Aston Villa vs Brentford
Championship
Saturday 9 September, 15:00
Villa Park, Birmingham
-
3-1 to the Villa. Bruce knows what needs to be done, he's been there before, he's got the players. Vultures get stuffed!
-
4-1 to Villa, Davis to get a well deserved goal, two up front and playing the Villa way, Snodgrass to have a stormer of a debut reminiscent of Monsieur D. Six.
-
2-0, no slip ups, nice home win, nothing to see, move along now please :)
-
I am going to ignore what's happened so far and regard this match as relaunch and start of our success under Bruce the Great. Come on Villa. 3-0
-

You mean Bees get stuffed of course?
-
2-1 nervy last 10 minutes
-
2-0 For me.

You can't stuff bees. Believe me, I've tried.
-
Any type of win will do
-
Should be a good time to play them, with them having lost Jota and Dean. That said, we all know about the Championship form-book, so take nothing for granted.
I'd like to see us go largely with the team that beat Norwich, which would mean starting with Lansbury (who seems to be decent at home but dreadful away) and leaving Onomah on the bench to start with.
There are a number of 'winnable' games this month, so it's crucial game to create some momentum.
-
Engine 3 - Bees 0

I think that would be a big mistake, we need legs in the middle against them, Onomah would be the first name on the team sheet for me for this one.
-
Engine
The V6 from B6
-
Here's hoping the engine doesn't get a bee in its bonnet.
-
I'd be tempted to give Hogan a game against his former club but other than that, that would possibly be my only change from what started against Norwich.
-
My first Villa home game in almost 4 years. 2-0 to us. Hogan to score
-
An exciting 2-2
-
Here's hoping the engine doesn't get a bee in its bonnet.
Haha. Very good.

Carry on!

2-0

Engine
The V6 from B6
Hopefully new engine - with no old bangers (Gabby etc)
-
As Trump would say if he were a Villa fan.."we're gonna win, we're gonna win big".
He isn't of course, but the outcome will be those very words.
-
Positive mindset to this one please Mr. Bruce, with a high tempo approach both in defence and attack. I would go with (if fit):
Johnstone
Bree Chester Terry Taylor
Whelan
Elmohamady Onomah Hourihane Green
Davis
Subs: Steer, De Laet, Samba, Lansbury, Bjarnason, Snodgrass, Hogan
-
My second game of the season and hopefully another win. 3-1.

Bjarnason and Hogan need to start for me. 2-1 Villa.
-
Am I allowed to say 'it's a must win game!'?.
I'll get me coat....
-
Johnstone
Bree Chester Terry Taylor
Whelan
Snodrass Onomah Hourihane Green
Davis
-
a game that quite simply, we must win.
If we have any expectations of going up this season, these should be meat and drink games for us where we pick up maximum points as a matter of course.
-
Johnstone
Bree Chester Terry Taylor
Whelan
Snodrass Onomah Hourihane Green
Davis
I like the balance of this side, but I'm pretty sure Snoddy said he left Spam because Bilic played him out of position on the right?..
He prefers to cut in from the left or play in the hole.
Anyhow, 3-0 Villa onward & upward.
-
Don't be shit and win. That's all I ask for.
-
Don't be shit and win. That's all I ask for.
I think we will do both. By that I mean be shit and win.
-
Johnstone
Bree Chester Terry Taylor
Whelan
Snodrass Onomah Hourihane Green
Davis

Wrong way round, he wants to play on the right and they were playing him on the left so the team above is the right setup for him. It's the best 11 we have available right now.
-
I'm absent on Saturday...I was away for Norwich & Wigan so the one certainty is we'll score 4.
-
Need to win.
-

However it looks like I'll be making my home attendance debut this season, so we'll also concede 4. 4-4 then.
-
Johnstone
Bree Chester Terry Taylor
Whelan
Snodrass Onomah Hourihane Green
Davis
This is exactly what I want to see. Maybe De Laet instead of Bree but pretty much spot on
-
Get rid of Whelan and play Hogan up top with Davis. Attack attack attack.
-
3-2. Davis to get his first.
-
he's bound to play Elmohamedy <typo> at right full back if Snodgrass plays right mid.
-
Need to win. Will win.
3-2. Brentford aren't as bad as their league position indicates but they have lost three of their regular players to SHA. Can see it being similar to the Norwich game.
Vital we take three points into the Boro match.
-
2-1 win but a closer game than we'd like.
-
Johnstone
Bree Chester Terry Taylor
Whelan
Snodrass Onomah Hourihane Green
Davis
Only reason I didn't put Snodgrass in from the start is that I'm not sure how much he has played this season so far, if at all. I would hope to see the above team going forward though, with Kodjia coming in on the left when he returns.
-
1-1. Typical Villa, can't beat a team who have sold every valuable asset they have.
-
Get rid of Whelan and play Hogan up top with Davis. Attack attack attack.
Would like to see that happening in the final third of games (especially at home) if we are totally on top or are chasing it.
-
When I grow up I want to start one of these threads.
2-1 nervy Villa win
-
3- 0
Hourinhane, Terry, Green
-
Got to win these games if we want to be near the top end of the table. 2-0 win
-
6-1
-
6-1
And on the basis it's 200-1 I'm going to stick a £1 on it.
-
Home win. We will score 3.
-
We really need a win if we want to have any automatic promotion aspirations. I'll go for a typical meh and nervey Bruce performance but it will be 3 points, 2-1.
-
A 4-1 Victory with a diamond formation .
Johnstone
De Laet Terry Chester Taylor
Hourihane
Elmo Green
Snoddy
Davis & Hogan
Subs Adomah Lansbury Bree Whelan Onomah Samba Steer.
Agbonlahor and Hutton be lucky to make bench !
Still with jedinak and kodija to come quite a squad
-
My first Villa home game in almost 4 years. 2-0 to us. Hogan to score
Have a good time and enjoy ! Hopefully 3 points and much fun for you at match

If you come to The Bartons we don't do upstairs any more. Pre match we are just to the right of the door. Post match is at a table with bench seats by the front.

Cheers Chelts. If I don't make it before will make it after. And certainly before and after the Boro game.

If we don't win this we could be bottom 3 by the end of the weekend.

Cheer up. Herbert could still be Chairman.....

Aston Villa 3 Brentford 1
-
A win with an attacking and bold tactical selection.
I just hope its us.
-
1-1

Forgive the stupid question but I'm over in Italy at the moment and whenever I check of the time of kick off on Saturday, it tells me 4 pm..
It's probably that my iPad is changing everything to Central European time but it is 3 pm isn't it?
-
It's 2pm
5-0 villa
Seriously
-
Nothing but a win from this 4pm kick off. 😜
-
2-0 Win. Goal in each half from Hogan.
-
I hate these late 5pm kick-offs, but I'll be happy with a comfortable win.
-
What's the formation if Hogan starts? 4-3-1-2? I assume Snodgrass is fit and he's obviously going to start.
So we have a million wingers in our squad and suddenly switch to a wingless formation.
It's such an obvious Steve Bruce thing to do!
-
4-1

isn't it 3 ?

So, it's 4pm BST, then?
-
Johnstone
De Laet Terry Chester Taylor
Whelan Hourihane
Elmo Onomah Green
Davis
3-0 Villa. Snodgrass to come on for Elmo 2nd half.
-

Bree at RB, with Hourihane pushed on a bit in midfield and I'd go with that.
-
Lose Brentford.
Or we'll nick your manager

Easy but I was a day late.
-
Bruce to play 6 at the back with 3 right backs and no left back plus two holding midfielders and us to grind out a thrilling 1-0 win with Whelan scoring a last minute overhead kick...
-
If we don't win this we could be bottom 3 by the end of the weekend.
Cheer up. Herbert could still be Chairman.....
Nice try at cheering me up.
It's only made me feel worse though. Knowing that, if Herbert was here, Bruce wouldn't be. 😉
3-1 to us!
-
I'm on holiday. Please win.
-
Despite our squad starting to look like an embarrassment of riches on paper for this level, I'm going to go for a 1-1.
Johnstone, Bree, Taylor, Chester, Terry, Whelan, Hourahane, Snodgrass, Green, Davis, Hogan
-
1-0
and i'll be more than delighted
-
Agbonlahor and Hutton be lucky to make bench !
Some 4x2's and a couple of short planks!

That's good hah.
-
No excuse not to win this one comfortably.
At home to a team in 23rd, who lost 3 key players to the dog shit.
3-0
-
Kool FM 2-2 Kurupt FM
Chabuddy G with a late equaliser for the Brentford Boys

Chabuddy G with a late equaliser for the Brentford Boys
. Maybe we'll see Chabuddy at the game tomorrow!
-
3-0 home win.
-
This really is a must win in the context of Brentford position and if we are genuine about a promotion challenge.
-
So people the result is not in question the question is about how many we will score. What do you think 5?
-
If Bodger doesn't mess up the team selection and picks an attacking line up we should be able to really take advantage of their lack of squad strength.
5-1 Villa. A day when we finally take our chances.
-
We're going to win and win big.
-
Looks like Bruce has gone for a 4-5-1 with Davis the lone striker.
-
I've got that feeling too
Team is more or less what I'd have picked - though I'd have had Adomah in the squad and maybe in the team, and not gabby
Bit light on defensive cover but I guess Jedi or Elmo would need to fill
In
-
Our bench looks strong as well.
-
We're going to bumblebee them back to the stone age.
-
Will go 3-1 to the Villa! Hogan, Terry and Gaby to get ours.
