Why oh why start messing with the formation?  I could understand it if he'd done it to get two strikers in the side, but he hasn't even done that.  I can only guess that Green is going to be playing just off Davis?

I hope that doesn't turn into a 541, we need to play for the win and I'm not sure why you'd change from a system that's given 8 in 2.
Title: Re: Bristol City v Aston Villa - Match Thread
Post by: Toronto Villa on August 25, 2017, 07:13:42 PM
The formation matters less than our attitude. We have to play to win. We have keep the ball, move into open spaces and pass it, not lump it long. We have more than enough to win the game.

Elmo in at right back/wing back is a joke if we are under any pressure. The man can't defend but then Bruce would have known that having managed him at both Sunderland and Hull.

At the start we looked like a team with lots of players in roles they didn't know trying to link with players who weren't where they expected them to be.  It was exactly what you'd expect to see if the only practice of the formation was a few minutes at the end of games and 20 minutes in training.  That's why Bruce is a dinosaur and, whilst he's realised that they looked lost, he's left himself with a team that looks unbalanced, with Davis looking isolated and ineffective for it.

Play that formation without playing people out of position and it might be ok.

Watching from behind the goal allows me to see how badly Elmo is positioned when play goes down the left.

He needs to make runs to a more central area rather than hanging out wide

Because he is a clown, seems to have a real soft touch for three at the back

At least he changed it before they scored, last 15 mins we have dominated. Davis hasn't been as sharp today. Green and Onomoah taking too many wrong options but we look by far the most likely to go on and win the game, particularly if we decide to use one of our many right back options, at right back for the second half...

Davis holding up the ball and setting up Conor twice at the end there who finished poorly but there is something there.
He getting nothing to work with yet is protecting the ball an abnormally long time for teammates to start moving up and very unselfishly sets up Conor.
Green also shows glimpses of intent.

Noticed Gabby moving about near Bruce so now i'm worried they going to fuk up what fledgling promise we mustered up just before the break.
If Bruce dropping Davis for Gabby I will get a bit a upset....
