At some stage today I shall go down to my treasure box, take out my match ticket, smile and remember my old man who never lived to see it.  He gave me the love of the Villa and for that I will be eternally grateful.

Happy Rotterdam Day all you forty plussers.

A day never to be forgotten. Too young to travel for this so watched it segregated bythe adults who were more nervous than we were,  my Dad and his pals they watched at home while me and the other kids/teenagers watched it around a friends house.

I can still remember running home after we'd won to watch them lift the trophy to find men hugging each orher, i recall that unnerved me a bit.

Can't think I ever had a better day as a Villa fan. I remember Rotterdam that day was warm and cloudless much like the UK today. It's depressing to think future generations of Villa fans are unlikely to see it repeated the way European football has evolved.

The greatest ever day being a villa fan only got back to Brum from Rotterdam a few hours before sir Dennis held the cup to the thousands in the square

We have Rotterdam Day, the tramps across the city have Stern John Day. If anything sums things up, it's that.

I walked to primary school in Leamington the following day, sporting the away shirt, scarf, flag and bronx hat (!) along with school trousers and shoes. Cars were beeping, people waving and the headteacher let me off the uniform issues.

It was pretty much 35 years ago about now that the goal went in. And 'Yes' I am watching the DVD.

Such a perfect day....

Just a perfect day
Watch the ball cannon off Withe's shin
The split second when it goes in
We go mad

Just a perfect day
Final whistle when the 90's up
Watch Mortimer lift the cup
It's such fun

Oh it's such a perfect day
I'm glad I watched it with you
Oh, such a perfect day
You just keep me cheering on
You just keep me cheering on

Was coaching a new team of U16' last night for the first time. I explained I was a Villa fan and asked if there were any in the team (We are in Dorset so it's usually a no) I just couldnt resist going on to say that 35 years ago to the day I was in Rotterdam to watch Villa lift the European Cup. They looked generally shocked that Villa had won the European Cup! It was a lovely sunny evening last night to play football, very similar to that night in Rotterdam.

You'll always have Ashley Young at Goodison. The one that romantically nourished Randy.

okay the crosser.  Des was a fine player for the player but definitely did not set  up the goal,  no matter what stories he may tell ha ha.

I met Des Bremner at the Eamonn Deacy memorial reception a couple of years back.  He is one of the nicest, seemingly genuine and humble men it has ever been my privilege to meet.

They say never meet your heroes but I'm glad I met those boys that night.

I thought we would do it again the following season to but coming up against the Italian national team (virtually) in the quarter final didn't help.
Just so glad I was there

Augmented by Platini and Boniek, and not too long before they became world champs.  Not an easy hurdle.

Wasn't it after the '82 world cup when they won?
I still think after the shock of conceding such a quick goal we played pretty well that night.

Agreed, and a cracking header by Sid to equalise. But over the 2 games they were far superior to us.

Gentile, the cleverest, dirtiest most cynical defender to ever grace a field.

I remember him absolutely clattering Morley in the home game. It worked, as he never went near him again.

Despite losing.  That match was pretty awesome. Remember walking up to VP and you could feel it.  The kick off roar was electric and then they scored inside the minute.  Sid's header was probably the loudest goal I've heard in the holte for me, only Dalian's since was louder.  The following season match against Barcelona was pretty good when Sir Shaw nipped in to square the tie.  Happy days.
