Would be amazing to get a well played comfortable victory with shoots of promise all around.

Honestly though it will be a tough old scrap, crap football, Cardiff will have more of the game and I think we will scrape a 1-1 draw and more arguments about where we are going.

A win would be great but I think a draw at best given our shockingly bad away form...saying that, Cardiff only managed to just about scrape a last minute winner against Burton last weekend so we might be able to get our first away win of the season if we can score early and don't sit back.

Would go down well!!  I can't really see too many changes from last Saturday and I think he will stick with 4-4-2 for the time being.  I also think the only definite change will be in central midfield with Bacuna obviously going out the side.  There are a few options with that - Onomah or Hourihane coming in alongside Whelan with Lansbury staying further forward or Lansbury dropping back into central midfield and someone coming in to play in the more advanced role. There are a few candidates for that - Onomah, Bjarnason or Adomah could play there or we could go with one of O'Hare, Davis or Hepburn-Murphy.  I like what I've seen of O'Hare so far and think he brings energy that we are lacking, so on the assumption that we will only make one change I wouldn't mind seeing a team of:

Johnstone, Hutton, Chester, Terry, Taylor, Elmohamady, Whelan, Lansbury, Agbonlahor, O'Hare, Hogan.

Bench is an interesting one as there are quite a few options now with De Laet and Adomah back.  Got to choose from:

Steer, Bree, De Laet, Samba, Hourihane, Bjarnason, Onomah, Green, Adomah, Davis, Hepburn-Murphy

You know what Ads, I've been wondering as well if Bruce will switch to a 4-5-1 for the trickier away games.  I can see it to be honest and think that if you change Hourihane and Adomah in the above side for Lansbury and Agbonlahor, then I think you might have it.

I'd have Green in for Adomah for a bit more balance, but that's looks like our strongest front six. I don't think we've had two central midfielders that can play as a two since Milner and Petrov, so three in the middle is an absolute must. It's the only way we'll control the match for long enough to hang on to a lead, which is ultimately how most of our matches go.

I can see this being another draw though. We'll certainly have a good idea of how many of our team are up for a long fight for promotion after this one.

I'd love to see Green given a consistent run in the side.

It's been reported that he might miss out tomorrow with a groin injury, which is a disappointment. I like his speed, skill and unpredictability.

It did cross my mind at times in the second half last week, when it appeared that Whelan was running in treacle.

Sort of has 0-0 written all over it.  Two well organised sides, early season game, probably be intense.  Just hope we don't go too negative and end up being penned back into our half for a lot of match.  Hope we nick something on the break, but another draw this early in the season from a tricky away fixture would be no bad thing.

I think we are setting a dangerous precedent if we take this approach. We then have Reading away who finished top 6 last season so could then say away from home that a draw would be another good result. Before you know if we have played 3 won 0 and only got 3 points on the board.

A game of two halves. First half we'll give them a lesson in how to keep possession of the football without actually doing anything constructive, a real master class in knocking it between the 4 defenders, goalkeeper and holding midfielder creating beautiful rectangular passing movements in our own half. Second half not so good, a combination of tiring ourselves out first half with this excessive ball retention and Cardiff realising at half time that we're actually fucking shite will mean a torrid time, Cardiff running us ragged and scoring twice in the first 20 mins followed by a period of saving themselves for their next game, knowing we're beaten. Ours will be then trudging about heads down, with a couple of inexplicable substitutions doing nothing to gee things up or improve the level of performance.
So... A 2-0 defeat.

We should probably play 4-4-2 and look to hit them on the break, tbh. It's probably the best we'll get out of a Bruce team and it can be effective - especially against a Warnock team who, at home, will be looking to make the play but won't have been given the tools to do so by their manager. 1-0 Villa, probably an o.g. or a set piece or Glenn Whelan repeating Dalian's goal against Wimbledon touch for touch.

From the Evening Mail.

Quote
Asked about Aston Villa ahead of Saturday's match, Warnock said: "They’re still one of those teams aren’t they? When I was a kid all those years ago, I used to love the colour of the shirts.

“It was always one of the top teams. There’s always been an aura about it, Villa."

Cardiff won this fixture last season, capitalising upon one of those shocking Villa away performances to clinch a 1-0 victory, but Warnock reckons the visitors are the favourites this weekend.

“If we lose to Villa it won’t be a shock," he added.

“If we win it might be but I think we’ll be like that against all the big teams, the sides that have come down, your Sheffield Wednesdays, Leeds, and all these clubs we’ll be underdogs going into all these.

“And that’s probably the best we can be really, that helps us in that determination. In every walk of life, people want to show what they can do. Our lads are no different.

I could see yesterday the lads are all really looking forward to it. It doesn't mean you're guaranteed anything – in this division there will be highs and lows, despondency and euphoria."

All calm on the eve of our win, SB will still be the messiah.

I'm at the other end of the continent and yet you still seem as big as ever.

Prize for letting everyone know how far away you are and your sycophants?

I will sing a song for you later at The match.

And 2-1 us. Unconvincing but it doesn't matter, the juggernaut is moving.

We've the talent, it just needs to click. We're slowly, very slowly, getting there.

2-0 Villa. Chester and Terry. It won't be pretty but 3 points right now is so and more important.

You and I brother, are in the same boat. My thoughts entirely, other  than I think Terry will nod one in for a 0-1 win :)

If Gabby and Bacuna start, I will be even more pissed off than when they started last week. All the signings he's made and these two idiots get a start is something that is beyond me.

Bacuna is on his way out but after he scored last week it is almost certain Gabby will keep his place.

Gabby is a cut above in this league and he seems to be knuckling down to the task so it's a yes from me.

Will the same threat go to those whom have referred to me as "Nobs" on several occasions?

All of which I ignored but they have gone conveniently unnoticed?

Probably not, as it's a fairly prominent part of your username, which (to my knowledge) nobody forced you to choose.

How would you prefer people to refer to you?

It's only a matter of time before 'Nobs' posts somewhere on the internet about how they've been 'banned' (when they haven't) and everybody is a sycophant or some such rubbish.

What's your favourite U2 album?

You are too intelligent to pretend that you're naive at the connotations of how they used my name, but hey I'm a big boy I will not complain again over the childish usage of my username.

The 5 is a spin on S for a recognisable Brum night life institution, so however people please themselves.

Back on track, heres to a Villa win today.

Gabby causes a lot of sides problems at this level, and I say that as someone who is really peed off with his behaviour and attitude of the last few years.

It's all about opinions. Gabby managed to play regularly in the best league in the world for over 10 years so that speaks volumes for his ability. He has frustrated the fuck out of us for years but he's still at the club and earning high wages so for me Brucie has done the right thing by bringing him back into the fold.

Its not ideal to have Gabby playing I'll agree but from what I've seen in the Watford and Hull games he's better than a lot of the other attacking options we have, and that is a sorry state of affairs in itself. The team we need to be aiming for is 4-4-2 Johnstone, Hutton (or Bree), Chester, Terry, Taylor, Elhommody, Whelan, Onomah, New LW, Hogan, Kodjia.
But in the absence of new LW and Kodjia today I would play Gabby LW and O Hare up front. If we get a new left winger in i'd then stick Gabby up front till Kodjia comes back.

Play a small, inexperienced kid out of position? No pressure then.
