Seeing as these sort of threads pop up here I thought I'd do one before Kippax wakes up. ;)
If the play offs are still an aim we need to wake up, realise we now have a very good team for this level given who we're signing and go out and actually win some games.
When I mean win some games I don't mean just win one game and then go back to drawing and then losing meekly as we did over xmas.
We need to win a game on a Saturday...then scrap our way to an away win on the Thursday and then win another game on the Saturday.
So far this season that's been beyond us.
Our next 10 are:
Brentford (A)
Forest (A)
Ipswich (H)
Newcastle (A)
Derby (H)
Bristol (H)
Rotherham (A)
Huddersfield (a)
Sheff Weds (H)
Rotherham (A)
Probably our toughest sequence of games this season. In this run we play only two teams who are mid table with little to play for...the rest are either top 6 contenders or fighting relegation.
I think we need 20 points from that lot and we need to start beating some teams above us.
Even if the gap is still 3-4 points off top 6 I'd be fine with that as they'll be I think 7 games in April.
What won't be acceptable is something like winning two and drawing 7 or 8 but that's been our problem this season, we just draw too many games.
Looking forward to it anyway....far too early to be writing off the season.

We need to be getting more than two points per game
-
I don't like to look to far ahead but we really need to get a run going to stand a chance of getting into the play offs.
-
I hate to tempt fate, but next three are very winnable, as are the home games, except for maybe Derby. Get a couple of wins on the bounce and build momentum, other teams have done it, why not us.
-
We've blown it.
The piss poor start under RDM has been too much to recover from.
-
Playing Rotherham twice will boost the points tally hopefully...
-
The second half of the season will see squad depth come into play. We have a large gap to bridge but we also have now one of the deepest squads. As long as Bruce can get the chemistry with so many new players in place quickly I expect us to make up ground through our own performances as well as others faltering around us.
-
Five of the last 8 are at Villa Park as well.
-
Brentford (A) win
Forest (A) win
Ipswich (H) win
Barnsley (h) win
Newcastle (A) lose
Derby (H) Draw
Bristol (H) Win
Rotherham (A) Win
Huddersfield (a) Draw
Sheff Weds (H) Win
Rotherham (A) Are we playing them 3 times?
Wigan (a) Win
11 games - 27 points there for the taking - and if we hope to be anywhere near the payoffs we need them all
-
Was about to say, we can't be playing Rotherham twice in the next 10 games, we've already played them at home and we're out of the Cups.
-
We really need to pull out a run of 5 or so wins somewhere, and get on a bit of a roll. But it needs to come pretty soon. 4 or 5 points adrift, going into the last 9 games, I would fancy our chances.
-
Brentford (A) W
Forest (A) W
Ipswich (H) W
Barnsley (H) W
Newcastle (A) L
Derby (H) D
Bristol (H) W
Rotherham (A) W
Huddersfield (A) D
Sheff Weds (H) W
Wigan (A) W
Same predictions as Hookeysmith...23pts from next 10 games or 26pts from 11 games.
I can see us dropping a few bad results in there too, so 20pts from the next 10 would be more realistic.

30. Fuck 'em all, we're Villa.
-
I hate these threads - complete jinxes.
Everyone is way too optimistic and we end up W1 D3 L6 or something.
-
Someone in the top 6 will blow it. We just need to start winning and hopefully we will reach the play offs in good form. I'm not holding my breath.
-
Brentford (A) D
Forest (A) D
Ipswich (H) W
Barnsley (H) W
Newcastle (A) L
Derby (H) D
Bristol (H) W
Rotherham (A) D
Huddersfield (A) L
Sheff Weds (H) D
Wigan (A) D
too little too late
-
Just 15pts from 33? Thats overly pessimistic and I don't see us drawing 6 out of 11 games.
-
26 points (draws away to Barcodes and Hudders).
If we can play like we did first half against Preston and the new lads can help us maintain the level in the second half, they'll be no stopping us.
-

The problem is that even if some team in the top 6 does blow it, we also require none of the teams in places 7-12 to have a good run either.
-
Fuck it. Let's just enjoy watching some proper football for a change and see where it takes us.

This. Yes, I'm still hoping for a run that gets us into the play-offs. But, for now, I'd take a set of coherent performances, with the team looking like they know what they're doing. And for one serious tonking amongst them, just to set the taster for next season.
-
I envisage a few tonkings actually.
-
Brentford played some nice stuff at Villa Park and Forest will likely have the boost of a new, much-loved, manager.
If we can do okay in those two we have a chance of putting a run together.
I'm not looking too far in advance of those games at pres... ah, fuck it.
TEN WINS.
-
Always said that we need to be within 10 points off the play off place with 10 games left-then hit that form where we need to take 7-8 wins and 2 draws, one team always comes with a late run let's hope that team with the new midfield is us

Our away form is complete rubbish...we've only won two all season!
Hopefully the new boys will be capable of rolling up their sleeves away and give us a better mentality.
SB needs also to be a lot more positive than simply playing for a 0-0 for an hour and then trying to win the game from there.
We should be capable of 4 points at least from Brentford and Forest so that hopefully should kick start things.
Playing Rotherham away twice will help aswell.....!

I doubt we will play Newcastle then so we will get 3 home games on the spin.
-
I have written this season off, play offs which I honestly can't see would be a massive bonus. All about getting us ready to kick off hitting the running next season.
-
10 wins. Score 44 concede 7.
-
It's no doubt transfer window giddiness, but I can't see how we won't improve immediately by having three midfielders who know which direction the ball ought to go in. I fancy us to lose less than four of our remaining games, winning the vast majority of the rest.
I'm ready for my Horlicks now, Genevieve.
-
Newcastle game confirmed for Monday 18th.
-
And Bristol City game won't change again now either. 4 home games in Feb.
-
Big chance to wrack up some back to back wins.
-
Newcastle game confirmed for Monday 18th.
Monday 20th?

We're playing them twice in 48 hours like Rotherham away....

A jinx, I tell you.

30. Fuck 'em all, we're Villa.
Well I was close.
-
Pear shaped does not even begin to describe it.
-
Oh well. That's that then I suppose.
