Good chance to give some of our youngsters a go. We don't really need to choose eleven players, more risk of one of them getting injured that way. I'd pick seven as practice for our annual attempt to win the Hong Kong 7's.
-
I also think we should play the kids, but with their boot laces tied together. Oh and a rush-goalie as well, as long as he's blindfolded. I think it'd be good experience for them.
-
Agreed. No point risking Kodj now and losing him for the whole of next season.I'd like to have a look at Cam that Legion keeps banging on about. Throw him in. Also, my son - 8 in August - is a left-winger who can beat a man for fun and is naturally left-footed. Needs to do a bit more learning granted but I think it mat be the making of him. I'd throw him in as well.
-
I think we should also give a run out to those two lads who ran onto the pitch yesterday after Gabby scored. The topless lad had a bit of pace about him. Call it a trial if you like.
-
I dont think we'll lose because of Blues, I think we'll lose anyway as they'll be desperate and we've been in auto pilot mode since Burton.
-
Ewood Park was my first ever away game in 1995.
This Saturday I'm taking my lad there for his first ever away game (he's 6), will be fun explaining to him why we're celebrating Blackburn goals.

I like the fact he attempted to RKO the Blues player, completely missed but he just got up and carried on, clearly has character this lad!

The tactic should be to punt the ball up the field for Hogan to win the aerial battle he did so effectively yesterday.
-
Lol.
-
I wouldn't play Hogan. It'll have to Libor.
-
The steward who dropped the pitch invader. Showed a good engine to get back to him, cracking sliding tackle, I see him as a good up and down full back.
-
My mother in law in goal..."Safehands Sheila".....I can fetch my shovel?
-
In the Victory Thread I've already offered the services of myself and my sisters.
-
This is such an historic fixture, it would be lovely to remember the heroes of yesteryear. How about we find the 11 oldest surviving former Aston Villa players, and play them.
-

Let's just get Guzan back.

Do they have to have survived? There's enough discrimination in this world without starting on the dead.
-
I think it will be tight game only separated by a late unfortunate own goal......
From Gabby.
xx
-
I think we should give the great Warwick Davis a start as centreback. I hear he's a fine defender and great in the air.
-
Blackburn are 11/10 to win the game.
Those odds will change as the money starts lumping on.
Over to you Ron
'Do you want to bet against us'
-
A game we can only lose by drawing.
-
So glad Kodjia is back for this one. Time to rest Johnstone & Bunn and put JK in nets.
-
Kodjia to get goal number 20, Blackburn to equalise right at death.

Looking back through the records On 19 October 1889 we managed to lose 7-0. So I'd go with.......
James Warner
Jimmy Cowan
Albert Aldridge
Gershon Cox
Thomas Clarkson
Harry Devey
Albert Allen
Albert Brown
William Dickson
Archie Hunter
Dennis Hodgetts.

I won't be upset if we lose :)
-
I'll play. I was good for The Abbey Under 11s 50 odd years ago.
-
saw Peter withe and Charlie Aitken at the game yesterday, should be good for a game.
-
Can we play 3 and in? Or Wembley knockout?
-
Now we are safe from relegation the players are hopefully already on the beach, a good chance to blood some of the Villa under 11 team.
Lose 2-0.

Ashley Westwood's imaginary friend should get a game. The one he always used to point at and pass to. And I think some of our celeb fans could do a job. David Cameron on the right wing, Spizz and Nigel Kennedy left field, John Taylor on Bass, Tom Hanks can be the BIG man at the back, Future King Billy as Andy Lochead and Mervyn King as the keeper of the goal.

Can't play Cam. We'd win.

Dr Tony has a 'raffle' for fans to sit in the directors box with him when he is here.
Why not run a similar rafffle for a place in the starting line up on Saturday?
11 winning places, 50p a ticket.
-
My Nan is 97 and never kicked a football in her life. The Villa team coach will have to pick her up from Kings Norton and the coach will need to have a stairlift installed but despite this she'd be delighted to play centre half.
-
Saturday might involve the most passionate support a Blackburn side has ever witnessed with 7000 away fans cheering them on..

Or we could just pick Tommy Elphick!

I saw Lionel Blair on that Real Marigold Hotel program,(yes he has a bit of a belly on him now) but
This is the sort of no nonsense ball winning centre half we need for a game like this.

Fucking awesome, our Nan loved Give Us A Clue. A partnership made in heaven.
-
Can we get Lescott back for these last two games and revive his central defensive partnership with Micah Richards? I think they both deserve another crack at it.
-

I love both of them, Charlie is pretty fit and im sure could do a job, but Peter With can hardle walk, oh yes I see what your saying, NO. maybe we could emergency loan that twat robinson from the noses.

I remember Man city where we fucked about, conceded a goal and then Curle had to catch the thing to give us a pen
And the City fans cheered us on that day - brilliant

I had already lined up Stephen Hawking for a Villa trial. Bloody inconsiderate of him to croak just when we need him. How can he write about The Meaning Of Everything when he has not lost away to Blackburn and relegated Small Heath? My Plan B was Ivor Powell ex Villa skipper. Took Rhyl to Wembley aged 99. Another big disappointment opting for being brown bread when needed.
-
I don't think Hawking is dead? At the very least I'm sure he'd pass a late fitness test.

I hope he is still alive he owes me for a Christmas tree.

Probably my mistake I was confusing him with Kirk Douglas.

Forgot to put HookeySmith down for defence- I'm sure he came on to the pitch after one of the invaders yesterday -
Never got anywhere near the fucker he was so slow! That's the pre match form we're looking for 😂😂😂😂😂
-
You are thinking of his son, the one in The Wall of Wolf Street.
-
So not the Kirk Douglas who was 100 in December and is still alive?
-
Listen, dead or alive, he's in.
-
Regardless of small heath, I dont think we will win this anyway, the way we are playing we will struggle.
-
Listen, dead or alive, he's in.
Pete Burns will definitely fail a fitness test.
-
Yes, I know Kirk Douglas is alive. Just a gentle bit of fun to acknowledge my memory lapse about the Emeritus Professor of Physics at Gonville and Caius.
-
I also admit to exaggeration for effect regarding Ivor Powell., I know he was not 99 when he managed Rhyl. Just very old.
-
To state the bleeding obvious, I only want to lose this if the Blues are losing their game. If they are beating Huddersfield then I don't see the point in turning up to shout for a loss. That said, we are not playing well, Blackburn are scrapping for their lives, cue the, we wanted to lose anyway excuses from the players.
-
I would never cheer for the other team. Never.
I couldn't care less about Small Heath and their predicament.

Due to their GD, Huddersfield need 2pts to secure a play off spot so I can't see them leaving it to the final game of the season...a win against Blose and they will have secured their playoff spot. I can't see Blose getting any kind of result against Huddersfield, so it comes down to what we do against Blackburn and then if Blose can get a better result than Blackburn (and may be Forest) on the last day of the season.

My son could play, he plays wide right midfield, good eye for a pass and has a few tricks up his sleeve. His mate could come along who plays in his team, he tends to either not maker any runs or blasts any chances hopelessly high and wide.
-
I would never cheer for the other team. Never.
Nor me. But I would be very very happy, knowing that Blues fans will be fucking gutted when Blackburn beat us. Not often we get the chance to hammer 2 nails into their coffin in 1 week. Does that make me "small time"? Who cares

Huddersfield play Wolves tomorrow so they may have play offs sewn up by the time they play Blues.

You could play too Chris, throw the kitchen sink at it. Or did the kitchen sink go too?

Jesus. That is funny.

Bugger. Shows how little attention I pay to the top of the table to notice they've got a game in hand vs Wolves...the one shred of consolation is that Huddersfield may still want to finish as high as possible as they will be in with a good chance of finishing 3rd if they beat Wolves.
-
Yes, I know Kirk Douglas is alive. Just a gentle bit of fun to acknowledge my memory lapse about the Emeritus Professor of Physics at Gonville and Caius.
Gonville and Caius?
That's the midfield sorted.
-
The way we've been playing, I think to make 100% sure that we lose, just field our strongest starting eleven!!!
-
I think we should play De Last at RB, only way he can get match fit is if he plays. Also get a few of the Villa ladies on the subs bench, for equality and all that.

We always beat Blackburn don't we ?
0-3 and best performance of the season

I was thinking that aswell.
This will be the game where everything clicks and we stroll to victory when hardly anyone wants that to happen!

Emergency loans to bring back Hodge, L**cott and Peter Enckelman. That should do the trick. Own-goal hero Richard Dunne would be the icing on the cake.

Wouldn't surprise me, it seems like 90% of the pubs in Blackburn have shut down.

Without wanting to politicise this of course it is, there are plenty of examples of it.
On topic I'd rather see Bruce take this as an opportunity to do something about the performances than anything else. If that means we win and Blues stay up then so be it. The most important thing is us being ready to ensure promotion next season. When we're comfortably in the top 2 none of us will care if the blues are stinking out the bottom half of our league or the top half of the one below.

We pride ourselves on how childish we can be. If that makes me a childishist then so be it.

I'm struggling with the term 'Blackburn Rovers' being used. In a previous life, I was a West Indian romany who perished in the great fire of London. Or something.

Same here. And if by some miracle Villa also play well, then so much the better.

The reality is we cannot play a seriously weakened team. It undermines the integrity of the game and risks a heavy fine from the League.
Therefore, the team should just park the bus. I'd suggest Knutsford Services.
-
I've toiled with this - my initial and lasting reaction would be 1 game in our history to lose - not a great deal - 1 game to send the unwashed into permanent misery and grow the chip forever - priceless. However, what price the saving of the unwashed by beating Blackburn and being able to be their saviours? I think that has even more turmoil in their little heads. the Vile saved us.

The though of answering every anti Villa comment and song from them next season by saying "well that is gratitude for you!" does seem quite funny.

Fantastic scenario, I like it. Our creative songwriters would have a field day.

Rags game aside, we still have a manager playing for his future unless beating the Unflushables is the height of our ambition?
Let's finish the season, as ugly as it's been, in some style.
-
I fear that if the last two games produce a bit of pig lipstick for a truly horrible season, it would make the forensic rigour we need to apply to the matter of sorting out long standing, deep rooted problems a bit harder. Suppose Gabby got a couple goals in the last two games. He would get a further contract extension. I don't want us to play badly, I want those in charge to see the team for what they are, a mid table Championship side in need of massive, sustained improvement. I have seen nothing in the last four games including last Sunday's hugely enjoyable panto, to suggest that improvement is at hand.
-
Saturday might involve the most passionate support a Blackburn side has ever witnessed with 7000 away fans cheering them on..
it would be quite funny to watch the away fans cheering on the home team, but I hope we don't. All the shit we sling at Blues for being small time and obsessed with Villa wouldn't wash anymore. Fans and players need to at least go through the motions and not give them any ammo to take the high ground. If we lose and they go down great, but at least if we win and that result becomes necessary for them to survive, we can lord it that they depended on our charity to stay up. I'd be gutted if we looked like we wanted to lose, lost and then they stayed up regardless.
-

Agree Mark. I just want a Villa win, for Kodjia to score his 20th goal and if Blues go down it will be because of their own incompetence.
-
Will be keeping an eye on Wigan results as well - theoretically they can still go above Bloose on goal difference

Of course that is the ideal scenario and if we were given the benefit of hindsight then it's what we'd all prefer. But, as we do not, just to make us more comfortable a 3-2 defeat with an outrageous penalty decision going Blackburn's way with the last kick of the ball isn't the worst way to lose.

Couldn't agree more Brian.
We undoubtedly have a better squad of players than we did in December but I see very little in the way of improvement as a team and cause for optimism regarding automatic promotion.
There is much work to be done between now and August.

Rags game aside, we still have a manager playing for his future unless beating the Unflushables is the height of our ambition?
Let's finish the season, as ugly as it's been, in some style.
Agree Mark. I just want a Villa win, for Kodjia to score his 20th goal and if Blues go down it will be because of their own incompetence.
I don't really care if Blues go down and frankly why would we want that? we regularly beat them.
-
I reckon we will win 2-1.
-
Will be keeping an eye on Wigan results as well - theoretically they can still go above Bloose on goal difference
Now that would be really funny
Everyone watching our games and Wigan getting all 6 remaining points and them missing out on GD
-
0-0 with a minute left and Gabby sticks one in our net. That's my bet.
-
I would love Wigan to stay up. A good away day with our own bar and friendly staff.
-
I'd start the Long John Silver squad
-
I think this is definitely the game to test the Micah Richards / Tommy Elphick partnership at the back.

...and Keith Wyness in centre-midfield

There're going up, there're going down...........

I didn't realise that Villa are Blackburn's most played series?
Taken from Roverstalk:
Blackburn vs A. Villa is our most played series, with 170 games. Blackburn is 61-35-74 against Villa. But, its been awhile. 1st meeting, 13 Oct, 1888 (6-1 Villa).
-
I find all these ways of losing to help relegate the Blues all very demeaning.
Hell we should just play like we have for the rest of the season.
That should just about take care of it ;)
-
Mile Jedinak is a 'big doubt' according to Bruce's opening gambit in the press conference. Just awaiting news of the other 17 injuries.

That's it, we're officially throwing the game

Very good.

I'm currently in my sickbed but I will make the effort to turn out if required..

This. My local game from Glasgow and always plenty of tickets at a decent price.
-
The kit man has failed a fitness test, so will start.
-
This is Bruce's best chance to try anything new, or to experiment with ways of bringing Hogan into the game. If we lose he'll never have a softer and more sympathetic response.

If we win he'll get dog's abuse!
-
ISn't RHM still injured. If Green isn't get him on the left and partner Gabby with Hogan. Hourihane and Lansbury in the middle and Grealish playing in the 10 role (as i like to call them). Why not try it? But just as a back up the back 4 should be Bedeau - Elphick - Richards - Amavi.
-
I don't know what you're all going on about, no need for old players / kids / stewards / forum members etc. Just rest Kodjia and Chester and keep Hogan isolated and the rest can be as you were. A thumping 3-0 defeat piling pressure on the noses and their charming new manager.
-
Am I the only person wanting us to win? ..maybe I am but 'm going and don't especially wish to see another abject away day.
If it turns out that most of a massive 8000 following want us to lose, then we really are in danger of becoming as self obsessed with Blues as they have been with us for so many years.
-
I want us to win but should we lose it wont ruin my weekend like it normally does when that happens. Win it and win next weekend and in style is what I would like.

Nobody's saying that...just that a defeat won't feel as bad as it normally does.
-
I just think it's funny that they're (Blues) sweating on us not turning up, and many of us are treating the game so lightly. That in itself is worth travelling up there.

You're right Des, it must be churning them up inside knowing that they need us to win.
But, their mentality would be they'd rather go down than want us to win.
Like you I find this really funny.
-
Jedinak out - don't we've won a game without him have we?
-
If we can't win 4-0 then wouldn't be too upset with a 1-0 defeat
-
What's the Villa allocation for this?
-
Something silly like 8000.
Actually, make that 6923

Anything less than a win is an awful result. Blackburn are in the relegation zone after all.
-
Just watch us Villa it all up and get that thrashing that we've been waiting for all season.
-
I'm going
Refreshing to not care what the result is.
UTV
-
refreshing to enjoy goals going in. Can you imagine what it'd be like if The Shit are losing and Blackburn score a last gasp winner? We'll give them a celebration they won't have seen since Anfield in the mid 90s.

Very much this. From London, I appear to be going through every Northern mill town at some point on a nine hour train jaunt. And I honestly don't care whether we win or not. I'd happily take a 4-3 either way.
-
There's a thread over on SHA titled 'Up the Villa!'. I want us to lose even more now.

It's hilarious. There can't be another club in the country that hate their local rivals as much as they hate us. They live and breath claret and blue.
-
If there was no small heath we'd carry on exactly the same apart from there being a bit less to laugh at in the world. If there was no Aston Villa they'd be lost. They'd have no reason to wake up, no purpose to their lives. Some of them obsess more about Villa than I do.
-
This has goal less draw all over it I think Blackburn will go down which is a shame but the silver lining for them will be the end of the Venkys
-
That SHA thread is worth a visit, from a rubbernecking viewpoint.
There are folks that would rather see their team relegated than want us to win.
-
Just saw Mowbray on the SSN. Didn't know he was Blackburn manager so we just CAN NOT lose to a team managed by this man. 2-0 to us.
-
6500 heading up there, plus any pay on the day sales.
-
Kodjia will want to post a 20 goal season, so he'll certainly looking to score.
I want us to win and blues can sink their own ship by losing their remaining games.
-
Bruce said 8k expected in the away end today.
Is that correct???
-

No. Maximum allocation is 6900, we've sold 6500.

Well let's hope L1 shiteball descends on The Sty asap then. 'Be rude not to, I'd have thought. ;)

Ahaa but what about hordes of Blose heading up there to support us?

They're still trying to find their way out of the Holte End after last Sunday.

I could not find anything on the OS for tickets, so assumed we had sold out.
-
I hope win. We'll feel a bit daft if we're celebrating losing and SHA manage a win.
-
To those who have made the effort and are in fancy dress.
Thanks great effort, mostly funny some distribing lol

The Yorkshire guys in Hooters outfits are very scary.

It's my last football show of the season if you want to listen in to a heavily Villa biased affair with plenty good indie music scattered throughout http://www.mearnsfm.org.uk/listen-live
(Decent) requests welcomed.

What's happened to match thread with team news ?

Nearly there. Fucking total shit at Ewood being spread by Bruce and Co.
