shit.
I've heard some great ones over the years from the rags
-
By my reckoning, last time we had a crowd this low was v Forest in the ZDS in Nov 1991. 7,859. We had 12,433 in the LC 2nd round v Wigan in 1993.
God I think I remember that game 😐
Was that Forest game really, really, really cold??
-
I reckon I was at both of them. Couldn't be arsed tonight though, so I can't say "I was there when we lost to Middlesbrough in front of 11,000" when some glory-hunting part-timer is begging me to get him a ticket to Villa v Barcelona in a few years' time.
-
I was there tonight one of the unfortunate 11,000 souls to have witnessed the most lethargic, clueless performances in living memory at the once proud old stadium. Thanks for that Steve Bruce. I'll refrain from calling you a footballing dinosaur so as not to hurt your feelings and antagonise your son.

I'm a bit disappointed not to get at least one HMHB response
